Hi everyone!! My name is Max Garcia, your key club president. Last June, we held the June DCM at Clark High School, key clubbers from all over the city attended! It featured all the divisions in Las Vegas and we got to pie members in the face!! We also helped setup the Kiwanis fireworks booth just in time for fourth of July. Also, congratulations to Chelsea Faith for being nominated as Clark's Member of the Month. That's all for June, but we have several events coming up so keep an eye out for those! Continue to have a great summer!!
Max Garcia

On June 28th, I attended Key Club’s ICON to volunteer for the event. It was fascinating to walk around the convention and see all different types of people involved in the community. There were Kiwanis members holding their home country’s flag proudly, as I saw with a group from Taiwan excitedly taking photo ops with a large banner displaying their team. From time to time, we were stopped to make conversation with the friendly attendees who were enthusiastic and grateful for our help. Inside the convention, there were booths for information, enamel pins, t-shirts, and more fun things to be explored. Our job was to each hold a flag, which symbolized the diversity in Kiwanis Key Club. In total, there were about 80 different flags held as the volunteers walked down the aisles. Family and friends of the community were gathered in the ballroom, and it was a great moment to experience because it was the embodiment of how large and widespread the impact of Key Club has made on all walks of life. – Lyann Gao

Volunteering at Kiwanis International Convention has been a really great experience. As Key Club volunteers, we got to participate in the opening ceremony of the convention. Along with Aktion Club members, we held up flags of different nations that had Kiwanis clubs and walked down the aisles of the audience. We all eventually made our way in front of the stage while Kiwanis ICON attendees cheered us on then sang the national anthem. This event was exciting because from the start, we were surrounded by not just high school Key Club members, but also dedicated Kiwanians who had passions for serving others. I got to have conversations with a few, some from our home district of CNH, some from across the country, and some from even across the world! This volunteer opportunity was truly unlike any other, and I'm glad that I was able to participate in it. – Katrina Orevillo Kiwanis ICON was a unique event that I attended in the Bally’s hotel. Compared to the Kiwanis DCON that I attended two years ago, Kiwanis ICON was very different. At Kiwanis DCON in 2016, we helped sell merchandise and helped out the Kiwanis with whatever they needed. However, at Kiwanis ICON, we helped out during the Parade of Nations. At Kiwanis ICON, there were people in Kiwanis from all over the world, and they were all eager to see their nation represented. Those of us who volunteered would then take part in the parade, each holding the flag of one of the nations. We paraded into a huge room, where hundreds of Kiwanians from across the world sat, as we walked to the front of the room and stood there during the national anthem. This event was definitely a unique experience and I’d look forward to attending it again! – Matthew Wong

Kiwanis fireworks booth The Kiwanis Fireworks Booth is my favorite Key Club event, as it is where I had my Key Club moment. Although the details of the event have changed over the years, the event itself has stayed the same. On the Kiwanis Fireworks Booth of my sophomore year, I met many different Key Clubbers as well as all of the LTGs in Las Vegas. Despite there being less people being able to volunteer for shifts, working together to make sales, advertise, and helping the Kiwanis, all for a good cause has always been a core part of the Kiwanis Fireworks Booth. This year, I volunteered for all of the shifts, which consisted of a set-up day as well as three days of selling at the booth. We were able to do everything ourselves, from organizing and restocking the fireworks, to making sales to customers, as well as managing the cash register, the a/c, and even occasionally the generator. Although volunteering for fourteen hours in a day is undoubtedly exhausting, seeing the smiles we caused from the Kiwanians, the customers, and even the smiles that all the volunteers had made me eager to come back to volunteer the next day. Even though less and less people have been able to attend the Kiwanis Fireworks Booth over the years, it remains as one of the few events I look forward to each year, and I’d definitely recommend others to attend it. – Matthew Wong

This year, the annual Kiwanis Fireworks Booth fundraiser occurred from July 2nd to July 4th, and I picked up a 4-10 shift for all three of those days. Located on the corner of Durango and Windmill, the Las Vegas Strip Kiwanis Club hosts this fundraiser in order to raise funds for scholarships exclusively for Key Club members (which, if any of you seniors are reading this, should apply for, hint hint). With this being my first year volunteering at the booth, I had very little idea what to expect. Luckily, Jordan and Matthew Wong were volunteering again this year, and they are experts at this. Thanks to their help, it was extremely easy to get the hang of the booth, from the bundles of fountains to sparklers and Piccolo Pete's. It was slow at times, sure, and there weren't any Key Clubbers from other schools this year, but the (sometimes long) periods of downtime were a great time to bond with some of Clark Key Club's most dedicated members. I'll let the pictures on Flickr speak for themselves, but in the end, volunteering at the Kiwanis Fireworks Booth was a great experience, and the Kiwanians were all extremely appreciative of our help. I wouldn't hesitate to come back next year. – Kevin Wong
Kiwanis fireworks booth was a BLAST! We got to hold up signs as well as sell items for the Fourth of July. I highly doing this next summer as it gives you a lot of hours and something to do during the summer! – Bethany Antero
