Widener Law Delaware Self-Guided Tour
Welcome to Widener Law Delaware! There is no better place to study law than Widener. Enjoy a challenging curriculum taught by respected legal scholars, a wealth of clinical programs and externships, and a diverse and welcoming community while pursuing a legal education that balances both theory and practice. At Widener Law Delaware, we offer day and evening programs. The following pages will guide you around our beautiful campus. Start at the Main Law Building Stand facing the campus with the main entrance doors behind you. Straight ahead are 2‐story tan townhouses, offering 1 and 2 bedroom apartments for 2nd and 3rd year students. PASSMORE HOUSE, the tan building in front of the townhouses, handles mainte‐ nance and housing requests. SHIPLEY HALL is in the right corner. This dorm building has single occupancy rooms, kitchens on each floor and shared bathrooms. A small gym is accessible through Shipley. Additional parking and a Rugby field are behind. Parking spaces surround the campus. Parking permits are issued during Orientation.
Turn around and enter the Main Law Building This is the 2 nd
floor; the Main Building has 4 floors total. ADMIS‐ SIONS is the first office on your left, please feel free to browse through our materials and contact us with any questions. RUBY R. VALE MOOT COURTROOM is through the double doors on your right. This room is a special events venue for moot court competitions, Delaware Su‐ preme Court hearings (once per year), and prominent regional speakers. Classes also take place here. The room is wireless and satellite capable . Outlets are available by each seat. Af‐ ter exiting the Moot Courtroom, down the hallway to your left, there is an elevator which leads to FACULTY and senior administrator offices on third and fourth floors upstairs. THE LEGAL INFORMATION CENTER is at the end of the hall. Our library holds over 500,000 publications through three floors. This entrance is the second floor. We offer study rooms and carrels through the second and third floors. The computers allow access to Westlaw, LexisNexis, and Bloomberg Law; a training lab for these databases is on the 1st floor.
Facing the Legal Information Center entrance The OFFICE OF STUDENT AFFAIRS and CLINICS are down to the right. T The Office of Student Affairs provides academic support and advising to students. The Associate Dean for Student Affairs is located in this office. Our clinics, in which students represent their own client, include Environmental, Civil, Criminal, and Veterans Affairs. Each clinic is staffed by a supervising attorney. The Student Organizations Offices are to the left, including the Student Bar Association. Downstairs from the Student Organization Offices Behind the stairs, a bulletin board describes our study abroad programs. Facing the bulletin board, MAILROOM is to your right. Each student receives a PO Box number from this nationwide functioning post office. Student Services, including REGISTRAR, FINANCIAL AID and BURSAR are down the hall to your left. Turn around and exit through the double doors at the end, as you pass through notice the COPY CENTER on your right. Professors arrange for assignments and course supplements to be picked up at the copy center. CROWN COURT, the on campus cafeteria, is further down the hall next to the copy center. Crown Court serves salads, soups, pizzas and made‐to‐order sandwiches. Cash only, we do not offer meal plans. LECTURE HALLS are in the alcove on your left across from Crown Court. Lecture halls include smart boards which are computer interactive. Although laptops are not required, most students bring them to class.
Exit through double doors follow the brick path around the building, to your right. The BOOKSTORE is on your left, feel free to stop in and browse the textbooks and Widener Law products. POLISHOOK HALL is straight ahead, this is the one‐story X shaped building on the map.
Enter Polishook double doors. Offices for the Legal Education Institute, offering paralegal studies programs and University College, offer‐ ing undergraduate degrees, are to your right. To your left, towards the middle section, are the LAW JOUR‐ NAL suites. Widener Law Delaware offers three publications: Delaware Journal of Corporate Law, Widener Law Review, and Law Economics and Race. Additionally, there is a TV studio allowing interactive meetings for journal members.
Continue through the middle lounge area. Additional lecture halls are at the end of each wing.
Exit through main doors, beyond the center lounge Follow the brick path and take the first right. To your left is a stone building known as GEESEY HOUSE, this is the ALUMNI AND DEVELOPMENT area. We offer many opportunities to network with graduates, including a mentorship program. BARRISTERS CLUB is in the middle of campus behind the fountain. Barristers is a banquet space for special events and receptions. CONCORD COMMONS is in the last building on the left corner. This is our second dorm building which offers the same amenities as Shipley. SAFETY is also located here, they are available 24/7, issuing parking permits and student IDS.
Follow the brick path, past the flag pole, turning right. Enter the double door back entrance into the Main Law Building. This is the main hallway of the entire campus, the ALICE W. AND WALTER M. STRINE ATRIUM or “MAIN STREET”. During the first week of class, student organizations set up tables here for information and involvement. INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SERVICES (ITS) is to your right. They offer technical support and DELL discounts. Please visit law.widener.edu for more information. They also supervise the COMPUTER LAB to your left. One of our more popular STUDENT LOUNGE areas is directly across from the computer lab. Further down, GRADUATE AND COMPLIANCE PROGRAMS is through a hallway to your left. Widener Law’s nation‐ ally recognized graduate programs in corporate and health law offer specialized study for accomplished professionals who want to enhance their careers. LECTURE HALLS are further down towards your right. The CAREER DEVELOPMENT center is through to your right before the stairs. Career counselors can assist you in resume editing, interviewing skills or general guidance. Recruitment for jobs and internships occurs both on and off campus. The stairs straight ahead lead you back to the main entrance, Admissions and Moot Court Room. We hope you enjoyed Widener Law!
