May is Physical and Mental Fitness Month at the Center for Health & Wellbeing!

Want to be less stressed and more awake when at home? More productive at work? Or more engaged when spending time with family and friends? We know that exercise and good nutrition are the building blocks of a strong body, but did you know that they are also critical to the strength of our minds? So, don your sneakers and put on your thinking caps this May and you’re sure to have a sharper mind and stronger body.

Did You Know?

Exercise increases energy levels and serotonin in the brain, which can lead to improved mental clarity. Just 30 minutes of moderate exercise five times a week is enough to reap those benefits. And because your body needs time to recover from exercise, you’re also more likely to sleep better with a regular commitment to fitness.

Physical and Mental Fitness Tip

Nourish brain and body! Seafood like wild salmon, nuts like walnuts, seeds like flaxseed and olive oil are all high in Omega-3 fatty acids and carry a myriad of health benefits, from helping your body fight heart disease to protecting against Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Some researchers have even found that cultures that eat foods with high levels of Omega-3s have lower levels of depression.
