Every year there has always been at least 100 head of females that do not bring much more than sale barn price. Many can testify that there are good cattle at bargain prices all the way, throughout the entirety of this sale. Mel Manhart purchased a $1,600 Picasso bred ET heifer out of the 623 Angus Donor. She has since then raised a Cream of the Crop, $8,500 Polar Ice bred heifer. The Texas Twister bred heifer she has in this year’s sale is one of the best we have to offer. Come early, stay late, and do your homework. It takes a good deal of time to go through 450 head the right way. There will be many in the bargain bin that will be great investments to fit anyone’s budget. Parker Cattle Company owned by Charlie and Casey Parker have been long time, repeat, customers of some of the very best females and bulls we have had to offer. We are proud for them for raising the Grand Champion Steer at the 2015 Houston Livestock Show. He was out of the good 385 Hoo Doo cow that they purchased from us. Thank you for choosing us to help market your cattle in our Cream of the Crop sales. Look for their powerful offering of females and bulls in this sale, as well as the bulls that we will be selling in our fall bull sale. Tommy Byrd and Sid Robinson pack some of our very best back to East Texas with them every year. Davis Cattle Co. bought “Trail Boss” as a yearling for $14,000 first. We then re-sold him in our 2013 Cream of the Crop Sale for $29,000 to Sid and Tommy. Their first two steers we sold out of him this spring, alone brought $18,000. Wise investments lead to profitable returns. Good job Gentlemen. Mike and Kent Speer from Tri S Ranch have had great success with their Cream of the Crop Females that they’ve purchased over the last three years. The three Troubadour, Polar Ice, and Tank daughters they purchased here in 2012 for $26,250 have produced $108,500 in progeny sales for them. Pretty darn good return on their investment. That’s our goal, to raise and sell cattle that make our customers good profits. Ricky and Rusty Day have sold many champion and high selling Hereford steers. Many of which have been sired by our “Made Right” bull. Many of them, have been ET’s, out of a Cream of the Crop 30-06 daughter, that they purchased from us. She has produced several $100,000 worth of progeny and has had champions at all of the majors in Texas. They believe in her enough that she is now a part of their cloning program. Many thanks for being volume Made Right Semen Buyers. We hope our genetics keep on working for you!
Mike Mimms has been a long time Cream of the Crop customer and has bought some of the best we have to offer. Many of his Cream of the Crop genetics have highlighted his Donors Unlimited Sale. Like his Cream of the Crop H624 Made Right daughter, the COC 903W Yellow Jacket x Taz Daughter, the COC 428 full sister to Yellow Jacket and now his new COC herd sire “Red Rooster” that is out of our $200,000 producing 524 Donor. Being one of the volume buyers of Made Right semen, he has become a Hereford enthusiast, and a force to be recond with. Every Hereford lot, that sold in this year’s Donor’s Unlimited Sale, had at least one Black Hereford Ranch sire in their pedigree. There’s not a better guy, who works harder, and enjoys raising great ones as much as Mike does. We are very grateful for the confidence he has in our program. Raul Martinez of 5M Ranch purchased half interest in a great $39,000 Yellow Jacket daughter, who they call “African Queen.” She has now surpassed the $200,000 mark. She’s nine years old and still going strong. Her best ever is selling in this years offering. Bradley Hale’s Herefords are hard to beat. If you study his pedigrees a lot of them are rich in Black Hereford Ranch blood. Including Made Right, Carpe Diem, Shot Gun, Cannon, Wasp, Outer Limits, Sniper, Dakota, and Bazooka. We hope our genetics continue to help in your success. Congratulations on all of your latest big wins. Ricky Gray has been one of our best customers for years. He has been a great partner on some of our very best bulls like Yellow Jacket, Polar Ice, Banshee, Frost Proof, and Torque. He has put them to good use. The stout set of bred heifers and bulls he’s selling June 13th and this fall are living proof of how helpful a good Cream of the Crop sire can be. Brandon Bird has assembled a group of the very best females and bulls from all over the country. We sure appreciate that he has invested in our program with confidence. Watch for progeny from his Cream of the Crop Females and latest herd bull purchase from us, “Free Bird,” the stoutest Lead On x 410 to date. Ernest Clark and Wade Shackelford purchased a $3,500 “Tiger” daughter as a bred heifer. She has since generated over $150,000 in sales and she has helped put Ernest on the map if you are on the hunt for high caliber Herefords. Brandon Horn purchased his first Club Calf Cow from us when he was first getting started. The rest has been history. He has been back for more, and we wish him continued success with our genetics. Mike Mattearue raised the 2015 Grand Champion Steer at the Nacogdoches County Show sired by his Cream of the Crop herd bull. You will hear more from this operation. Congratulations! Bruce and Dustin Glover have bought several of our top females for their progressive club calf operation over the years. We appreciate their repeat business, and congratulate their success.
Cream of the Crop Success
Special thanks to our customers and friends who have done a great job with our genetics!
Cream of the Crop Success
Success stories... (continued) Jeb Skiles and Bob Beville have been the volume buyers the last two years. They are putting together a set of cows that are second to none. We are excited that they are using our genetics to create a lasting foundation for their cow herd.
The History Behind
Black Hereford Ranch Frank Gilliland
Greg Kroupa has purchased several leading Cream of the Crop Females and Bulls over the years. The Cream of the Crop 159 Cow Donor he purchased for $10,000, has now produced over $300,000 in progeny. Carpe Diem and Freeze Frame, are just a few that have been wonderful investments for his program as well. Jason Scheetz purchased a $26,000 Lead On x 448 Donor as a bred heifer. She is now over the $100,000 mark in progeny sales. She raised the Grand Steer at the State Fair of Texas, that is one of her most notorious sons. Korky Wise has put together a premier cow herd, many of which are Cream of the Crop Females or daughters. He has raised champions at many of the Texas majors, not once but several times. John Sullivan still has not seen his 2006, $8,000 half interest purchase, in what turned into the great 410 Donor. She has surpassed the $300,000 point in sales. She is the dam of Troubadour and 14 of her sons have averaged $18,500 thus far. She is 11 years old and still shelling out the great ones. Check out the eight full sisters to Troubadour she has in this offering, they are special. Brian and Dennis Kennedy have had great success, with their Cream of the Crop females and herd sires. They have produced two Reserve Grand Steers at Houston Livestock Show as well as many other champions and high sellers. Champ Davis bought some of the best of what we had to offer from the time we started. We are thankful for the time and friendship we had with this great cattleman. His son, Neal Ray, has continued to do what Davis Cattle Co. is good at, raising the good ones. Many of the Cream of the Crop Females Champ and Neal Ray have purchased still remain in their Donor pen. Yello Repo, Easy Street and some of the best roam their pastures. Neal Ray’s offering in this sale is deep in quality and rich with our genetics. Thank you for continually believing in our program.
The homestead still stands and serves as a ranch house across from the now home of Gay and Kris Black. The sale tent is always just west over the hill from this house.

wrt 7645 | Red | Fall 2013 SIRE Picante (Heat Wave) DAM WG x 9730 (Taz/Iabon) AI: 5L Defender 11/15 Preg check 4/10: 150 days This daughter of Picante is extra special! From a phenotypic standpoint, she is exceptional! Long necked, great ribbed and very correct describes this featured lot. Picante sired the Champion AOB steer at San Antonio in 2014. Other daughters of Picante sell as Lots 109 to 122. Most importantly, we love the dam of this heifer. Cow family counts when it comes to the success in these major donor candidates. Her Maine granddam, 9730, is one of the top five most important cows ever at Black Hereford Ranch. The success and dollars generated by 9730 have spanned over many years, and she will continue to be seen in many of the pedigrees here. This heifer can be mated many ways. We think that crossing her to many of the successful, higher percentage Charolais bulls will be a big hit. Females with this much look and stoutness and that are this complete are hard to find. This is a major donor candidate and one that we are certainly proud to feature.

ycoc 659 | Smoke | Fall 2013 SIRE Blue Bayou (Yellow Jacket) DAM Solid Gold x Lifeline/524 AI: none — PE only Preg check 4/10: 135 days The dam of Lot 2 was the Lot 1 bred heifer in the 2012 sale at $29,000 to Tommy Byrd. She is a daughter of Solid Gold out of a Lifeline x 524. The 524 donor has generated over $200,000 in progeny sales and is one of the most important cows to this program. 524 was the mother of Tank, Mike Mimms’ Red Rooster and 524 Gold, who sold to Rick Beard. Tank was one of the most influential sires in this program, and the COC-produced Red Rooster is making headlines in the Mimms herd. 524 Gold was her last son and may be the best. The Lifeline granddam to this lot sold for $16,000 for one-half interest in a past COC sale and has done a great job. There is a good, long line of powerful females behind this heifer. Her sire, Blue Bayou, by Yellow Jacket, was Lot 1 in the 2011 COC Bull Sale. He had as much look, style and quality as any bull sold through this offering. He went to Tommy Byrd. This heifer is very complete and useful in her type and kind. She has a world of body and depth, and she is square hipped and pretty fronted. She is also exceptional in her soundness. This is a featured heifer that will look great at the top of any donor program. You know the success of Yellow Jacket and his daughters. There is a lot of predictability in these cattle.

The two heifers that sell as Lots 3 and 4 are full sisters to the popular Peaches, who sold for $24,000 for half interest in the 2013 Cream of the Crop into the Brandon Bird program. They are daughters of Donor 8533, owned by John Graves and originating at Duello’s. 8533 has generated four calves in two years that have averaged $23,500 in COC sales. She has a good Talk Back bull at side now that will turn some heads next fall. In addition, she produced two Man Among Boys steer calves that sold for $20,000 each last year. We think this pair of heifers is extra special. There isn’t a great deal of difference between them. Early visitors have been quick to find these two. They are extremely sound, correct and super stout in their muscle pattern and rib shape. Either of these heifers would be a powerful addition to lead any program. They are stout enough to raise a herd bull, or they will generate top show prospects. Troubadour has a big presence in this sale offering. His daughters are generating champions and making excellent cows. Very little semen is left on Troubadour, and it is currently commanding close to $300 per unit. Nearly 40 daughters or granddaughters of Troubadour sell in this offering, beginning on page 50 with Lot 43.

A maternal brother and sale feature sells as Lot 455 to lead off the bull offering. Here’s a heifer that comes from a long line of great, successful and show winning genetics. Her famed dam, African Queen, has been the highest selling female of all time in the Cream of the Crop Sales at $39,000 for one-half interest; she sold to the 5M program in Texas. In 2012, African Queen produced eight full sibs to this heifer that generated over $160,000 in a single flush to average $20,000 each. Other progeny of this great donor dam have made a big impact here and in other herds. 9630 is the great looking Full Throttle granddam. She is the second favorite, best made cow I have owned ...second only to the 008 great-granddam, who is my all-time favorite, best looking cow ever to walk our pastures. We think a great deal of this red heifer. She looks a lot like her dam and has a hip and front end that just won’t quit. Study the style and the structure of this heifer. They don’t make them like this very often. She has a stout hip and big top to go along with her quality and design. Here is one of the best future donor candidates to sell. She should be extra impressive come sale day.

She has a powerful hip and looks to make an excellent cow. This sale has a strong set of composite females that will work great back to lots of different bulls to raise major competitive cattle. Kris likes this heifer a great deal. Her dam goes back to the 9642 Mailman donor at Black Hereford Ranch. She was flushed for many years and produced many top selling cattle. Lot 6 will be a leading donor dam in any top program. Other daughters of Man Among Boys sell as Lots 149 to 162.

Her dam is one of the top donors there and is sired by the COC-produced Yellow Jacket. Solid Gold has had tremendous success, and some of his daughters have been just as popular as his steer calves. The colored composite heifers start at Lot 109, and the black composite heifers start at Lot 300. Lot 8 is a cool made, big ribbed heifer that will make a stout looking, moderate mature cow. Lot 9 continues the powerful set of Troubadours and the influence of the 410 and 9970 cow families. This heifer has a tremendous dam that sells in the cow division of this sale. She is a Darkhorse (Angus) x Meyer 734. You will like her a lot! Lot 9 is one of the biggest ribbed and deepest sided females in the sale. She is super long necked and smooth shouldered. She is thick made and good through her flank. She looks to make one heck of a mature cow with the maternal background that she has. Lot 9 is a featured female for this offering and without question a future donor dam for any good outfit.

Eight more flush mates to this lot sell as Lots 32 through 39. In the past year, 12 brothers to this mating have averaged over $18,500 and have sold into many leading programs. The only two full sisters to this lot are at work in the Voboril and Kennedy herd and have had tremendous success in their donor pen. Both females were high selling lots in past COC sales and have made as good looking, great uddered cows as you will see anywhere. The famed dam of these lots is Donor 410. She sold for $8,000 for half interest in a past COC sale to John Sullivan and has to date generated over $300,000 in progeny sales. In addition to the full sisters that sell, three three-quarter sisters in blood to Troubadour sell as Lots 40 through 43. This line of cattle has as much quality, style and look as any higher percentage Charolais cattle in the country. They have the hip structure, the outline and the presence that is hard to find in many cattle. Lot 10 is a special individual and one that will be easy to find in these featured heifers. All of these sisters are spring born and were on stalks all winter. They were a little greener at photo time but will be sure to impress on sale week. They are valuable breeding pieces and ones to give high consideration to if you are looking for a big-time donor dam.

She was Kris’s pick of the strong James Birkhead program. This heifer has a great pattern and lots of look. She is nice through her neck and shoulder and is square hipped and good topped. The Birkhead outfit has been a good customer at the Cream of the Crop sales. They have raised a top heifer in this lot to highlight the 2015 offering. They are sibs to a $10,000 COC-sold steer, raised in the Parker program and out of the productive COC Donor 42. An impressive set of Hereford bred heifers sells in this year’s sale. Many are embryo produced and full sibs to many successful cattle. The genetics and the sires represented in this set of Hereford cattle represent years of breeding and selection in this program. The champions and dollars generated in the Kris Black Hereford program would be unprecedented. The blood lines of these Hereford cattle can be seen in most major champions. Buy with confidence in this good set of heifers. Lot 12 and her sisters that sell as Lots 230 and 231, in the Hereford division, are out of the good producing COC donor dam 42, sired by Outer Limits. She sold to Charlie Parker in a past sale as a bred heifer and headlines their donor program. This heifer, and a few others, sell bred to GoJo—a BoJo x Outer Limits, tested TH and PHA free. He is low birth and good marked. He is used in the Parker program and is a bull that Kris has spoken highly of. This heifer will put any breeder at the top for major Hereford production. She has a lot of body and depth of flank; she is correct and nice fronted. For sure, this one is a donor for any major Hereford producing program.

She is huge bodied plus very complete and sound. This will make one heck of a mature cow, and she has the power and quality to rise to the top in any donor program. Her dam is a good daughter of 2XEXT, an Angus bull that was double-bred EXT and left a huge mark on the maternal end of Black Hereford Ranch. Her maternal granddam, sired by a Carney Man son, was one of the best female producers at Black Hereford Ranch. He left several good daughters here and in the Heller herd. Cows like this one will keep you in business for a long time. She is powerful hipped and has a lot of body and flank. Tons of rib and capacity. She’s a real brood cow and future donor.

The first mating to this female could easily be Yellow Jacket or Troubadour, two sires that are working great on composite bred dams. This heifer was picked by Kris out of the leading 5M herd in south Texas that has generated lots of good cattle. When you stack Troubadour, Yellow Jacket and purebred Hoo Doo genetics on top of each other, you are stacking up some of the most successful Charolais and club calf genetics in the country. She is massive in her body and rib. She is one of the deepest flanked, deepest sided heifers to sell. Pedigree wise, she is just as impressive, being a maternal sister to the Champion Chi Steer at the 2009 Houston Livestock Show and out of a good looking Who Made Who daughter. Her sire, BoJo, has had a large presence in this industry, and several daughters have met with big success. There are a lot of purple genetics on both sides of this pedigree. Lot 16 will easily make a top addition to any program. It’s hard to find cattle with this much rib that still maintain this kind of look. She will stick out in the front pens on sale week and won’t be hard to find. She was selected right out of the heart of the replacement pen at Parker’s, breeder of the Houston Livestock Show 2015 Grand Champion Steer.

TROUBADOUR Donor 9970 (dam of Lots 40 through 42) and her daughter 410 (dam of Lots 10 and 32 through 38) are two females that have made a huge impact. 9970, the grandam of Troubadour, is the Casper x Sugar Ray/Epinal that is the mother of 410. In her prime, 9970 was one of the coolest looking, stoutest cows in existence. We are still flushing her at the age of 16, and she raised a natural calf last year. The 9970 daughter 410, sired by the purebred Charolais bull WG, was purchased by John Sullivan in the 2006 Cream of the Crop Sale for $8,000 for half interest and to date has produced over $300,000 in progeny sales. Her most famed son is Troubadour, who sired the 2014 San Antonio Grand Steer and several other major champions. However, it appears that the daughters of Troubadour may end up having the biggest say! In just the last year, 12 full brothers to the heifers selling on page 48 averaged $18,500. The only other two full sisters to Troubadour to date sold for $15,000 and $20,000 to Kennedy Bros. and Kenny Voboril; they both have made extraordinary looking cows with great udders—two of the best looking you’ll see anywhere. 49

LOT 43 – The popular dam of Lot 43 sells as Lot 379. Affectionately named “Shorty,” the dam to this heifer has been a leading donor for John and Angie Graves at Safari Cattle Co. She LOT produced a second place 43 middle weight Shorthorn at Fort Worth in 2015 that sold for $20,000 in a COC sale. She has only been in their flush program for two years. She is one of the most impressive colored cows ever in the business.
LOT 44 – Very good lookin’ and one of the best Troubadour daughters. Her black dam was a leading donor for John Graves and Dave Duello.
LOT 46 – A natural born full sister to Lot 46 sold in 2013 for $7,500. Her dam was a very impressive black baldy daughter of Alias from Duello and Graves. LOT 47 – These up headed, cool looking Troubadour daughters are making great producers. LOT 48 – Extra cool and still really sound. LOT 49 – From a good daughter of Copper Penny. LOT 50 – From a great cow family and ranked high at catalog time.

is a really stout Hoo Doo. One of Kris’s top picks in this group. She’ll go anywhere, sight unseen.
LOT 52 – Moderate and real complete. Heff is easy calving and can generate big return with a first calf. He sired the Reserve Grand Steer at San Antonio in 2014, from a first-calf heifer. LOT 53 – Her purebred Hoo Doo dam has been extra good to us. She raised a Walks Alone that sold for $12,500 to Sally Carwile.

LOT 56 – Sired by the popular Troubadour son Exacto. LOT 57 – Her dam sells as Lot 375. A brother by Red Rooster was the high seller in 2012 at $24,000 in the COC Salado Sale. Another good brother was born last year, sired by Dakota Gold.

EXACTO Sire of Lots 54–57 Troubadour has met with big success in recent seasons, but his sons may well out breed their great sire in time. Several Troubadour sons have topped past Cream of the Crop sales and have been in big demand. One of the top selling Cream of the Crop sons of Troubadour is Exacto, sold to Brandon Bird, Lubbock, Texas, for $16,000. Exacto is doing a great job in the Bird program. This is a powerful set of heifers on the opposite page. They will no doubt have a large presence in any top herd and will generate thousands in progeny sales over the next few years. 51

LOTS 58–69 – These heifers were produced from the Safari Cattle Co. cow herd, which includes a good deal of Meyer and Maine influence. Many of the dams of these heifers would have originated out of the Duello herd in Wyoming. Talk Back and Rollin’ Deep serviced these cows the last three years and did a great job. The genetic background in this set of females is as impressive as their phenotype.
LOT 59 – Very complete built and extra good. LOT 60 – Cool made and really sound. LOT 63 – Ranked high at catalog time. Really good looking and complete.

LOT 77 – A very complete, impressive young female. LOT 78 – Really nice, smokey and well built. LOT 79 – Yellow Jacket daughters have made great producers.

YELLOW JACKET Yellow Jacket continues to impress himself upon this industry, 13 years after he was born. Not many bulls have that kind of staying power in this business. He sired an $82,000 bull sold in the Reimann dispersal as well as several other high selling progeny just this past year. He has been on the top or bottom side of many champions across the country. Both his daughters and his sons have won major championships. He was out of one of the first Hoo Doo females on this place, “Phylli,” who generated over $100,000 in sales for us. Yellow Jacket and his one-of-a-kind dam are the only two animals we have cloned. George, bred in this herd, is straight Hoo Doo genetics. George was named after Hoo Doo’s manager, who was responsible for much of the breeding and its success on that ranch. The opposite page contains a good set of females sired by these genetics. 55

These Jazz daughters are from the successful 104 donor at Travis Otterstad’s and Jake Wynne’s that has produced over $60K in progeny and embryo sales, including a $15,000 full sib steer to these sisters. Lot 100 is very impressive in person. She has a great deal of pattern and style. She is moderate and big bodied with good shape and width. She will make a powerful donor and a very impressive, easy keeping mature cow. Her pedigree and roan pattern give her the potential to produce good Shorthorn prospects.
LOTS 102 & 103 – ET full sisters sell as Lots 102 and 103. Here are two really good embryo-produced heifers by Jake’s Proud Jazz and out of a very successful Golden Child donor dam. When Kris spotted these two heifers, he had to own them. He was the last one standing after arguing them away from Haymes and Devon.
Charolais sires that have made an impact at Black Hereford Ranch
LOT 104 – Pay attention, Shorthorn steer raisers! This heifer is extra nice and will make a stout cow. From Levoy and Landon Ringo.
LOT 105 – Extra style and eye appeal. Sired by the famous Fire Water.
LOT 106 – This is a good example of what a COC first-calf heifer can do. Jr. Garza did a good job picking out this heifer’s dam in a past sale. This heifer had high marks at catalog time and should have been pictured. She could end up at the top of the heap come sale day. She would satisfy any sight-unseen buyer.

Purebred Hoo Doo females produced this year’s Champion Simmental and Grand Champion Steer at Houston. LOT 109 – The dam of this heifer is a great Hoo Doo cow with a big, stout hip. LOT 123 – Lots 123 through 125 are sired by Freaknique, the $30,000 high selling bull in the 2013 Female Sale to Sid Robinson, a longtime COC customer. Freaknique is as good looking as any sire ever sold in this program. This heifer is made right and has lots of style. LOT 124 – This heifer looks as impressive as her sire. Great pedigree on her dam’s side. Lots of genetics here and from Charlie Bednorz, the breeder of Freaknique. LOT 125 – Extra thick, wide based and one of the nicest in this group. LOTS 126–128 – Full sisters sell as Lots 126, 127 and 128. These flush mates are maternal sisters to a COC steer that sold for $29,000 in Salado and a COC bred heifer that commanded $15,600 in 2012 and another at $6,000. Donor 432 also produced two bulls that averaged $8,500 in a past COC bull sale. These heifers have the right build, a powerful hip and are all very sound. They are from the progressive Parker program that produced the Grand Steer at the 2015 Houston Stock Show. LOT 129 – Her maternal sister, sired by Texas Twister, sells as Lot 136. The dam of this impressive heifer sold to Bird and Fullwood for $35,000 and was LOT 129 one of the best looking females to ever sell here. She was out of the $200,000 producing 524 donor. This heifer has lots of potential and will be a sale featured lot. LOT 130 – Her dam is one of the best and goes back to Hoo Doo 6017. Her Blanco-sired dam was out of the $200,000 producing 6017 donor and was the dam of the 2013 AICA Show Heifer of the Year. The dam of Lot 130 was purchased by 5M for $20,000. LOT 131 – Maternal sister to a $4,000 bred heifer in 2014. Lots of muscle, deep and moderate. LOT 132 – This heifer is a full brother to an $18,000 steer that we sold in the Main Event Sale in 2014. Another steer sold for $5,000. The dam was a $12,000 COC bred, sold to Parkers. LOT 133 – Kris said, “This will be a real looker by sale day.” Another good one from Parkers, she can go anywhere sight unseen.

LOT 188 – ET sisters sell as Lots 188 and 189. This complete, big ribbed heifer will make an excellent cow with lots of genetic potential. These two are from the Parker ET program. A maternal sister sold for $4,700 in 2012. Maternal brothers generated $10,000 and $5,000 in 2012 and $5,000 in 2009. LOT 189 – Lot 189 has the chance to shine on sale week. She was a little greener and younger at photo time. This heifer is hard to turn when it comes to balance and design. LOT 190 – This heifer is extra good and out of a good Lifeline daughter. Choke necked and big hipped! Lots of bone. Her dam raised a $6,500 steer and replacement heifers for Parkers. LOT 191 – A maternal brother by Monopoly sells in the bull division, Lot 468. He is one of the best bulls selling. Another maternal sib sold for $7,000 in 2014. Fat Joe was the $9,000 COC bull that sold in 2012 to Melinda Olsen. This heifer is a sale feature. She has donor dam potential. One of the best from Parkers. LOT 193 – This heifer was our pick from a really deep set at Jess Shirley’s. She is really deep and sound. LOT 194 – Her sire, Night Moves, is out of the Thorne 008 donor. Lot 194 will make a stout, impressive mature cow. LOT 196 – Lot 196 is a full sister to Carpe Diem! Really correct and designed right. LOT 198 – Stout built with a really square hip structure. You won’t see many yellow granddaughters of Steel Force built like this one. LOT 199 – Faultless! This one is as good looking as they come with lots of body. LOT 200 – Sired by the $29,000 Trailboss and bred to the proven low birth weight Easy Street. Cool one from Davis Cattle. LOT 201 – Really deep bodied. Kris likes this heifer a lot. LOT 202 – From a first-calf heifer out of a stout Troubadour daughter that sold to Phillip Renner in 2013.

Hereford Influence Most of the Hereford heifers were AI’d to Genex’s calving ease Hereford bull Sensation 028X (CED +13, BW –2.8). He is moderate and darn good looking! They were cleaned up with KBC Safe—a good looking, low birth weight Fuzzy son that we have used successfully on heifers, and a good registered Hereford, frame score 5 bull from Barber Ranch. The last two weeks, they were also exposed to two good low birth weight Angus bulls.

Full sisters sell as Lots 203–205. The dam of this set of embryo heifers was a 500-pound heifer calf when she sold to John Graves for $14,000 in the LOT spring 2010 COC Sale. 203 These heifers are also full sibs to a COC $17,500 steer that sold in 2014. Lot 203 is extra nice, really long necked, correct and nice hipped. These three heifers are built for major show steer production. LOT 206 – This is one of the leading Hereford heifers to sell. Here’s one that Kris has marked at the top of his list. LOT 207 – This heifer was our pick out of Barber Ranch’s fall heifers. She is an ET out of a Barber donor dam. Pay close attention here. LOT 208 – A top in the Hereford offering. This heifer should have been pictured. LOT 209 – The dam of Lot 209 is a standout at Black Hereford Ranch. This heifer is stout and good. LOTS 210–212 – The donor dam to the three full sisters selling as Lots 210, 211 and 212 was purchased by Ray Hickok out of a COC sale. She has generated lots of good cattle! The Lot 210 heifer is stout hipped and made right. LOT 213–214 – Pay close attention here! These are full sisters to the Champion Polled Hereford Steer in Fort Worth 2013. They are also full sibs to a COC $20,000 steer that was a high seller in Salado to Tom Kelley. This is the only steer that Tom Kelley thought enough of to pull DNA on. Their dam has been outstanding in this operation. 9647 is on our list of cows that need to be cloned. LOT 215 – The dam of Lot 215 is one the stoutest Herefordmarked cows in existence. A full sister to this lot sold for $8,500 in 2012 to Rick Beard.

MADE RIGHT Made Right’s list of champions continues to grow. As his success indicates, he is likely the most dominant sire in the club calf business when you consider the champions produced in accordance to the amount of semen sold. He is certainly one of the most consistent sires of all time. Just this year, in 2015, he added the Grand and Reserve Grand Steers at Odessa, the Reserve Polled Steer at Odessa, the Reserve Hereford Steer at Fort Worth and the Champion Hereford at San Antonio; a daughter produced the 2015 Champion Hereford Steer at Oklahoma City. Made Right also sired a $70,000 son that sold in the 2015 Embryos on Snow Sale named Battle Cry. His semen sells as Lots 601–625.

LOT 216 – Two maternal brothers by Made Right sold for $7,000 and $5,000. This heifer is really deep and square.
LOT 217 – The 2107 granddam of this heifer is the dam of 30-06, the sire of Day’s leading donor dam—the COC super cow that has generated several hundred thousand dollars in sales and many champions at the majors. She is in their cloning program. This heifer is extra deep, wide and good. LOT 218 – Nine 10-39 daughters sell. 10-39 is the full brother to Made Right that may take his place in the record books. LOT 219 – Very moderate and complete. Will make a good producer. LOT 220 – Great hipped and stout. Out of a good Hale cow. LOT 221 – Her dam is an impressive daughter of H2, a widely used sire from Wendell Dunn. LOT 222 – Lots of muscle shape and nice design. LOT 223 – Big, square hip and lots of look. LOT 224 – 10-39 is a full brother to Made Right, being out of the great 9929. The dam of this heifer is a Reload x 9929, which makes her line bred to this great cow family. LOT 225 – Sired by a darn good Right On son that was an IVF out of Made Right’s dam, Donor 9929. He was big hipped and moderate…I wish I would have kept him. You will like all of these daughters. Daughters of 9929 sell as Lots 232–235 and 260. LOT 227 – The sire of Lots 225–227 is line bred to Made Right’s dam. This bull and this heifer are stout and have a big, square hip in them. LOT 228 – The dam of this lot was the high selling female in 2012 to Charlie Parker at $26,000 for half interest. She is impressive! This heifer is a full sib to a $10,000 COC steer that was second place middle weight Hereford in Fort Worth this past February. LOT 229 – An ET full sister to Right Choice. His first calf crop was a hit in 2015. He is our new herd sire owned with Haseloff. This heifer is super deep and thick.

Reserve Champion Hereford Steer, Houston 2014…sired by 10–39 and bred and sold by Day Cattle Co.
10–39 is the full brother to Made Right that sired the Reserve Champion Hereford Steer at Houston in 2014 from his first calf crop. 10–39 is poised to fill the shoes of his great brother. Many high sellers and champions sired by this great bull have been sold. His daughters selling here are exceptional! Kris has stated that this may be the best set of Hereford heifers that has ever sold in this sale offering or off of this place. They are stout and backed by years of selective breeding just for this industry. 71

LOTS 245–248 – Four daughters of our Carpe Diem son JK Deadliest Catch sell as Lots 245–248. Deadliest Catch sired the Champion Polled Steer at Fort Worth this year from his first calves to sell. We are looking for great things from this young sire, an ET out of a good Channing daughter.
LOT 246 – Really stout and big hipped. A top Hereford to sell in the entire offering.
LOT 247 – Another heifer that was marked real high by Kris at catalog time. LOT 248 – One of the best of any color to sell. She should have been pictured. Lots of power and real complete. LOTS 249–258 – Ten daughters of Wade Rodgers’ Deadliest Catch sell as Lots 249–258. Wade’s Deadliest Catch is sired by our Outer Limits bull, that we own with Gerald Haseloff. Outer Limits has left us with a great set of females. They are some of the best producers at both places.
LOT 249 – A real deep made heifer that is extra stout. She goes back to the old Ace bull two times. Ace is the sire of Outer Limits. Ace sired several Texas major champions. LOT 250 – A bigger, stout spring born. Her dam is extra nice. LOT 253 – Really thick with lots of muscle shape. LOT 256 – Deep sided and nice frame size. A full brother to this heifer sold for $7,500 that was extra stout. This heifer could have easily been featured and should have been pictured. Other maternal sisters to this lot sell as Lots 232–235.

LOT 265 – A real good looking purebred Charolais. Dam is a moderate, deep, good looking cow. A maternal brother will be one of the highlights of our 2015 Fall Bull Sale.
LOT 266 – This is a purebred female by the extra stout Captain America. Purebreds like the ones selling in this group are hard to come by. This one is really good looking. She should be a standout come sale day.
LOT 267 – This heifer goes back two times to the mother of George and is sired by a stout $10,000 George son. There are a lot of genetics in this stout, good cow maker. LOT 268 – This is one of the best purebred Hoo Doo females that we have had on the place. Her Hoo Doo donor dam was Kris’s pick of 1600 bred heifers in 2006 at Hoo Doo Ranch. George, the Hoo Doo manager, only let Kris pick one out of the bred replacement pen, and it was the dam of this heifer. She is still one of the favorite cows on this place. These spring heifers ran on stalks all winter. This one is extra nice and was just too green at photo time.

270. Sired by a $10,000 son of George, back on a good full sister to Blanco. The #4 bull was out of the $24,000 high selling Exposure female from Black Hereford Ranch that sold to DeRouchey. Lots of stout Charolais genetics here.
LOT 271 – This one will make a great cow. Her dam has been on this ranch for years. She is deep bodied and moderate. Ringo’s replacements and sired by a good COC 3/4 Prince. She’s one of the very best in the entire offering, of any color. She is sired by a 3/4 Prince son that is moderate and really good made. Ones like him are hard to find.
LOT 274 – 274 is sired by J10, a full brother to Polar Ice. He sired some great cattle and then broke his leg. You will look long and hard to find a set of purebreds this good. Lot 274 is another standout heifer in this group of purebreds. She had lots of stars by her on Kris’s notebook. LOTS 275–276 – Twins sell as Lots 275 and 276. They are out of a 12-year-old purebred Hoo Doo that is one of the stoutest in existence. These are some of the coolest purebreds anywhere. Both heifers are ranked really high in this group.

IN FLU E N C E LOTS 280–284 – Five daughters of the great female making Grandmaster sell in this set. They are registerable half blood Simmentals. They are deep bodied and will add great maternal influence to any program. Lot 280 is out of a really good dam.
LOT 281 – Kris noted the dam of Lot 281 is a really stout, productive Maine-influenced cow.
LOT 282 – Three-quarter Simmental. The dam of Lot 282, sired by Meyer 734, was ET produced in this program and was out of the 20E Angus cow that was flushed for several years.
LOT 283 – Lot 283 is out of a daughter of Triangleton 91-31, the Maine super cow that has generated thousands of dollars and left her mark at Black Hereford Ranch. This is one of the most important cow families ever in this operation. This female will be a can’t-miss producer.
LOT 284 – A half blood Simmental with Yellow Jacket influence on the bottom side. This heifer is another one that had high marks at catalog time. LOT 285 – A good half blood with a touch of Maine. She will make a good mature cow.
LOT 286 – This set of Simmental and maternal-influenced heifers is a good opportunity to add some complete, easy keeping genetics back into your herd. They have several generations of good cow families on both sides of their pedigree.
LOT 287 – The success of the Meyer x Angus females from Ryan Went is unprecedented. This one was hand picked out of the heart of that herd. You can’t go wrong here. LOT 288 – This Tuell-bred half blood Simmental is sired by a good Upgrade son out of Broker’s dam. She can go anywhere…guaranteed, sight unseen. Kris really likes this heifer! She has lots of depth and is really correct. There are a lot of good genetics in this lot. LOT 289 – Kris stated that he would take a load of high percentage Simmental females like this one. This heifer is a maternal power house. She can raise a herd bull or show prospect in any leading herd. Here’s a heifer that has lots of donor potential and should have been pictured. You won’t find many Simmental donor candidates with this much power and this good. Study this one close…one of the best to sell! LOT 290 – This heifer will make a super cow! Good pedigree. INF LU E N C E
This set of Angus-sired heifers has been rigidly culled. They are big bodied and should make easy keeping, good hipped and good uddered cows that can provide a foundation for any herd. LOT 344 – This heifer was produced from a COC firstcalf heifer. Lots of quality and loads of style. Very versatile, you can breed this one many different ways. LOT LOT 345 – This ET heifer is 344 extra special. She is probably the last daughter of 91-31 that will sell. This foundation Maine cow produced over $150,000 in sales for us and has without question been a cornerstone dam. LOT 346 – A good purebred Angus that is deep bodied and square. Her dam is a good, moderate easy keeper. LOT 347 – This good heifer will make a great replacement. LOT 348 – Lots of body and extra stoutness. LOT 349 – Lots of body and capacity. Great cow maker. LOT 350 – A top marked heifer at catalog time. LOT 353 – Good hip and lots of body. Has a shot of American on her bottom side from a Cyril Wolfe daughter of JT. LOT 354 – Her grandam was 623, another leading Angus donor dam that would make them as good looking as any cow out there. This heifer is extra nice and has lots of rib. LOT 357 – This daughter of Dan Leddy’s Red Red Wine was out of a first-calf heifer that is one of the best looking young three-year-olds on the place. Her dam’s sire, Polar Ice, is still one of the highest selling, best producing purebred bulls we have sold. Here’s one of the best in this group!

HE IF E R S LOTS 358–359 – Lots 358 and 359 are daughters of Six Mile Countess 105Y, the 2012 National Champion Red Angus female. Lot 359 is a full sister to the $18,000 Red Angus bull purchased by Hales in the Fall 2014 Cream of the Crop Bull Sale. Another maternal sister to these lots sold for $42,000 this past fall to Duff Cattle Co. and was Junior Calf Champion at the 2015 National Western. Both of these heifers will make top females to add to any Red Angus program or to breed back Charolais. These heifers have lots of body and are really stout for purebreds.
LOTS 360–366 – Maternal or embryo sisters sell as Lots 360–366. Their dam sells as Lot 378 and is one of the most impressive Shorthorn cows ever in the club calf business. Her success is just beginning, with this being some of the first of her embryo progeny. She produced a second place middle weight at Fort Worth last year and has also generated several brothers in COC sales that sold from $5,000 to $15,000 out of her first embryo crop at Safari. You will like the structure and hip in all of these heifers. They are built right. Study them and take your pick…nothing is being held back. LOT 360 – This is a top heifer in this stout set of ET sisters and one that could have led off the entire sale offering. Don’t overlook her!
LOT 366 – Asset is the Solution son whose semen is currently demanding $300 per unit.

AMERICAN BREEDERS: TAKE NOTE! LOT 367 – Blue Bayou was purchased by Tommy Byrd in the Fall 2011 COC Bull Sale as Lot 1. Two sons made the sale at Houston this year. This half blood heifer is out of a nice, moderate gray Brahman cow and is bred just like her two brothers that made the sale at Houston this year. LOT 368 – Kris picked this heifer out of a large set of Brangus replacement females. She is stout and good looking.
LOT 369 – This heifer is out of a cow that we purchased from Dr. Warner’s dispersal sale. Her dam has an ultra stout, yellow American bull calf on her, sired by our $38,000, high selling bull in the June 2014 sale, 24 Carat, that went to Brad Holt. This heifer is one of the most powerful females in the offering.

LOT 374
Reg. PB Charolais (AICA F1160678) | May 2012 | Polled | ET SIRE TR Mr Fire Water 5792RET DAM Hoo Doo Z6017
Terms of Ms Voodoo 6017 Flush • Seller guarantees a minimum of six embryos by the bull of the buyer’s choice. Any embryos produced over eight will be split evenly between the buyer and seller.
Fire Water progeny have dominated the Charolais breed’s show ring for several years. Kate Shaffer showed this amazing heifer in 2014, when she was the winningest heifer in the country. We believe that she is the most perfect made Fire Water daughter in existence. Her dam is our high earning Hoo Doo Z6017 donor cow, who has produced over $250,000 in progeny sales and is the stoutest registered Hoo Doo cow ever. Her most distinguished son is Camp Cooley’s “Smart Choice.” Daughters that she has produced have been high sellers several times, bringing from $15,000 to $40,000. Voodoo’s winning streak began at the 2013 Regional Classic at Sedalia, MO, then Reserve Grand at the Missouri State Fair, then 2013 Grand Champion, Kansas City American Royal, and then from there she went on to the National Western in Denver, where she was Grand in the Junior Show and National Reserve Grand in the Open Show. Congratulations to the Shaffer family of Carthage, MO, on a job well done! It took a lot of arm twisting, but I talked Kate into offering a flush on this very special cow. She will calve before sale day and should be ready to flush by August 1, 2015.
• Seller guarantees at least two pregnancies if transferred by a certified embryologist that we agree to. • Semen and all expenses associated with the flush will be paid for by the buyer. • Flush will take place at Shaffer’s Ranch in Carthage, MO. • We will work with you on getting them put in fresh or can freeze and ship wherever you need them. • If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call and talk with Kris about this exciting opportunity!

She has turned into a super producing, good looking mature cow. In 2013, she produced a $24,000 Red Rooster steer; her 2014 calf got hurt, or he would have been one of the best we had to offer this spring. A daughter by Exacto sells as Lot 57. This is one of the stoutest females you will see this weekend. She has a powerful hip and hind leg and lots of look and style to go along with her power. She also has a lot of rib shape and flank to be as cool and stout as she is. She is sound and has made a real good mother. Lot 375 has been tested THC. She sells serviced to Business Done Right and was cleaned up with the $18,000 full brother to Troubadour that sold in last year’s June sale to Robert Vallejo. She was also exposed to the #4 George son. She has never been flushed, and we are reserving the right to partner on two flushes out of this great cow.

No Apologies has generated some top sellers and has sired many good, complete females that are making good cows. This good looking cow sold as Lot 1 in the June 2008 Cream of the Crop Sale and had No Apologies as her first calf. She has been a leading producer for Safari Cattle Company and is a great egg producer, averaging 10 to 12 eggs per flush. Over 10 calves have sold for an average of over $6,500 in the Cream of the Crop Sales. In 2011, she produced a calf by Heat Wave that was second in Class 4 crossbreds at Fort Worth. This straight Hoo Doo bred female was one of the best looking and biggest bodied females to ever sell in a Cream of the Crop offering. She will be ready to flush this fall after she calves to the $16,000 Talk Back, sired by Troubadour. This is a top donor opportunity and a great cow that could headline any ET program. A COC Hoo Doo female raised this year’s Houston Grand Champion Steer and Champion Simmental. These genetics are proven.

LOT 377 – Just a three-year-old, she is a sister to a steer that sold for $29,000 and bred heifers that commanded $15,600 and $6,000 in past COC sales. Her dam has also produced two bulls averaging $8,500. Maternal sisters sell in the bred heifer division as Lots 126, 127 and 128. One of the best looking females Charlie and Casey Parker have owned! LOT 378 – A top donor in the Safari program! She produced two Monopoly steer calves, one selling for $6,000 and another for $6,500 in COC sales. This female has a great pattern and has always had lots of eye appeal. She is a good egg producer and only sells for that reason. She has averaged over eight embryos in approximately five flushes. She has not been flushed in the past three years. LOT 379 – This Shorthorn donor is a stout one and one of the most eye-catching females in the country. She has had a productive stint in the Safari program and originated at Duello’s. Last year she produced $12,500 and $17,500 steers, one of which went on to be third place middle weight Shorthorn at Fort Worth this year. Kris sold another $12,500 steer this past spring. Eight good daughters sell in the bred heifer offering as Lots 43 and 360–366. She has not been flushed in two years and has been a good egg producer, averaging eight embryos in six flushes. LOT 380 – Neal Ray Davis has been a loyal customer at our COC sales for years! This big bellied, stout Tank daughter from his program will fit in the top end anywhere she goes. LOT 381 – You’re going to like this 3/4 Angus cow. She is good looking, good bodied and sound. Her Troubadour daughter sells as feature Lot 9 in the bred heifers. LOT 382 – Really stout and big boned. She is a full sister to the dam of the 2013 Grand Steer at Oklahoma City. This is another good cow family from Davis Cattle Co. LOT 383 – This may be the longest necked cow I have seen, and she is royally bred. LOT 384 – Here’s a package that will generate lots of cash. LOT 386 – Registered 1/2 Simm. She was Calf Champion Low Percentage Heifer at Denver in 2009. As huge bodied and stout as you’ll see, she had the champion heavy steer at the Pennsylvania Farm Show. Will have a good 3/4 this fall. LOT 387 – Out of a daughter of the $29,000 COC bull Escalade, she sells bred to the $39,000 COC bull Yello Repo. Both of these leading sires are owned with Davis Cattle Co. LOT 388 – As cool as they get! She is out of a great COC cow, selected by the Fullwoods and now in their ET program. LOTS 389–390 – Embryo full sisters sell as Lots 389 and 390. Maternal sisters to Milkman, they are both stout and good looking. They are the kind that we have sold some very high dollar Texas Twisters out of. LOT 391 – Embryo produced. A full brother sold for $10,000 in our 2013 sale. A mating to Troubadour’s full brother could generate big returns with this young cow. Out of a real nice Hoo Doo dam. She’s bred to raise a high seller.

3 Frozen Embryos SIRE Went 360 (Heat Wave x Who Made Who)
The fall-calving cow herd in the successful and nationally known Ryan Went program sells in its entirety in this sale offering on June 13th. Ryan was set to have a sale in July before he and Kris made the decision to sell them all right here. This set of cows has produced many high sellers that have sold right out of the pasture at Wents’. They have the body and power that Wents are known to produce. Many of these cows have daughters in the spring program there, and other daughters have topped their February cow sales. Take a close look here! They are mated and AI serviced to generate big return this fall. Ryan and Jan will be at the sale and will be glad to visit with you about any of these cattle! This is a super stout set and a great addition to this exciting weekend. This great daughter of Paddy raised a steer calf that sold for $9,000 right out of the pasture at Wents’. She has been flushed once to Heat Wave and produced a $10,200 steer. A real stout heifer is at work in the spring program. More calves out of this featured cow will be born at Wents’ this coming fall in their recip herd. Here’s a big opportunity to buy a Maine-influence cow that has a lot of maternal influence. She could bring lots of attention to any big-time program.

Went 979 | Black | 2009 SIRE Paddy O’Malley (Irish Whiskey) DAM Angus PE: Smoky Mountain PE: Red Dirt, Color Me Up, Smoke N Mirrors This stout cow is one of Ryan’s favorite females. She raised a $12,500 son of Monopoly. A daughter sold in the spring Went female sale for $9,000, and another daughter is in production at the ranch. She also raised a Heat Wave steer that sold for $7,500 right out of the pasture. This daughter of Paddy will be a sale feature. She is goose necked and has a huge, powerful hip. She is in her prime and would be a valuable addition to any ET program. The Went females were either AI serviced or they ran with Gold Rush for most of their pasture exposure. Ryan feels like most of these females should calve to their AI date where listed. Red Dirt, Color Me Up and Smoke N Mirrors cleaned up some of the cows for two weeks at the end of their pasture exposure.

ycoc 404 | Yellow | Oct. 2013 | Polled | Bull SIRE Man Among Boys (Monopoly) DAM African Queen 614 (Yellow Jacket x 9630 Full Throttle x 008 Donor) We have a powerful lot to lead off the bull offering for this sale. This son of one of the hottest sires in America, Man Among Boys, has a great deal of potential. We think he has AI sire marketability, and he will be a powerful herd bull that can generate high selling steers or major champions in any program. If you are looking for a herd bull backed by a great dam, this is one for serious consideration. His famed dam, African Queen, has been the highest selling female of all time in the Cream of the Crop sales at $39,000 for one-half interest. She sold to the 5M program in Texas. In 2012, African Queen produced eight maternal sibs to this bull that generated over $160,000 in a single flush to average $20,000 each. African Queen has generated over $200,000 in progeny. Other progeny of this great donor dam have made a big impact here as well as in other herds. The grandam to this bull, a daughter of Full Throttle, was one of the best looking cows ever at Black Hereford Ranch. Kris stated, “9630 is the second favorite, best made cow I have owned...second only to the 008 great-granddam, who is my all-time favorite, best looking cow ever to walk our pastures.” This bull is one of the very best for today’s market and certainly one of the best bulls to ever sell out of the Cream of the Crop sales. Lot 455 is as stout and wide as they come. He has a great, square hip, a big top and a perfect hind leg. He is up headed and good necked and has the same look and style possessed by his great dam. God doesn’t make them like this one very often. Two maternal sisters sells as Lots 5 and 134, sired by Texas Twister.

Kris stated, “This is one of the best purebred, straight Hoo Doo Charolais bulls that has been around here.”
Here’s another purebred bull that is great built, moderate and sound. His pedigree is straight Hoo Doo genetics. Here’s one you can raise show steers out of and build a great set of cows from too.
Lot 456 is perfect sized, which is hard to find. He is built great to sire slick sheared steers. He’s big topped, super hipped and has plenty of belly. In addition to his potential to throw top selling steer calves, his daughters will be outstanding—the kind to build a cow herd around. He is very soft made and still nice fronted.

He is out of a great producing, good looking old Hoo Doo Ranch purebred Charolais cow that has been good to us. The sire of Lot 457 is a smaller, stouter full sib to Polar Ice that we are really high on. We lost him as a two-year-old, with very little semen on hand.
The dam of Lot 456 is highly noted by Kris and is one of the best purebred Hoo Doos in this program. She produced a $24,750 bred heifer in 2013 that sold to Phillip Renner. Good purebred bulls like this one are not easy to get your hands on.
NOTE TO BULL BUYERS: Purchaser is buying full possession, 2/3 semen interest and full salvage value, unless otherwise stated. Black Hereford Ranch will retain a 1/3 semen interest, including 1/3 semen sales, in each bull selling.

The dam of this lot has been a great producer and has a killer look. Lots of cows are in need of a bull like this one. He was unbelievably hairy. His dam produced the Grand Champion Steer at the 2014 Arizona National and the Division 1 Champion Steer at the 2014 American Royal.

two impressive calf crops on the ground for James Birkhead. He was a high seller at $16,000 in our 2012 fall sale and made a super stout, good looking herd bull. This bull was our pick of James’s 2014 crop and is out of great purebred Hoo Doo dam.
LOT 464 – A good looking bull that is stout enough and moves really good. His dam is the huge bodied Jake’s Blue that raised the Reserve Grand Steer at San Antonio, plus an $8,500 bred heifer by Thriller sold to Josh Enlow in 2014. Another daughter of this great cow and sired by Wooly Bully sold to Jeffrey Sanchez for $10,000 in 2011. LOT 465 – This is the hardest muscled and coolest bull in this stout group of bulls. This bull is bred and built to raise champion slick shearing steers. He is great hipped and heavy enough muscled to work on Brahman and American-cross cows.

LOT 466 – This bull is a 7/8 brother to the 2015 Grand Champion Steer and Champion Simmental Steer at the Houston Livestock Show—two steers that were sold here. He’s moderate, pink nosed and has a big, square hip and monster top. This bull is sound as ever and is out of one stout, great 13-year-old purebred Hoo Doo cow that we’re still flushing.
LOT 467 – This stout, real good made bull is extra sound. He’s great made and has no holes. We love this bull’s dam. She is huge bodied, stout and very good looking. Clay and Bailey Reid chose her from our 2011 Female Sale, and she has made a beautiful cow… one of the best we’ve sold!

LOT 468 – There are thousands of Monopoly sons out there, but there are not many like this one. He was really hairy this winter and still looks great without it! This will be one of the better Monopoly sons to sell anywhere in the country. He’s huge bellied, has plenty of muscle and moves great. His dam is one of Charlie Parker’s best producing cows ever.
LOT 469 – This is a good, cool, Hereford-marked bull sired by Two Tone, the sire of this year’s COC Grand Steer at Houston. This bull is marked plenty good and is good enough to go to anyone who is raising champion caliber Herefords. This bull had real good hair this past winter, and he has plenty of muscle to raise slick steers as well. He was a little green at photo time, but you will like this one. Bred by Mike and Tom Barnes, who raised the COC Grand Steer at the 2014 Oklahoma Youth Expo.

He is out of one cool looking Right On daughter—an ET out of a super producing cow that we flushed a lot. This cow family was good to this program and generated lots of return. This is one of the first sons of our Deadliest Catch to be offered. Deadliest Catch is a Carpe Diem out of a good Barber Ranch Channing daughter.

His dam was a $5,500 heifer in one of our first female sales to Kelley Munson. She raised a Shotgun daughter that sold in our sale at $14,000. Kelly sold this Dakota daughter as a 10-year-old for $12,000. She was stout and made him a lot of money.

Maturity and Perseverance Of all that I have learned, or have noticed in the past years, one or two certain things stick out in my mind. The trend of offering large groups of bred heifers, in club calf female sales, has become one of tradition. As sellers of this age of cattle, raised in this environment, we let go of many bred heifers that prove to be worth much more than their sale price. I suspect this reoccurring happening lends itself to maturity and the ability of a buyer to recognize the difference in a young female vs. a more mature one. Year after year, I see younger, less developed cattle sell way under sale average and turn around to be some of the best in the business. The ability to evaluate cattle skeletally, based on age and condition, and not compare them to more mature livestock is important. This is not easy to do, and the people who are really good at it have been doing it a long time. The other thing that I have learned over time is the ability of a buyer to stick with it and persevere through the trials of proving the worth of seedstock. Cattle are not like other livestock in regards to gestation period—it just takes more time for all of this to happen. It can take several years for a cow to prove herself. I have seen people enter this business, buy a great cow and get discouraged only after one year. Many times in these situations, the cow usually ends up proving herself, only after the buyer has traded her off. I am proud to still be involved with the Cream of the Crop after fourteen years. It has been fun to see this operation grow and these cow families develop. For as much as things have changed, the goal here has stayed the same, and this family is as good an example as any for perseverance and truly believing in what you are producing. Take the time to visit the offering…it will be a rewarding experience and one that you will enjoy. Over the years, honesty in photography has been a big subject. Photography is an artwork to me. I do not possess the desire to make every image perfect, and the imperfections in the photo tell as much of a story as the perfect images do. If we learn to study the structure and dimension of an animal, the need for an “always appealing image” will go away. The photos that grace these pages are “as is.” April is the end of winter in this country, and these cattle are just starting to heal from the environment. To me, these pictures simply tell a story. We were fortunate this year to have record rainfall and green grass in the picture pen. Study these cattle closely. Kris taught me about structure and type in cattle as much as anyone. The hip, the balance and the dimension of these genetics are second to none, and they are a result of many years of breeding.
