MACNEILBIKESTWOTHOUSANDANDSIX. LIVING THE DREAM I started riding in the summer of 1982, and instantly fell in love with it. I knew almost from the beginning that I wanted to be a pro rider. I didn’t actually know it would happen until several years later, but I definitely couldn’t think of a better way to live my life. So I made it happen. I turned pro in 1989 and have been riding my bike all over the world, and living my dream ever since. People are always telling me how lucky I am for being able to live my dream. Well I have news for all of them. I’m even luckier than they think, because for the past five years I’ve been living my second dream – owning a company in the best sport in the world. I put that same passion into MacNeil that I put into my riding. When I sponsor a rider I get the same feeling that I used to get when I got myself a new sponsor. When people come up to me and tell me how much they like their MacNeil, it feels as good as when a fan asks for an autograph. I get as excited to drop a new product the same way I did to drop a new trick. It took me seven years to turn pro, then it took me a few more years to get comfortable with it and really make my mark. I’ve been in business for five years, and it makes me wonder if I have any double-back flips or 540-whips in store for MacNeil.

If you read Jay’s blurb at the beginning, you’ll know how ‘lucky’ he feels he’s been. I hate to argue, but the way I see it, luck has little to nothing to do with living your dreams. From the time I was 17 people have let me know how lucky I was to be traveling around with my friends riding my bike. Lucky? I guess they didn?t see me looking for a new job every other month because my bosses wouldn’t give me the time off to go to comps. Guess they overlooked the fact that I was living with 9 dudes in a warehouse? Is that luck? Not the way I see it. I think that’s doing whatever it takes to make dreams happen. Lately, I’ve been hearing how lucky we are to do what we love while working with our friends. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate that I love my job while some people hate theirs. Are the people that hate their jobs unlucky? Did they just not go after their dreams – or maybe they didn’t dream at all. We made this happen.

Josh Nendza

You may be wondering how this fits as an intro to the parts section of this catalog? Well it does? Kinda. There is no luck involved in making the bike parts we do; people don’t see all the effort that goes into developing entirely new ideas. We’re making it happen one part at a time. I always wanted to be the guy who gets to work with a team like ours, making all of our ideas become reality for them – and you to ride. - Darcy

GARY RY Y RIDING RIDI HIS SF FRAME E AT THE RED BULL ELEVATION COMP.

THE YOUNG FRAME. “When Jay said he was giving me his bike, I was in disbelief. I liked his bike, but I wanted to make it less of a vert frame and more of a street frame. The first step was to shorten the back end and I wanted to make the frame lighter. Lastly, I wanted to make the gyro tabs removable. A badda bing a badda boom here is the Young frame. I hope you like it as much as I do.” - Gary

MacNeil 2006 Catalog.indd 10-11

If you think nice guys finish last – it’s true. When there’s riding to be done, Gary’s always the last one to get off his bike. The fact that his prototype has held up to his intense riding schedule is a true testament to it’s quality and design.

JOHN HEATON SECONDS BEFORE SPLITTING HIS HAND OPEN FOR THE SECOND TIME IN A WEEK.

THE HEATON II FRAME. “I wanted to bring this frame up to date – keep it light, strong and functional. It’s still small and easy to throw around like the original, but this one has evolved to keep up with today’s style of riding. I’m really happy with how it came out, and all the changes we’ve made make this bike perfect for the all around rider.” - John

FRONT HUB. CASSETTE HUB. By making our own hub shell molds, all of the normal restrictions were gone, allowing us to make exactly what we’ve always wanted. Not only did we increase the width of the flanges, but we pushed the flanges out to the edges of the hubs, which increases the strength of a 36 spoke wheel significantly. The slotted flanges are designed to protect the spokes from grinds by making them sit flush into the hub body. The thicker flanges won’t bend, so you can think about the ledge in front of you instead of your hubs.

MacNeil 2006 Catalog.indd 18-19

Features · 2x high-quality bearings. · Axle is available as 14mm hollow or 3/8” solid · Large diameter body is light yet super strong · Slotted for 3-cross lacing · Available only in 36 hole · weight: 290g (0.63 lbs) · color: black

SEATS AND POSTS. The MacNeil seat and seatpost, using patented Pivotal Technology has done away with the heavy rails and the bulky hardware of traditional seats. Instead the seat sits on its plastic base directly on top of the post, held together by a single bolt that’s accessed through the patch on the top of the seat. This allows for easy adjustment of the seat angle. One quick turn and you’re done. It’s the lightest, strongest, simplest design out there. Dig BMX Magazine: “This is one of those designs that’s so simple and makes perfect sense”

Features: · 3 seat choices (look for at least two new shapes and up to 6 new models for Spring ‘06) · no rails to bend or twist · no ugly-heavy guts showing · weight of seat and post is just over a pound · The seatpost is an ultra-light 3D-forged 6061 alloy post, with internal oval construction for strength · 5 post O.D.’s: 25.4mm, 27.0mm, 27.2mm, 30.9mm and 31.6mm The O.G. the size of a traditional seat with a short, out of the way nose. The Capital like a traditional seat, with a bit more cushion and kevlar back section

RideUK Magazine: “Pure Genius” The S.L.(Super Light)our slimmest design. Clean and light. colors: black (with a bunch of new models and styles in the works)
