FROM THE PRESIDENT! FROM THE FROM THE
hello everyone, my name is Max Garcia, your president for the 2018-2019 term!! Last May, we had our very last volunteering event for Relay For Life. We sold out of our boba and donated the costs to the program. Also, a big congratulations to our Member of the Month for May, Ciara Mikaela [Ramos]. Overall, not much occurred in May due to heavy AP testing and other exams, however, our events are from over during the summer!
Best wishes,
Max Garcia

Relay for life is one of my favorite events and this year definitely did not disappoint! I loved spending the event with some of my best friends especially since we were supporting those who have battled cancer and got to hear survivor’s stories. The walk of silence and seeing how almost everyone has been impacted by cancer in some aspect of their life never fails to get me emotional and it’s truly beautiful how we are all there to support and care for one another. The event was also full of fun events, especially the Mr. and Mrs. Relay pageant and was just an overall fun time! I hope everyone that was able to attend had a great time thank you for coming to support such an amazing cause. – Cassandra Rockwell Relay for Life was a truly an experience to remember with it being my first! I had the chance to reach out and connect with my old friends who attend different high schools. Throughout the event my energy level was all over the place. I ended up feeling deadbeat tired, but the outcome was truly worth it. It started from running around to sitting on the bleachers watching the sunrise. Having this opportunity to volunteer at an event which supported a good cause is something I wouldn’t have second thoughts about. Key Club has really opened my heart to the endless possibilities that life can give. – Ciara Ramos

Relay for life This year’s Relay for Life was one I could never forget! It was my third one in a row, and contrary to previous years, the weather was super nice. It was so heartwarming to be able to see that many people come together and support such a great cause, especially when I know there are people in our home club that are deeply affected by cancer. I’m so proud of our club for raising so much money for American Cancer Society and for selling our boba out so quickly. In addition to raising money, I had such a great time watching all the extra festivities that were going on. It was so great seeing Mikeal and Bethany up there representing Clark for Mr. and Mrs. Relay! Relay is one of those events where you get the opportunity to meet up with friends from other schools, so it was also a great way to catch up with people or make new friends. In fact, since the Sierra Vista and Clark tents were near each other, there was a mini karaoke session that happened! I hope a lot of people had fun, even if they got pretty tired. In the end, we were all there to combat cancer, and I’m happy we got to have some fun along the way as well. I highly recommend this event if you plan to go for next year! – Katlyn Wong Relay for Life was a fun and lively event, one of the most exciting experiences in my freshman year. From the Mr./Ms. Relay contest to the 3 AM rave party, it was a well rounded event that had a variety of things to keep you up. If you haven't gone to Relay before, I would definitely recommend going. Those 12 hours of my life at Relay were a great time. – Edward Hsueh

This year was my first time attending Relay for Life. It was truly an unforgettable experience, meeting new people and reuniting with old ones. Everyone’s performance held a moving feeling. They were vulnerable and immersed to do what they love. On the small field held a sense of unity. It connected everyone walking their laps in remembrance for the cancer victims. The event ended off with everyone watching the sunrise fill up the sky as a another day for all of us live and love. – Christine Nguyen

May I say, this was one of the nights of my life I won’t forget. The day of relay starting in the morning, I was pumped up and ready to experience a 12 hour challenge although I didn’t get enough sleep the night before. I was later greeted by familiar faces from my club, clubs around the valley along with meeting new faces. I settled down all my stuff and started to explore what was around me on this football field. The weather is very nice, not too hot which is unexpected of Vegas but became very cold when morning was coming. I was able to play mini games with my friends like throwing a pillow around since
we didn’t have a ball, getting to the point where I went on my friend’s shoulders but came crashing down seconds later. I watched the performance done by students from different schools. One of my favorite performances would be Mr. and Ms. Relay as you saw different perspectives of what the opposite gender might be (GO BETHANY AND MIKEAL for your amazing outfits and personalities). Most of the night, I refer back to the bleachers as the tent was already taken over. I saw a beautiful view of the all the lights glimmering below me. It’s breathtaking to be out so late for a cause and being surrounded by people who made your night. Till next year~ – Feliza Cunanan Relay for Life is such an inspiring event, which makes it one of my favorites. The overnight event helps raise money for American Cancer Society and brings you closer to other key clubbers. My favorite parts are the silent walk and having downtime to be with my friends. I just love the sense of unity we all have to fight for a cure for cancer and the overwhelming support every key clubber has for each other. This event helps remind me that we are truly an ohana, in our region and division and especially in our home club. 10/10 recommend to go, even just once! – Cherry Rockwell 09
