Big North Scouting Report: Pascack Valley gets the top seed with 148 Power Points in the North 1, Group 4 bracket of the playoffs. This is a senior led team that has 24 seniors that kicked off the season with a big win over Montclair and its only loss to a public school was a two point loss to Ramapo late in the season. Team Defense is rated 3rd and Team Offense is rated 5th out of the 8 teams that are in this bracket. As with any High School playoff team, the Indians will look to their 3 senior captains in Wide Receiver Jack Madden, Linebacker Greg Collier and Running Back Rocco Swatek. This is a well balanced team that can does many things well. As the top seed they have the pressure and the expectations to get to the championship game and deliver a North 1, Group 4 Championship.

Big North Scouting Report: The only public school loss this season for Brain Dunn’s Knights was at the hands of the top seeded Indians of Pascack Valley 35-28. The Knights have a well balanced team on both sides of the ball. If you are to have some success you have to find a way to contain Junior Quarterback Jordan Fuller who is a tremendous athlete on the field who can beat you in many different ways. If you find a way to contain Fuller in some capacity, you will then have to deal with Junior Wide Receiver Kevin Martinez and Junior Running Back James Hrbek, who are now used to stepping up their game while teams try to deal with Fuller. The is an Old Tappan team that is Battle Tested and will be right in the mix of things in this bracket.

Big North Scouting Report: Demarest is lead by Junior Running Back Alex Wasserman who is currently New Jersey’s fifth leading rusher with 1,534 yards rushing and 21 touchdowns Demarest boasts the 3rd rated offense in the bracket with 291 points for offense. On Defense they are ranked 5th out of 8 teams with 148 points against. Head Coach Tony Mottola has a lot of football experience and the edge in this bracket may come from his strong coaching experience. With the teams in this bracket being so close, you have to look for an edge somewhere.

Super Essex Scouting Report: Junior Running Back sensation Craig Merkle is the first Nutley Running Back to break the 1,000 yard mark since the 2011 season. Merkle is a two way starter for the Raiders and is a powerhouse on both sides of the ball. Senior quarterback Rob Melillo is capable to taking the offensive attack to the air when teams try to contain Merkle. The Raiders are a strong defensive team led by Senior Defensive End Austin Brendel who puts pressure on opposing quarterbacks and is very strong against the run. The Raiders have a tough first round game against Paramus, but they have been tested throughout the season and are capable of making some noise in their bracket. Merkle will have to be a play maker on both sides of the ball for Nutley to advance to the next round of the bracket.

Scouting Report: You wind up making the payoffs as the 8th seed in the Bracket, then you find out that you have to face Pasack Valley in your first round game. The one constant is the Head Coach Bill Johnson is very familiar with the Indians. “We play Pascack Valley year in and year out” says Johnson “we both know what we do.” That will lead to execution and the Hornets are going to have to play a perfect game to be in this one. Senior quarterback Zach Mazalewski will have to bring his best along with his fellow captains in Anthony Mazalewski, Rayn McCabe and Dylan Atiieh. Junior Chris Armagno will look to lead the Running Game for the Hornets against the tough Pascack Valley defense in the battle of PVs.
