LITTLE ART THEATRE
What began as a modest concrete fish pond in H.G. (Ben) Hartman’s back yard is now revered as a folk art masterpiece. The Hartman Rock Garden includes over 250,000 individual stones that combine a mixture of history, religion and depression-era pop culture. Among the Hartman Rock Garden’s many unique attributes, the sheer scale of the work and its contextual location in a residential neighborhood, contributes greatly to its status as an iconic “outsider” art site. Fully restored by the Kohler Foundation in 2009, the Garden is open daily from dawn to dusk with no admission charge.
Located in Yellow Springs, the Little Art Theatre is one of the country’s oldest independent cinemas. Fully renovated in 2014, the Little Art showcases contemporary and classic films in full digital quality while offering beer, wine and other refreshments.

SPRINGFIELD MUSEUM OF ART Springfield is home to the only Smithsonian Affiliate art museum in the state of Ohio. The distinction celebrates the Springfield Museum of Art’s adherence to best practices and its exemplary permanent collection, which features artists such as Berenice Abbott, George Bellows, A.T. Bricher and Charley Harper. The Museum also features an interactive art lab that allows visitors to create their own art as it relates to current exhibitions. FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT’S WESTCOTT HOUSE Completed in 1908, The Westcott House is Frank Lloyd Wright’s only Prairie Style home in Ohio and one of the country’s finest Wright house museums. The Westcott House underwent an inch-by-inch $5.3 million restoration in 2005 and each of its features—from art glass and original hardware to handdecorated walls and massive urns—has been returned to its 1908 appearance. PENNSYLVANIA HOUSE MUSEUM The Pennsylvania House Tavern & Inn was an important stopover for livestock drovers and pioneers during the 19th century westward expansion of the United States. The beautifully renovated 24-room former inn, built in 1839 along with the Historic National Road, includes an extensive display of antique furnishings, antique dolls, and one of the largest antique button collections in the United States. 1311 W. SOUTH FOUNTAIN HISTORIC DISTRICT South Fountain blends unique, mid-sized vernacular houses with high-style Victorian mansions. Prominent Americans like Oliver S. Kelly (403), William N. HERITAGE CENTER MUSEUM The spectacular City Building & Market built in 1890 is now home to the Heritage Center Museum. Extending an entire city block, the Heritage Center houses an extraordinary museum that faithfully recounts the history of America’s Heartland. Known by architectural aficionados for its stunning Richardsonian Romanesque design, the Heritage Center hosts approximately 30,000 visitors each year. CRABILL HOMESTEAD One of the few late Federal style homes in the state open for public use, the Crabill House provides an authentic representation of an early nineteenth century home. Constructed by David and Barbara Crabill sometime between 1821 and 1826, the home was occupied by the Crabill family until the early 20th century. CLARENCE J. THE GAMMON HOUSE Built in the 1850s, the Gammon House was an Underground Railroad site. Originally owned by a black abolitionist named George Gammon, the famous stop features secret passages leading into the attic and a tunnel into the basement.
The patent application for Wilbur & Orville Wright’s “flying machine” was drawn up in Springfield , Ohio by patent attorney Harry Aubrey Toulmin Sr. The patent was granted on May 22, 1906.

Greater Springfield is often referred to as, “the antiques capital of the Midwest.” While that’s pretty good, we’d argue that we may be, “the antiques capital of the United States!” How so, you ask? Well here goes… We are home to the Heart of Ohio antique mall. At 116,000 sq. ft., Heart of Ohio is not only the country’s largest antique mall, but also the best. There you will find more than 1400 dealer booths and showcases featuring everything from fine furniture and retro décor, to architectural items and vintage accessories. Insider tip: block out at least 3-4 hours to do Heart of Ohio right, and grab lunch at their café!
We also play host to the legendary Springfield Antique Extravaganza twice a year – in May and September – at the Clark County Fairgrounds. These epic shows boast 2500 dealers from all over the country with the widest selection of antiques you will ever see in a single location. The indoor/outdoor shows also feature great food, and world-class people watching. The “early bird” admission on Friday gives you first shot at the best items, and readmission for the rest of the weekend.

Parks & Rec Five years ago, we conducted a comprehensive consumer perception study that – among other things – asked what visitors most identify with Greater Springfield. The overwhelming answer was great outdoor recreation! We are known regionally for our 2000-acre recreational lake at Buck Creek State Park (great fishing spot, BTW), scenic bike trails that connect into a 330 mile, statewide network and whitewater features running through our downtown on Buck Creek. Golfers know us as one of just 12 national US Open qualifying sites, hikers know us for Glen Helen and John Bryan State Park, and soon climbers will know us for the recreational cliffs at Mad River Gorge.
ANNUAL EVENTS CHALK FEST Spend the afternoon listening to live music as chalk artists chalk the streets in downtown Springfield and compete for top honors. Attendees will also enjoy offerings from vendors, food trucks and kids activities. They can create their own chalk art masterpiece and engage in other free, fun activities. BUCK CREEK STATE PARK The park’s recreational facilities center on the 2,120-acre lake, offering endless water-related opportunities including boating, water skiing, fishing and swimming. John Bryan is the most scenic state park in western Ohio. The 752-acre park contains a remarkable limestone gorge cut by the Little Miami River which is designated as a state and national scenic river. The campground features 60 campsites, (10 electric sites, 50 non-electric).
Located just blocks from downtown, Snyder Park was established in 1895 as a gift from local businessmen and philanthropists John and David Snyder. Designed by noted landscape architect Herman Haerlin, Snyder Park is known as Springfield’s “Central Park”.

The following is an excerpt from an article in the Dayton Daily News DAYTON EATS Jan 14, 2020 By Alexis Larsen The menu — drawing on the best flavors and preparations from Japan, Vietnam, China, Korea and more — changes almost daily, according to the ingredients the restaurant can source. The goal is to keep everything as fresh as possible, so the dishes usually sell out. One customer recently called them a “five-star dive bar” — fitting, indeed. Their signature dish — and also one of their most popular — is Tonkotsu ramen ($16) made with a three-day bone marrow broth that they make from ham bones and pork trotters from Fink’s meats, which provides locally sourced pork. They finish the broth with al dente ramen noodles and a variety of toppings that can include house-made tea-brined eggs, narutomaki, nori, bok choy and pork belly. The Thai curry ramen ($16) is a vegan, gluten-free broth with curry spices of southern Asia, coconut milk, coconut cream, mirepoix, and gluten-free tamari soy sauce. While it’s served with ramen noodles, rice noodles are a gluten-free option. That ramen can also be dressed up with a variety of toppings. A three-day bone broth takes dedication and commitment to the art and craft of authentic ramen, and this is the real deal.

This very special special is a core of spicy tuna with sushi rice and fried onions wrapped in a beautiful fanned-out avocado, making it look like an egg the size of a softball. It is then dressed with a housemade sauce with tempura flakes for crunch. It’s a showy dish that is heavy on preparation and no matter how many the kitchen makes they often sell out before the dinner shift.
“We are just going to keep changing and experimenting, so we hope to always have a new experience, even for people who eat here frequently,” said Horrighs. “We are pushing boundaries that Springfield hasn’t seen before, and with great results. When we first opened, some people thought this concept wouldn’t work in Springfield, but people were excited about it. This opens the door for more exotic and experimental cuisine, and we love that.”

A definite best kept secret, Taqueria Senor Pequin is unassuming to drive by. Set in a motel parking lot in an old classic diner building, it’s not a place that most would try without a heads up. But take it from us, it’s a great place to crush some tacos and Jarritos and one visit will convert you into a regular customer. CLARK STATE HOLLENBECK BAYLEY CREATIVE ARTS & CONFERENCE CENTER Clark State’s Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center is a state-of-the-art conference facility directly adjacent to Clark State’s Performing Arts Center and the Courtyard by Marriott. Consisting of almost 27,000 square feet on two floors, the HBC has been designed with the highest possible degree of functional flexibility to meet a wide variety of needs. The 18-foot-tall Grand Hall in the west wing will accommodate up to 500 people at round tables for a meeting, dinner or performance, and up to 1000 in a theatre seating format - a capacity not available anywhere else in the downtown area.

COURTYARD BY MARRIOTT, DOWNTOWN SPRINGFIELD The Courtyard by Marriott Springfield Downtown balances an amazing sense of history with an urban location for the ideal business or pleasure travel experience.
