LOST IN LONDON Individual project, MArch Unit 12 Year 5, Bartlett Tutor: Jonathan Hill, Elizabeth Dow 06. 2021
<Lost in London> is an enigmatic book describing the lives of monsters in London. They struggle to adapt to city life with their own purpose – to free the ravens in the Tower of London. By telling the stories of the monsters’ characters and experiences, the book explores a non-anthropocentric city life that involves history, mythology, legend and literature in London, interweaving the real with the unreal, the history with the future. "The monsters are planning a big project! They are going to free the ravens from the Tower of London. At night the twins carry the sand and gravel to the top of the Primrose Hill. Over the centuries they have tried countless times to enter the Tower of London, and each time they have failed. This time they wanted to make Primrose Hill higher and higher so that Little Peng could glide silently on the wind to the Tower of London five kilometres away. They had learnt from the Great Fire of London: Once the little Peng arrives, it would first set the Beefeater's Lodgings on fire. The other monsters then take advantage of the confusion to free the ravens. Of course, it doesn't work. For Primrose Hill has not grown one centimetre since the beefeater discovered their plan. For hundreds of years, the beefeaters have sneaked the sand and gravel back into the Thames at the daytime. We all need the ravens." Link to full work: https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/565104980
OPEN THE MONSTER'S EYE Resurrection of Peng
Individual project, MArch Unit 12 Year 4, Bartlett Tutor: Jonathan Hill, Elizabeth Dow 06. 2020
The design envisions architecture as a giant bird being sensitive to nature. It conveys the poetry of winds through the language of a poet who lives in its body.
The project's ambition is to bring poetry in a bigger picture: not only test the fantasy narrative through literature but also express the poetry in practice, including material selection, construction process, programmatic organization and building delivery.
