Winter sports are fun! They are played on snow or ice. They can be a competitive sport or a noncompetitive recreation activity. 1


Snow is fun for everyone. It is the best part of winter if you live in a cold climate. Snow provides us with a way to play many sports. 2


In the winter, snowboarding is a way to enjoy the snow. There is special gear to use when snowboarding. 3


Snowboarding can be for recreation or a competitive sport. It is part of the Winter Olympics, where many countries compete. 4


Snowboarding began in the U.S. in 1960. It became a Winter Olympic event in 1998.

In the winter, curling is fun. It is played by sliding stones and sweeping with a curling broom to help the stone move faster. 19


Curling is an Olympic sport. In France, at the 1924 Olympics, the first medals for curling were awarded. 20


Curling began in Scotland. It is one of the oldest team sports. It was first played on frozen ponds. Now it is played inside on frozen courts. 21
