ENTRY SUBMISSION GUIDELINE CELEBRATING DIVERSITY
The Mizzou Passion Project is excited to announce its 1st Open Call to the 2015 Fall Photography Exhibition & Competition which will feature an exhibition of photographs that represent, celebrate and highlight the diversities of the University of Missouri - or the areas where discrimination still thrives. The MPP invites entries from students and faculty, whether or not they are professional photographers or just good with an iPhone. With prizes awarded for the best entry in each category, competition entries will also be physically displayed at a TBD location on campus, as well as on the organization’s website. A selection of the entries will also be showcased in the MPP portfolio. We want to see your story, what drives, motivates, and inspires your creative process. What does diversity mean to you? How diverse is the MU campus - or not? All photo-based printed images are welcome. There is no limitation to technique and context. All entries will be reviewed and judged on originality, creativity, composition, overall impact, theme representation and artistic merit. The winning entries will be judged by a seasoned jury of professional photographers, who will be invited to vote for their favorite in each theme-based category during the course of the competition. The overall winner will be awarded a $100 cash prize.
Key Dates: Opening Date: Monday 28th September, 2015 Entry deadline November 1, 2015, 11:59pm CST
Eligibility The MPP invites photographers with varying levels of experience. Experimental and mixed techniques are welcome. Photographers must be age 18 or older, and must be students or faculty members of the University of Missouri.
Themes The title of the competition and exhibition is 'Diversity in Pixels'. We are inviting entries under one or more of the following three themes: Diversity: we all wear many hats and have many identities in our lives – advocate, student, black, white, friend, community leader, gay, cisgender, transgender, supporter, party animal, Muslim, trailblazer, volunteer, genderqueer, partner, - the list is a long and diverse one. A photograph in this theme category will capture how you or others live and celebrate the many identities you have in your community or daily lives. Inclusion: Show us what aspects of our university community demonstrate inclusion - or don’t. Tell a story with pixels to inspire change with your photograph. Show aspects of your daily lives where people with different identities - whether sexual, racial, ethnic, gender, religious, political, economic intersect or don’t. Exclusion is an ever-present reality, venture in this realm to capture vivid instances of exclusion. Respect: Show aspects of our campus that highlight the Mizzou value of respect, or go ahead to show areas or incidents of disrespect and intolerance. Use vivid imagery to capture occurrences of discrimination and bias. We are interested in both the good, the bad and the downright ugly aspects of our university community.
Prizes Best Entry submission - $100 2nd place - online exhibition of best entry, entire portfolio display (online). 3rd place - online exhibition of best entry. People’s choice - determined by social media poll conducted during the competition. Prize awarded at the end of the exhibit. (email address required for online vote)

ABOUT THE MPP
hat started as a simple conversation between a handful of friends in December 2014, evolved into a creative advocacy project founded on a shared passion to put action to words. The Mizzou Passion Project (MPP) was launched to utilize all forms of visual arts as creative and cogent tools for social advocacy in a campus-based, social intervention campaign designed to promote the tenets of equality, tolerance and support for members of minority groups and the LGBTQ community i.e. Sexual and Gender Minority groups, based on the Mizzou core values of Respect, Responsibility, Discovery and Excellence; in a bid to dismantle all systemic isms and encourage tolerance on campus.
The Mizzou Passion Project is poised to utilize professional photography and other creative forms of visual art including but not limited to: painting, sculpture, printmaking, design, crafts, graffiti, video, film-making and architecture - to covey a powerful message of tolerance, kindness and equality. The project would especially celebrate invisible populations, intersectional interracial couples and friends, especially in our LGBTQ community, as well as self-identified gender non-conforming relationships amongst the Mizzou LGBTQ community, and other minoritized groups as a crucial focal-point for tolerance. The project also intends to celebrate members of faculty, leaders of student organizations and university staff who have demonstrated selfless and outstanding support in research, administration and practice towards supporting a safe environment for racial, gender and sexual minority groups, and for all of MU students and staff.
