the Sale!

In the subconscious thoughts...

...of the rest of the world, the south and Texas typify the biggest and most prestigious steer shows in the country - a tradition that has run deep, with many families, both showing and raising these champions. These family activities have come to symbolize many things to many people. The excitement and this way of life, lasts on for generations, for the people that have this in their blood. Some of it is inborn and some of it is learned, at the very least, its successes and its failures are long remembered and burnt into the fibers of our being. The romance, and the importance of people with cattle, in the south and elsewhere, will long live on, through the droughts, the hard times, and the good times as well. This offering, and the name Cream of the Crop and Black Hereford Ranch have become a mainstay in the industry. This is a place that has written a great deal of club calf history. In its 13th year, it has become an annual event and way of life for many people and breeders. This set of cattle continues to evolve and mature, into cow families that we know a great deal about. The opportunity is here! Few people know this business like this outfit does. Join us on June 7th - It’s a real good time! Christy Collins

THE ONLY 2014 SEMEN TO BE SOLD

A true legend... SELLING 300 UNITS OF MADE RIGHT

Champion Polled 2013

Many will argue, that Made Right may be the most successful and most consistent club calf sire of all breeds, based on champions produced in relation to semen sold. The list of Made Right progeny that have sold for $20,000 to $40,000 gets longer every year.

Reserve Hereford 2011

To make a list of high sellers and major champions, sired by Made Right, would take half of this book. He is one of the most highly decorated sires of all time in the business. His semen in recent years, is only sold in June at this event. No other semen will be released this year. The Made Right semen will be sold at the end of the final live lot. Made Right is owned with Curtis Graf. BUYERS NOTE: Semen will be released in the buyers

name, upon payment, at Great Plains Breeders. Please call Great Plains to request shipping, after you have made payment.

Troubadour

SELLING 20 UNITS

SELLING 20 UNITS OF TROUBADOUR The Cream of the Crop sire, Troubadour, sired the Grand Champion Steer at San Antonio in 2014, to highlight his growing list of accomplishments. Troubadour has also sired many more champion steers and heifers. His biggest accomplishment however, may be the success of his daughters. There are several high dollar steers and herd bull prospects emerging out of Troubadour daughters. The hardest part of it all, is that at seven years of age, he is still sound and looks great, but he has not froze semen in over a year. He has sired leading sires, such as Werewolf (Olsen), Yellowstone (Yocham), Choppin’ Wood and Steamroller (Lautner).

BUYERS NOTE: Semen will be released in the buyers name, upon payment, at

Success Stories SPECIAL THANKS TO OUR CUSTOMERS AND FRIENDS

JAMES LISKA purchased a bull in the 2011 Cream of the Crop Sale. One of his first calves won the 2014 Karnes Co Stock Show and made the sale at San Antonio. The bulls we are selling are all capable of siring champion slick sheared steers. KEITH ESSE has been buying top Cream of the Crop bulls and females for his long standing program. He has a great eye for good cattle and has dominated the Rio Grande Valley show for several years and many of his champions are progeny from Cream of the Crop genetics. BRUCE GLOVER has been a volume Cream of the Crop buyer and has purchased several of the top cows and heifers. We appreciate his confidence in our program. In the summer of 2012, one of his Yellow Jacket, COC bred heifers, that he purchased for $4500, raised a $19,500 Carpe Diem steer. RICKY & RUSTY DAY keep shelling out great Hereford steers, sired by Made Right. Days have been the volume buyers of his semen. In 2013, four top Made Right steers, averaged over $20,000, with a top of $40,000. These calves were out of their COC 30-06 daughter that has produced thousands in progeny sales. She has produced Champion and Reserve at Fort Worth more than once, Champion at San Antonio and Grand at Odessa, all of those steers were sired by Made Right. In 2014 one of the top selling 2013 steers went on to be Reserve at Fort Worth. In 2014 three more calves from this mating sold for $10,000 to $30,000. MIKE MIMMS has purchased several COC females for his progressive program in Hereford, TX. A Made Right daughter purchased for $5000 has been a good investment. The first flush out of her brought $6000 and her progeny and embryos have generated many times her initial cost. A Yellow Jacket, he purchased in 2011, out of our 9730 donor, had an $11,700 calf the first time out. Her embryos are generating top dollar. A COC Hairy Bear x Hoo Doo produced $24,000 in sales in her first two calf crops. Mike has also been a volume Made Right semen buyer and has sold several high dollar progeny. You will hear great things from his new COC sire Red Rooster, as son of Lifeline out of the great 524 donor. Be looking for this red powerhouse’s progeny at the Mimms 2015 club calf sale. GREG KROUPA and SHANE BOYSEL purchased a full sister to Silver Bullet (Cream of Crop Donor #159). She continues to produce high sellers, champions and AI sire prospects, like Grey Goose, Addiction, White Noise and True Grit. A daughter of 159 sells as Lot 9, sired by Yellow Jacket. She has a record that is second to none and has produced over 30 times her initial $10,000 price tag. She is still going strong today. Two of the high sellers in the 2013 Donors Unlimited at $28,000 and $8500 were sired by Freeze Frame, a COC bull purchased by Kroupa. Also, in the same sale, Kroupas full sister to Yellow Jacket doubled her initial $14,000 investment price in this sale. Her record is also getting longer, she is now in the Mimms donor pen. BRADLEY HALE of Miami, TX has been a good COC customer. We appreciate his repeat business. The Made Right semen and the COC

females that he has purchased have produced thousands in sales and many champions. A No Apologies sired daughter, raised by Hale, sold for $28,000. That heifer alone, would pay for No Apologies initial purchase price of $25,000. Right On, Just Right, Right Answer and many more Made Right progeny have been produced in the Hale program. CHARLIE BEDNORZ raised FREAKNIQUE, the $29,000 COC bull from a COC sire, Heat of the Moment, and COC daughter sired by Power Alert. She also raised a $17,500 bull sold in the fall of 2013. Charlie has been a great customer and we appreciate getting to merchandise this young herd sire that is now owned by SID ROBINSON. Sid has been a long time COC customer and has put together an outstanding set of females that this bull will work great on. RYAN and RORY WENT have been with this program since the first female sale. They buy several females year after year. In 2013, two of Rorys Charolais females, that he purchased for $2000 each, raised a $10,200 heifer and $7,500 steer. A $7,000 purchase produced an $11,000 heifer calf. DAN KYLE keeps coming back and purchasing one of the best females each year. Dan has been flushing his COC females and has had several ET calves that are top sellers. His purchase of Lot 40 in the 2009 sale, produced an ET Polar Ice that won class 4 of the AOBs in the 2013 Houston Livestock show. This cow has produced over $40,000 in progeny sales and he has retained every one of her daughters. Dan also raised the Yellow Jacket son, Life Jacket that is being promoted by Jacob Tusa. He is also out of one of Dan’s Cream of the Crop donors. MIKE and KENT SPEERS at TRI S RANCH purchased several of the very best females in 2012 to add to their top herd. One of them was Lot 252, sired by Polar Ice. She had a $10,000 calf the first time. A Troubadour daughter, produced a $10,000 son in the spring of 2014. JASON SCHEETZ purchased a daughter of Donor 448 and a daughter of Yellow Jacket in 2009. He paid $13,000 for half of the Lead On x 448 and doubled the bid for full interest and full possession. To date, she has produced $62,000 in progeny sales and $27,000 in embryo sales. She is also the dam of the 2012 Texas State Fair Grand Champion Steer. The same year he purchased half interest in a Yellow Jacket that produced a $15,000 and an $8000 steer calf, with just two bulls being born. TOMMY BYRD is starting a great club calf program in East Texas and has left no stones unturned. He purchased the Lot 1 and Lot 2 bred heifers in the 2012 sale and Lot 1 in the 2011 Fall Bull Sale, named Blue Bayou. The first son, of this top selling bull, sold this spring and almost paid for his initial $10,000 investment price and is making great Brahman steers. You will hear great things from his new COC sire Trailboss, purchased in 2013. EDDIE and RAUL MARTINEZ of 5M RANCH purchased half interest in a Yellow Jacket daughter named African Queen. She was

the coolest bred heifer we had sold to date and backed by lots of good KBC cow families. So far, African Queen has generated over $167,000 in progeny sales. Two of the best heifers in the 2014 and 2015 sales will be African Queen daughters and a Man Among Boys son will highlight the coming fall bull sale. Special Thanks to 5M Ranch for their purchases over the years and the confidence they have shown in this program. JOHN SULLIVAN of Iowa purchased half interest in a W.G. x Casper daughter, sight unseen, in 2006 for $8000. That female is now our 410 donor dam of the $39,000 Troubadour, the $32,700.00 No Spin Zone and a $20,000 daughter. John’s return on this $8000 investment, is additional proof he’s a good business man! 410 had 17 head of ET calves born in the spring of 2013 and five of them headline the bull division in this sale. SCOTT and EUGENE FULLWOOD have purchased many great females and bulls in the Cream of the Crop Sale offerings. This spring, two of their Cream of the Crop Hoo Doo females rang a big bell. The #4 Hoo Doo cow sold for $10,000 originally as a bred heifer, this spring she raised a $12,000 steer and then Fullwoods resold her for $30,000 right off the ranch. On top of that, the #69 Hoo Doo cow that they purchased for $7500 raised the 2012 Champion Limousin Steer at San Antonio, then Fullwoods sold her off the ranch for $25,000. Also, one of the first sons, of their Cream of the Crop herd sire “Bullicious” sold for $14,000. Another Cream of the Crop purchase, “Calliente,” sired the champion steer at San Angelo. BRIAN and DENNIS KENNEDY know about the Cream of the Crop genetics, they have been purchasing outstanding females for years. They produced the Reserve Grand Steer at Houston out of their COC sire, Junior. In the spring of 2012, they sold three steers and three heifers for $89,000 out of a Cream of the Crop Hoo Doo cow, plus they sold a $10,000 Yellow Jacket out of a Hoo Doo Prince that they purchased for $1500. The original Hoo Doo cow that they purchased, had a Godfather heifer and they both have been outstanding producers. The Reserve Grand Steer at Houston in 2013 was produced from these two original cows. They purchased one of the best Carpe Diems we have sold and she was the dam of a $15,000 steer this spring. CHARLIE and CASEY PARKER are partners with Black Hereford Ranch on Torque and Polar Ice. Polar Ice has been a top producer for Black Hereford Ranch the last few seasons. Torque has done a great job as well, his sons include the top selling sire group with a $29,500 top selling steer. He produced the Champion Chi Steer at Houston. We sold an $18,500 steer in the Main Event sale this spring, he was out of a good COC WG daughter that is in their donor pen.

BRANDON HORN Ask Brandon if his Made Right semen was a good investment. He has sold a $25,000 son and has several daughters that have been retained. He purchased a $5200 Charolais bred heifer in the 2010 sale, her first calf sold for $7500. JOHN FILE, long time COC buyer, produced a bull that sold for $13,500 to Bryan Kellogg. He was sired by a COC Picasso son and out of a COC Lifeline daughter. DAN SULLIVAN has purchased some outstanding Cream of the Crop females over the years. He purchased a Hereford cow, 9644, that has been extra good to him. A daughter sold for $25,000 and four more offspring have sold for over $20,000. 9644 has proven a great investment. Hoo Doo Lizzy, another Sullivan purchase has paid for herself. A daughter generated $26,500 and she produced a herd bull DSUL McSteamy. Two of the top calves in the DSUL program this spring were Lizzy offspring. Lot 396 sold for $4000, she produced a $28,000 heifer that was Lot 1 in McKay’s sale. JOHN GRAVES purchased a Lot 1, Hoo Doo bred heifer, her first calf by Tank, sold for $25,000 as a yearling bull in the 2009 Cream of the Crop Bull Sale. Named, “No Apologies,” he is now owned by Bradley Hale. He purchased a $13,000 Tank daughter, she produced a $10,000 Made Right son this spring. KORKY WISE has assembled one of the premier cow herds in the country and many of them are Cream of the Crop females. They have produced Grand or Reserve Grand steers at nearly every major show in Texas. Korky’s most recent success with a COC female was a Reserve Grand Steer at Houston. JOHN BAUMAN purchased Yellow Jacket’s $21,000.00 full sister. Her first calf was a Denver display bull named “Felony,” owned by Bauman and DeRouchey. He has been widely used. ERNEST CLARK and WADE SHACKLEFORD’s purchase of a $3,500.00 Tiger daughter, produced as her first calf, “Duck.” Duck was purchased back by Kris Black and has been a leading Hereford sire in this program. Since her first calf, she has generated over $150,000 in progeny. GARY and DON OHLRICHS of Iowa are long time customers. They produced a $34,000 steer that was named Reserve Champion AOB in Houston from a COC daughter. Another Cream of the Crop female, owned with Wade Shackelford produced the Champion American at San Antonio. Lot 148 Cream of the Crop cow was purchased for $7500. In return, four calves produced more than $100,000.00.

RICKY GREY is also an owner in Polar Ice and the breeder and coowner of Torque. Ricky has been a leading Cream of the Crop customer, producing many top cattle selling through these sales. Special thanks for buying our high selling bull last fall, named Banshee. He keeps his herd moving forward with the best COC genetics. NEAL RAY DAVIS of Davis Cattle Co. in Wheeler, Texas has purchased several extra good ones over the years in the Cream of the Crop Sales. They produced the $28,000 Escalade. They purchased a high selling COC bull named Trailboss, as a yearling and used him two years and then he was a $29,000 high seller in the 2013 sale. They then purchased the $39,000 Yello Repo in 2013 to further their program. BRANDON BIRD has assembled some of the best females and bulls all over the country. Some of his top donors are from Cream of the Crop offerings. His purchase of Troubadour and Hagrid have been successful choices. Thanks Brandon!

2014 Reserve National Champion Charolais Female Bred by Black Hereford Ranch - Maternal sisters by Blanco sell as Lot 18 and 19 and a maternal brother sells as Lot 469, by Troubadour. Her dam is our Miss Hoo Doo Z6017, the stoutest registered purebred to ever leave the Hoo Doo Ranch.

LOT 7

One of the Best Troubadour Daughters to Sell in an Impressive Group The daughters of Troubadour in this offering are one of the most impressive groups of females ever sold in this sale. Troubadour consistently sires an unprecedented look and presence. This heifer is cool and upheaded. She is huge bodied, deep sided and moves free and easy. She’s maternal but still cool enough to generate major league steer prospects. She was hand picked from our longstanding, good customers JE Ranch Foundation. They’ve raised a great one here! You’re gonna love this one. She could headline any major program in the country. She has the body type to make ’em good in the North and the South. Try to find one better!

Tremendous Profile and Outline - Lots of Look and Quality This stout, moderate daughter of Troubadour is a full sister to a $15,000 steer that Kris liked well enough to purchase ten frozen embryos. This is a long necked, beautifully balanced heifer that is correct. She has the profile and eye appeal that everyone is looking for today. The front end of this sale is loaded with big time heifers. Pay attention! Many good cattle have sold at the front end that have generated many times their sale day price. Competition is stiff—many good females will sell. She sells bred to Gold Standard. Yellow Jacket 350 LOT 9

Dam is the Productive Cream of the Crop 159 Donor for Kroupa/Boysel Selling one half interest only, no possession. We sold the Kroupa Boysel 159 donor as a bred heifer in the 2005 Cream of the Crop as Lot 159 for $10,000. Ask Greg Kroupa about her. She has been one of the best investments he has made for his progressive operation in South Dakota. She has produced over $250,000 in progeny sales to date. She is the full sister to Silver Bullet. We retained two flushes from her and ony got three calves, including a $15,000 Friction bull and two Yellow Jacket heifers. The 159 cow is the mother of Grey Goose, True Grit and several other promotable bulls. She also produced the Grand Champion Steer at the Illinois State Fair and numerous other champion heifers. Lot 9 is a great looking female and could have the most value as a breeding piece. She has the look and the design to be the next high dollar earner in this great cow family. We will work with the new owner to see that this female gets it done! Stay hooked here—this is a great one!

Dam is a Full Sister to Red Rooster - Important Cow Family - Predictability Lot 13 is a full sister to Lot 1 in the 2012 sale that commanded $20,000, selling to Tommy Byrd. Her dam, 4178, is a full sister to Red Rooster, which is Mike Mimms’ new herd sire. 4178 sold for $16,000 as a half interest female and was then sold again for $20,000 as a mature cow to Robert Vallejo. Their granddam is Donor 524, who is also Tank’s dam. She has produced several progeny selling for $10,000 to $35,000 and is likely the highest money earning cow at Black Hereford Ranch, with sales over $200,000. Kris has a lot of confidence in this female. She will make a great headline cow for any operation. LOT 271

A Big Bodied Black Powerhouse out of a Great Jake’s Blue The Cream of the Crop females are backed by many good donor dams and great cow families. Many of the good Charolais females are out of top producing black females, and many of the same genetics will be found all the way through this book, no matter what color of hide. Many powerful donors sell in the black hided division this year. There are several registered halfblood and higher percentage Simmentals by leading sires. They are maternal and will work in a club calf or seedstock producing outfit. The dam of Lot 271 is a great producer and one of the best looking cows on the place. She produced a Reserve Grand Steer at San Antonio. She is 13 years old and still in our ET program. This heifer is one of the featured donor candidates in the sale. She is super big bodied, stout and big topped. Very sound in her makeup and good moving.

Still getting it done after 10 years! Without question, Yellow Jacket has proven himself as one of the most consistent and versatile Charolais x Maine sires of this generation. His ability to sire champion females, champion steers and top selling replacement females, donors and herd bulls is unmatched. Few sires can claim the versatility and completeness of this bull. THF and PHAF, sound and consistent—that’s a hard combination to find today. Works great on Heat Wave daughters. RECENT SUCCESSES INCLUDE… • Three frozen embryos sold by Dr. Faber, Iowa, produced a $22,000 heifer and a Denver display sire. • A $20,000 bred heifer sold by Collins to Ryan Went. LOT 453

Selling 5 ET Full Brothers to Troubadour & No Spin Zone! Kris stated, “We have never had this many big time good ones from one donor dam. The 410 donor out did herself this time. There is a little difference in size in these bulls because of age, but they all have a cool, upheaded look and front end. They are big, big bodied, stout boned and big time slick shearing type sires. They have the right hip shape and big tops. I think nowadays it is most important that they are sound and move well. Their older brothers, Troubadour and No Spin Zone, have been outstanding, versatile sires. Troubadour sired the Grand Champion Steer at San Antonio in 2014, to highlight his list of accomplishments. Troubadour has also sired many other champion steers and heifers. His biggest accomplishment may be the success of his daughters. There are several high dollar steers and herd bull prospects emerging out of Troubadour daughters. The saddest part of it all is that at seven years of age, he is still real sound and looks great, but he has not frozen semen in over a year.” Lots 453 and 454 are very similar and the two smoke-colored bulls of the five. Lot 453 is always a standout and liked by many. You really can’t pick a hole in this bull. Sound, good in his hock and right up front. This bull is big backed and has tons of muscle shape and a big, square hip. He has plenty of look and the same presence that Donor 410 passes on to all her progeny. All five of these bulls have the potential to fill the semen opportunity that Troubadour is missing. Come see which one of these brothers you like the best. I’ll bet you’ll be scratching your head! LOT 463 This yellow-colored future super star is bred to sire champion caliber show steers. He has the perfect build and look. We collected him last fall at 12 months of age and then used him to clean up cows in the winter. We anxiously await his first calf crop. This is one of the best individuals in this stout group of bulls. He had lots of hair, but he doesn’t need it to look good. Perfect structure on his feet and legs. You’ll like this one a bunch when you see him in person!

LOT 464 This ET black Monopoly has three full brothers that were sold for steers at $15,000, $12,500 and $7,500. His dam was a Cream of the Crop high seller. He is moderate framed, huge boned and has lots of muscle and a big, square hip. Another one that will be a cow changer and can make good ones out of plain, flatter made females. He would work to make great Americans also.

LOT 465 A lot of people are calling looking for a “good black club calf sire. This one is bred a little different, which is a good thing. He is a super complete, attractive bull that is plenty stout. He had really good hair this winter but looks great without it. He moves with ease, and we expect big things from this one. He will work on all of those clubby females that no one knows what to breed to.
