Sweet Words

This is the 10th composition of His, written in 1949.

The version we’re

presenting tonight is arranged for chamber orchestra by M.L. Asani Pramote.

Da Ge

The composer Kunshen Ruan drew materials from the traditional tone of Weishan Yi People's Dage. With its characteristic sound A, G, and D as the core material, it formed the longitudinal harmony structure and horizontal lines of the whole song, which better maintained the original and authentic style of national music, and showed the local mountain flavor and the people's unrestrained personality. Kunshen Ruan's music expresses his deep feelings about the culture, life, and music of Yunnan ethnic minorities. This is also the deep connotation of Dage, which embodies people's life interest and vitality. Chao Phraya

Chao Phraya, composed by a famous Thai composer, Dnu Huntrakul.

The

music describes Chao Phraya River, the main river in Thailand that is part of the lives of Thai people since the beginning of our nation.

Dong Xiang

Composer Lin Zhu's national orchestral Dong Xiang describes the colorful life of the Dong people. It combines the characteristics of Traditional Dong music with contemporary composition technology, not only expressing the yearning for the Dong People's free life and the colorful spiritual world but also exploring the unity and balance of music between tradition and modern one.

Bua Khao

Bua Khao, is familiar to many of you as it was awarded “Song of Asia” by The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization or UNESCO in 1997. The music is composed by the lateThaicomposer, Thanpuying Puangroi Apaiwong as a soundtrack of a film, Old Flame.

The version being

performed tonight is arranged by Julian Khaw.

Guo Feng

Guo Feng represents the folk songs of various kingdoms in The Book of

Songs, which is the most popular part of The Book of Songs and reflects the social life of the working people. Guo Feng was composed by composer Jiping Zhao, who quoted the famous Chinese classical music Three Stanzas of Plum-blossoms as the main material and used it throughout the

movement. As the expansion of the central part, the main body of Three Stanzas of Plum-blossoms is completely presented and expanded, forming a single trilogy of the complete theme, which plays a role in pointing out the main idea. The composer draws on the traditional excellent culture, traces back to the splendid historical civilization of the Chinese nation, bases on the fertile soil of folk music integrates the essence of western music culture and creative skills, and tells the Chinese people's own story in a unique way and the language system of the Yanhuang mother tongue, thus achieving the vivid interpretation of the Chinese national spirit and the spirit of the times, and the dialogue with the pluralistic world culture. This is the creative spirit embodied in Guo Feng and Jiping Zhao's artistic spirit.
