BLVCK WALNUTS
Black Walnuts” plays an ode to the serendipitous realization of the participating citizen. With grass roots firmly placed in the curiosity of societies’ evolution, a daring vision into how we live our lives is realized. Our journey questions all notions of classical critique we have for existence, severing existential wonder from the body of civilization. Whether we choose guilt or pride in where we stand, no doubt is spared when admitting to just how seamlessly linked to one another we have become. By the hand of our dreams and nightmares, our world is changing without our consent.
Our realities play host to our own reflections of who we are and what we are part of. Much like the irony of folk-law, life is both bitter and sweet. The landscapes and abstractions we encounter form the basis of our exhibition’s artistic centre. Urban contemporary artwork dictates the relevance of our vision. With the work being influenced by street, fine, and industrial art and pop culture imagery, bridging the gaps between the self and others consolidates the essence of our exhibition. Strong figurative tones present a strong narrative, personifying each art work as a story-teller. Only through what we see and feel around us can we achieve understanding; our artistic focus grants the wish.

CONCEPT
We believe that urban contemporary artwork has gained worldwide notoriety. It can be found on every street corner in every city. Therefore all the artists chosen shall develop works that synergize and represent our vision. “Black Walnuts” represents a fraternity of emerging and established artists that pay tribute to art from several disciplines. It is their narratives that will tell the stories of our lives, whilst fashioning an exhibition that is accessible to a broad audience. It will include a warm mélange of installation pieces and artworks that simply beg the reflection and contemplation of our guests.

WHITE DOUGHNUTS
“White Doughnuts” is the end of your perspicacious gaze the and the beginning of your bacchanal enjoyment. Whilst eating a doughnut, you spill powdered sugar upon yourself that marks your clothing. Your mouth is covered and your fingers are sticky. Yet in amongst all of the clamor, you cannot help but find yourself reverling in your own joy and bliss. Consider “White Doughnuts” as an opportunity for refined mess and good spirits. It forms the icing on the cake (or doughnut) for the evening’s experience with a truly celebratory after-party. Hosting proceedings will be some of Amsterdam’s most progressive and well-respected musicians. A sublime blend of future-sound and disco-funk shall on array to guide our guests into the realms of gusto.

^ Our campaign strategy will be both subtle and ambitious. Our promotion will take place in carefully selected locations around Amsterdam that shall ensure maximize exposure to our intended audiences. Throughout all of our communications, our use of thought-provoking and canny imagery will capture the imagination and will encourage a sense of intrigue and anticipation. It is through our use of refinement that we will stimulate peoples’ interest towards something greater that is going to take place. By utilizing a broad multimedia approach, curiosity will culminate from abstraction.

Christopher McIntosh Communications Impresario

VALTTERI LAIHANEN Artistic Liason
Christopher’s attention is split between his two lifelong passions; music and writing. Being both a law and communication graduate and an active DJ and producer, his artistic sensitivities have often overlapped with his enjoyment for expression and review.
Valtteri used to work as a freelance in an event organizing company which organizes the biggest art related events in Finland. He enjoye working closely with different artists in order to gain more knowledge about their methods and development.
Over the course of the last two years, he has been working closely with several national and international agencies and artists for venues such as Trouw, Canvas, Bitterzoet and his latest project, Green Room at Studio K. Currently he is working in collaboration with Amsterdambased visual artist Parra on a biographical book due to be released later this year.
Passionately curious young man who seeks challenges to make him continuously learn more. In April 2011 he co-organized an art event called Amsterdam 2.0. Last year he organized and curated ART Proof, a pop-up art event for one evening. Streetlab, Gemeente Amsterdam, Ben Sherman and Jameson were supporting the event.

CHAD BILYEU Events Strategist
A world-travelled epicure originating from Cleveland, Ohio, Chad Bilyeu adopted Amsterdam as his home in 2009. A distinguished graduate of Georgetown University and published scribe, Chad has documented his adventures in Amsterdam extensively on his photography website, Chad in Amsterdam. As co-organizer and featured artist of Amsterdam 2.0, Chad showcased his talents in event planning and photography. He is dedicated to discover, creation and the attainment of knowledge.
We are masters of the unsaid words, but slaves of those who seek perfection.
