PERFORMING ARTS SERIES 2012-2013

This year marks our 10th anniversary, and we’re excited to present our 2012-2013 Performing Arts Series

This season Hatfield Hall is bringing you innovative and talented acts from the United States and beyond. With offerings as diverse as bluegrass, ballet, Broadway favorites, and family-friendly education programs; employing acrobats and actors, musicians and vocalists, science and sleuthing--our season includes something for everyone. We’ve saved a seat for you, so please join us in celebrating ten years of performing arts at Hatfield Hall! Hatfield Hall’s state-of-the-art performance facility opened in 2002. The building, with its theater, alumni center, and offices, was made possible thanks to a generous gift from Michael and Deborah Hatfield. Michael is a Rose-Hulman alumnus who graduated in 1984. The building is named in honor of his parents, Larry and Pat Hatfield.

AL SCHMIDT CONCERT at WHITE CHAPEL

“By emphasizing the human drama as central to understanding the music, Ensemble Voltaire provokes unparalleled empathy and imagination in its audience.” NUVO INDIANAPOLIS Ensemble Voltaire is widely known for its unique performances of Baroque chamber music featuring period instruments. Its musicians masterfully create a time-bridging performance of early music for a contemporary audience. The ensemble’s engaging concerts bring the Baroque period to life while subtly surrounding the listener with the cultural context from which the music emerged. This performance is named in honor of the late Alfred R. Schmidt, who served on the RoseHulman mathematics faculty for 46 years.

An accomplished musician, he accompanied the Rose Glee Club and served as its adviser for 25 years, and played the organ at every commencement from 1959 until his retirement in 1995.

ENSEMBLE VOLTAIRE • SEPTEMBER 30, 2012

Ensemble Voltaire • September 30, 2012 • 7:30 P.M.

Schmidt’s generous support provided Hatfield Hall with a Renaissance R-380 digital organ. The White Chapel’s organ and its Steinway grand piano were also donated by Schmidt. Dedicated in 2002, the non-denominational White Chapel was made possible by a $1.5 million lead gift from the late John White and his wife, Elizabeth, of Terre Haute.
