Self-Guided Tour Harrisburg Campus Welcome to Widener Law!

There is no better place to study the law than Widener. Enjoy a challenging curriculum taught by respected legal scholars, a wealth of clinical programs and externships, and a diverse and welcoming community while pursuing a legal education that balances both theory and practice. Widener's two campuses offer day and evening programs which double your flexibility and career development opportunities. The following pages will guide you around our beautiful campus. We hope this self-guided tour will provide you with a sense of the campus atmosphere and amenities. Please do not hesitate to contact the Admissions Office for further information. Enjoy your tour!

Start at the Main Law Building. This building houses all of our classrooms, faculty offices, and the law library. As you enter the building you will see our security desk located below the spiral stair case. Security is available at all times while the campus is open. THE ENVIRONMENTAL LAW CLINIC is located to the left of the security desk and is one of our two legal clinics on campus. Widener Harrisburg also offers a CIVIL LAW CLINIC located just off campus. In a legal clinic, students represent their own clients, working in groups or individually to resolve a case. Each clinic is staffed by a supervising attorney. This is also home to our LAW & GOVERNMENT INSTITUTE office, our largest concentration program that prepares students for a career in the public sector.

Enter the Legal Information Center Through the Double Doors on the Right. THE LEGAL INFORMATION CENTER offers over 200,000 volumes and is connected to other university libraries across the nation through the inter-library loan program. You will find three study rooms and a computer lab which provides full access to Lexis Nexis, Westlaw, and Bloomberg. A training lab for these databases is located in the back left-hand corner of the library in addition to another student lounge. Please take some time to browse our selection of books, legal journals, and periodicals.

Exit the Library and Ascend the Spiral Staircase. At the top of the stairs you will find a open lounge for our students referred to as the “PIT. This lounge is the main common area for our students and often is filled with students studying and socializing. Lining this area you will find six classrooms. Each classroom boasts wireless internet access, electrical outlets in the desks, chalkboards, and smart boards. Please take the time to view a classroom that is not in use. If you would like to sit in on a class, please contact the Admissions Office. You will see another computer lab on the right side of the Pit, this one larger than the library computer lab. Next to this lab is our Information Technology Services department (ITS), which offers tech support to our students free of charge. Student Mailboxes are located just in front of the ITS office.

Exit the Main Law Building and follow the stairs on your left, up to the Student Activities Building. You will pass our basketball and tennis courts on your left, as well as our non-regulation soccer field. All students have access to a sports shed, which was presented to Widener Law as a gift from the Class of 2010. The sports shed is filled with basketballs, tennis rackets, and other sports equipment for our students’ use. THE BOOKSTORE is attached to our student activities building. You will find all of the books and materials you need for class. Feel free to browse the text books and Widener Law merchandise.

Follow the sidewalk to the right of the bookstore and enter the building. The STUDENT BAR ASSOCIATION, our student government, is located in this building. All positions are elected by the student body and serve a term of one year. HONOR SOCIETIES located in this building include our Law Review, Moot Court, and Trial Advocacy groups. The honor societies are for 2L and 3L students who meet specific grade or ranking requirements. As a member of the Law Review you will help to produce the Widener Law Journal, published by the law school each year, as well as the annual Survey of Pennsylvania Administrative Law and an issue to compliment our annual Law Symposium. The Moot Court Honor Society offers a chance for our students to participate in exciting competitions with students from other law schools. Moot Court students represent a client in a realistic appeal from a trial court. Trial Advocacy team members prepare a case from start to finish and compete in an annual internal competition against the Delaware Campus Trial Advocacy team, as well as other competitors across the country.

Exit through the door you came in and descend the stairs to your left. The SIDEBAR CAFÉ is on your left. Our cafeteria serves food from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday to Friday during the regular school term. We offer a wide range of snacks, sandwiches, burgers, pizza, and wraps. Take a moment and try the cuisine before you continue on your tour.

Leave the Sidebar Café and follow the paved road to the Administration Building. As you walk, notice the pond on your left, and our parking lot on your right. Parking for students on campus is completely free. Each student receives a permit during Orientation Week, and may park anywhere on campus. On your right, you will also see our Legacy Path. Students, faculty, alumnus, and law school friends can purchase a stone along the path with their own personal message. Perhaps you will see your own name there someday! At the bottom of the hill on your left you will find the ADMINISTRATION BUILDING. Enter the building through the wooden double doors at the end of the courtyard. Turn right. The CAREER DEVELOPMENT OFFICE prepares students for their careers after law school. Our Director will be happy to talk about the many resources we offer for students needing assistance with their job search. Directly across the hall from the Career Development office you will find the ADMISSIONS OFFICE. We offer a number of informational brochures about the campus and assist with student housing in the area. Exit the Admissions Office and turn left. As you walk down the hall you will pass our Business Office, Registrar’s Office and Financial Aid Office. These offices serve to support our incoming and current students throughout their time at Widener Law. The BUSINESS OFFICE will help you manage your bills and payments. The REGISTRAR’S OFFICE handles student class scheduling and registration. This office will select all of your first-year courses, manage final exams, and process your transcripts once you graduate. The FINANCIAL AID OFFICE will work with you to ensure you are able to pay for your legal education. At the end of the hall turn left and pass through the door. The hallway on your right leads to our MOOT COURTROOM. It is our largest classroom on campus and is used for competitions, symposia, and various on-campus activities such as 1st year orientation.
