Set in the 1960s in an English language school for foreigners, this tragicomic play is a humorous but ultimately moving account of several years in the lives of seven teachers. At the heart of the group is St John Quartermaine (Rowen Atkinson); kind, pleasant and agreeable, but utterly hopeless as a teacher. An almost permanent feature in the staff room he's always available to listen to the problems of his self-obsessed colleagues, but when a new principle is appointed, Quartermaine's future looks precarious. 7:45pm, Thu & Sat mats 2:30pm, £15-£37 – Theatre Royal Brighton 10 – 11 January The Trials of Harvey Matusow - Winner of the Fringe Review Outstanding Theatre Award, detailing the life of one of Cold War America's most notorious spies, 8pm, £8 – The Dukebox Theatre, Iron Duke 19 – 26 January Far Away and Seven Jewish Children – This Caryl Churchill double bill runs from 19th – 26th January 2013 Directed by Tamsin Fraser (Far Away) and Strat Mastoris (Seven Jewish Children) ‘Far Away’ is set in a nightmare world where people are at war with their neighbours and last month’s allies become today’s sworn enemies. But as the war escalates and animals, insects and elements are pitted against each other, we must question how much is real Caryl Churchill wrote ‘Seven Jewish Children’ as a response to the Israeli assault on Gaza in January 2009. psychology of the Israeli people - refugees from the Holocaust in Europe now building and defending a new state in Palestine. 7.45pm. INLA man and notoriously unstable one-man terrorist group Mad Padraic hears the news that his beloved cat, Wee Thomas, is poorly and heads straight back to the island he calls home. But when he arrives at the family home things are about to get very complicated indeed for the self-styled Lieutenant of Inishmore. Warning: this play contains explicit language, graphic scenes of violence, and scenes of a sexual nature, and is considered unsuitable for children under the age of 16 years. 7:45pm, £9 – Brighton Little Theatre
