Christopher Brewer BSIA 2020
HELLO!
I
am
Christopher
Simms
Brewer, a 25 year old Tennessee transplant native to North Carolina. I am a graduating Interior
Architecture
University
of
student
Tennessee’s
from
The
College
of
Architecture + Design. I love many aspects of design but one aspect I find to be most important
is
the
ability
to
design
at
a
human scale for human behavior. Over the last four years of design school, I have studied the behavior of inhabitants within a space and designed accordingly. I have a strong interest in hospitality, retail, and corporate interior projects. I take pride in my ability to work well with others and feel strongly that my time spent learning and working collaboratively has allowed me to grow as both an individual and a designer.

FALL 2019 Year 04 Color Ward occupies an old Ford dealership built in the 1920s and acts as an immersive experience for the Knoxville community to experience
the
psychological
effects of colors prescribed by acting doctors and nurses upon arrival. Color Ward was designed to be a permanent exhibition with a small retail space, a mixeduse event space, and a bar with a rooftop component.

The second-floor space is arranged in zoned sitting areas, each with a designated color connecting to an emotion.

were designed with booths that are inset in arched projecting windows to create an ideal intimate setting within the space. Green sofa sitting areas were designed to occupy the middle
of
the
space,
creating
a
more formal area for individuals to meet for cocktails. The color yellow designates the main bar area because of its energetic nature.
LE Atelier
25
spring 2018 Year 02 Le Atelier acts as a space for a fashion designer to make, showcase, and sell their work to the public. The
project
also
contains
a
residential component, with a space designed
for
living
in
the
back
portion of the renovated building, away from the public. The idea of circulation is the driving factor for the design, with the red lacquer staircase leading from the doubleheight
reception
area
up
to
the
second-floor studio acting as the main focal point for the project.

OLD CITY MONTESSORI

spring 2019 Year 03 The
purpose
of
the
Old

years, to come together to learn in

setting.
The
125-year-old
“Wm. Horne & Company” building in the city of Knoxville, TN allows the students to learn + grow in a piece of Knoxville’s history. With the focus of collaboration in mind, the space was designed with an open floor plan allowing the classrooms to open to the entry space, which acts as an auditorium for student performances.

Gensler+utk spring 2020 Year 04 As a shaping force of existing and future cities, Gensler is leveraging mobility through design to create multimodal, vibrant streets and new connections that support growth and sustainability. Beyond sustainability is the concept of resilience, a term that Gensler uses to recognize that design must continuously evolve, adapt to, and prepare for a changing world.
An accelerated rate of development has left our landscapes cluttered with remnants and fragments of our built environments. These traces of our use and occupancy sit idle in often contested states and places. The reactivation of such settings will be the main focus of this studio as we will gauge the synthesis and propagation of new strategies to revitalize our decommissioned built environments.
Led by Jordan Goldstein, Gensler’s Global Director of Design, and Robin Klehr Avia, Gensler’s Regional Managing Principal of NYC and the Northeast region, we are collaborating for a full semester with a professional team of designers at Gensler to design new ideas of multi-program transportation hubs for Uber’s proposed lauch of Uber Elevate, the first aerial ridesharing network, in which Gensler was chosen to design.
