he International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA) was one of the numerous international student organizations set up directly after the end of the Second World War. The first meeting that saw the establishment of the Federation was held in Copenhagen, Denmark in May 1951. The first members of this new organization were England, Austria, the Federal Republic of Germany, Finland, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Denmark. London saw the first General Assembly of IFMSA in July 1952. The meeting had a total of thirty 2 0 1 4 — participants from ten countries.

decentralization of IFMSA. To this aim, IFMSA contributed to the creation of regional medical student organizations in Africa and Asia. Subsequently, regional vice-presidents were elected for six regions as a way of promoting regionalization but this structure was abandoned after a few years. In the early 1980s IFMSA issued a number of resolutions and declarations on topics ranging from Medical Education to the Prevention of Nuclear War to Primary Health Care. In the late 80’s there was a push towards organizing 2 0 1 5 projects that would be able to make a change locally and thus the Village Concept Project idea was born after collaboration with other REPORT international student organizations. 1986 also saw the start of the Leadership Training Programs in collaboration with World Health Organization. These training programs are still active today.

CIMSA UGM

The growth of IFMSA through the years has ANNUAL been remarkable. Starting from the exclusively European founding organizations the Federation has expanded to include more than 100 members from all over the world in the sixty years of our organization.

IFMSA has always focused on student mobility and exchange as well as conference and workshop organization. The first conferences were the Student International Clinical Conferences, which were quite successful in the 1950s. Various summer schools have been organized through the years, starting in 1963 in Denmark, the UK and Scandinavia. Other conferences have discussed medical education, drugs and AIDS and HIV issues. In the 1960s projects were organized to help less advantaged students in developing countries the Book Aid project, which sought to send medical books from wealthier nations and the Equipment Appeal, which promoted the shipping of surplus medical equipment to these countries. The 1970s medical students saw a need for the

Official relations with WHO started back in 1969, when the collaboration resulted in the organization of a symposium on “Programmed Learning in Medical Education”, as well as immunology and tropical medicine programs. In the following years, IFMSA and WHO collaborated in the organization of a number of workshops and training programs. IFMSA has been collaborating with UNESCO since 1971. Since 2007 IFMSA has been an official supporting organization of HIFA2015 (Healthcare Information For All by 2015). (taken from http://cimsa. or.id/about-4/about/)

INIMI (Mini Medical Book and Kit Fair) had been established for the second year by SCOME UGM. With our background to facilitate UGM medical students especially the freshmen to gain easy access for medical books or medical utilities. Therefore at 9-12 September 2014, SCOME UGM created MINIMI located at Taman Medika FK UGM. This event started from 10.00 until 15.00 with a standing booth. Our project used a pre-order system where anyone who wanted to buy our products had to write their own identities and pay on the first place, and approximately in 4 days the products would be given to the buyer. The purpose of this event could be reached very well, seeing from the enthusiasm of our stand’s visitors.

CORETRACTION was an event held by SCORE UGM, desired to introduce basic science fair to elementary school students which aimed to stimulate the interest and curiosity of the research since an early age. Thus, on Saturday, September 13 2014, SCORE UGM held SCORETRACTION at Sinduadi Elementary School. This event started from 07.00 until 10.30 that involved 4th and 5th grader, totaling 68 students. This event consisted of spot experiment (7 spots) and science experiments. For the spot games, the students were divided into 7 groups. In the rolling spot our science experimenters demonstrated some simple yet interesting science principals and we also taught the kids how to wash hands properly as attractive as possible. For us, the goal of this event was well-reached, judging from the enthusiasm and curiosity from the elementary school students in every activities and from their ability to answer the quiz from us. RESEARCH IS FUN!

id you know, every October 24th all physicians in Indonesia celebrated the day dedicated to their profession? As a medical student, of course we cannot be separated from this day which needs to be celebrated to appreciate the doctor. On October 24th, 2014, SCOME CIMSA UGM held a celebration in the form of appreciation directly to the physicians around us. We urged citizens of FK UGM to use white outfits, write “Write Your Opinion” in white cloth, and distribute 70 stalks and 3 bouquets of white roses for their lecturer or for physicians in Sardjito Hospital. We interviewed the Deputy Dean, Assistant Dean, and students of each batch. The Vice Dean personally appreciated us and she was very happy, surprised, and proud of the existence of this celebration. Then we proceeded with the photo of persons forming the letters “HDN”, and there stood “Health’s Ambulance” where the interesting informations about health issues in Indonesia were packaged. On October 27, 2014, in collaboration with Family Jogja radio and Radio Star FM, we held a talkshow with dr. Agung Nugroho entitled ‘Rational Drug Usage’.

his year had become a phase where CIMSA UGM underwent reformations, not only from the activities we did, but also from how this organization took action. Where we, as the Officials of CIMSA UGM 2014—2015, always considered the sustainability of every decision we made together. We thought it would be very unwise to evaluate the progress of this organization for just only one year, even though it wouldn’t make us grow slower. By looking at the potentials of our members’ capability and the various problems we face around, it is obvious for CIMSA UGM to keep making improvements and keep contributing to the community every year. And I hope that the improvements won’t stop there, instead it will continue for every year, for every Officials, and for every member of CIMSA UGM. 2 0 1 4 — 2 0 1 5
