ABOUT Tamwood Giving Your Kids an Advantage Tamwood Camps are not just a vacation; they’re fun with a purpose - to improve your child’s future. By sending your child to Tamwood, you will open new doors for them - academic, social and personal doors which will enhance their life. In teaching them to speak English, helping them discover what their true passions and goals are, teaching them positive character traits and giving them the chance to test themselves and in the process build their self-confidence and self-esteem, Tamwood Camps gives your child an advantage in life and memories to last a life-time. Whatever your child dreams about, with the skills they gain at Tamwood, they can make their dreams come true.

Ages and Nationalities Campers are divided into two age groups for all activities and classes: Juniors, ages 7-12 and Teens, ages 13-17 (18 in winter). Campers come from many countries including: Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Korea, Latvia, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Taiwan, Turkey, Thailand, UAE, USA, and Venezuela.

Meals & Special Diets Campers living in residence enjoy 3 meals and an evening snack every day. Meals are served buffet style and campers can choose what they like. Vegetarian options are always available and other special diets can be accommodated with advance notice. Homestay hosts provide breakfast and dinner in the home and packed lunches on school days.

Airport Transfers Campers are met at the airport by Tamwood staff and taken by bus to the campus. Transfers are provided free of charge for campers arriving and departing on Sundays between 8:00 and 20:00. Airport transfers are provided at the following airports: Los Angeles: Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Boston: Logan International Airport (BOS), San Francisco: San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and San Jose International Airport (SJC), Vancouver & Whistler: Vancouver International Airport (YVR), Toronto: Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).

Staff Our staff are hired from across Canada and the world, on the basis of their values, passion, skills, and genuine love for children. Our unique and careful interview process allows us to identify candidates who have the intelligence, compassion, skills and motivation to be successful. Every staff member, whether new or returning, arrives at camp early and has an extensive training period before your child arrives. We are committed to making a difference in your child’s life.

Care and Safety Tamwood cares for all of its campers as much as their parents do, and safety of all campers and staff is a top priority for Tamwood. Our carefully designed rules and procedures ensure that all activities are carried out in a safe manner. Also, all equipment is checked regularly to ensure that it is in safe working condition. We nip homesickness in the bud and work extra hard to make sure your kids make friends and feel connected and cared for from day one. Parents can sleep easy knowing someone is looking out for their child as much as they would.

Tamwood’s transformative vacation programs offer campers the opportunity to learn, discover and achieve! Campers learn curiosity, creative thinking, global mindedness, tolerance, resilience, cross-cultural communication skills, leadership, collaboration and personal responsibility.

Most activities offered are instructional so campers learn new skills and improve existing skills under the organized coaching and leadership of trained Tamwood staff.

Tamwood brings out the best in its campers through its innovative and experiential learning programs that target students’ unique learning needs and interests. Program options offer instruction in English language, Leadership, Robotics, Game Design and Musical Theatre

Send your kids to this camp and they will be thanking you for months! This structured program provides kids with an amazing and safe international educational experience. Our talented and caring staff teach, inspire and guide the kids to Explore, Learn and Achieve, while making memories to last a life-time. This fun educational camp for kids combines English language classes with instructional and recreational activities, social activities and exciting excursions to culturally important local sites.

Teen Global Learner Camp

Ages: 13-17

With the guidance of our skilled staff and coaches your teen will learn new skills, expand existing abilities, discover talents they didn’t know they had, and forever transform themselves in wonderful ways you can barely imagine. Tamwood’s unique approach links the core subject of English to technology, leadership, the arts, sports, culture and outdoor education. The Tamwood Teen Global Learner Camp provides teenaged campers with a rich educational experience through English language classes, educational activities, cross cultural living arrangements, leadership training and activities, and critical reflection. Campers become “global citizens” who have an international understanding and perspective, stronger academic English and communication skills as well as the core life skills and competencies that will enable them to happily succeed in life, wherever they find themselves in the future.

Robotics Camp Ages: 13-17

Learn and have fun with robotics. This program uses the VEX Robotics System which offers teens an exciting platform for learning about career opportunities spanning science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Through STEM learning, campers grow their ability to tackle complex problems and develop their curiosity and passion to learn and explore. Beyond science and engineering principles, a VEX Robotics project also encourages teamwork, leadership and problem solving among groups. This program is designed for collaborative learning. Tamwood encourages students to utilize their English skills and any prior knowledge or experience with robotics or STEM. When not in class, students enjoy planned activities on campus as well as field trips to explore the wonderful city of Boston. Students will tour Massachusetts Institute of technology (M.I.T.) and Harvard, two universities leading the industry on technology and entrepreneurship. To further develop their knowledge and understanding of robotics, students will enjoy a robotics engineering workshop hosted by M.I.T.

Game Design and Coding Camp

Ages: 13-17

The Game Design and Coding Camp at San Francisco is a perfect introduction to the fast-paced and ever-changing world of technology. Students will learn the fundamentals of computer programming as well as abstract computer science concepts through engaging web based lessons. Campers will apply their knowledge by creating their own multi-level electronic games, complete with animated adventures, custom characters, and unique story lines. Participants will go home with an online account which will allow them to share their creations with family and friends on the web, iOS and Android devices. When not in class, students enjoy planned activities on campus as well as field trips to explore the wonderful city of San Francisco and the Silicon Valley, a world renowned “tech hub” and home of exciting and innovative tech companies such as Facebook, Instagram, Google, Apple, Netflix, and Yahoo.

Musical Theatre Camp Ages: 13-17

In the Musical Theatre program at UTM-Mississauga, teen campers will explore the stage and develop skills in singing, dancing and acting. Led by passionate instructors with musical theatre backgrounds, campers will work to produce a final performance including song, dance and non-musical scenes for other campers and Tamwood staff. This challenging and exciting course will not only encourage campers to build new friendships and self-confidence and but also provide an immersive English language experience. When not in class, students enjoy planned activities on campus as well as field trips to explore the fast paced and exciting city of Toronto. Toronto is an epicenter of culture, the city is well known for the many Broadway plays, improv groups and an impressive collection of large and small theatres throughout the city.

Musical Theatre Campers will Achieve: • An understanding of the fundamentals skills needed in musical theatre including dance, voice, acting and performance • An understanding of how to present themselves professionally in performance situations – either at auditions or on stage. • Leadership and teamwork skills • Cross-cultural communication skills for their global future • Enhanced self-esteem and personal responsibility • Skills in setting and achieving measurable goals

Teen Outdoor Leadership Camp

Ages: 13-17

Do More. Learn More. BE MORE! Join a small group of teens from around the world who, like you, are ready for more than what a standard camp offers. You will learn important leadership, team work, personal responsibility, outdoor and safety skills as you experience new adventure activities and enjoy wilderness overnight backpacking in the mountains.

Outdoor Leadership Campers will Achieve: Learn skills like how to kayak, rock climb, whitewater paddle, backpack, navigate and mountain bike. WINTER TEEN ENGLISH and ACTIVITY CAMP

Ages: 12-18

With its local ski hills, mild weather and many attractions, Vancouver is full of adventure and fun in January. Your teen will have a rich educational experience through English language classes, educational activities, cross-cultural living arrangements, leadership training, social and sporting events and activities, and critical reflection.

Activities & Excursions Great excursions and activities make for some seriously fun learning. The activity program includes skiing, ice skating, swimming, dancing, shopping, sightseeing visits to the Suspension Bridge, Science World, the Aquarium, a hockey game and more.

Accommodations Teens get maximum contact with English speakers through our Homestay Program. All homestay hosts are carefully selected and offer single or twin rooms, three meals a day and lots of attention to their guest students.

FAMILY ENGLISH closed group and ACTIVITY CAMP STUDY TOURS Why let your kids have all the fun? You can travel together and enjoy a family learning holiday this winter or summer vacation period. While your kids are learning and exploring with their peers in a Tamwood Camp program, you can build your English fluency and skills in the Tamwood Adult English Centre close by. Sundays and weeknights are free for family time.

Accommodations Families stay together in apartment hotels, vacation homes or with Canadian host families. Locations and Dates: Vancouver in January and Whistler in July/August

Tamwood provides customized language and activity programs for groups of students in all months of the year. These closed group programs are offered in Toronto, Vancouver and Whistler and can be customized to suit the interests, dates and budget of the group. English Curriculum and Teachers English Curriculum For: English and Activities Camp for Juniors, Teen Global Learner Camp, Winter Teen English and Activity Camp, Family English and Activity Camp, Closed Group Study Tours.

Young learners, ages 7-12 Campers take part in a General English course - 20 lessons (45 minutes each) per week. Campers improve their English skills through integrated lessons that focus on the key areas: speaking, listening, reading and writing through lessons, fun activities, role plays, group and individual work and multi-media. A strong focus is placed on speech and using the language confidently and fluently.

Teens, ages 13-18 Campers in the Teen Global Learner Camp and the Winter Teen English and Activity Camp, follow a General English program – 20 lessons (45 minutes each) per week. Teens develop their English fluency and written English skills, with a focus on English for post-secondary studies. Teens learn through a project-based curriculum that also enhances their skills in collaboration, leadership and responsibility and their knowledge of internationally themed real-world issues.

Meet our Teachers The English teachers at our camps are not ordinary teachers – they are caring, youth-orientated, fun and inspiring. Besides a university degree and certification to teach English, they also have experience working with kids and teens and know how to engage and challenge young minds.

TORONTO University of Toronto Toronto is Canada’s largest city and offers an amazing number of attractions, events and festivals making it a great cosmopolitan summer camp location. Tamwood’s Toronto summer camp is located on the University of Toronto campus, Mississauga. The campus is situated on 225 acres of protected greenbelt along the Credit River and is 20 minutes by car from the Toronto airport, 25 kilometres west of the city centre of Toronto, close to Lake Ontario, Niagara Falls, Canada’s Wonderland and many other famous sites. The location of this campus makes it a very safe and attractive choice for international campers.

WHISTLER Whistler, British Columbia Located 120 kms north of Vancouver, the Whistler area is home to two famous ski mountains, and the valley offers sports, hiking and cycling trails, a world class mountain bike park, four fresh water lakes, a medical centre, shops, restaurants, a movie theatre, golf, tennis, white water rafting, an indoor swimming pool, and much more. Tamwood’s English school is located in the Whistler Village close to everything! Students take part in activities at various facilities located throughout the resort.

VANCOUVER Simon Fraser University Campus Vancouver, host to the 2010 Olympic Games, is considered one of the most beautiful cities in Canada. It is situated on the Pacific Ocean and surrounded by lots of beaches, mountains and nature. Tamwood’s summer camp in Vancouver is located at the prestigious Simon Fraser University, at the summit of Burnaby Mountain overlooking beautiful Vancouver. Downtown Vancouver is a short twenty-five minute drive from SFU.

Accommodations The majority of campers living in residence are assigned to single dormitory rooms at SFU. All washrooms are shared facilities. Meals are served buffet style in the campus dining hall. Homestays in single rooms with full board are also available.

SAN FRANCISCO San Jose State University San Francisco is a wonderful place for young people to spend their summer. Located in the Silicon Valley and close to the city, the university campus is modern, clean and has many excellent facilities. The campus is safe for young people and also accessible to the best attractions in the city. Campus facilities include gyms, a pool, sports fields, auditorium, and computer lab with free Internet.

LOS ANGELES UCLA The question in Los Angeles is never what to do, but where to begin. Los Angeles is home to many famous attractions - your choices include amusement parks, architectural landmarks, art museums and galleries, beaches, parks, hiking and shopping, to name a few. Tamwood Summer Camps is located at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). It is located in the residential area of Westwood and bordered by Bel-Air, Beverly Hills and Brentwood. Its central Los Angeles location makes it the perfect place for this summer camp which is so rich in sightseeing excursions.

BOSTON Curry College The city of Boston is America’s premier college town and one of its most international cities. First incorporated in 1630, Boston is also one of the United States’ oldest cities. Our Boston Summer Camp is located at Curry College. Situated on a 135-acre wooded campus and only 7 miles from the downtown core of Boston, Curry College is a great location not only for its beauty but also for the safety and security that it provides for our Summer Camp. The campus is right next door to the Blue Hills natural reservation, which offers breathtaking views and many kinds of outdoor recreation opportunities.

Accommodations The student residence is comprised of double and single rooms in a suite style setting (6 per suite).
