LEARNING GOALS
Dear participant:
Through the study of the present e-book we expect you to achieve the following learning goals:
-Plan with mind maps organizational goals considering the shared vision -Implements mental maps to achieve the objectives of the organization.
For the achievement of the goals it is necessary for you to accomplish the activities of meta-cognition and the application with the members of an organization proposals at the end.

INTRODUCTION
In this e-book the key axes of mental maps are explained, which were created by Tony Buzan. Emphasis is placed on using them to determine the goals of an organization, although they can be used to take notes, plan projects, structuring a presentation, create an idea, etc.
For a better understanding of mental maps, the conceptual cartography is used, a strategy adapted by Tobon (2014) based on concept maps, complex thinking, and mind mapping. This strategy facilitates understanding and application of knowledge in solving problems of context.

Conceptual Cartography seeks for students to learn how to manage information and build up knowledge from a highly relevant idea or concept following at least eight axes.
Chart 1. Analysis elements in the mind maps Exemplifying axis
Giving an example about the concept. What could be an example of the main concept for the selected mind maps?
Notional axis
Describing the concept’s notion or definition What does the mind map’s key concept consist of? What is the concept’s etymological root?
©2014. CIFE All rights reserved. www.cife.us
7
What is the key concept’s origin? Categorical axis
Classifying the concept in a greater class. In what greater process or general class is the concept? The class must be immediately greater than the concept.
Characteristics axis
Defining the concept’s characteristics What are the concept’s key characteristics? What elements tell each of these characteristics apart?

8
Differentiation axis
Telling the concept apart from other similar concepts How is the concept different from other similar concepts within the same category? What are the differences with those other similar concepts?
Subdivision axis
Defining the concept’s different kinds or classes What different concept classes or kinds are there? What are the distinctive elements in each of these classes? Explain each class or kind
Š2014. CIFE All rights reserved. www.cife.us
9
Link axis
Relating the concept to contributions from other disciplines and perspectives. To what other social, historical, economic and political processes outside the category is the concept related? To what disciplines, epistemological approaches, and theories is the concept related? Explain the relationships
Methodology axis
Describing the key methodology to the concept’s implementation What are the minimum methodological elements implied in covering the concept? Explain each element in detail.

ORIENTATION TO THE STUDENT We recommend you consider the following suggestions in the process of studying the e-book. SUGGESTIONS FOR THE STUDY OF THE TUTORIAL VIDEO 1. It is recommended keeping a diary during the study process, which records the reflections, doubts, achievements and actions to be implemented to improve.
2. Try to explain each of the questions addressed before seeing the analysis. These answers are necessary to be registered in the diary with the purpose of later assessing the advances had in the process. Š2014. CIFE All rights reserved. www.cife.us
11
3. In each self-evaluation it is recommended to make a note in the diary about the achieved learning or the uncertainties.
At the end of the e-book, it is necessary to make a register of the activities of application proposed in your diary.
4. Consider the bibliographic references and the links to complement the process of study, like also the resources of the digital library that is in the classroom of the course.

PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE SELF-EVALUATION
Before beginning the study it is important that you answer the following self-evaluation in your field diary. Charles prepared the map below. Discuss it and select the most relevant response end its discretion.
Š2014. CIFE All rights reserved. www.cife.us
13
Select the appropriate option:
1. It is not a mind map
2. It is a mind map
3. It is a conceptual map
4. It is a synthetic mind map
Please explain your answer in the academic forum of the learning platform.

EXEMPLIFICATION
Which could be a example of mind maps? An example of the concept or theory is presented below. In this example the use of mind maps is shown to address organizational goals in the context of running a business.
Š2014. CIFE All rights reserved. www.cife.us
15
In this example you can see that the mind map articulates words, pictures, colors and symbols to account for an idea.
The idea is shown in the center of the map. It is the organizational culture. Then they have a number of secondary ideas leaving the main idea, such as the goals

NOTIONAL AXIS
What is mind maps?
Mind maps are diagrams articulate verbal information (words, phrases, sentences and notes) with nonverbal information (images, colors and symbols).
Are structured from an idea, word or image that is placed in the center of a leaf. The branches main emerge thence outwardly with words or phrases simulating a neuron. Each branch has, in turn, subbranches with secondary information.
Mind maps have many applications, such as note taking, summary of readings, goal planning, Š2014. CIFE All rights reserved. www.cife.us

organization of activities to be performed, creation of ideas, planning of conference, etc.
Mind maps were raised by Tony Buzan in the late seventies of the last century to facilitate note taking, planning projects and synthesize ideas.

CATEGORIZATION
What is the general class it belong the mind maps?
Mind maps are within the general class of strategies employed for knowledge management.
Knowledge management consists of:
1. Determine what knowledge is required to solve a problem 2. Find relevant sources for such knowledge 3. Processing knowledge and analyze 4. Understanding the knowledge 5. Adapt, create / innovate the knowledge 6. Apply the knowledge to solve the problem that has Š2014. CIFE All rights reserved. www.cife.us

CHARACTERISTICS
What are the key characteristics of mind maps?
Then the essential characteristics of mental maps are described on the basis of categorization (knowledge management).
1. Articulate words and images.
2. Present the synthesis of a topic that is placed in the center and explained with branches that follow the direction of clockwise.
3. They help clarify the steps to solve a problem.

DIFFERENCES
From what other close concept is it different?
Mind maps differ from the conceptual maps and schemes.
Schemes: They are figures that organize information to understand your major and minor parties, without articulating images and symbols.

SUBDIVISION
What are types of mind maps?
Then the types of mental maps are explained that is applied in a organization. Each type or class must meet the presented characteristics.
Basically, two types of mental maps that are applied in organizations have:
Type 1. Mind Maps with emphasis on text elements.
Type 2. Mind Maps with emphasis on images and symbols.
Š2014. CIFE All rights reserved. www.cife.us

Type 1. Mind Maps with emphasis on text elements.
These maps have many words, phrases, or texts. However, they also possess some images and colors. An example is presented then.

Type 2. Mind Maps with emphasis on images and symbols.
These maps have many images and symbols. However, they also possess some words and phrases. An example is presented then.

METHODOLOGY
What are the key elements of the method of mind maps?
Then is explained the key steps of the mind maps in the organizations.
Step 1. Determine the shared vision of the organization.
Step 2. Agreeing a central image that represents the shared vision.
Step 3. Establish which products are required to achieve the shared vision by brainstorming. Š2014. CIFE All rights reserved. www.cife.us
29
Step 4. Draw a picture of each product in a different branch of the map from the central image. Add words to the images of the products.
Step 5. Revise the relevance and feasibility of each product. Eliminate products that are not relevant or feasible.
Step 6. Unite products that are part of a larger product in the same branch, with sub-branches.
Step 7. Agreeing team established products.
Step 8. Associate time, activities and resources to the products so that they can achieve.
Š2014. CIFE All rights reserved. www.cife.us
30
Step 9. Linking products to help achieve them in the shortest time possible.
Step 10. Placing the map in a conspicuous place and make notes on possible changes that are being made.

SUGGESTIONS FOR ASSIGNMENTS
We suggest developing a mental map with the goals in a specific area of an organization through teamwork and considering the steps in the methodology.
This is very important to learn to work with this methodology, allowing you to have more clarity of objectives and actions to be implemented to achieve them.
