ARCH 100B |SF COMMUNITY CENTER
A building designed to meet the needs of the community in San Francisco. Various facilities are provided inside the building, including; sport, education and recreation. The idea of folding facade is derived from an analytical image of a flower, which then evolved and shaped the building together with the programs. Instructor: Melanie Kaba Location: Mission Street/ 8th Street, San Francisco Software used: Rhino, V-ray, Photoshop, Illustrator

ARCH 220 |MAP MAKERS INSTITUTE Designed specifically for Map Makers Institute, this building is located in the city of San Francisco and was designed to have three major spaces: exhibition space, lecture, production and office space. The design is developed from three intersecting boxes, from which grids are then created to allign the interior spaces. The function/programs complement the building’s visual access to the landscape and the circulation of the building. Instructor: David Maynard Location: 2301 Lombard Street, San Francisco Software used: SketchUp, Photoshop, Illustrator

ARCH 220 |Agricultural Research Institute Located in a rural area, the design follows the curviliniar shape of the existing topography. The project consists of two buildings; one for the dormitory and the other one is for exhibition, research, and office use. The two buildings are designed to be very open and visually accessible both from the inside and outside, to get the best view from the environment around, and also to act as the boundaries of the existing barns. Instructor: David Maynard Location: 2999 Dillon Beach Rd, Tomales, CA Software used: AutoCAD, Photoshop, Illustrator

ARCH 100A |RITUAL SPACES Based on the most basic activities that people do daily, which include; eating, bathing, and resting, this project is then developed further to provide the daily needs of the users. Each ritual space is designed based on the study of body movement while doing the rituals. The grounding of this project was actually a part of the design, thus there is no exact location on the map. Instructor: Megan Werner Software used: Rhino, V-Ray, Photoshop, Illustrator

LD ARCH 132 |SALT BATH PONDS Sherman Island is located in the Sacramento River Delta at the confluence of the two rivers in Sacramento County. Using arcGIS software to find the lowest point of the area, we then design a recreational area (salt bath ponds and a recreational cabin), which are connected with a wooden bridge. The curvilinear shape of the landscape and the bridge were inspired from waves of water, and they also follow the natural curviliniar shape of the island. Instructor: John Radke Location: Sherman Island, Sacramento, California Software used: Rhino, V-ray, Photoshop, Illustrator
Salt Bath Ponds
Three levels of Salt Ponds
Using the ArcGIS software and datas provided, we generated maps to show opportunities and constraints on categories that are considered important factors for the design on Sherman Island (water access, slope, land use, etc). Then we combine both maps to help us find the best location for the design.

ARCH 124A| Delta Shelter (Rendering)
Delta Shelter – a 1,000 square-foot cabin – is essentially a steel-clad box on stilts that can be completely shuttered when the owner is away. The 200 square-foot footprint of the house rises above a 40-acre, 100-year flood plain adjacent to the Methow River. Architect: Olson Kundig Architects Location: Mazama, Washington, USA Software used: Rhino, V-ray, Illustrator

ARCH 121|Model Making These two museums are designed to exhibit the artworks done by Piet Mondrian and Alexander Calder. Each design of the museums are inspired by the styles of their artworks. Instructor: Daniel Abbot Material: 2ply, 4ply, wood Software: Illustrator for laser cutter templates

ARCH 131|Hand Drawing Study of space and lights by drawing line contour and tone, to better understand the depth, shadows, contrast, and shapes in 3D world and then transfer it on to a piece of paper. Instructor: Biliana Stremska Material: pencil, charcoal
