FROM THE EDITOR

T

MARILYN ESPERANTE FIGUEREDO| INFO@CIGARCITYMAGAZINE.COM his is our fourth issue of Cigar City Magazine. The support we have received from you, our readers, has been wonderful! Over the past few months, we have attended many events and have been encour-

aged by those of you who stopped to talk with us. You have told us that a magazine like ours is so needed in our community.

We also appreciate the personal stories you have shared about growing up

in Tampa. We hope to use many of the old photographs and documents you have sent to us in future issues of our magazine. So please keep sending them in. Above and Cover: Photographs from Tobacco Pioneers story featured on page 36.

Our home delivery list is growing and we thank you for those orders. We

are amazed how many requests are coming from out of state. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

This issue is full of some very interesting stories. You will learn about

three of Tampa’s well-known tobacco/cigar families, then become educated on

“The Art of the Label”, a story on cigar label art. Then find out about a cigar

rolling school that has opened in Ybor City. “El Lector” talks about the arrival of the radio and how the device threatened the readers in our cigar factories.

In “The Meaning of Home”, you will learn about “shotgun” homes built for

Tampa’s cigar workers. Mama is still around so don’t forget to check out her most recent advice.

One last thing, we are thinking about having a section in our magazine

called “Memories of Tampa.” We will include memories our readers send in to us about our city. So think about it and write to us. Have a Cigar City Day! Marilyn Esperante Figueredo
