one in seven people worldwide is affected by a neglected tropical disease. learn more with us. GAMAMORSE 2014 (Gadjah Mada Medical Summer Course) is an annual project of CIMSA UGM that invites international medical students from around the world to have a summer course in Indonesia, specifically Yogyakarta. It will be held on August 3rd - 14th 2014. The main course will be held at UGM Faculty of Medicine, but there are also some social programs held all around Yogyakarta.
glected tropical disease • Disease prevention and control towards infectious and neglected tropical disease The teaching method includes lectures from experts, tutorials, practical sessions, field trips, case studies, direct interactions with the community, live in and of course social programs to introduce what we have in Indonesia and specifically Yogyakarta.
The main theme of GAMAMORSE 2014 is Infectious and Neglected Tropical Diseases. We chose this theme because not all countries in the world focus on tropical diseases nor have they experienced it, and Indonesia is a tropical country with a lot of experience in tropical disease. The topics in this course include: • NTDs • Tuberculosis • Malaria • Dengue fever • Soil transmitted helminthes • Immune responses to viral, bacterial and parasites infection • Social determinants of infectious and ne-
The main goal for this course, besides to increase the knowledge of the participants about infectious and neglected tropical diseases, is also to introduce Indonesia in general and Yogyakarta in specific, because Yogyakarta with its rich culture is very interesting to be known internationally. The other important point that we present is that we will encourage the participants to interact directly with the community and its culture, because it is the most effective way to know the condition and culture of our country in relation with our theme.

IPE Nusantara IPE Nusantara was a program called mini HPEQ done by SCOME CIMSA in 20132014. This program was started by CIMSA UNAND who made Mini HPEQ on a smaller scale. With this concept then we upscaled the project to become a nationally held project. Then CIMSA suggested to HPEQ to take over this program, and finally the HPEQ Student and HPEQ Project DIKTI welcomed the suggestion. Now Mini HPEQ is the focus of the HPEQ Student in 2014 and the name is now changed to IPE, short for Interprofessional Education, with the hope that this activity can bring positive impact on Indonesia. With the big theme of Interprofessional Education, IPE Nusantara’s goal is to raise the awareness of students and the stakeholders about the importance of IPE, which is heralded by WHO as one of the ways to improve global health. In the end, we hope that Indonesia can have a well structured Interprofessional Curriculum that can be implemented in all universities which have more than one health discipline. We will do the following activities: 1. In-House Training for Advocacy and IPE, which was held in Yogyakarta, 29-30th of March 2014 and was attended by the Regional Coordinator. 2. Seminar and Workshop of IPE, which will be held in 9 cities that will be decided later. The regions are: No. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9.

L
ocal CIMSA Duta Wacana Christian University held Indonesia Disease Today (IDT) 2014which is an annual national project of SCOPH. IDT is a community based project where we reach out to the social determinants on health through society. This year, IDT choose Tuberculosis as its theme. The event was held on 11 – 13 April 2014 at DesaRengireng, Bambanglipuro, Bantul, Special District of Yogyakarta. Tuberculosis chosen as this year’s theme because in Yogyakarta people awareness of this disease is still low but the incidence of the disease is quite high. Not only the awareness, people also lacking knowledge of this disease. Based on that, we need to promote awareness and knowledge about Tuberculosis, so that the prevalence of the disease could be reduced. To achieve that goal, every parties need to contribute and take responsibility in this issues.
“As a medical student who eventually will become pioneer in primary health service, we should take action and contribute to help solving the issue. By giving education, promotion, and health service to community, we build their awareness toward Tuberculosis. When their knowledge is at the proper level, they can take the appropriate action regarding the disease and become agent of change to build a healthy Indonesia.”

TB… Siapa Takut?! Participants were given lecture about Tuberculosis, and because this event took place in Yogyakarta where the people still talk in their traditional language, participants were also given training about how to speak Javanese. The lecture is given by pulmonologist from Balai Pengobatan Penyakit Paru-Paru/BP4 (Pulmonary disease hospital) Yogyakarta. The main thing about this event is, participants will have a “live in” to analyze the community life style and define the factors that play roles in causing the disease. The observation result will be discussed with other participant led by representation from Ministry of Health. To know more how tuberculosis handled in the field, study tour to BP4 was also held. At BP4, participant could observe on how to do anamnesis and interpret lab result, e.g x-ray analysis and sputum analysis, treatment, and education. Beside educating medical student about specific topic, the other purpose of this event is to unite every local of SCOPH CIMSA in Indonesia. For this purpose, every local must perform a unique culture from their hometown in Pensi (Performing Arts). As a closure for the show all participant released flying lantern at Goa Cemara Beach. After that, participants were invited to watch traditional performance from Java, Wayang. Wayang was held to preserve culture of Indonesia. This puppet or wayang show contain education about tuberculosis. Participants watched the show along with local people. With wayang as an educational media, we are hoping it will be easier for the local people to understand about Tuberculosis. The project was closed with charity event such as free treatment and low-cost market. In free treatment, the local people could get free medication by one hundred coupon that given to them. Participants also invited to get involved with doing anamnesis and measuring blood pressure, before the patient will be taken care of doctor on duty. In low-cost market, they could buy groceries at a cheap price. And last but not least, our National Project Officer (NPO), Zahra Mustavavi, gave her speech to formally close the project. It was really an unforgettable project. See you guys at IDT 2015!

Upcoming Meeting: OM CIMSA UGM
A
s one of the six founders of CIMSA, the Faculty of Medicine Universitas Gadjah Mada has contributed dearly to the upbringing of CIMSA. We have brought to life countless projects and activities that have helped to promote better health in communities nationwide. This has placed CIMSA UGM as one of the top runners in the efforts of empowering medical students for the nation’s health. CIMSA UGM has also given rise to countless numbers of officials who have each contributed in shaping CIMSA’s growth. Having the meeting located in the famous, delicate, and special region of Yogyakarta known well as the “kota pelajar”, the tourism found here makes us an undeniable host for this October Meeting. Focusing the meeting in a tranquil escape, far from city hustle, we can still feel the heritage and culture of Yogyakarta overflowing the atmosphere. One thing that can be noted here is that we will provide you with a more natural approach which you will not be able to find in the crowd of the city nor any of the other bidding universities. For us CIMSA UGM, October Meeting plays a crucial role in strengthening the bond among CIMSA members, especially the establishment of the new national and local official committees. It is a big honor
11
for us, CIMSA UGM, to be able to become the organizer for such a prestigious event as we will welcome you with the warmness of Yogyakarta, the special district of Indonesia. We offer you the gorgeousness of Yogyakarta’s traditional culture through dances, culinaries, social program and many others that you can only find in Yogyakarta. Powered with high enthusiasm, experiences and also expert supervision, we believe that we are more than capable of hosting and handling this event. We will give our very best to ensure that this event, the 2014 October Meeting, will be one that you will always hold dear in your hearts and minds. For those reasons, we, CIMSA UGM, are ready to host 2014 October Meeting and we hope for your sincereness to let us be given this great honour.
What is the importance of training sessions?
Why do we need trainings?
Training is a History. by Dereisha Kartika Puspitasari

1. The October Meeting (OM)
asically, CIMSA is an activity-based organization. We are making actions together to empower medical students and improve the nations’ health, which are our main missions. Who runs the activities? There’s no one else, but our members. High quality activities come from high quality members. In addition, great members come from great training sessions. Thus, the training sessions are believed as one particular way needed in developing CIMSA’s activities.
Our aim were making CIMSA’s members understood how to start a community development action and developing leadership capacity in our members. The outcome, hopefully, were that every member could build a good relationship with community and could know the basic principles of a community development.
2. The National Leadership Summit (NLS) After the OM, we started developing communities. In this process, we would be challenged by many obstacles. All we needed, however, were surviving and continuing our actions. We provided a list of soft skills that necessary to maintain the community development. There were 2 training classes with 4 training sessions each to make our members survive in facing the challenges.
CIMSA Training Sessions are naturally everywhere. Anyone can get them in local, national, and even international basis. We regulate the Basic Training Sessions to be provided by local committees for the newcomers. Through the Basic Training Sessions, which are done for a year, we mold strong characters for each member. The characters to keep our members survive for the rest of their years in this organization.
3. The May Meeting (MM)
As the local committees go with the Basic Training Sessions, we also organize national-basic Training Sessions through our national meetings. There are three national meetings annually, namely May Meeting, October Meeting, and National Leadership Summit (which is held on February), that have continuous and synergistic Training Sessions in each meeting.
It was time to prepare for CIMSA’s next generation and create some innovations. The training sessions would be applied in the local committees as well. The materials were a list of trainings needed to get our members prepared not only to be active in CIMSA’s activities but also competent to develop and keep the organization moving forward.
This year, we are focusing our activities on Community Development Actions. Therefore, the members needed some specific skills to develop a community. Those skills were provided in each national meeting.
CIMSA National Meetings better be a historical starting point for each delegation to enhance their self-capacities. After becoming a great delegation, prepare yourself to make your own history in your local.

SJSN and Its Sustainability. S
istem Jaminan Sos- premiums are managed by ensure enough drug supply, ial Nasional or better BPJS and will be given to all because BPJS as the orga-
known as SJSN is managed by a health firm called Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Sosial (BPJS). SJSN itself is a noble program aimed at all people which guarantee universal health care whatever their background are, such as civil servants, members of the military, wage earners, and non-wage earners. With a base of health insurance, SJSN is a program that ensures the right of people of Indonesia to be healthy and to seek treatment without fear. Through this program, all the people will be protected from costs to be paid for the treatment, especially for the poor which most probably could not afford it with their own money. In its implementation, the SJSN service users will pay a monthly premium. Later,
the doctor depending on the number of manageable participants. In turn, these funds will be used for nursing services, purchase of consumables medicine, administration, charge of electric, water, telephone, and rent place. Social Security was established on the 1st of January 2014 and until today, SJSN still get a lot of complaints and constraints. As a result of the lack of socialization before it was established, SJSN makes many people still not ready to be invited unexpectedly to take care of the insurance-based health services. System administration is not ready yet but should be soon carried out, creating a domino effect of problems with adverse parties of patients and health care providers. Many hospitals are taking loans to the bank in order to
nizers have not payback the SJSN insurance health care costs of patients. Many doctors feel that due to cost of the SJSN system, they are forced to decrease the quality of services. The instruments of quality control, like it or not, should be the standard of medical care. This standard also simultaneously control the costs to fit the patient’s medical needs, rather than simply “liking” the doctor and the patient. Much remains to be studied in the sustainability of the Social Security system, and as the Medical Students’ of Indonesia, let us together study and guard this program so that the system does not degrade the quality of service and also giving fair compensation for the doctor.

and Be Creative”. This event was held in the hope of expanding the horizon of the teenagers about health issues by putting it into application through various works of art. Through this event, we expect the teenagers to be more aware about their health and give their contributions in order to achieve “Healthy Indonesia 2015 (Indonesia Sehat 2015)”.
This event was held for two days. On the first day, 8th of December 2013, the activities that took place are games and training. Both of the games and training had the same topic, which includes the danger of smoking, how to manage waste both organic and non-organic, physical activity, traditional games and simple science experiment. Meanwhile on the second day of the event, 22nd of December 2013, we held “Senam Kesehatan Jasmani” which is a form of an aerobic exercise, games, training and workshop on how to live a clean and healthy life (Pola Hidup Bersih Sehat), filling out questionnaires for the teenagers and it was topped off by the announcement of the winners of the games.

According to the results of the questionnaires, the event was thought to be useful for the people who reside in the area of community development, especially for the children who will be the next successors of the country. This program also received support and positive feedback from the head person of the area and women who are in charge of monitoring the families in the area (ibu PKK). They also had the commitment to keep in mind to respect and apply the values given by this program. The benefit of this program can be analyzed through questionnaires filled by the participants of this event and monitoring will be carried out in order to follow up the development of the children after the event took place.
Design of the Program
This program is a long-term program, where it is to be carried out annually. Monitoring will be carried out every year in order to know the development of the children until 2015.

An Inspiring Saturdate at Indonesia MDGs Award (IMA) 2013 Indonesia MDGs Awards (IMA) is an annual program from the President’s Special Envoy for Millennium Development Goals (Kantor Utusan Khusus Presiden RI untuk MDGs).Reflected by the title, IMA gives awards to people or groups executing best practices that contribute towards achieving MDGs in Indonesia. The award is open for a diverse group of backgrounds, including from governmental, non-governmental, private, and youth sectors.
T
his year’s event was the 3rd annual Indonesia MDGs Awards. This event tackles current issues from many sectors. Education, nutrition, maternal and child health, access to clean water and sanitation, prevention and management of HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases are some of them. With the theme ‘Shaping the Future’, IMA 2013 proposed a different concept compared to earlier events, which is the youth empowerment session called The Youth Forum, and the networking center called The Social Marketplace. The Youth Forum consisted of presentations, debates and talkshows in which the most prominent and inspirational speakers such as Basuki Tjahja Purnama (Vice Governor of DKI Jakarta), Tri Rismaharani (Mayor of Surabaya), Indra Sjafri (Coach of Indonesian U-19 Football Team), Angga Dwi Martha (Youth Advocate for United Nations in Indonesia) and many more came to share their experiences. The forum officially started with the opening speech given by Prof. Nila Djuwita Moeloek (the head of KUKPRIMDGs) herself. She emphasized the importance of Indonesian youth in shaping Indonesia’s future towards better development. The most memorable moment of the opening ceremony was when she proved her youthful vigor by tweeting her very first tweet:
@NilaMoeloek: Membuka #IMAYouth Forum di Djakarta Theater, di antara kaum muda yg siap beraksi untuk negerinya! Maju terus, Pemuda..! The Youth Forum was divided into the following sessions: • Bureaucracy 2.0 • Let’s Innovate! • Creativity for Livelihood • From the Eyes of a Journalist: Writing the Facts • Through Sport, We Say: I Love Indonesia! • Entrepreneur or Socialpreneur? • Food for Thought • Development: Learning from the Pros
15
The Youth Forum proved to be very hip and youthoriented! How could it not be? The organizing committee continuously encouraged our social mediacrazed generation to tweet and update regarding the event. They even provided free wi-fi access at the venue accompanied with a double screen showing the live twitter updates under the hasthag #IMAYouth and #IMA2013! Bona of Indonesian Idol, acting as the master of ceremony, never endingly reminded the audience to share the words, pictures and thoughts that audiences heard, took and got in the Youth Forum. This creative method of using the power of social media to spread the news and the spirit was utterly brilliant and effective! Parallel with the Youth Forum, there was a Social Marketplace in which we are proud to say that CIMSA was the only national medical student organization that had been given the chance to open a booth and promote our MDGs-related activities. We were even granted with the best spot there, which was the first booth that all participants saw near the registration place. The Social Marketplace was also attended by booths from HAI! magazine, Indonesia Medika, Lapor UKP4, Change.org, ODHA/AYO, PendidikanPolitik, Coding Indonesia, Interfaith, Pencerah Nusantara, and Indonesian Youth Diplomacy! There were many members of CIMSA that attended the event, mainly from Kaukus III (UI, UIN, and UPH) led by Yehezkiel Nathanael (VPE 2013-2014) and Denisa Widyaputri as the Person-In-Charge of CIMSA’s Booth in IMA 2013. All CIMSA members were eager and excited to explain CIMSA, especially about CIMSA’s MDGs Months 2013 to those curious heads who came to our booth. There were many people from other youth organizations, health institutions, NGOs and media who were interested about us, filling up our guestbook pretty quickly. Our very own Christopher Christian (SC 2013-2014) and Yehezkiel even got the chance to promote CIMSA to Mr. Basuki
Tjahja Purnama amidst the crowd that surrounded him! IMA 2013 was held on Saturday, 15th March 2014 at The Djakarta Theater from 9.30 am-5.30 pm for the Youth Forum and the Social Marketplace, followed by the traditional awarding night from 7.00 pm.And no, your eyes have not deceived you. It’s called IMA 2013 because the award is given to the projects held in 2013. Last year, our project was nominated for two categories in IMA 2012, unfortunately this year the odds were not in our favor. But hey! Now we’re fired up to win next year’s IMA Awards, aren’t we?
“Alone, we are just glass of water. Together, we are an ocean”. A quote from Angga Dwi Martha (Youth Advocate for United Nations in Indonesia) has inspired us youth who were present in the audience. We promised to connect, to spread the news and to empower each other, as Indonesian youth, so that Indonesia can be better. Because on our shoulders lies the future of our beloved country, we shouldn’t just sit and wait. We should be the change we want to see. Now is the prime time to step in and do our part. Well, that’s all from the CIMSA delegations of this year’s IMA event! Still curious about the awesomeness of IMA 2013? Check out our previous live tweets from @cimsanasional or @MDGAwards! Last but not least, we want to express our biggest form of gratitude to all CIMSA members and national officials who has supported this event and also visited our twinkling booth at IMA 2013! IFMSA rd 63 General Assembly March Meeting
Health Beyond 2015: Get Involved!
F
ive years after IFMSA March Meeting Tunisia 2009, the federation’s General Assembly once again took place in exactly the same city, Hammamet, and in the same venue, DiarLemdina Hotel, from 3rd to 9th March 2014. With the heavenly scenery of Mediterranean Sea just out of our window, ten Indonesian delegates savored the best of IFMSA General Assembly (GA) experience. The meeting commenced on March 3rd in DiarLemdina Hotel with hundreds of delegates from countries worldwide present. Invited to the opening ceremony was the president of World Medical Association (WMA), Dr. Margaret Mungherera. Based on my own perspective, dr. Margaret’s speech deserved to be in the spotlight. She told all participants the story of her medical school years back at her home in Ugan-
da. She used to wake upto the news that her lecturer was shot to death. However, despite all the stumbling blocks that she had to surmount, she made it to the top of the world. After such inspiring opening ceremony, Indonesian delegates were all pumped with energy to feast on amazing one week of GA moments. Rizki Meizikri, Head of Delegation, present to you brief story of each sessions in the GA. Josko Mise, the IFMSA president, announced the final result of Hammammet Resolution on Post 2015 Agenda in the final plenary session. The meeting adjourned right after, then the plenary room turned into one crowded dance floor. IFMSA danced that night, to mark the end of Tunisian time, and to start waiting for Taiwan 2014.

General Assembly SCO Sessions: SCORA
Kelly Thompson, Liaison Officer for Reproductive Health Including HIV/AIDS served a presentation about SCORA’s external representation. Kelly kept SCORAngels updated about Partnership of Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (PMNCH) and WHO Department of Maternal, Newborn Child, and Adolescent Health. This session also focused on maternal health, adolescent pregnancy, and safe abortion care. Sexual Health and Peer Education (SHAPE), a transnational project which aims to reduce the frequency of sexual transmitted infection and unwanted pregnancies, was also discussed. The mission of this project is achieved through peer education, training of peer educators, and providing a structured lesson.
SCORP
SCORPions shared their opinions about mental health in this GA. SCORPions believe that stigma and prejudice to people with mental disorders should be abolished. Since health status of a person is strongly related with psychological and social aspect, our role as medical students are demanded in order to shape a stigma-free community. The issue itself is addressed in the IFMSA’s Hammamet Resolution on post-2015 agenda.
SCOME
Besides updates from its broad external relations, SCOMEdians were dazzled by dr. Erica Wheeler from WHO, who delivered a lecture about health workforce and how medical students can give contribution. SCOME also talked about the 5 different priorities in SCOME for this term (Non Formal Education, Student Rights & Wellness, Reproductive Health Education, Databases and Internal operations), and several awesome transnational projects as well.
SCOPH
SCOPH brought up discussion about Non Communicable Disease (NCD) in the GA. The NCD issue itself was presented further in the theme event by dr. Eugenio Villar from WHO and dr. Sandro Demaio from Harvard. Shift on burden of disease toward NCD has raised concerns from IFMSAians around the world that the issue was extensively discussed in the GA, and is mentioned in the Hammamet Resolution for post 2015 agenda. Besides NCD, SCOPHians also had SWGs on eating disorder and agreed to make a Transnational Project about it.
SCOPE
SCOPE session can be very boring for them who are not keen on bylaws. Most SCOPE sessions talked about bylaws changes, and the rest was filled with small working groups (SWG) about current issues in SCOPE, such as contract problems with SCOPE candidate members and PDT manual. External updates related to SCOPE were presented by Ivana Di Salvo the LORMA. The best of SCOPE in this GA came from the exchange fair, in which NMOs promoted their exchange program through videos and pamphlets. As it has always been, exchange fair should not even be considered an exchange fair when there is no traditional food and drinks, fancy clothing, body painting, and flags, packed in one set of entertainment in an overpopulated noisy room.
SCORE
SCORE introduced the newest addition to SCORE Academic Quality tool, The SCORE Universal Logbook. The book was presented, and included in the SCORE bylaws as a mandatory document for all incoming students to have, one new and improved tool for all NMOs to use and assure the academic quality of Research Exchanges. Workshops were also presented. The topics are Communication in SCORE, Team building & Leadership, Organizing GAP, How to approach tutors, Organizing SRT, Social Program, Incomings – they’ll pay you to stay longer, and The SCORE Logbook – not just a waste of paper!
