FIRE MACHINES ideas before architecture Machines are the only human invention that can fight such a force as pure and ferocious as the ancient force of fire. Fire machines of land, air, ground are analyzed in depth to understand how modern day housing can be better designed for easy access of these machines. The dimensions and range of how far each of these machines can project water are recorded and visualized in each of these drawings. These ideas are then retained in the consequent design process.

THE BODY BOOK from the human experience The body book considers the 5 senses of the human body: sight, smell, hearing, touch and taste. Each of these elements are distorted in a way that it can no longer be recognised at a first glance. Images are manipulated digitally by adjusting contrast, highlight and adjusting a monochrome background to emphasize on each of these body parts. A house must consider measurements of its residence, and the body book is a guide for that.

COLLAGED SITE blackened ground The site treatment begins with the careful construction of 3 collages, each of them employ different techniques to play with repetition, lines and colours. The images are manipulated and overlayed onto the actual site, Grizzly Peak, to seek spaces for unexpected locations to locate each of the dwellings. The collages are then cut and transformed into 3D models to create unexpected spaces for the 9 tetonic models, as a preface for the design of the fire house.

9 SITUATIONS the tectonic body Abstract forms of the with the 3D collage are analyzed and broken down into 9 different situations. Each of the models represent a unique situation within a house: skylight, elevator, window, pool, windows, entry etc. The unconventional forms creates unexpected spaces that challenge the norms of how these spaces are usually designed. These spaces seek to reveal themselves in the form of the paper models under sunlight.

A FIRE HOUSE revolution in form The dwelling block is a summary of extracted information from the collage, and ultimately condensed into the form of a house located on Grizzly Peak. A new form of living is born within this house. The house defies common ideas of housing and prioritizes the ability for residents to escape in the case of fire. All of its rooms are located far from the core, so that in the instance of a large fire, the rooms will not catch fire one by one. Each room is puncutated by a fire pole that reaches the ground so there are multiple direct ciruclation routes to escape. Both a helicopter pad and a swimming pool are situated at the top of the house to give way for fire fighting helicopters to land. The swimming pool is strategically placed at the top so that it can use the power of gravity to extinguish fires below. There are 2 ways of entry for the house. The top entrance from the cliff is for the private owners of the house. The secondary entrance is located at the bottom and mainly serves as a public entrance for friends and family. The two circulation routes are joined together by a play space + dinner area plateform.
