This has been the longest year, like, EVAAAAARR.
In fact, last summer it seemed like we were all so stressed
out from 2020 that we kinda didn't even have much of a summer "off." But NOW we are at the end of the second part of the Year That Just Won't Stop. 2019-2021. So, here's to US. We made it. I'm not in the classroom nowadays, but I have been watching and working closely with teachers, and I can say with 110% certainty, THAT was one for the DUSTBIN.

WHY is Louisa May Alcott on the cover of this magazine? Good question. It actually has to do with sloths. So, as a kid, I loved Little Women (the book) so much. I still think about it almost every day. And I know most of the episodes by absolute heart. Because I read that book into the ground. Literally, I went through three copies. And while I was thinking about HOW MUCH SLOTH I want for teachers this summer, I remembered the part of the book where the sisters - in June - all decide that they are going to do absolutely nothing for an entire week. And, so here's a one page summary of what happens. Warning: It's a little moralistic because, after all, sloth is technically a sin. However, there's, in my mind, a difference between lazy, sinful, harmful, BAD sloth...and...
d o o g sloth
You know, the kind of sloth you deserve after basically teaching your way through a fog of incompetence, disrespect, and confusion for the last couple decades. NOT TO MENTION the pandemic on top of that! Whew, Teach, I dare say, you deserve some sloth. In fact, it's probably imperative for your health that you get slothy

Sunday
On Monday, it's all fun and games. Almost. Nothing's perfect, right?
On Tuesday, people start getting a little bored. But no one wants to call it quits, so they just pretend they LIKE being bored. By Wednesday, the bloom's off the rose, but no one wants to be the first to say, "Uncle."
So, Thursday rolls around, and everyone's in a royal snit. But their mom just watches and does all the work, and laughs. ON THE INSIDE. Like parents DO. Cause they're NICE. TGIF. NOT REALLY, THOUGH. By Saturday, it's like The War Between the States Two around there. (That's the nineteenth century equivalent of "World War Three.") By Sunday, everyone's learned their lesson. All play and no work makes them really testy. Those 19th century kiddie lit writers liked to serve up some MORALS of the STORY, for sure.
Usually, for teachers, it goes more like THIS. Monday
Current Mood: REALLY HAPPY. Any Monday that is not the start of another school week, I'LL TAKE IT.
Tuesday
Wednesday
Current Mood: REALLY HAPPY. It's sinking in that I don't have to go back to school for NINE WEEKS.
Current Mood: REALLY HAPPY. Weather report is that a blissful haze will be moving in about 5:00 PM.
Thursd ay
Current Mood: REALLY HAPPY. This is the look of a person that has done EXACTLY WHAT THEY WANTED TO with their mind all day long.
Friday
Current Mood: REALLY HAPPY. Maybe SLIGHTLY disappointed that Friday doesn't mean anything if you did not work all week...SMALL PRICE TO PAY!

Current Mood: REALLY HAPPY. Amazing how much more relaxing weekends are when preceded and followed by a week off!
Sunday
Current Mood: REALLY HAPPY. Day of rest, more like season of rest, amirite? * *

Life goal accomplished. Drinking a a beverage with an umbrella in it, UNDER an umbrella. Myself, that surfboard would be used for a nap, but that's just me, maybe. OH NO! I have to go home so I have to eat ALL THE THINGS again!! That was so relaxing! Where can we go on the next break?
