Letter inserted in the register of burials. Clonhugh, Multyfarnham, Co Westmeath Telephone Multyfarnham 7 19th June ‘57 Dear Canon Slack – Ancestor worship. Please forgive me for bothering you. Cargins, in Ogulla Parish at Tulsk. Are there any records of any members of this family available for inspection, or any memorials? My neighbour Canon Mayne encouraged me – or at any rate failed to discourage me – to make myself a nuisance to you. The Westmeath Kellys are descended from a younger son of the Cargins branch, who came here in 1685; I had hitherto believed Cargins to have vanished centuries ago, but passing through Tulsk recently I saw it still standing & evidently occupied. I see a Daniel Kelly of Cargins mentioned in Lewis Topographical Dictionary, 1837, & I believe he had a son Daniel – who may have succeeded him. Yours sincerely Charles Harvey Kelly
