Mindful Moments with CFCArts

Cooking with Collette: Quick Healthy Dinners

Join Central Florida Community Arts Teaching Artist Garin Jones for this unique workshop grounded in mindful moments and expression. This virtual program features a blend of drama and meditation exercises that will encourage you to engage with theater in meaningful ways. You’ll begin by discussing and performing scripts, then explore a guided meditation related to the material.

Do you finish your workday and have no clue what’s for dinner? Too busy to cook but desperate to eat “clean”? Between work, school or the gym...who has the time to cook? In this program, Chef Collette Haw prepares three 30-minute meals that are sure to please your family and save you the time you need and deserve. Chef Collette will teach you how to prepare Blackened Shrimp Tacos with Cabbage Slaw and Avocado Crema, Whole Wheat Fettucine with Cashew Basil Pesto, Zucchini and Ground Turkey and Pork Tenderloin with Couscous and Blistered Tomato Pan Sauce.

Not all fitness centers are created equal. Are you aware there is a medical accreditation program that gyms can earn once specific standards and guidelines are met? Did you know that those who earn accreditation are considered medically certified fitness facilities? Join David Flench, President and CEO of the Medical Fitness Association as he answers your questions and discusses the difference between a medically certified fitness facility from a medically integrated center, including how to locate a medically certified fitness facility near you.

Flexing Your Mental Muscles, Longevity and Brain Function

In this program, Laura VonMutius, Education Manager of the Audubon Center for Birds of Prey, shares how growing bird-friendly plants will attract and protect the birds you love while making your space beautiful, easy to care for, and better for the environment.

The mental decline that sometimes can accompany aging, stressful times, anxiety or depression can often be prevented with mental exercises, changes in routine, lifestyle modifications and improved ways of managing stress. Join Licensed Mental Health Counselor Alison Issen to explore current research and gain the tools that may help improve your long-term abilities in memory and learning.

Set it and Forget it Hydroponics!

Food as Medicine – The Impact of Dietary Fat on Brain Function

Are you interested in growing your own food without the strenuous work of digging into the dirt? Do you want to reduce the cost of your groceries? If so, try your hand at Hydroponics, a simple and bountiful way to produce your own fruits and veggies without the extra hassle of gardening. In this program, Hannah Wooten, IFAS Extension Agent of Commercial Horticulture, shares the science that will lead to your “set it and forget it” hydroponics success indoors year-round, or in the outdoors during your local growing season. Sustainability at Home: Creating an Eco-Home

“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food” isn’t just a quote from ancient Greek philosopher Hippocrates, it’s a framework to healthy and healing eating that’s more relevant today than ever. Join Chef Collette Haw from Nourish Coffee Bar + Kitchen and AdventHealth’s Dr. Nathalie Dauphin McKenzie to learn more about the impact of dietary fat on brain function. In this program, Chef Collette will demonstrate how to make Tamari Glazed Salmon with Edamame, Sunflower and Cabbage Slaw; Toasted Brown Rice with Mushrooms, Lemon Thyme Vinaigrette; and Avocado Dark Chocolate Mousse with Black Berries and Hazelnuts. Bone Health, All Stages of Care Join us for an interactive discussion on bone health, brought to you by our experts at AdventHealth and Rothman Orthopaedics. During this program, you’ll learn how to maintain proper bone health, when surgery might be an option, and the benefits of physical therapy for joint pain and recovery. Hear from our panel of experts who will care for you at various stages of your journey, including a primary care physician, joint-replacement surgeon, and physical therapist. This program is presented by AdventHealth.

Join local horticulturalist and Fleet Farming Program Manager Caroline Chomanics in this program intended for community members to learn the basics of creating the ultimate eco-home to reduce energy costs, conserve water, create closed loop systems and more.

Walkability and Beyond: The Right Environment for Active Aging

Active Aging for Health, Happiness, Energy and Fun

Join Dr. Christy Phillips, research assistant professor in the Clemson University Department of Psychology and Institute for Engaged Aging, to learn more about microand macro-level features of a “Built Environment” that influences healthy aging. Dr. Phillips will discuss housing, pedestrian environments, transportation, and land-use planning that can also influence our health behaviors, our ability to remain engaged and connect with others, and the ease with which we adapt to agerelated changes. Nutrition and Optimal Metabolism

To better understand the complexities regarding nutrition and optimal metabolism, join Registered Dietitian and Culinary Medicine Specialist Allison Harrell for this “Digital Dinner Party” during which she’ll share the many factors that affect optimal metabolism, including specific nutrients to support your overall health and metabolism. Harrell will also demonstrate how to make metabolism supportive dishes for you or friends and family. These featured recipes include Seedy Brown Rice, Quick Lentil and Kale Sauté, Seed Crusted Chicken, and an Avocado and Citrus Salad.

We all know that we should “be more active,” but why is it particularly important for us as we get older? What are the risks if we don’t stay active and what are the specific benefits? In a time of uncertainty, busy lives, family demands, caregiving...how do we fit in self-care and be active in ways that bring us more fun, health and happiness? This session with Licensed Mental Health Counselor Jill Hamilton Buss will offer specific, evidence-based strategies to help you get and keep moving – and have more fun.
