Lynne Fisher, of Cliverton, warned that stripping back cover to the minimum could potentially jeopardise their financial futures.

“Threats to livelihoods can and do happen, and to simply hope they won’t happen to you is not the best policy. It is the cover for important extras, such as property damage, business interruption and professional indemnity, that makes for truly comprehensive protection.”

Fisher cited legal expenses as a typical example how short-term savings can have a negative financial impact in the long term. “For around £28 per annum, this covers legal representation, should it be needed.

“People usually buy it for the first year they take out a policy, but because they didn’t need to make a claim, they don’t consider it a necessity on renewal. Without it, however, they could face a heavy financial burden should they become involved in a lengthy dispute or legal case.” or killed by adult dogs.
