I love the holidays. It’s a joy when the tree
goes up in the middle of December and fills the living room with its fresh pine scent. We love a white Christmas, but I must admit that we would prefer that the snow come after the tree is up: If it snows, all the snow would melt on the rug! My wife, Elyse, enjoys decorating the tree with trinkets both new and old, and many tiny lights. I love to watch how she adorns the tree with care, making the tree more vibrant with each decoration. Afterward, she brings out the old birch crèche that we’ve had for almost 60 years. We acquired it back at the Covered Bridge Inn, which was just as lovely as it sounds, when we were first starting our family. As the crescendo of the holiday season builds, family arrives and our big kitchen becomes too small for all the activity. Being an old restaurateur, this is very important to me. I was involved in organizing large holiday parties for many years, so I understand the importance of creating great meals and a beautiful ambiance to highlight these good times of companionship. Nowadays, we have so many cooks in the family, that all I have to do is sit back and enjoy our get-togethers. Looking back, I think it was the hard times of the Depression that makes these days so sweet. Back then, things did not come so easily, so when this time of year rolls around, I like to focus on the good in people and the good times. One thing I’m particularly thankful for is your continued support over the last 30 years. In appreciation, we created our Holiday Tea and White Christmas blends to celebrate the season. We hope they become part of your holiday tradition! (As for me, I know that I will continue to start each morning with Japanese Sencha.) Season’s Greetings!

Mike’s Tea Ratings
Mike rates many of our teas on three attributes. A rating of 0 indicates the tea has none of that particular characteristic and a rating of 5 indicates that it is a primary characteristic.
Briskness refers to a tea’s ability to make your mouth pucker, also known as astringency. Body refers to whether or not a tea feels thick in the mouth, such as Assam, or light such as a white tea. Aroma refers to whether or not the tea has a pleasant smell, often the most prized part of tea.
