Five years ago, we conducted a comprehensive consumer perception study that – among other things – asked what visitors most identify with Greater Springfield. The overwhelming answer was great outdoor recreation!

We are known regionally for our 2000-acre recreational lake at Buck Creek State Park (great fishing spot, BTW), scenic bike trails that connect into a 330 mile, statewide network and whitewater features running through our downtown on Buck Creek.

Glen Helen Nature Preserve

GREAT HIKING TRAILS

Glen Helen is the legacy of Hugh Taylor Birch who donated the wooded glen in 1929. The preserve now encompasses 1000 acres, all accessible from a 25-mile network of footpaths.

Bike Trails

Ride the Little Miami Scenic Trail to nearby Young’s Jersey Dairy to enjoy their worldfamous ice cream, and then continue on to charming Yellow Springs for boutique shopping and dining. Or, leave from downtown on the Buck Creek Scenic Trail which takes you to Buck Creek State Park.

MAD RIVER ADVENTURES CANOE & KAYAK RENTALS

Canoe or kayak through the unspoiled, cool and clear waters of the Mad River in Clark County. The Mad River is an excellent river for you to discover the great outdoors by canoe. The water is clear enough to see the river bottom in the more shallow areas and has a light current, based on recent weather, to carry you along, but it’s not so strong that you can’t paddle against it.

John Bryan State Park

CAMP & HIKE

John Bryan is the most scenic state park in western Ohio. The 752-acre park contains a remarkable limestone gorge cut by the Little Miami River which is designated as a state and national scenic river. The campground features 60 campsites, (10 electric sites, 50 non-electric).
