Bring On The Bad and Boujee

3

Spring Scarves Are Back

We’ve all heard Migos ft, Lil Uzi Vert’s song “Bad and Boujee” and we say YES! Incase you don’t know what Boujee is, it’s a slang for Bourgeoisie— elites. This means that for those of you who have a trendy and chic style, Boujee is just for you this spring. The outfit on the right is a great example of how you can stay Boujee but also warm. Fur or faux fur can be found in many different colours at affordable prices. Urban Planet, Guess, and Forever 21 are three stores where you can find some trendy fur coats and vests for under $50.

2

Flower Power

Floral prints are back in style! Spring is in the air and all of the beautiful flowers are blossoming, so why not embrace mother nature’s calling with some colourful flower print attire? There are so many beautiful and trendy patterns in every colour. This look is for the girl that loves simple but is looking for a pop of colour for the spring. American Eagle, Boathouse, and Forever 21 are great places to find affordable flower print shirts, shoes, and pants.

It’s time to ditch the warm wool winter scarf and time to bring in the sexy, silky spring scarf. Spring scarves are fashion statements that become an accessory to the overall outfit. They can be used as a pop of colour to lift that all black outfit or they can be a complimenting accessory to make an even greater fashion statement. Both men and women can benefit from wearing a spring scarf and we highly recommend you jump on the bandwagon. Spring scarves can be found at affordable prices in Forever 21, Zara, H&M, and American Eagle. It’s up to you how you tie the scarf to make your fashion unique.

4

Ripped Jeans and Tee’s

We know that everyone likes a laid back and simple look which is why ripped jeans and tee’s are the perfect spring attire. You can never go wrong throwing on a simple pair of ripped jeans and your favourite t-shirt. This is a look that both guys and girls can rock without looking like you put in much effort. This look can be really great with dark or light jeans and depending on which look you choose, they can send off different messages about your style. Play it safe by going for a relaxed look or have some fun and show off a more trendy and sophisticated outfit. Regardless of the look you choose, it will be a guaranteed success. Ripped jeans can be pricey but American Eagle and H&M have affordable ripped jeans for both men and women. Check it out for yourself!

5

Dress to Impress

The warmer weather during spring is fantastic because it calls for dresses. We know that dresses are not for every girl but for those of you who have been dying to spice up your fashion, then dresses are the best way to do it. Wearing a dress doesn’t mean it has to be uncomfortable or tight but instead it can be fun and comfy. A spring dress can be paired with a high heel or your favourite sneakers. However… FEAR NOT! Those of you who love to make a fashion statement can start shoppping for flamboyant floral dresses! All white dresses brighten the mood of not only those around you but yourself. Affordable spring dresses can be found at many stores in London such as American Eagle, Guess, Forever 21, Garage, and Zara. This spring its time to spice up your style and try something new! We know you won’t regret it and you can expect all your friends asking where you got that dress, comfy or chic!

San JUAN, PUERTO RICO

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA

MONTREAL, CANADA

So, you’ve been hunting for a beach getaway all through these chilly winter months? As close to perfect as it can get, Puerto Rico has a warm and sunny climate year round, with average temperatures between 21-27°C. Hit the Isla Verde beach in Carolina (few mins away from downtown San Juan) for some snorkelling and sunshine, and join the zealous party animals in the historic district of Old San Juan at night. Did we mention that legal drinking age in Puerto Rico is 18?

Known as the birthplace of Jazz, it’s worth going to New Orleans for the music alone. While you’re there, also have a drink, or two, or maybe three at the infamous Bourbon Street in the French Quarter. You won’t want to miss the Mardi Gras celebration, which will kick off on February 24th. Catch the parade as marching bands and floats rumble down New Orleans streets, and be prepared to grab piles of colourful beads and toys that get tossed in to the air by party revelers.

You don’t have to leave Canada, go to the beach, or party all day long to enjoy a relaxing spring break. Alternatively, take a trip back in time and admire the 17th century French-English architectures and beautiful museums Montreal offers. Join a free walking tour and discover the stories and legends of Old Montreal on foot, or grab your skates and glide over to one of Montreal’s outdoor skating rinks. If you’re a foodie, be sure to indulge in Montreal smoked meat, salami, and bagels all week long.

Leaving on a jet plane by Christy Au-Yeung Life happens— you accepted a new job, your partner or spouse got a promotion, or maybe you’re simply looking for a fresh start. Congratulations! You’re moving to a new city, and, let’s face it, moving to a foreign place can be a nerve-wracking task for anyone. Fear not, there is help at hand. All you need to do is, be a little organized and you will be able to familiarize yourself with your new town, faster. Here is the start-to-finish guide to getting acquainted with your new community.

FEB/MAR 2017 | 13

BEFORE MOVING Research, research, research. Moving to a new city requires a lot of thinking and planning, especially when you have never visited or have little knowledge about that place. Once you know which city you are moving to, the next step is to learn all you can from a far about living there. Look online for the price of basic utilities, cost of living, weather, crime statistics, and local culture, which can vary greatly between cities and countries. Pin down specific neighbourhoods you’d like to live in and gather information from residents. If you are moving to a new country, it is important to know about the customs and ethics to lessen the impact of culture shock. Forums and chat groups are also a good way to hear directly from locals. Don’t be afraid to reach out to friends of friends who are living in your new city; they might be able to give you some good advice and resources. Organize your packing in advance. You won’t be able to take everything you want, so make sure you pack only what is necessary. Sort through all your clothes and household items, and try to get rid of things you no longer use. Have a garage sale, sell it online, donate it to thrift stores or give extra items away to friends. When deciding on what to bring over, make sure your basics are covered— office wear, casual wear, home wear, party wear, and sensible shoes that go with everything. Not to mention, it is also a great opportunity to go shopping and get to know more about your new city.

Get involved. Start meeting people in your new town by joining classes, sports teams, volunteer work, or clubs. You will automatically make friends with them if you share a common interest. Remember, you shouldn’t feel self-conscious of wanting to make friends. In fact, people will probably respect you for taking the initiative to introduce yourself. Try to seize on opportunities and try not to turn down an invitation from someone, even if it’s something you wouldn’t normally do— you might end up with a friend for life.

NEW CITY, NEW LIFE, NEW YOU GETTING THE LAY OF THE LAND Learn the neighbourhood. Now, you’ve say goodbye to your beloved ones and actually moved in. It’s time for you to explore and get to know your city. Find the closest grocery store, drug store, bus station, coffee shop, or whatever else you need—the town can seem pretty overwhelming, but it won’t be long until you can navigate your new city with ease. Take advantage of the technology we have now. Follow some local blogs on social media where you can learn first-hand about the best restaurants and sights around. Walking around is the best way to get to know a new space and will allow you to soak up your surroundings, and to meet some of your neighbours. Regardless, don’t be afraid to explore on your own.

Hooray! You’ve taken your first step into a larger world. Making a change is never easy and it’s okay to feel homesick sometimes. Regardless of where you are, always remember how courageous you are. Remember why you started and keep an open mind to new changes. Stay true to yourself and do not get discouraged even if it takes a little longer for you to get along. New friends are like diamonds; old friends are like gold. Make new friends, but also make an effort to stay connected with your long-distance friends and share your amazing experiences from overseas. They will always remind you of who you are and will be excited to see you succeed. Last but not least, learn to appreciate the changes and keep roaming the world.

Remember why you started and keep an open mind to new changes FEB/MAR 2017 | 15
