Last year‘s bestseller

Welcome to did deutsch-institut

…the idea to study German and to visit the country During the summer of 2006 it was very easy to experience Ger many and to see the country! Every day football matches from 12 different German cities were broadcasted on television. The game locations, presented in the media every day, quickly developed a special attraction, also for our students. And even those who were not football enthusiasts in particular, went on a trip through Germany on the weekends, because there is much to see: from the Hamburg harbor in the very north to the Cologne cathedral in the west. Every city has world famous attractions and a special charm. Besides other cities especially Munich and Frankfurt as well as the German capital Berlin have been our participants’ favorite places. The whole team of did deutsch-institut was enthusiastic about the idea to combine studying with traveling: Learn German – Discover Germany has always been our motto. Having invested a lot of effort to coordinate our course structures, syllabuses and work schedules even more thoroughly, we now offer our adult participants the possibility to spend their language stay not only in one but in two, three or four different course locations: in Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg or Munich. It has never been easier to study the German language without loosing time and information while experiencing different German cities, regions and landscapes at the same time. With us students have the possibility to repeat the summer 2006 all through the year 2014.

Teacher Training

This program was conceived for foreign students who want to study one or two semesters in Germany and would like to become acquainted with life in the German higher education system. Our partner schools Euro Business College (EBC) and International School of Management (ISM) are among the best and most renowned business schools in the country.

This program enables participants, who would like to study at a German institution of higher learning, to receive a guarantee of admission before arriving in Germany and beginning a German language course. In addition to comprehensive advising with regards to choosing subject areas, the placement program offers maximal security while preparing to study in Germany.

The Internship Program is the right choice for all students who plan to combine a language stay with practical training afterwards. Depending on the participants’ expectations as well as their pre-knowledge of the German language, we will always try our best to find a practical training position that is, as far as possible, related to their personal professional experience.

Your client is a teacher of German? Then we‘ve got something in common: German is part of our life! This course gives the participant the chance to experience German instruction from the students‘ point of view. By being an auditor, your client will gain valuable insight and suggestions for his / her own curriculum back home as he analyzes the course together with our teachers.

In contrast to the Residence Courses in which participants live together in one residence, participants who choose this type of course will be housed with German families. This way, students not only get to know the German way of life, but also have the chance to practice what they have learned in class. And fun is not cut too short: students have plenty of time to see their friends in class and during the free-time activities.

Group Stay Program (educational tours) German teachers from different countries are planning stays in Germany from 3 days to 3 weeks for their students with the aim to experience German as a living language. These students are usually accommodated in German families for real integration into everyday life. Tuition and a sightseeing program will be arranged according to the teachers’ requests. The number of students can range from 10 to 50, even more on request.

Quality and service guaranteed The quality standards of our three year-round schools in Berlin, Frankfurt and Munich are controlled regularly and for many years by EAQUALS – the European Association for Quality Language Services. Thus we make sure that all of our schools meet the highest European quality standard in modern language instruction. Every three years, members of EAQUALS have to undergo a strict inspection by independent experts. As three did year-round schools – the institutes in Berlin, Frankfurt and Mu nich – are EAQUALS-certified, our students can rest assured to find highly qualified teachers, an effective as well as interesting instruction, and a course structure with a systematic, clearly defined curriculum. The only thing our clients will have to guarantee is to study hard and enthusiastically. Our greatest strength is focusing on the basics – on teaching the German language! Because unlike many other providers of German courses, we do not want to waste energy and time with other activities – all of our daily energy and attention we devote to you and your clients’ desire for learning the language and to get to know our country and culture. Being 44 years in the business, we gained plenty of experience and today you can profit from our know-how. With more than 8,000 students a year, being acknowledged by the German Language Society and being member of EAQUALS, did deutsch-institut is one of the largest providers of German as a Foreign Language worldwide.

All the teachers at did deutsch-institut hold university degrees, are native speakers, and are specially trained in teaching German as a Foreign Language. Many of them also studied or worked abroad and for this reason they have a great deal of experience cooperating with people from different cultural backgrounds. And although German is the only language spoken in classroom – it may be good to know that many teachers speak several languages in order to gladly help participants out in another language if they have any problems. Then, however, they always immediately switch back to the German language. The classroom is oriented towards an objective and the teacher is always focusing on a specific topic. Depending on what should be done in class, students work on their own or in a small group. They use authentic texts of current interest and modern textbooks. Furthermore, a variety of learning stages with discussions, role play, dialogues as well as the individual and specific use of me dia will give a fresh impulse to studying the language. Our teachers also make frequent use of instructional films and DVDs. If students still have questions, they can visit our free Self-Study Center.

Activity program

Personal liability, accident and health insurance

The fees of our junior courses generally enclose an activity program. The number of activities included depends on the appropriate course type. However, in our four year-round schools in Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich travel expenses as well as entry fees for certain excursions have to be borne by the participants. Others are free of charge. Please note, that if tuition in our year-round institutes overlaps with the activity program offered at the same time, participants do not have the right to claim a replacement. Participation in the activity program is obligatory for all participants attending a junior course. Adult participants in our year-round institutes are free to decide whether to take part in the activity program or not.

A stay abroad always needs to be well prepared. As a necessary precaution the proof of a personal liability, accident and health insurance is therefore compulsory for all our participants. Only this way, risks can be calculated so that emergencies don’t become tragedies. All students have either to show proof of a valid insurance coverage for Germany when enrolling or have to take out an insurance policy through did deutsch-institut. Insurance rates 2014 are at 12,- € per week (from Sunday to Saturday). The insurance coverage is valid during the participant’s stay in Germany, as well as on possible visits to other EU countries (except the participant’s home country). On request we will gladly inform you, which other benefits are included.

Self-Study Center

Transfer

The Self-Study Center is a service, our four year-round schools in Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich offer to all clients free of charge. It is available Wednesday between 1:00 pm and 2:30 pm and, therefore, students of all courses and of all levels can take advantage of this study facility. Here one of our tutors will answer all the questions regarding the German language. The teacher is helping with homework assignments and will provide study materials such as grammar and listening exercises. In other words: everything a student might need for going into greater detail of a topic or grammatical problem again.

Participants under 18 years of age who have opted for a course with family accommodation will be picked up free of charge at the train station. Participants arriving by plane have the option to book an airport transfer in order to be picked up by either a member of the did team or the host. They will be attended to the host’s home by car or by public transport. Participants have to inform their hosts at least 3 days in advance about their arrival time, which should be between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm. There is a surcharge for transfers prior to 8:00 am and after 8:00 pm. The same applies for participants travelling as unaccompanied minors (UM). Please note that without notification about the arrival time, we can’t guarantee, that hosts will be at home.

Quality and service

We carry our company’s philosophy in our firm and trade name: did means deutsch in deutschland (German in Germany) and this is our motto since the establishing of the company in 1970. For now over 43 years we only focus on teaching German as a Foreign Language, and today more than ever we are convinced about the future prospects of our goal: The easiest way to study the German language is here with us in Germany! Because studying deutsch in deutschland means learning the language and getting to know our culture at the same time – our everyday and business life – exciting cities and many different types of countryside. To study German at did deutsch-institut also means discovering Germany.

Host family guidelines… Summer residence

Your clients will concentrate best on their language course by feeling completely comfortable – as if they were at home in Germany! Due to this fact we offer our students very different types of accommodation. According to their personal preferences, our participants may choose one of the following options: host family, private room (at host families!), youth hotel, hotel, apartment or residence accommodation. In respect to accommodation, quality also matters – by carefully selecting and regularly contacting our host families and hotels, we make sure that the accommodation facilities we offer meet the highest standard. Your clients can be assured that their hosts will give them a warm welcome when arriving in our country.

This way of accommodation is a long-time classic… for a good reason: If students decide for accommodation in a host family they will also learn German after class! Not necessarily the hosts, who live at a maximum travel time of 45 minutes to our schools, are a traditional family – a couple with kids. There are also single parents or single and elderly people who like to welcome our students. We always take care that participants with the same native language do not live in the same family. Generally participants share a double room. A single room can be booked at an extra charge. In general bathrooms are shared with the host family. Depending on the location, your clients can choose between accommodation with breakfast, half or full board.

Accommodation in a residence is the best option for all those participants who want to combine their language course with a great vacation experience and, at the same time, stay closely to their fellow students from all over the world. Our younger participants deciding for the residences in Höchst (8 to 14 years), Hintersee (12 to 16 years), Berlin, Frankfurt or Vienna (14 to 17 years) will be placed in guest houses that offer great learning facilities as well as various indoor and outdoor free time facilities. In Höchst participants stay in triple or four-bed rooms with bathroom facilities on each floor. In Berlin, Frankfurt, Hintersee and Vienna students will stay in triple/four-bed en suite rooms. Double rooms are available in Berlin, Frankfurt and Vienna.

Accommodation options

Welcome to did deutsch-institut

Accommodation options for all needs: The following information as well as the adjoining detailed descriptions will help you, to find an adequate accommodation option for all your clients according to their personal ways of living:

1

Host family

Except for the Residence Courses Höchst, Hintersee, Berlin, Frankfurt and Vienna, students 12 years and older can book family accommodation in all course locations. If students decide for accommodation in families, they will also learn German after class.

2

Private room | Studios and apartments

Here participants rent a single room in an apartment where the cohabitants could be a single person, a family or other students (Private Room option). In Berlin and Munich students of full age can rent a studio or apartment with separate kitchen.

3

Youth hotel | Hotel

Participants 18 years and older who want to live according to their own rhythm should opt for a youth hotel where they can enjoy their independence together with other students. For business clients we gladly book a hotel near the institute.

4

Summer residence

In the summer months we offer our younger participants the option to live and learn German in 5 exciting summer residences: Höchst, Hintersee, Frankfurt, Berlin and Vienna. This accommodation is a perfect option for those who wish to live with others.

The private room option is basically the same type of accommodation as host family, except that it’s cheaper & more independent. Participants provide for their meals and share the housework with their cohabitants, who can be married, single, students or professionals. It is also possible, that your participants will share the apartment with other students from did deutschinstitut. In this case we make sure, that there is always just one participant with the same native language sharing the apartment. All students will have a room for themselves and will only be sharing kitchen and bathroom. In Berlin and Munich participants of full age (18 years and older) may rent a studio or an apartment with en suite bathroom and separate kitchen.

Youth hotel | Hotel

We will gladly help participants who plan to stay in Germany a longer time (minimum: 12 weeks) to find an apartment or a private room in an apartment they will share with German students. Our local teams will provide all the students with hints how to find an apartment and also help to make arrangements. However, the participant has to sign the rental contract by himself or herself!

Which rules have to be respected?

Students should respect their host’s daily routine but will receive door keys to be independent. Participants will be liable for any loss. The time a student has to be home at night depends on the age and corresponds to the German law for the protection of the youth.

What kind of food will be served?

Students with full board get a packed lunch for midday and will be served a hot meal at night. Adult participants deciding for half-board should not expect to be served a hot meal in the evenings as traditionally people in Germany have cold dinner.

May friends be invited?

Most of the families don’t mind if their guests invite friends, others however do. We recommend our students to invite friends to spend free time with them at their host’s house only after having asked the families for permission beforehand.

Can the kitchen be used?

The private room option (shared apartment) includes the opportunity to use the kitchen. However, participants have to buy their own groceries. Host family accommodation generally does not include the right to use the kitchen unless the host agrees.

Participants who are looking forward to live according to their own rhythm while being in Germany should opt for accommodation in a youth hotel or a hotel. While the hotel op tion is especially recommendable for professionals and business people, participants deciding to stay in one of our partner youth hotels enjoy their independence with other did-participants. In our yearround locations for adults in Berlin, Frankfurt Hamburg and Munich, we offer all our participants respectively three categories of residence accommodation: Budget, Standard and Superior. Please find the prices on pages 31, 33 or 35 along with the information on Standard, Intensive and Premium Courses. However, students have to be at least 18 years old in order to choose this accommodation offer. If minor participants decide for this option, we need their parents’ permission.

Where can you do laundry?

Families do the washing for our young students (12 to 17 years). Adult participants have to take their clothes to a launderette or make an arrangement with their hosts to use the family’s washing machine for a small fee.

May participants use the internet?

The illegal downloading of games, music and films from the internet is forbidden in Germany and may lead to a fine of between 600 and 6,000 euro. In past years our host families have been held responsible for the wrongdoings of their guests. No automatic right exists that allows participants to use host family’s internet! We recommend that participants buy a Surfstick (wireless USB adapter) for approximately 20 to 25 euro per month.

This weather hut is a typical German invention. A little bit tawdry but functional nevertheless – inside you’ll find a string of stretched horsehair that reacts sensitively to changes of humidity. Thus, when the weather is nice, the lady in the summer dress appears. In case the weather is rainy, a little man with an umbrella leaves the weahter house.

How long it will take participants in order to reach particular language goals mainly depends on the level of language proficiency they have already reached before starting a course at did deutsch-institut. The chart shown above should enable you to more easily assess your customer’s language level. Our course levels are in accordance to the European Framework of Reference indicated from A1 to C2. Please read the descriptions of each le-

vel carefully and try to evaluate your customer’s knowledge at the moment, then define the level he or she wants to reach. Under each course description you can find the number of lessons and weeks that are necessary for finishing one particular level. Now you can calculate how long your customer will have to expect studying German. The time period given above relates to a Standard Course of 20 lessons per week.

The German Language Society (GfdS) Since 1990, did deutsch-institut is the only educational institution in Germany that cooperates with the German Language Society, GfdS. As a politically independent organization responsible for the preservation and linguistic research of German language the GfdS has a high reputation at home and abroad. Founded in 1947 and supported by the federal government, the GfdS is responsible for critically observing the German language and for giving recommendations for the linguistic usage in general based on scientific research. German Language Society, GfdS is also well-known for the nomination of the words of the year as well as for awarding every two years the so-called Medienpreis für Sprachkultur.

Certificates and diplomas At the end of each course level, starting at the B1 level, we offer our clients the possibility to proof their acqui red knowledge of the German language by taking the did deutsch-institut diploma exam. This nationally and internationally recognized language certificate is since 1990 under the professional supervision and control of the German Language Society. A diploma exam at the end of each course level is a necessary and helpful opportunity to evaluate the students’ learning progress. Students staying short-time as well as participants who attend course levels A1 or A2 will receive a certificate.

Our diplomas in cooperation with the GfdS

Preparation for ZD, ZOP, KDS and GDS

An important characteristic of quality when your clients study at did deutsch-institut is the possibility to take a diploma exam signed by the German Language Society, GfdS at the end of each course level (starting at the B1 level). These nationally and internationally acknowledged certificates are only offered by did deutsch-institut. Regularly every eight weeks, our students have the possibility to upgrade their German course – even free of charge: As long as the participant stays at least eight weeks at our institute and completes an entire course level, the examination fee is already included in the course fee. If the student stays for a shorter period and a diploma exam is offered during this time, the student will have to pay a fee of 100,- €.

Apart from preparing for the TestDaF and the DSH exams, foreign students can also intensively study towards passing all the exams given by the Goethe Institut. We like to help your customers any time preparing for the following exams and diplomas: Zertifikat Deutsch (ZD), Goethe-Zertifikate B2 and C1, Zentrale Oberstufenprüfung (ZOP) as well as Kleines Deutsches Sprachdiplom (KDS) or Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom (GDS). At did deutsch-institut we also help our clients with the registration for these exams at the respective institute.

Agents‘ Manual 2014

Our courses to prepare for university studies

Language exams: TestDaF or DSH?

It depends on the student’s level of German proficiency and on the intensity he or she intends to study the language how long it will take a foreign student to reach the language level that is required for studying at a German university. Beginners without any pre-knowledge should expect about 36 weeks of language instruction. Participants with some pre-knowledge will accomplish their goals in a shorter period of time. In any case, we want to suggest taking an Intensive or Premium Course for university preparation because these courses will guarantee a very intensive training of all language skills. As soon as the required language level has been reached successfully, the participants can register for a special TestDaF Preparation Course.

Apart from some very specialized courses of study that are offered in English or in another foreign language, the language spoken at almost all universities in Germany will certainly be German. Foreign applicants for university studies therefore will have to prove a sufficient knowledge of the language before being admitted to a university. That can be accomplished either by successfully passing the German Language Exam for University Admission (short: DSH) or the TestDaF exam – the Test German as a Foreign Language. While the DSH exam has to be taken at a particular university, our clients have the opportunity to take TestDaF in a familiar atmosphere: directly at one of our schools – as all our four institutes are licensed TestDaF exam centers.

TestDaF Preparation Courses

TestDaF Examination

The preparation for university studies at did deutsch-institut is more or less structured as follows: German language studies in an individual or group setting, TestDaF Preparation Course and TestDaF examination. Not before completing the B2 level participants will have reached the language proficiency necessary for successfully preparing and for registering for the TestDaF examination. Registration is only possible directly at the test location – in our year-round institutes – because our teaching staff has to evaluate the language level of the student. The preparation courses will be offered at our institutes in Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich up to six times every year – always four weeks before the test event takes place.

Unlike the DSH exam that is offered only twice a year and can be taken only directly at the university, applicants for university studies will have the opportunity to take the TestDaF exam on six different occasions every year. This will guarantee flexibility and will give our participants the opportunity to take the exam almost always directly after finishing the German language course. A further, very important advantage of the TestDaF exam is the fact that this language exam can be repeated as often as necessary. This is quite different to the DSH examination rules. Detailed information about our course fees for university preparation courses at our institutes as well as the exact dates for TestDaF exams are available under www.did.de.

Excursions with our activity guides are not a must. Some excursions, however, your students shouldn’t miss! On our walking tours through the historical center of our capital they will see places worthwhile discovering around school: the alternative cultural center Tacheles, the cultivated revue theatre Friedrich stadtpalast, the marvelous synagogue and the lively backyards of Hackescher Markt. Our activity guide will show our students the few remains of the Berlin Wall, will tell them the history of the Reichstag before the Federal German Parliament moved into the building in 1999, and will give them all the background information on the Potsdamer Platz and how it looked like before and immediately after World War II. If your customers visit Berlin, they got to see Potsdam, too! Be cause right outside the city of Berlin, 30 minutes away from our institute by public transport, they will find a UNESCO World Cul-

The school As only few other places in the capital, Oranienburger Straße is busy with life at night. Night owls and metropolitan adventurers stroll along the one kilometer stretch between Hackescher Markt and Friedrichstraße where you find more than 40 bars, cafés, trendy shops and galleries. Here – in a quiet street nearby – the Berlin did institute invites the students to study German. The institute is located on two floors, the classrooms are friendly and spacious. In the breaks our students can get coffee and soft drinks from vending machines in the cafeteria and use the internet. Or take a coke up to the roof terrace where they can also relax with their friends after class.

Looking at the Berlin Wall today you can hardly guess its former meaning. Years ago the colorfully painted concrete wall divided the two German states and, thus, almost all of the world. But since the Berlin Wall came down in 1989, Berlin has developed rapidly and became a true metropolis. The impressing government district with its new Reichstag Cupola, the many trendy boutiques, the lovely restored backyards in Prenzlauer Berg, the Holocaust Memorial, Potsdamer Platz and the Museum Island. And even at the Berlin Wall today you make friends from all over the world. Your customers can turn their language vacation with us into a unique and memorable experience by disco vering Berlin, this new exhilarating world-metropolis.

tural Heritage monument of special beauty. The former residence town of the Prussian kings will impress its visitors with castles, beautiful palaces and upper-class town houses. Next to Castle Sanssouci, the New Palais and the old town the students will also visit Castle Cecilienhof where in the summer of 1945 the so-called Potsdam Conference of the victorious allied powers took place. Our activity guide will show them the conference and study rooms of President Harry Truman, Prime Minister Winston Churchill and secretary general Josef Stalin – here German and world history can be felt live.

Courses and programs in Frankfurt

Although Frankfurt has by far less inhabitants than Munich or Berlin, the Main-metropolis is more international and cosmopolitan than any other German city. Maybe this has to do with the more than 50 million passengers frequenting Frankfurt airport every year or with the uncountable people visiting more than 40 international trade fairs? The reason could also be that many foreigners made Frankfurt their hometown: Frankfurt has 28% fellow citizens from abroad! These 170,000 newcomers are from 180 different countries. During summer it can be noticed how colorful this city is: During the Culture Parade groups from dif ferent ethnic backgrounds parade through the streets dancing in traditional costumes to ethnic music.

In and around Frankfurt there’s plenty to discover, because the Rhein-Main-metropolis and the neighboring cities Aschaffen burg, Darmstadt, Mainz and Wiesbaden form the fifth largest metropolitan area in Germany, the Rhein-Main-area. On the discovery tour to Mainz your students follow Roman history and get to know Johannes Gutenberg who invented the letterpress printing here in the 15th century. In the Wiesbaden casino they will learn where emperors, nobility and famous people like Fjo dor Dostojewski, Richard Wagner and Elvis Presley tried their luck and gambled away their fortune. In Frankfurt students will be shown the birthplace of Johann W. von Goethe and in the Städel museum the portrait of this famous writer can be seen. However, Frankfurt has more to offer than arts and culture. How about catching a view over the rooftops of Frankfurt from high above? Not suffering from vertigo? Let’s go: our activity guide

The school There’s no doubt about it: Sachsenhausen is Frankfurt’s nicest district. This isn’t surprising since it was hardly destroyed dur ing World War II and is located close to the river Main. Almost all the Frankfurt museums are lined up along the river banks in Sachsenhausen where you can also find vast sandy beaches with palm trees and beach volleyball courts during the summertime. The school is only 10 minutes away from the museum embank ment. In the friendly, modern classrooms learning the language will be easy. But attention: The breaks are not to be missed! The cafeteria is a modern internet café where cold and warm drinks are available. Students can go over the things they have learned with their friends while enjoying a cup of coffee.

Your customers like discoveries and surprises? Then they should come to Frankfurt – a city that will astonish them in every res pect. Because Frankfurt means contrasts, clichés and exaggera tions. Of course Frankfurt is rich and elegant, busy and hectic – it is the home of the German Stock Exchange and also the most important financial city in Germany! Skyscrapers everywhere, everything bright and shiny: America in the middle of Europe… Behind the glamorous skyline there are many theatres, museums, galleries and… clubs! Do your students want to dance all night in the world-famous Cocoon Club of DJ Sven Väth? Many clubbers come from Berlin and London for having fun here. Your students are better off! They are here already.

From here the exotic Palm Garden, the famous Frankfurt Opera House, the Opel car plant, Frankfurt airport and many other landmarks can be discovered. Your cli ents don’t have any plans for the weekend? They can join us on a day trip to Würzburg, to the Rhine valley or to Heidelberg! Our participants can discover exceptional historical and architectural sights in the Hamburg harbor area, for example in the Old Warehouse district – the world’s largest connected storehouse complex. In the so-called Speicherstadt coffee, tea, cocoa and exotic spices have been stored for more than 100 years behind thick red brick walls. In SPICY’s, a spice museum – samples of these viands are offered as tasters. Next door the Hamburg Dungeon is awaiting our participants’ visit. There they can go back in times into the dark era of the black plague and witch hunting. After this spooky dip into Hamburg’s history we will finish off the excursion with a relaxing tour of Hamburg harbor in a tourist barge – ship ahoy! On weekends we organize full-day excursions to different destinations. In summer for example our participants are traveling to the North Sea and have a refreshing stay on the beaches and

The Esplanade Building – a historic art-deco commercial building housing our Hamburg institute is located right in the heart of the city. From the 200 square meter roof terrace participants can enjoy a view on the Inner Alster – the large artificial innercity lake – and the Jungfernstieg with its world-famous hotels and department stores. All classrooms are well lit and spacious and are equipped with high quality furniture and state-of-theart communication media. Participants can access the internet via W-LAN throughout the premises. But above all other attractions it is the Hamburg harbor, which brings the unique charme to this cosmopolitan city and determines its rhythm of life. Europe’s third largest port is the most important trans-shipment center for numerous goods worldwide. Nowhere else in the world more amounts of coffee and carpets are reloaded. It is a special experience to watch the hectic scenery on the water with its fascinating contrasts. Battered fishing boats cruise in front of noble luxury liners, modern container carrier ships berth next to venerable sailing boats. Germany’s gate to the world, as Hamburg harbor is called, is a fascinating micro-cosmos – a world of its own – which we will explore regularly with our international participants.

The school

In Hamburg did deutsch-institut shares premises, especially terraces, cafeteria and PC rooms with its affiliated company – the Euro-Business-College (EBC). The EBC offers international study courses such as International Business Management, Tourism & Event Management, International Media Management or International Relations & Politics. Participants of did deutsch-institut attending a German language course in Hamburg have a unique opportunity to meet Germans of the same age group and learn about daily life in a German university. They have, for instance, the possibility to access the university library where they can lend technical literature.

Regardless of the fact that Hamburg is quite distant from the open sea, life in Germany’s second largest city is determined by water. Two large artificial inner-city lakes, the Inner Alster and the Outer Alster as well as numerous crossing canals form Hamburg’s inner city structure. Therefore the hanseatic metropolis has a maritime flair which is unique in Germany and a reputation for being the Venice of the North. Everywhere in the city it becomes obvious, how much people here enjoy life on the waterside – on the traditional fish-market where early risers and tourists taste the delicacies of the North Sea as well as in the bars on the banks of Elbe river, where in the evenings the party crowd settles in beach chairs for barbecues and picnics.

There are also excursions scheduled to the cities of Bremen and Lübeck, where exciting historic locations will be visited and the background of the Hanseatic League will be highlighted. Our participants will also get to know world-famous sights like the Reichstag building and Brandenburg Gate on weekend-trips to Berlin. History comes alive here and your participants will be impressed with sights such as the Berlin Wall. Visiting the German capital, however, also means discovering clubs, bars and shopping centers.

The first days in Munich will be exciting and exhausting: there‘s simply too much to do and to see in this town. Some visitors have no idea where to start the tour... It isn‘t easy considering the many art exhibitions, parties and cultural events. Your students can relax! Our activity guide has arranged a leisure time program featuring all the Munich highlights. Students will be taken on a discovery tour of the city: They will get high on cul ture in the Modern Pinakothek. After visiting the home arena of Munich’s world-famous football club – the FC Bayern München – they will finally discover the English Garden: Munich‘s Central Park, where they can go on a boat trip or do sports right in the heart of the city. However, not only in the city itself there‘s plenty to discover: It takes only an hour by car, 70 kilometers away, and our partici pants will be in the Bavarian Alps, joining the did-team for ski-

There are things in Munich that will never change. One of these things is the beer. Your customers will instantly notice that when they come to the Bavarian capital and as soon as they visit one of the famous breweries. At the Hofbräuhaus – certainly the world’s most famous pub – they will learn what it means to enjoy a beer in Munich, football fans from out of town try to build up their confidence while drinking beer before their team has to face the famous FC Bayern München football stars. And it’s exactly here that they find another typical Bavarian tradi tion: Lederhosen! Your students should treat themselves with a pair of these leather breeches: it is a purchase they will make only once and their fellow students will have a big laugh.

The school Admittedly – it has been some time... In the middle of the 18th century, the Karlsplatz was known as the busiest place in Europe. Even if no cars are crossing this place anymore, the Stachus – as the place is called by the locals – remained the busiest part of the city. The largest shopping street with uncountable bou tiques and large department stores starts here. Only a few min utes away and in direct vicinity of the central train station, did deutsch-institut Munich is located. On two floors your students will find everything that is necessary for studying a language in a friendly atmosphere: sunny classrooms, a modern media cen ter, a cozy cafeteria and a large roof terrace where they can re lax in the sun or play table tennis.

Oktoberfest and beer-gardens, Lederhosen and Bavarian brass music… no other city is a better example for German tradition and culture than the Bavarian capital. When your students arrive in Munich they will be sure: it is here where the German Gemütlichkeit was invented. And it certainly is something special to enjoy Bavarian Weißwurst and pretzels in the world-famous English Garden – if the weather is nice the Bavarian alps can even be seen in the distance. But not only here the third largest German city with its 1.3 million inhabitants will impress with its warm-heartedness and joy of life. With more than 10 universi ties and over 80,000 students it is definitely no problem to be a young and lively city.

ing! Our activity guide also offers trips to the Alps during the warmer seasons. In the summer, we would like to invite your students to come to the south – to the lake area Chiemsee, Am mersee and Starnberger See. If they still want to experience culture, they should come with us to Augsburg, Regensburg and Salzburg – the native town of Wolfgang A. Mozart. These places should not be missed! Especially, however, join the ex cursion to King Ludwig‘s fairy tale castle Neuschwanstein – it‘s Snowwhite‘s Disneyland castle – but the original!

The Standard Course is the ideal choice for people who want to improve their knowledge of German language and want to experience Germany at the same time. Our clients‘ intentions can be very different: Some of them are preparing for university studies in Germany or in their home countries, others want to increase their job opportunities. This Standard Course with 20 lessons per week meets all necessary curricular requirements, is preparing the participants to take the diploma exam (GfdS) we offer at the end of each course level, and it guarantees the most learning success. After the course, there will be plenty of time to discover Germany and the German way of life.

In order to master communicative situations in everyday life as well as in a professional and university environment, it is most important to develop communicative competence. Grammar, as well as vocabulary training, are both systematically and meaningfully integrated in teaching the main language proficiencies such as listening, reading, speaking, and writing. Phonetic exercises and discussions about intercultural misunderstandings are necessary for teaching communicative competence successfully. The Standard Course focuses on the practical use of the German language, which is a basic requirement for becoming familiar with Germany and its people.

Week 2 to 8

Since school ends at 12:15 pm the Standard Course can be recommended especially for all students who wish to discover Germany in the afternoons. The Standard Course is offered every week from Monday to Friday and classes begin at 9:00 am in the morning. Between 10:30 am and 10:45 am there is a break and students have plenty of time getting a refreshment in the cafeteria. Sometimes, mostly during the summer months, when the institute is at maximum capacity, we also offer instruction, usually scheduled in the mornings, on some afternoons between 1:00 pm and 6:00 pm. Thus, students finally will have the opportunity to sleep in late.

The concept of this course is to consolidate, intensify and supplement the students’ linguistic competence, skills and knowledge of the German language. With a total number of 24 lessons per week, it offers the opportunity for a very intensive communicative language training. The Intensive Course is ideal for participants who want to improve their German language skills quickly by studying in a concentrated way or who intend to take one of our diploma exams. If this is also the intention of your clients you should recommend the Intensive Course with 24 lessons per week rather than the less extensive Standard Course with only 20 lessons per week.

In comparison to the Standard Course, the Intensive Course offers a wide variety of possibilities to discuss topics of current political, cultural, social and scientific interest. The four language proficiencies, listening, reading, speaking as well as writing, are trained and enhanced through specifically selected course ma terials designed for this aim. For students who have to pass a language exam (like Zertifikat Deutsch or ZOP) or who want to apply for university studies in Germany (DSH, TestDaF), the Intensive Course rather than the Standard Course certainly is a solid and perfect basis for studying German language.

Wednesdays students will have the possibility making use of our Self-Study Center where teachers can help them with their homework assignments. Using the Self-Study Center is free of charge! The Premium Course is focusing on the participants‘ requests for additional grammar explanations and exercises. How does it work: dative, passive or the new German orthography? What are the German words for these parts of a computer or a car? How do I describe and explain a graph in German?… and what kind of language do I use in argumentation and discussion? No matter which topic our participants would like to intensify, repeat or comprehend: we are planning our weekly lessons accordingly! Thus, the Premium Course with its 28 lessons per week has both, a very dynamic atmosphere of group instruction and a maximum of flexibility.

Individual tuition can be booked independently as Business German or in addition to the three group courses Standard, Intensive and Premium. Although the number of additional one-to-one lessons can be arranged individually, participants must at least take four units per week when combining group courses with individual lessons. If students decide against group instruction and for studying exclusively with a teacher, they have to register for Business German or Business German Plus with at least 20 lessons of private tuition per week.

As a supplement to the group instruction we offer a curriculummodule for individual instruction. This combination is ideal for clients who want to profit from the dynamics of group instruction and want to study individual topics and improve the particular problems they have with the German language. Because regardless whether participants have decided for a Standard, an Intensive or a Premium Course… only individual instruction can guaranty that the teacher is focusing on the student’s specific needs and problems. The student will decide on how many additional individual units he / she will take, respectively how many units will fit into his / her weekly plan: from 2 to 20 lessons – or even more lessons per week.

Additional One-to-One Courses

If participants know exactly what they want to learn and if instruction should be matched precisely to the students needs, we recommend our Business German. A characteristic of this course is the focusing on teaching basic language structures as well as the goal oriented training of the subject matter the participant has defined. Regarding both – content and instruction schedule – it is flexible and allows to study intensively towards his personal language goals. Your client tells us, how many lessons he or she would like to take per day: 4 up to 12 lessons are possible. Business German with 12 lessons per day consists of 10 lessons individual tuition and an additional 90-minutes lunch (equivalent to 2 lessons) with a teacher.

On request, our participants of Standard, Intensive or Premium Courses in Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich are able to take additional One-to-One Courses. In the private classes, the teacher is able to adapt the course to the participant’s individual needs and the student is able to bring his / her own materials. The start and the duration of the individual tuition depends on the level and the specific needs of the participant and is also suitable for absolute beginners.

Business German Plus If your clients need German for their career and if they want to use their limited time in the best possible way for achieving the maximum result in a short and compact way, Business German Plus is the best choice. On 9 consecutive days (including 2 weekends), in 10 or 12 lessons each day, participants study German with their teacher in a flexible, individual and personal manner. The participant decides on topics such as banking, trade, tourism, insurance, business or intercultural training. The teacher will perfectly be prepared for your clients’ needs. Business German Plus with 12 lessons per day consists of 10 lessons tuition and a 90-minutes lunch (equivalent to 2 lessons) with a teacher.

The concept of University Summer Courses was designed jointly between teachers from did deutsch-institut and lecturers from the International School of Management (ISM). The four-week courses offer students from around the world the opportunity to develop an academic project in the area of culture and civilization under the direction of a lecturer while at the same time improving their existing German language skills. During these courses, socially, culturally and economically relevant topics are discussed applicable to and dependent upon the location chosen: Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg or Munich.

International School of Management With four university campuses, the International School of Management is one of the largest private business schools in Germany. In addition, ISM is highly respected for its excellent education and training: In the CHE University Ranking system (Centrum für Hochschulentwicklung, www.che-ranking.de), all four ISM bachelors degree programs received five stars – the highest ranking possible. According to this, ISM is among the most successful business schools in the country. Information about the International School of Management and its bachelors, masters and MBA programs can be found online at www.ism.de. General German instruction German instruction, consisting of 20 weekly lessons taught in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), is available from level A2 to level C2. Accordingly, participation in the University Summer Courses is available to participants at different language levels – as well, from those with elementary German knowledge to those with advanced abilities. What are ECTS credit points?

What are the requirements?

ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) is a scheme recognized throughout Europe for accumulating, transferring and crediting educational achievements. It is based upon the amount of work (i.e., lectures, seminars, independent study, etc.) a student must complete in order to fulfill the requirements of a certain course of study. Student effort is quantified in terms of credit points (credits).

The requirement for the issuance of an ECTS credit certificate at the completion of a University Summer Course is proof of regular course participation (at least 90% course attendance), as well as the successful completion of the language test and a positive evaluation on the project presentation.

How many ECTS credit points are awarded?

How does the transfer of ECTS credit points take place?

ECTS credits can be allocated either for an entire course of study or for an individual learning component, for instance, for the University Summer Courses developed cooperatively by the International School of Management (ISM) and did deutsch-institut. Upon successful course completion, 6 ECTS credit points are awarded. Note: The certificate costs extra!

The transfer and apportionment of ECTS credits is only possible if the institution of higher education from which the academic degree is to be conferred recognizes those credits awarded by the issuing institution (ISM). The course participants should ascertain the likelihood of transferring credits with their particular institution in advance.

Teaching materials are included in the course price. In addition, the placement test, as well as the course certificate and the final language assessment are also included in the price.

Each week, a total of four learning units are planned for seminars and workshops. Over the course of the four-week session, 16 lessons are scheduled for project work, in which participants grapple with socially, culturally or economically relevant questions relative to the themes in their particular course. In the seminars and workshops, which are led by lecturers of the International School of Management (ISM), small-sized study groups conceptualize and produce the project work that will ultimately be presented to the participating teachers and other fellow students at the end of the four-week session.

The project work is developed and produced within the weekly seminars and workshop sessions. The character of each project is defined by the main topic of its corresponding University Summer Course. These themes have a close relationship to the particular place where the University Summer Course is being held. With the determination for Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg or Munich, the focus of a course’s project is determined. The project theme is intimately connected to the issues currently relevant in the chosen city, and the thematically related cultural excursion program makes these topics come alive.

Language test and project presentation All University Summer Courses are concluded by the administration of a specially developed language test, as well as a presentation of the projects produced during the 4-week program. In addition to the participation certificate, the final language test, because it measures performance and achievement, is valuable evidence of the German language skills acquired. Equally significant is the presentation of the project work developed during seminars and workshops to lecturers and fellow students at the end of the course. Both are important assessments that demonstrate personal achievement during the course.

Business Certificates from the International School of Management are meant for foreign students who would like to spend a semester studying in Germany. For the International Business Certificate, instruction takes place in English, whereas for those who choose to receive the German Business Certificate, lectures will be in German. The Business Certificates are made up of four main subjects (e.g. international trade and distribution, global communications, etc.), as well as one specialization, which consists of two courses (for example, strategic public relations, etc.). Five ECTS credit points will be awarded per course, so that in total 30 ECTS credit points can be earned per semester.

EBC Guest Student Program At an Euro-Business-College, lectures are commonly held in German, which is why foreign students can only be accepted for a guest semester if they possess sufficient language proficiency in German (at least level B2). Depending upon the area of interest, potential seminars can be freely chosen from all of the current semester offerings, making sure that a total of six seminars are attended during the semester. At the end of the semester, an exam in three of the six attended courses must be taken and passed. When an exam is passed, 10 ECTS credits will be awarded for that course. In this way, a total of 30 ECTS credit points can be acquired. For more information on ECTS see page 38.

Direct university access or university preparation? If the foreign secondary school’s diploma is not recognized as being equivalent to the German Abitur, attendance at a university preparatory institute will be required before being admitted to the university. Acceptance into a university preparatory institute presumes a good knowledge of German at the middle level, which can be acquired in Intensive and Premium Courses, and can be proven with the B1 Diploma Exam, an exam offered by did deutsch institut. In the case that the foreign diploma is recognized as being equivalent to the Abitur, direct admission into the university is possible. In this case, the proof of sufficient German knowledge is shown by taking the TestDaF (page 19).

Spring Semester 2014 (ISM: Frankfurt | EBC: Berlin, Hamburg | Dates and Package Prices Package

Age group

This program offers international students, who would like to begin a course of study at a German University, the opportunity to become extensively informed about this country’s system of higher education. In addition to personal counseling regarding selection of an appropriate field of study as well as study location, the applicant’s academic resume will be reviewed with a particular eye towards the admissions requirements for studying at a German university. When the applicant fulfills the requisite requirements, enrollment in the university will follow. If acceptance directly into a university is not possible, the advising efforts will focus on university preparation (Studienkolleg).

University acceptance before the course begins Collaboration and cooperation with a large number of universities make it possible to carefully prepare international applicants to study in Germany and to ensure them maximum security during the placement process in the German university system. This is because even before arriving in Germany, it will be determined whether the foreign student’s high school and college diplomas and credentials are sufficient to satisfy the German requirements. If the academic requirements are fulfilled, applicants will be accepted into a university with the stipulation that, at a later time, the required German skills are proven by taking the Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache (TestDaF).

www.did-agents.com

The application, along with all necessary documentation, must be received no later than four months before the beginning of the German course. In the case where an applicant has no prior German knowledge, a course duration of 36 weeks (or longer) must be assumed. With existing German knowledge, an Intensive or Premium Course of at least 8 weeks in length should be booked; the actual course duration would then be determined by the level of prior knowledge and the progress made, always keeping in mind the learning objective: the completion of level B1 for acceptance into the preparatory course, and the completion of level B2 in order to take the TestDaF. Fields of work

Our German course for teachers covers 26 lessons per week, di vided into 3 instructional stages correlating with one another: In this teacher program your clients will study the German lan guage being regular students, being observers and being crit ics! At the first stage your clients are participating in a Standard Course and will experience our international classes from a student’s perspective. They will gain a lot of new impressions about pedagogical methods. Furthermore, they will have time to compare the pedagogical styles of their teachers with their own and to reflect about the differences. The main thing at this stage, though, is that your clients are going to improve their own lan guage competence by participating in the course.

Aside from a decent knowledge of the German language partic ipants will also need the permission of the Central Employment Office (ZAV) for doing an internship in Germany. As long as participants are between 18 and 26 years of age and citizens of a country that is member of the European Union we can arrange for an internship position that will start after students have fin ished their German courses. For all other nationalities the pos sibilities for going on internship are limited. However, in case your clients are enrolled at a university at home as regular stu dents and as long as the internship will be related to their fields of studies, the training will usually be permitted.

The enrollment form, including a CV in German plus 3 photos, must be submitted at the latest two months prior to the work program. This is a requirement because companies offering internships will insist on a personal interview beforehand.

Discontinuation If the internship will be discontinued early due to reasons did deutsch-institut must not justify, we will try to find 1 new position. If a successful placement is rejected or discontinued for personal reasons by the participant, fees will not be refunded.

Many companies will not pay the trainees. Some firms, however, may provide an allowance (small pocket money) if they are satisfied with the trainee's performance. Thumb up! by

Stage II: Study German as an observer In addition to the daily participation in the Standard Course your clients can look forward to 4 more lessons per week – however, this will be in another class with different teachers. Thus, participants will have the opportunity to experience and analyze a variety of individual pedagogical methods and a large number of very different teacher personalities. Your clients attention will again be focused on analyzing the test materials, the methods and the general group dynamics: Is the selection of teaching methods age-related? How to evaluate the use of supplemen tary materials? Are materials like audio and video tapes mean ingfully integrated into the instructional context? In this second course stage participants will learn, most of all, by observing.

Stage III: Study German as a critic Teacher Training Unlike other courses, the Teacher Training focuses on the everyday practical teaching experience. The foreign German teachers participate in our Standard Courses with 20 lessons per week on advanced level. Thus, participants do not form a special teacher training class. This situation enables the participating teachers to experience language instruction from a whole new perspective: from the student’s point of view. In a further stage your customers will attend other level classes as visitors. Together with a teacher of did deutsch-institut the attended courses will then be analyzed. Methods will be discussed and materials will be presented and handed out. Being classroom observers, foreign German teachers will have possibilities to gain valuable ideas for their language instruction at home like stylistic analysis of texts and effective methods for teaching grammar problems. This course will be completed by an extensive program – for instance with videos and DVDs featuring interesting contemporary topics. Of the 26 lessons per week, 20 lessons are in regular classes (Standard Course). 4 lessons consist of visiting classes and 2 lessons deal for instance with evaluation and presenting materials. In the following you find a description (stage I to stage III) of all elements of which this program is composed.

After class participants are going to meet the second stage tea cher for an individual discussion. Here they will have the oppor tunity speaking about pedagogical approaches, educational concepts as well as the curriculum in particular. Here, at stage 3, the participants’ contributions are most important. There’s plenty of time for intensive professional discussions among two experienced colleagues – meaning the German instructor and the participant, a teacher as well. This way, your clients can develop new ideas, talk about new teaching materials and about encourag ing intercultural comparison. A final meeting with the school director will complete the program where participants will go beyond the pedagogical aspect by also gaining insight into the management of a language institute such as did deutsch-institut. This way, your customers will get to know the essentials of our institute in only two weeks time. Thumb up! by

A city of art and culture The big city is not far away – Munich is only around 35 minutes from Augsburg by interurban train! However, Augsburg, Bavaria’s third largest city, possesses its own unique charm: life here is quite comfortable and less hectic. Throughout the city, fountains are splashing, people are sitting in street cafés, and students are meeting to play football in parks. And of course, evidence of Augsburg’s magnificent history can be seen wherever you look: At the time of the renaissance, the city was a center for architecture, music and painting! Holbein’s and Mozart’s ancestors also lived in Augsburg.

Winter holidays in Bavaria The Winter Course is bookable with a minimum course length of one week. It includes 24 lessons of group instruction with a maximum class size of 15. The morning courses can be supplemented with one-to-one lessons in the afternoon. Three afternoon activities during the week and one daytrip on weekends are also offered.

Included in the price Placement test | Teaching materials | Course certificate Intensive Course with 24 lessons per week Host family accommodation with full board 3 weekly + weekend activities (admission included) Local transportation card (public transport) Transfer from / to Augsburg central railway station

The concepts of the three courses vary not only with respect to size, but also with respect to intensity. Except during summer, the Intensive Course guarantees a weekly 24-lesson concentrated course of German study. For those who wish an even more intensive learning experience, optional one-on-one lessons can be added. During the summer, the Standard Course is made up of 20 lessons per week, which provides an ideal basis for a vacation course. With a 4-lesson upgrade, the course is easily transformed from Standard to Intensive. The free-time program is also adjusted depending upon the time of year.

Sunny language holidays in Augsburg

From the joyful hustle and bustle surrounding the Carnival celebration to the many summer festivals and on to the delightful ambience of the Christmas market held in front of the magnificent renaissance city hall – there is always something new to experience year-round in Augsburg. Our courses strive for variety as well, by emphasizing differing topics in tuition and freetime activities depending upon the season. Tuition during summer and winter occurs in learning groups of up to 15 students, but the concept for courses between those two seasons is much more focused. The maximum class size is five per class then!

Listening, speaking and reading within a playful, creative context form the core of the tuition that is much practice-oriented. Tuition always takes place in the mornings. Courses are supplemented by afternoon excursions that are carefully prepared and evaluated in class by our teaching staff.

The 1,000-year old city of Aschaffenburg lies in convenient distance to Frankfurt airport and is bordered on the east by the Spessart mountains, one of Central Europe’s largest continuous forested regions. The city itself with its historical monuments like the monumental renaissance castle Johannisburg abounds with parks and green spaces as well as it offers a wide variety of cultural life. All around the year Aschaffenburg presents a colorful range of fun-filled festivals – but especially during the summer city life is extremely exciting here.

Germany’s oldest city, towered over by the spires of its worldfamous cathedral offers many cultural and historical treasures from Roman and medieval times, world-famous museums and an active art scene. Modern Cologne, though, has a leading position in media production. Life in the city is uncomplicated and vivacious with many pubs, cafés and restaurants. Located at the river Rhine, Cologne is surrounded by mountains and idyllic valleys with castles, monasteries and choir ruins. And even the wellknown Loreley is just round the corner.

Intensive Course Upgrade (4 lessons per week) | Wiesbaden only!

Nuremberg is Bavaria’s second largest city. Its heart lies within the 14th century defensive wall with a total of 80 towers. Much of the center is pedestrian precinct. Timbered houses of the Middle Ages still stand intact in narrow streets and on open squares among shops, cafes and eating places. The dominating feature is the Kaiserburg, the old imperial castle. Worldwide known are the Nürnberger Lebkuchen – gingerbread that can be found in different shapes and sizes all over the city. And of course, even the little sausages have made the city’s name famous.

Potsdam is just a quick 38-minute train ride from the Berlin central train station on the S-Bahn. But even in that short distance, the difference between the two cities could hardly be greater. In contrast to the constantly reinvented metropolis that is Berlin, Potsdam is a completely historic location with famous parks and castles – for example, Sans-Souci Palace, the New Palace or the Orangery Palace. But in addition, the city is also young and innovative: 15% of its inhabitants are students and international blockbusters are filmed in the Babelsberg film studio.

Wiesbaden | 275,000 inhabitants When picking the right place to learn the German language one might not think about Wiesbaden right away. That is because the first words visitors encounter after arriving in Wiesbaden are French or English including Faites vos jeux, Roulette, Black Jack or Poker. That’s right: Wiesbaden is the Monte Carlo of Germany. The town is rich and beautiful, and its Casino is world-famous. But with its 270,000 inhabitants, Wiesbaden is also a city with a high leisure-time and living value for younger people.

The residence is located right in the heart of the Austrian capiO tal, only a short 15-minute walk Ö from Belvedere Palace – one of the most well-known sights in the city. And at the same time, Vienna’s new main train station is right around the corner. You can reach it in less than 10 minutes on foot – a perfect point of departure from which to explore the city and its environs comfortably and quickly! From here we start three afternoons during the week to do just that, to discover Vienna’s historic sights and places of interest, and on Saturdays, day trips to interesting destinations surrounding the city are on the program.

Vienna (Wien) Residence | 14 to 17 years KEPLERU PLATZ

The Vienna residence offers our participants the most modern of accommodations. After all, the building of our hotel partner A&O was finished in spring 2013. There is a selection of doubleand four-bed rooms to choose from, all outfitted with private baths with shower, of course. The rooms are cleaned daily and towels are changed every four days. All the classrooms can be found in the same building and likewise meet the newest standards. They are quiet and bright. Billiards, foosball, karaoke, a Wii lounge and a bicycle rental are all available to provide sufficient entertainment opportunities.

Attending a German private high school Attending a private high school is more expensive than attending a comparable public high school. The quality of the instruction, as well as the comprehensiveness of the offerings, is comparable. However, the ability to obtain a certificate for admission to a German university is only possible by attending a private high school.

Depending on the participants’ age and the desired course dates, we will suggest a course location that will be most appropriate for your clients. Of course, we also take the customers’ ideas into consideration. However, we recommend smaller course locations for our younger participants because it will be easier for them to find their way around town. On the contrary, larger cities will offer more tourist attractions and a larger variety of cultural events for older students. The Deutsch Privat Program includes two afternoon activities per week where participants go on tour to discover cultural and natural sights of the respective region together with their hosts.

Host family accommodation Most of our carefully selected host families live in quiet neighborhoods in the outskirts of cities. Public transportation offers convenient connections to the city centers. Our participants are fully integrated into their German host families. However, they should not expect to be looked after 24 hours a day and respect the way of living in Germany and certain German habits as for example that families traditionally have a warm meal at noon and might not cook in the evening. Beyond this we expect a certain level of independence, of personal initiative and openness towards making new friends. Participants in this program should be willing to get in contact with people!

Deutsch Privat Program | Package Prices Prices for course, activities, family accommodation with full board

Learning German in a teacher’s home With the Deutsch Privat Program your customers will have the possibility to study German in a familiar setting, because in this case, the instruction either takes place in the host family’s home or directly at the teacher’s apartment. Sometimes, the host will be the teacher at the same time. However, many of our participants prefer to live in a family while having somebody else from outside who is taking care of the language instruction. If your clients explicitly want to be accommodated at a teacher’s home, they should point this out at the time of registration. In any case, the Deutsch Privat Program will give participants the chance to study German very individually. Your clients plan to come to Germany with 2 or 3 of their friends who are all interested in the Deutsch Privat Program? No problem! Since the instruction will take place in a small group setting, the fees will be reduced. But you have to get together a group of at least three students! To make sure, however, that your customers are going to speak German most of the time, they will be accommodated at different host families. There, of course, they will be accepted as a full member of the family. On the other hand, though, this doesn’t mean that the host family can take care of a student 24 hours a day. Your customers should have a certain degree of independence and personal initiative.

Changes of booking can be made free of charge only in case of upgrading a booked service, for example changing to a course with a higher number of weekly lessons. Changes of booking resulting in a downgrade of the originally booked services can be made until 4 weeks prior to the course start at an administration fee of 50,- €. If changes of booking are made at a later date than 4 weeks prior to the booked course start, did deutsch-institut reserves the right to charge a higher administration fee.

Generally all course prices given in this Agents‘ Manual are valid from 01.01.2014 until 31.12.2014, and beyond this date, as long as the start of a chosen course program is within the time of va lidity. Irrespective of the booking date, the prices given are not valid for course programs starting after 31.12.2014 for which the appropriate prices for 2015 will be in effect. Prices for 2015 will be released in August 2014. The prices for all options of accom modation are solely valid from 01.01.2014 until 31.12.2014. The prices for the High School Program and Private High School Program are effective for the academic school year 2014 / 2015 beginning in August and ending in July, that is from 01.08.2014 until 31.07.2015.

1.5 Cancellation prior to course start

2.2 VAT

3.1 Entry requirements | Visa

Cancellations of services made in advance have to be submitted in writing. Until 4 weeks prior to the course start the administration fee will be 50,- €. After that, and until 2 weeks prior to the course start, we will charge an administration fee of 100,- €. For all cancellations during the remaining 14 days prior to the course start we will charge an administration fee of 250,- €. Irrespective of the time the cancellation is received, did deutschinstitut reserves the right to invoice the fees for booked servic es for accommodation and/or board in addition to the adminis tration fee, either in part or to the full extent. If participants do not show up at the course start, the full amount for the course, accommodation, and all additional services have to be paid.

All did deutsch-institut courses are exempt of VAT (value added tax). Family accommodation is exempt of VAT for all participants under 27 years of age. For participants 27 years and older at the time of booking, did deutsch-institut is obliged by law to collect the statutory VAT of currently 19% on family accommodation. We took this into consideration when calculating the prices by applying a mixed calculation so that we can offer family accommodation at identical prices to all clients of different ages. Please note that by doing so we can no longer report the VAT for family accommodation separately on the invoice. For services liable to VAT the taxes are already included in the published net prices you will find in this Agents’ Manual.

Generally all participants need a passport (or identification card) valid for the total time of their stay in Germany. If an identification card or a passport expires during the stay at did deutsch-institut according to law the participant has to leave the country. did deutsch-institut assumes no liability and does not refund already booked courses that cannot be attended because of an invalid identification card or passport. Participants from member states of the European Union only need a valid identity card for traveling to Germany. Participants from non-European Union countries may need a visa. Please contact the German embassy or consulate in your country for more information on the current visa requirements.

1.6 Cancellation after course start

2.3 Payments

3.2 Visa application | Letter of invitation

Cancellations, in full or in parts, of services booked in advance such as tuition, accommodation, transfer etc. are not possible after course start. If a participant abandons the course for reasons unconnected with any fault on the part of did deutsch-institut, there will be no refund. A cancellation of the chosen type of accommodation is not possible within the first 4 weeks after arri val, unless there is a major fault on the side of did deutsch-institut. The cancellation of the chosen accommodation after arrival is only possible at the end of the fourth week if two weeks notice is given in writing. There will be no refund. The law gover ning termination for grave cause remains unaffected by these conditions of cancellation.

All invoices will be made out in Euro (€) and have to be settled in this currency. The full payment for all items booked (course, accommodation and additional services) must be credited to the did deutsch-institut account at least two weeks prior to the program start. Please make payments into the account mentioned under 2.4 Bank details. Payments with credit cards will not be accepted.
