WHAT IS NATIONAL FUTURESCHOOLS EXPO

ES C N E R E F N O C 5 LARGE

The National FutureSchools Expo is an annual 3 day national K-12 schools event starting with 5 pre-event masterclasses (22 March), leading into 5 parallel conferences running alongside a central exhibition (23 & 24 March). In 2017, the event is being held at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre. It is a cross-sector event, bringing together educators from Public, Independent, Catholic and other K-12 schools. We expect over 2000 people to attend - from all across Australia. The National FutureSchools Expo has been designed to complement and reinforce EduTECH - Asia Pacific’s largest, annual education + edtech event. In 2017, EduTECH is being held in the new International Convention Centre in Sydney. The National FutureSchools Expo is a combination of inspiration, thought-leadership and practical take-backs for Principals and their executive teams, plus classroom teachers (especially computer science teachers) and curriculum leaders, as well as ICT directors and coordinators. Certificates of attendance are issued to all delegates, meaning that the National FutureSchools Expo can be credited towards teachers professional development (PD). Full details are available at www.futureschools.com.au

by booking the BUNDLE PACKAGE (included BOTH conference and masterclass)

Anne Knock Director Development and External Relations, Sydney Centre for Innovation Most teachers around the world have built their practice around these incontrovertible truths: • • • • •

Most of their school day will be spent in a classroom They will be teaching several same-age students at the same time – often in groups as large as 25 – 35 They will not routinely be collaborating with their peers They will be teaching single subjects A significant part of their work will involve direct instruction

Now, imagine a newly designed space within an existing school or in a new school where NONE of the above statements is true. What if teachers did not have to spend their day in a traditional classroom? What if the number of students any teacher was working with could vary throughout the school day? What if students did not have to be grouped by age? WHY ATTEND? • A majority of the learning that happens in schools is pre-determined by a design best suited for an industrial, mass-production model. In short, “school hardware” severely limits the “educational software” it can run. • Learn how to move away from the rigidity of a static building to the agility of a Learning Building . Welldesigned school buildings are ever-changing to accommodate the learning that is going on at any given time. • This masterclass will offer clear and immediately usable strategies for educators to adapt their practice to maximize the benefits of new learning environments. WHO SHOULD ATTEND? • Principals / Executive Teams • Directors / Business Managers • Deputies / Assistant Principals • Future focused educators / curriculum leads / heads of department

Systems Manager, McKinnon Secondary College Schools continue to invest significantly in Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) and Bring Your Own Technology (BYOT) programs. What processes, policies and mindsets are needed to leverage these technology investments in a manner that genuinely improves teaching and learning? From managing financial and human ICT resources to working out what your core services are, this Masterclass will bring you to the leading edge of technologies and strategies to keep you digitally ahead of the game. WHY ATTEND? • This Masterclass will explore strategy and policy trends for school BYOD / BYOT programs • Find out what technical infrastructure is required to manage wireless coverage, peak load, network speed, network capacity, and fast internet access for school BYOD programs. Discover how best to test and tune your school network. • Learn from cases studies demonstrating the technological plumbing required for chromebook, apple iPad and PC devices. • Uncover best practice for managing ICT teams, and supporting and managing staff, student and parent expectations in relation to core services. • Learn how to effectively communicate with parents and students about where ownership and usage responsibilities lie e.g. for damage and repair, and how to effectively manage school communications via both web and email. WHO SHOULD ATTEND? • IT and Network Managers • ICT Integrators / Facilitators • Technical Heads of Learning Spaces • Library / Business Management with IT Resourcing responsibilities

ESAFETY AND CYBERSECURITY

The most pressing risks will be identified, and delegates will learn how to strategically mitigate them. Delegates will come away equipped to protect themselves and their communities online, with a constructive language and approach through which to share their expertise, and speak with their school communities and students in a meaningful and effective manner. WHY ATTEND? • This Masterclass will provide you with strategic advice on new and emerging technology trends affecting the eSafety and cybersecurity responsibilities of school communities • We will explore cybersafety, privacy awareness and digital citizenship • Discover the greatest risk areas, and the potential reputational and wellbeing impacts • Delegates will be exposed to a range of resources and programs, and participate in tutorial and discussions to develop their skills and confidence in handling eSafety and cybersecurity issues. • Learn how to design school policies and processes to keep students and educators safe online WHO SHOULD ATTEND? • School Executive / Deputy Principals / Principals • ICT Integrators / Facilitators / Coordinators • IT and Network Managers • School Councilors / Learning Support Officers • P&C Association Executive / Board Members AGENDA - SEE WEBSITE

Will Egan Co-Founder and Director and Award Winning Entrepreneur Code the Future

If you are involved in education in Australia, for the last twelve months or more you would have heard the clarion call to have all children learning how to code. There are over 3.7 million students in Australian schools but only a small proportion of those students are learning to code and create their own digital solutions to ‘big’ problems. Today’s educators are confronted with the need to have specialised technical skills to be able to effectively teach coding. With 44% (or 5.1m) of Australian jobs at risk from digital disruption, now is the time for change. Innovation and education in STEM is key to Australia’s growth. WHY ATTEND? • This Masterclass will explore the new AC Digital Technologies curriculum in depth, and showcase how schools across Victoria are successfully leading the way in its implementation. • We will explore the philosophy, vision and culture needed to attain successful delivery of the new curriculum. • Learn how partnerships with industry professionals can enrich teaching and learning WHO SHOULD ATTEND? • Teachers wanting to leverage coding and digital technologies thinking in their teaching practice (CS+X) • Technology Leaders and Educators in Primary and Middle School • Teachers looking to effectively engage with digital technologies, including physical computing and robotics • ICT Integrators / Facilitators and eLearning Coordinators

MINDFULNESS, NEUROSCIENCE AND WELLBEING

Linda Ray Director, Neuresource Group This masterclass will get you thinking differently about attention and why it matters. We live in a world typified by a real-time battle between distraction and human attention. Constant invitations to be distracted and to split attention have led to increasing levels of cognitive load, and rising stress and fatigue in today’s work environment. This is occurring at a time where change is constant, the world of work is becoming more complex and we are being required to do more with less. High levels of cognitive load impact on our capacity to be creative, to problem solve, make decisions and learn new things. To effectively manage hyper-stimulation, we need to learn to be the boss of our attention and use it intentionally and wisely to guard against a constant state of feeling ‘brain fried’. This session will share ways to intentionally and mindfully manage your limited attention in the increasingly complex world we operate within. WHY ATTEND? • Discover why our attention bosses us around and is leading to high levels of frazzle, stress and digital dementia • Understand why developing your ‘attentional intelligence’ will help support resilience and well -being • Acquire practical strategies to intentionally manage your limited attention in the increasingly complex world we operate within • Learn how to be ‘mindful’ rather than ‘mind full’ WHO SHOULD ATTEND? • Classroom teachers • Principals & Deputies • School Counsellors • Wellbeing Officers • Anyone wanting to explore how to improve focus, resilience and well-being and get back in charge of your attention.
