And dont forget to always be active with CIMSA! As same as our may meeting theme, the issue of this period is about “Medical Students’ Contribution beyond 2015 : Managing Sustainable Activities through Strategic Planning”. We do have a lot of plan on our thoughts, but have you found the best way to pack or represent it? By finding a strategic planning to our ideas or thoughts, it will bring a positive impact to our community yet we haven’t done any. On this issue, we’d also like to represent the SCOPE CIMSA’s best moments throughout the year. And also we give you a challange to fill the blank out of crossword puzzles and justify how far your knowledge as a member about CIMSA especially SCOPE. Lastly, we hope that all of you feel satisfied enough about our Periscope so far and we hope that periscope always be the magazine you’re craving for . Dearest SCOPEople,
W
e are very happy to share with you our last edition of PERISCOPE for this term. PERISCOPE has contributed so much in sharing with all of us about informations and updates on SCOPE-related topics as well as medical issues. We hope that you enjoyed all of our editions. A year has passed since we were given the opportunity to start a new journey with you. A year to improve SCOPE CIMSA in every aspect. A year of amazing opportunities. A year that has given us a chance to become a better person. A year of unforgettable experiences. A year of laughter and tears. A year that might be forgotten by some people, but we will always be remembered. A year that we just can not stop telling you how great it was. Sadly, nothing last forever. Everything has to end in some points. But the battle will never stop, so here along with our last, but not least, PeriSCOPE, we bring out Medical Students’ Contribution Beyond 2015: Managing Sustainable Activities Through Strategic Planning. This will remind us well that the work we have been initiated will leave us nothing more than just sweats and tears unless we keep it sustain through strategic planning until we achieve the goals we’ve set and give real impact on society. On the behalf of National Exchange Committee SCOPE CIMSA 2014-2015 we would like to thank LEOs and SCOPEople where ever you are. Thank you for your contributions and hard works for SCOPE. We could not imagine not having you all (by thinking of it, it gives us chills). A new beginning will start soon. We believe that our successors will do their best for SCOPE. P-L-A-N-T: Strategic Planning for Managing Sustainable Development
A
by: Debora Roselita Karo Sekali debora.rose@yahoo.com SCOPE Universitas Indonesia
s the 4th most populous country on the earth, in 2014, population of Indonesia was estimated over 252 million. Over a quarter of total population are youth aged 16-30. These young people bring a huge impact on health survey in Indonesia. Therefore, if many young people are not healthy, the health and well-being level of Indonesian citizen will go down rapidly. In contrast, when they are healthy, they bring an enormous impact of health survey and bring it up. In addition, young people especially us as medical students, the future health leaders, altogether can make greater change by planning and managing activities related to health problems. Unfortunately, young people still not aware of their power. They still think that they are not needed by community. That perception is totally wrong. Young people are major resources for developments, key agents for social changes, economic developments, and technological developments. As medical students, we have knowledge about health and we are re-

PERISCOPE 4TH EDITION VOL. 3 | JUNE - SEPT 2015
sponsible to share our knowledge about health to surrounding community. We can make an action to educate people to improve their health quality. The questions are what can we do and how can we do such actions when we are still medical students. P-L-A-N-T, a strategic planning for managing sustainable activities. P = Problem identification The aim of problem identification is to know what aspect of health we want to develop in that area to make it more sustainable. Look around and find real problems of health in your area. We should choose the most concerning and recognizing one. L = Look for more information for the problem Analyse the problem and find a way to solve the problem such as how to prevent problem and how to lower the incidence rate of it. Contact the leader of the area to look further for more informations about the problem in that area. A = Action planning The hardest part of making sus-
tainable development is planning the action. Use 5W+1H (who, where, when, what, why, and how). Plan the action by choosing subjects as the targets of your action. Next, survey the places where we want to do the action. Make sure many people can see our action and also contribute in it. Then, look for the best to do the action. Plan what action you want to do to solve the problem. The action should be useful, simple, and interesting. More importantly, think about sustainability of the process, define the sustainability as a new goal that the action must accomplish, and specify the contribution of each alternative of the action in order to choose the best solution. Plan how many people you need to contribute in the action and explain their roles in it. Every member should be able to explain why the action is important. Don’t forget to make a target achievement for each action you’ve made. Plan how much money you need to initiate the action from beginning to end. Last but not least, plan how long the action will be. N = Now, it’s time to act
Check each preparation from the start. Don’t forget to publish your action and invite all people to join your action. “Action. It is always your next move” – Napoleon Hill. After it finished, plan when do you want to evaluate your action and target achievement. T = Target evaluation Make sure each member of your team do self reflection and also evaluate the group. What is good, what is bad, what should be maintained, what should be fixed. Next, evaluate the project, does it work as it has planned before, are the target and purpose of the action also achieved as it has planned before. After that, find next target and look for other ways in order to fulfil the target. Next, plan the project and follow P-L-A-N-T steps all over again. Plant, a symbol of believing in tomorrow. “Always do your best, what you plant now, you will harvest later”. Dealing with sustainability is a complex multistakeholder problem that actually must be addressed by different organizational levels. Therefore, we need to clarify each stakeholder, community, and our group to be
ensured to comply with sustainability efforts. Best planning and efforts comes from a group of people with same vision to make greater change in a community. One is never enough to make change but when we join student organizations that have same vision to find a solution together and make movement continuously, the enormous change will be seen. Who are the 'Terrorists' Now?
by: Fadhli Rizal Makarim mekki.life@gmail.com SCOPE UNISSULA
Terrorist//A person who uses unauthorized of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of some aims. No, we are not talking about some “real” terrorists that attack our country last moment. But this, quite more complicated than the real terrorist we know.
by the end of 2015. The maternal mortality rate per a thousand delivery is still on 359 while the target is 102 and it’s still far enough from the target that has been planned back in 2000. On the other hand, the maternal mortality rate had increased in 2012. And also, the HIV/AIDS prevalence has increased to 0,41% from total population.
And since we’re talking about this, I don’t mean to SUGGEST yourself to join ISIS, or something like that. But if you move your feet, arms, and use your brain after this, that means you have the same willing to make a better Indonesia. --
I
t’s 2015 already, and it has been 5 months in, yet none of us wonder how’s MDGs program going. And I’m pretty sure, as a medical student, when people ask “Do you know about Indonesia’s MDGs program lately? How’s the maternal mortality number? How’s the progress in our city? Is it much better?” You will absolutely take a back step, take a moment to think about it, and googling for a while. Are there any answers like you’ve expected? “Yes, it works like it has been planned, and it’s much better in years.” Well, that’s a quite diplomatic answer for this. Now let’s see the truth : From the data of MDGs in 2012, the newborn mortality lately is still on 32 while the target is 23. It still needs a special concern if we want to get the target
8
PERISCOPE 4TH EDITION VOL. 3 | JUNE - SEPT 2015
There’re many ways that has been encouraged by the government, although all of these ways succeeded in many aspects of MDGs, but there’re still need some improvements in other aspects. Maybe the data that I have showed you above, doesn’t make you feel any goosebump, or it doesn’t make you feel to cry. But, if you are in the place that got the worst MDGs score, I’m sure that you’re not gonna like this way. How it is possible to you to feel nothing’s going on when you let the patient dies, within the low facilities, not too much health workers, and so on. Or when you really see how’s the MDGs program being achieved? And you will know who exactly is the threat to our own society. Is it us as the health workers? I would like to say no, but it is.
We’re the terrorist in our rice fields! But, what can we do as a medical student? Even we’re still unworthy enough to use our stethoscope on the patient. But, maybe some little things here could make you be a better medical student. Educating the people There’s a moment when my lecturer said, “What could you possibly do as a co-assistant here? You couldn’t give a diagnosis moreover a therapy. But I am pretty sure that all of you could give an education, and if it had done in the right way, it’s not only one patient you could save, but more!” It’s a word which makes me really think that I had missed a lot of chance to save patients by giving an education. And I’m pretty sure, any types of medical students, would have no difficulties on this.
No wonder, the newborn and mortality rate are related to lowly educated mother. By giving an education to every single mother, we could save 2 lives (assuming that each mother has two children). So how many lives that you could missed by not giving an education? Come on, that’s the simplest thing that we can do. Importance of young people in influencing good habits ! Gosh, I really like this part! How we could say no to youths who promote a good thing? Yes! It’s our advantage as a youth. Where everything we do are being watched, every act is being imitated.
rus on CFD which was initiated by some youths could affect every single aspects of the society? Who ever thought that 5 kilos running around the city at night which was spread by some youths in social media, now it’s being followed by not only other youths but also by middle-aged and also not-thattoo-young people! This is what I mean, we don’t need trend, we need a change of the bad habits to a good one. Now let’s think together, if there are a lot of youths who has brought this good habits and bring it to all over Indonesia? It’s possibly making everything much easier. Mass people movement at its best ! It’s still fresh on our mind how to do a flash mob which is followed by hundreds of people without any objections and followed by happy feelings. Or how we make a petition which is being signed by thousands of people on change.org. This is actually what we hope, how we could give positive persuasions to people and make a big move for goodness. Seeing a thousand of people do a good thing or at least give a positive impact to the others. If we could direct every mass movement to health, imagine the change after that. And I think it’s the highest achievement by initiating “Health for All”. Yep, I think that’s a few from many that all we can do as a medical students to give a contribution to make a better Indonesia after 2015. Uh but, is it only students who could think as perfectionists as it comes? By graduating as a doctor, we will be busy as it is supposed to be and focus on being a terrorist on our own fields? Uhh! I hope we all have our heart for it. Fin. Sources. 1. Laporan Pencapaian Pembangunan Millennium di Indonesia 2013 2. www.worldwewant2015.org 3. www.who.int

ealth occupies center stage in the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). In 2000 the global community made a historic commitment: to eradicate extreme poverty and improve the health and welfare of the world’s poorest people within 15 years. The commitment was set forth in the Millennium Declaration which was signed by 189 countries. Derived from it are eight time-bound goals, known as the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The 8 Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) set to be achieved by 2015. Four of them are focused on health, as stated below. 1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger 2. Reduce child mortality 3. Improve maternal health 4. Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases Health makes a contribution to the achievement of all the other goals, particularly those related to the eradication of extreme poverty and hunger, education, and gender equality. Education makes a significant contribution to improved health; the education of women has significant effect on reducing under five mortalities. So, what can we, as medical students, do, to contribute in order to achieve the goals?
10
PERISCOPE 4TH EDITION VOL. 3 | JUNE - SEPT 2015
A Universitas 21 Health Sciences UNMDG Project was announced in October 2007, led by the University of British Columbia, Technologie de Monterrey and Hong Kong University. The Universitas 21 Health Sciences Project aims to address the MDGs by designing a relevant training module, to be incorporated into the curriculum of health science training institutions around the world. Each academic institution would adjust the training module according to their requirements to send a generation of health science graduates aware and competent to take on the MDGs throughout. Goal 1: Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger Target 2: To halve, between 1990 and 2015, the proportion of people who suffer from hunger. Indicator 4: Prevalence of underweight children under five years old. There are many innovative ways to achieve this goal. One of which is by providing fund for the poor families to start up with a small business. This can be done by investing small amount of money from each one of us to a nonprofit organization whose focused is for social aid. From this, the collected donations could be distributed to the needed
families to encourage them to set up a small business. It is important for us to make sure that the fund is properly spent. Goal 4: Reduce child mortality Target 5: Reduce by two thirds, between 1990 and 2015, the under-five mortality rate Indicator 13: Under-five mortality rate. Sustaining the momentum on newborn survival requires a renewed effort to build strong health services to provide high quality prenatal care, skilled birth attendants, postnatal care for babies and mothers as well as other cost-effective interventions. In Zambia and Uganda, safe deliveries in health facilities have been promoted through the training of hundreds of health workers in emergency obstetric and newborn care, along with the availability of essential supplies and equipment for the treatment of postpartum haemorrhage and eclampsia. Goal 5: Improve maternal health Target 6: To reduce by three quarters, between 1990-2015, the maternal mortality ratio. Indicator 16: Maternal Mortality ratio The major direct causes of maternal morbidity and mortality include haemorrhage, infection, high blood pressure, unsafe abortion, and obstructed labour. These complications may arise unexpectedly. Investing in health systems-especially in training midwives and medical students and in making emergency obstetric care available round-the-clock is key to reducing maternal mortality. Goal 6: Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases Target 7. Have halted by 2015 and begun to reverse the spread of HIV/AIDS.
vices have helped millions of people to learn their HIV status and for those who tested positive, they learn about options for long-term care and treatment. In 2012, WHO estimated that 118 million people in 124 low-and middle-income countries received HIV testing and counseling in the past 12 months and learnt heir test result. The rapid tests can be performed with a finger-prick blood sample collected and processed by a trained community worker and can be conducted outside of health facilities and traditional testing sites. Use of more than one rapid test can provide immediate, on-site confirmation of test results. We can introduce this service start in our campus by inviting and cooperating with the trained community workers and after enough trainings, we can spread out to several locations, especially villages, and practice this service and counseling. Health should remain an integral part of the post-2015 development framework, both as a right in itself and as a contributor to other development sectors. The new framework should be universal in scope and address the root causes of poverty and structural power imbalances. Reducing health inequities must be an explicit outcome. Comprehensive approaches that address the underlying determinants of health are required. There must be a broad participation in the monitoring of the new agenda, clear financing and governance mechanisms to oversee implementation. We, as medical students, play an important role as contributors and active participators in these plannings. References : 1. WHO discussion paper. IMPLEMENTING A SUSTAINABLE ACTIVITY THROUGH ‘SCHOOL OF HEALTH PROMOTION FOR YOUTH’

ealthiness is a basic need for every single person. Having a good health is important for one’s social, economy, and individual growth. That’s why, health can be viewed as a source of life, not only as an aspect of it.To have a fulfilling healthy life, we need all these things below: • Peace • Protection • Education • Food • Income • Stable ecosystem • Social equality • Continued income source From all those points above, we can see that one of them is education. Now we’re going to discuss how important health education is through promotion. Health promotion is a process which enables people to control their own health and for them to help solving health-related issues around them. Health promotion itself focuses to achieve the same quality of healthiness in community. Besides having the goal of
12
PERISCOPE 4TH EDITION VOL. 3 | JUNE - SEPT 2015
decreasing the gap in social status, it can also help to make sure every individual has the same rights to get their health services. Health promotion needs to be supported by a condusive environment, good information access, and wise policy. As we know, Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) is already in its time-limit this year and there will be a Post 2015-Development Agenda as the continuation of it. Three development points from MDGswill become one in APP 2015 which is Ensure healthy lives, referrencing to the availability of health services to all layers of community (Universal Health Coverage). As Indonesian medical students, we need to contribute in creating an assurance of health in our society, where our society is not only having an easy and the best health services but also aware of the health issue and introspect themselves in having a healthy lifstyle and environment. To have an introspection to themselves, we should do the health promotion. And do you know who is the main focus on health promotion itself? Yes, the health promotion should be focused on students who are still on elementary school, junior high school,
and senior high school. Why is it so? Because, all of them is the candidates for future generation and if they have a healthy lifestyle started in their young age, they could convey the healthy lifestyle to their ancestry. And to do those health promotions, we can do an agreement with many schools in different areas, especially in Indonesia, to make a joint project which is ‘School of Health Promotion for Youth.’ This program actually has already been established by WHO since 1995. However, in Indonesia it’s still dormant and there are no consistent promotion about it. For that, we need to continue the program and to expand its promotion by producing new promotion ideas for it. The topic in health promotion later will still have reference to ‘Reduce child mortality, Improve maternal health, and Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases’ which already have been MDGs’ development goals. This School of Health Promotion can be done outside of academic hours in each school frequently. Preferably every week. We can also use the weekend to give the health lectures. And not only that, the
students can also share their own experiences about their own environment and lifestyle, and give new ideas about whatever things that should be done to stay healthy together with their friends. It’s not only when the school of health promotion is being held but also it can be delivered to the environment and people around them. Besides that, we can also research on how far the students would go to attain this healthy lifestyle. This can be a standard for us as the person who give health lectures so we can focus on the things which have already been done and which haven’t. If this promotion can be done continuously, I’m sure it can help to achieve those development goals in APP 2015 ‘Program Indonesia Sehat.’ And no less important, we can also fulfill CIMSA’S main mission, the one and only: ‘Empowering Medical Students’ and Improving Nation’s Health.’ References:

I am pretty sure that we have already known where Canada is. Canada occupies most of the continent of North America, sharing land borders with the contiguous United States to the south (the longest border between two countries in the world) and the US state of Alaska to the northwest. The official language is English while they have French as the alternate language. How about the terms and conditions of the clerkship? Here we go!!

There’re 3 things which you have to bring during your clerkship; stethoscope, white coat, and reflex hammer. And also, it’s a must to wear a formal clothes while you’re doing your clerkship. It’s clear enough that you need to speak English fluently and know English medical terminology if you wanna go exchange to Canada. The LC has the right to cancel the exchange at any moment if they find that you unable speak English effectively. And also the students must be in their final year. If it’s not, the LC won’t accept you. So be prepared guys!
First of all, I would like to inform you that there are 13 cities and more 50 departments available to do your exchange program . So, choose the city and de-

If you are interested in doing or seeing in the city you are placed in, just ask the LEOs. For the details go check ifmsa.org. If you choose Vancouver as your clerkship destination, there are some cool places that you should go. Vancouver is a capital city of British Columbia province and one of the most famous city in Canada. The place that you should visit is Capilano Suspension Bridge park. From its name, we know that there is a suspension bridge at this park. The suspension bridge is pretty long, it’s about 137 meters and 70 meters above the Capilano river. And don’t be afraid to walk on this bridge, cause it’s totally save and it has amazing view of West
Coast rainforest and the Capilano river. It’s totally worth it. Besides the bridge, this park also has a cliffwalk. This heart-stopping cliffside journey takes you through rainforest vegetation on a series of unobtrusive cantilevered and suspended walkways jutting out from the granite cliff above Capilano river to previously unexplored areas of the park. In addition, there are lots of activities that you can do at the park so you won’t feel bored sticking around there. There’s a tip for you if you wanna buy some gifts. Don’t be rushed when you want some gifts. You can find a lot of small shops at the downtown. The small shops offer cheaper price rather than a big one. So, just take your time on deciding the things that you wanna buy. And don’t forget to buy maple syrup, it’s a must thing to buy before you go back to Indonesia. Au revoir!!

VNE – Sefrina Trisadi Being a part of NEC 20142015 is something I’ll always be thankful for. I learned a lot on exploring external SCOPE with NEC and external team of CIMSA. To communicate with lots of people and be able to help SCOPE CIMSA in expanding its external relations will always be my honor. What I got during one year working as Vice NEO for External Affairs was truly beyond my expectations. With this message, I would like to encourage all SCOPEOPLE to apply for the next National Exchange Committee. I believe you will experience a remarkable moment because NEC is the place where you work as a team and gather as a family.

PERISCOPE 4TH EDITION VOL. 3 | JUNE - SEPT 2015
SECRETARY – Farah Ardinda Being a Secretary of NEC was one of my biggest milestones in my life that brought me to up & down experiences. Your phone and laptop will be your 24/7 soulmate because you’ll never know when NECs or LEOs will ask you to help them making letters. But I can guarantee, those won’t lead you to sorrow! So, dare to be the one who make some letters to support our Outgoers to do their exchange? Making Internal Rules and SOP of SCOPE CIMSA? Helping other NECs and LEOs to do their administration things? Being a Secretary of NEC is the only answer to do them all!
TREASURER – Astrid Yuliana Being the Treasurer of SCOPE CIMSA is one of the most exciting things that I have ever done. What drove me into applying to this position was mainly the love I have for SCOPE. Given the opportunity to manage the income and outcome, to make friends and to maintain this connection I have with lots of people all over Indonesia and a lot more; this surely came with lots of responsibilities as well. Sure there were also difficulties, for example making reports, monthly meetings and allocating the money through busy college days, but I do enjoy all of it which makes it easier and more fun in getting the tasks done. And lastly, I would like to thank SCOPE for this amazing experience and all the support.
FNMC – Farah Mutiara First, I’d like to say THANK YOU SO MUCH for buying SCOPE merchandises. I hope they’ll make you guys love SCOPE more. I can say being a FnMC is challenging yet fun if you have motivation to raise money from selling merchandises or from sponsorship. That was my motivation from the beginning when I applied as FnMC NEC SCOPE last year. As a FnMC, you’ll work with other FnMC SCO, Local, and will be directed by FnMD. So, don’t worry about getting lost cause they will help you through hard times :”) I hope SCOPE CIMSA will be better and bring more good impact to our nation’s health. MCC – Fahmi Kurniawan
PC – Raden Agara Haryo Perdana Putra Becoming a Project Coordinator is fun! You are the one who summarizes the SCOPE projects all over Indonesia, monitors and evaluates the projects, knows every aspect of projects, shares and innovates the SCOPE projects. I wanted to become a PC because I was inspired by CIMSA official and I want to be more active in SCOPE. I also like everything about project. The up for being a PC is having a new family in NEC. I love my job too. The down is when I lost my signal while having chat meeting. It was so annoying lol. I wish SCOPE will be better in every aspect. The project will be more innovative and creative. Don’t forget the comdev, I wish SCOPE has a project in comdev. That’s our homework. SCOPEOPLE ROCKZ!!!!!
MCC - Fahmi Kurniawan It was very fun yet professional to work in a place where I am passionate in. My motivation to apply for MCC was because I enjoy designing that much as well as I love SCOPE to the moon. These 365 days were one of the most challenging experience in my timeline. Making PeriSCOPE, helping NEO in preparing IFMSA Meetings, designing NEC needs, and being an administrator of SCOPE’s social media was my own pleasure. It became more fruitful because I had the most awesome team ever, Andi and Nadhila. I couldn’t imagine how I would be so overwhelmed if I had to work by myself. Thanks so bad, guys! Dear SCOPEOPLE, go upgrade and maximize your passion through many opportunities within SCOPE. For you who enjoy designing and loving SCOPE that much, being MCC is your perfect choice!
VNI – Yuscha Anindya In my times working as Vice NEO for Internal Affairs, I had met many people with different backgrounds and cultures, and it had opened my eyes to a new perspective I have never knew. I always knew I loved working with SCOPE, but I never knew that connecting people from across the islands of Indonesia and making them feel at home with the NECLEO family affected me in a very good way. I loved working as VNI, and if I had the chance to do it all over again, I would. For SCOPEOPLE who wanted to apply for this position, you should!

FNM TEAM – Deby Andita Halo! I am Deby as Fundraising and Merchandise team of NEC 2014-2015. I am so happy and glad became a part of NEC. Because of that, I want to study more about marketing, fundraising and works on my passion. As a team, I helped the walks of Fundraise and Merchandise by doing my jobdesc. Promoting merchandise that SCOPEOPLE will consume and helping Farah as FnMC to remind Pre-Order deadline to LEOs. I enjoyed my job. Thank you for giving me a responsibility. Hope SCOPE will always gives a positive effect to medical students #ImSCOPEOPLEandImproud.

MC TEAM – Andi Muhammad Rizqi First of all, I’d like to thank our coordinator who had been so patient to handle us as a team. I am truly sorry for the mistakes that I’ve made. I meant that’s not only a few, but a lot. But our coordinator always been there for us, accepting our mistakes and giving us a lot of advices so we could be much better than before. It’s really a blissful year since I joined the team. And I would like to thank you to all of SCOPEOPLE in contributing to make our PeriSCOPE. Without you guys, our PeriSCOPE is only a meaningless magazine. So that’s it. I love you SCOPE, and thanks for accepting me as its member. LOVE~
PERISCOPE 4TH EDITION VOL. 3 | JUNE - SEPT 2015
MC TEAM – Nadhila Shafira Fitri I’m really happy to be a part of MC Team for this past one year! Really and truly happy because I learnt a lot from this! I’m sorry for every trouble I’ve brought up to you guys (and I know that’s a lot). And thanks a bunch for every SCOPEOPLE who has contributed in our PeriSCOPE~ I’m hoping that the next year’s MC Team would be more WOW than us! (and for them not to rely on the power of adrenalines in finishing PeriSCOPE just like SCOPE TIMES wwww) I love you all and stay awesome guys!

s we know, Exchange Fair is an event which promotes the exchange program of SCOPE CIMSA. It is a national project of SCOPE CIMSA. It has been held in every local of SCOPE CIMSA all around Indonesia. The project started from March to April 2015.
In some locals like UNAND, it started with an event called I ACE on Live then continued with opening booth for 3 days. In UNAIR, it was the opposite. It started with opening booth then closed by an event called PROXIMAL. Most of the locals held a seminar-like event and opening booth for some days. The target is different in every local. Some locals sold the application form to the intern and other locals sold it to the medical student. There are more than 30 countries which are available for exchange. Those are for bilateral contract with SCOPE CIMSA but actually almost all countries in the world are available! Exchange Program is extremelty great! So what are you waiting for? Go grab an application form and go exchange!!

Easy way TO APPLY VISA for SCHENGEN COUNTRIES
I
s it hard to get a Schengen visa? I bet it is, isn’t? There’re so many questions when it comes to get a visa for your exchange.
Schengen visa is travel documents which is published by one of Schengen countries. By using this kind of visa, we could travel 26 countries which is included into Schengen countries in 90 days.
There is a list of 26 countries which included in Schengen countries : Austria, Netherlands, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania Liechtenstein, Luxemburg, Malta, Norway, French, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Greece, and Portugal.
Now, let’s talk about how to get the Schengen visa. First of all, I would like to tell you, as an applicant, you should write down the trip which you will do. Write down the details about which country that you will visit at the first place and which country that you will spend your time the most. It’s really helpful to decide which country that you will apply your documents to. You can

apply to the country where you visit at first or the country where you will spend time the most. So, what’s next? I will tell you what the things you should prepare. After deciding which country that you’ll apply your visa to, there’re documents needed : 1. First thing, which is the most important, is a passport. The passport as well as all the copies of your previous visas, valid for at least 3 months prior to your departure are required. The passport must have at least two blank pages. 2. A copy of identity card 36
3. A copy of your family card
and it’s free!
4. A copy of your birth certificate
6. A proof of your accommodation during the trip
5. Your go-back plan ticket printout
The same as ticket problem, it’s unrecommended to pay an accommodation fee before you get your visa. For this one, you can book a temporary accomodation via www.booking. com and choose your accomodation according to your date trip. This site facilitate a free cancellation fee, so you don’t have to pay anything if the cancellation is due to the terms and conditions. One thing you have to remember is, not all of
Buying a plan ticket before you get your visa is totally unrecommended. Whereas, it needs a proof of your go-back plan ticket to apply a visa. So, how can we trick this problem? You can go to travel agency and ask for a ticket printout, e.g : Jakarta-Paris-Jakarta. Say to the agency that the printout is used to apply a visa. This is exactly what I always use to get a visa,

the hostel/hotel facilitate you a free cancellation fee, so choose carefully. 7. Fill the form The form is available on TLS contact and VFS global website. 8. Travel insurance Travel insurance could be bought at travel agency. 9. Attach a recent photograph A recent photograph of the individual is required to be attached to the application form accordingly to the guidelines/ format, background etc
10. Submit the application documents and attend the interview in person. During the interview you will be asked personal questions about your whereabouts, the trip and other travel details. Make sure your answers are firm and correct.
I would like to remind you that there will be additional documents or conditions needed regarding to which country that you will apply to. But, most of Schengen countries have the same terms and conditions. So, for the details you could surf down on the internet. It will help you a lot.
11. Visa’s fee The visa’s fee is fluctuative according to rupiah’s exchange rate to euro. You can check it on TLS contact and VFS global to know today’s fee.

ach year, IFMSA regularly holds meetings to bring together medical students from all over the world. There are two meetings IFMSA held each year, they are March Meeting and August Meeting. This year, Turk-MSIC was given the opportunity to host this eagerly-awaited event by medical students from around the globe. Turk-MSIC is representative of approximately 30,000 medical students in Turkey. It has gained its power from dynamic and qualified local committees. With 50 strong local committees, Turkey, which is the center of 3 continents, Europe, Asia and Africa, was definitely a great spot for IFMSA to combine all the thoughts from the world. A numerous number of medical students were enjoying their time with outstanding plenaries and other sessions of IFMSA GA. Antalya, a touristic little city on the southern part

of Turkey was chosen to be the city for this event. A city for all seasons, Antalya was founded in the second century BC by Attalus II, King of Pergamum and named Attaleia in his honor. Attalus ordered his men to find the “Paradise on Earth”. They traveled all around and found a place on the Mediterranean coast with wide strips of sand on the shores, thick forests, waterfalls pouring towards the sea and ever shining sun. They thought “this must be it” and founded a city here. In each meeting, there will be a one theme event to generalize the whole materials for the activities in the meeting, and this year March Meeting Turkey 2015 (MM Turkey 2015) took theme “Humanitarian Action”. As cited from the MM Turkey 2015 website, they put a hope that the attendants will have opportunity to learn about emergency situations and how to respond in such situations. They would also
have a chance to engage with specialists witnesses from emergency, disaster and conflict situations. In addition to all of these our members will have opportunity to know more about what is going on around the world- from the people that has vast knowledge and real life experience in war, conflict and disaster areas of the world.
ticipants mostly felt so happy and excited to join the whole agenda (not to mention the super fancy venue and free-flow scrumptious 3 times a day meals :p), and also at the end of the day there was a social program for the participants to relax and get to know more the other participant from the other NMO.
Just like the other IFMSA meeting, besides the Sco-session and plenary session, this event was equipped with workshops, parallel sessions and panel sessions as where the theme event being implemented. MM Turkey 2015 was divided into three parts, the Pre- General Assembly, General Assembly, and Post-General Assembly. And the main event was wholly packed in the General Assembly which was held from 2-8 March 2015 in Limak Atlantis Resort and Hotel, Belek, Antalya.

On the fourth day, the SCOPEOPLE and SCOREPUBLICS were privileged to attend one of the most important agenda on the exchange world, The Exchange Fair. VPE Diannisa Susantono also helped us in this session while our dear Outgoing NEO, Armalya Pritazahra was very busy on her duty as The International Team. Besides presenting Indonesia we also had to distribute a bundle of Invitation Letters to several NMO who need it as the condition for the exchange program. The SCOPE Sessions Day 2, March 3rd In the first day of the agenda, there would be an Initial procedure from SCOPE International Team or roll calling for the whole NMOs. The initial procedure was the first step to start the session. Basics to start SCOPE in LC/ NMO In this session SCOPE international team gave presentations about the basic SCOPE regulations to the whole NMOs. The presentation was presented by Omar Cherkaoui as a SCOPED, and he wanted to make the whole LEOs/NEOs to understand on how to organize SCOPE in their NMOs. Speed Dating The speed dating session was an ice breaking activity to help SCOPE members to get to know one and another from different NMOs. The activity was to create one big circle and an inner circle so the person introduced themselves to one and another in less than 1 minute. New Database Update In this session, there had been an update regarding to SCOPE and SCORE database from
42

IFMSA International team vice president for external affairs which was Claudel P-Desrosiers. She emphasized to the whole LEOs/NEOs that the old database for SCOPE and SCORE should be renewed to make it more simple and efficient. However there had been a lot of problems lately regarding to the funds from IFMSA and the cooperation from the IT Company. Day 3, March 4th Global Health within Exchanges In the second day of the session, the first agenda was actually an open discussion after the vice president for external affairs gave a presentation regarding to global health within exchanges. The aim in this open discussion was to give awareness on how exchanges make an impact in global health. In global health the aims were to give an equal health to every country and the exchange roles by understanding other country problems in health specifically. Academic Quality for Beginners In this session, SCOPE-D gave presentations on how to give and improve the academic quality within the LC. The academic quality for SCOPE had always been an issue in every NMOs, however academic quality was the most important assessment for LEOs/NEOs so they could give an evaluation which should be improved furthermore. The activity was to create a role-play between the LEOs/NEOs from other NMOs. During this session it was really a great session that many of the LEOs/NEOs could finally have a background picture on how to overcome when there was a problem with their incomings or outgoings.
The first step of the activity was to identify about the problems. After the problem had been identified, the LEOs/NEOs should figure out 2 solutions. The 2 solutions would provide the LEOs/ NEOs to have a backup plan when the plan A was not effective. The main thing in this session was to teach the LEOs/NEOs to provide a good communication and service for the outgoings or incomings. Day 4, March 5th PRET Introduction In this SCOPE session, there was an introduction on what Professional & Research exchanges training on the upcoming months. The presentation was given to help LEOs/NEOs on how to prepare professional and research training combined as one. Day 5, March 6th SCOPE Regulations Voting In this session all of the NMOs were discussing to revise changes for the SCOPE regulations and voting. Incomings & Outgoings Session In this session, there was a discussion regarding to problem based on every NMOs about their Incomings and Outgoings’ problems. Every NMOs shared their problems regarding to the Incomings or Outgoings ‘problems which there would be an open forum discussion with other LEOs/NEOs from different NMOs to give solutions.

Good morning, doc. How are you? What is your busyness recently? Morning. I’m fine thank you. Well, now I’m working in Diagram Hospital in Cinere. It’s a cardiology centre and it managed by Siloam Hospital Group. What do you think about SCOPE and CIMSA nowadays? Are there any differences between SCOPE nowadays and a couple years ago? I became a SCOPE member from 2007 until 2013. I think SCOPE nowadays is better than when I was a member. Now, you have more contracts from incoming and outgoing, and you have other programs beside the exchange. But I think you have less fun than when I was in. Prove it if I am wrong. Hehehe. I always say SCOPEople don’t need brain but muscle and fun to arrange the exchange. But in a positive meaning :) Have you ever experienced an exchange program? If yes, could you tell us about it?
46
PERISCOPE 4TH EDITION VOL. 3 | JUNE - SEPT 2015
I went to Germany in 2011 for having my clerkship in Surgery Departement Universitätsklinikum Erlangen. It was one of my amazing experience in my life. I could learn from the best. And I love the city too. Erlangen is a nice small city. The food was nice. But if you could go there you must try their sauerkraut. Hahaha. The IFMSA member was so helpful. Thanks to their LEO and other members so we could fit there. The hospital staffs were very nice to us. But you had to read about the patient first before the ronde J At last but not least, the exchange is about travel around the europe after you have finished the programme. I’d love to be a backpacker ( but actually we didn’t bring any backpack but a big suitcase instead). How about IFMSA General Assembly? Have you ever joined? What things did you get from the GA? I went to IFMSA March Meeting 2010 in Bangkok Thailand. When I was there we were told that Chile canceled their bid for OC in March because of the
earthquake. So we suddenly prepared for March Meeting 2011 in Jakarta. We bid for August Meeting 2010 but we lose from Montreal. IFMSA August Meeting 2010 was my first GA as a NEO. I got a lot of experience there. My first Contract Fair was very hectic but fun. And the biggest achievement for me was we got a bilateral contract with UK. The third GA that I joined was in 2011 March Meeting in Jakarta. I became a NEO and a OC too. It was a great experience to organize an International Event. In GA you can see many people from around the world, you can learn their culture, habit, and their drinks too J. You should join one to feel the ambience. How do you think of importance of SCOPE Exchange Program for medical students? I think SCOPE Exchange Programme is very important. In this programme you can study overseas for one month but in affordable price. You can learn from the best and it will be nice to put your exchange in your CV. Are there any advantages of being a member of SCOPE CIMSA that you put on your career? From SCOPE CIMSA we can learn about other people in the world. We have to adapt with their culture. We train to speak in front of people. And we could train our English and other languages. All of that soft skill are important in real life. What is the part that you’ve really missed of SCOPE CIMSA? I missed GA a lot, maybe someday I will join another American GA. Buenos Aires maybe? Or Mexico? I always love that place. What are your expectations for SCOPE CIMSA in the future? I hope SCOPE CIMSA always be the only place to have an clinical clerkship in Indonesia. And someday you can have a bilateral contract with USA ( but if their NEO is not that arrogant, hehe). Do you have any suggestions for SCOPEOPLE? Just have more fun. Enjoy your life as a medical student and a SCOPEople.
