LOVELAND – Christmas comes to Loveland Saturday, Dec. 15, on the city sidewalks and all around the town from 4-9 p.m. Everyone is invited to join in all the reindeer fun for the annual holiday celebration organized by the Little Miami River Chamber Alliance. Chamber CEO Cee Cee Collins promises a lot of the same Christmas traditions from the past including the live Nativity, businesses offering free samplings, carriage rides, Victorian carolers and characters such as Anna and Elsa walking the streets, and jolly old Santa Claus for all the boys and girls to meet. “It is just going to be a sight to behold,” said Collins. “Santa will be at City Hall. They always do a great job decorating City Hall. It looks spectacular.” One of those great traditions is visiting the Loveland Museum Center beautifully decorated in Victorian Christmas style. The museum center's board, members, and director Jan Beller have planned holiday fun for everyone. Along with the gorgeous decorations, they’ll feature singing by the students at Ohio Valley Voices accompanied by a student pianist from the Loveland Music Academy. There will be refreshments and there is nothing like seeing Dick Shaver running his model

It’s a really big hit.” A mini parade will escort horse-drawn carriages from Shoppers Haven into Historic Downtown Loveland at about 4:30 with carriage rides beginning at 5 p.m. The traditional cookies, hot cocoa, chestnuts roasting over an open fire, and the Loveland Stage Company’s traditional free Christmas show will help get you in See LOVELAND, Page 1A

$100 million mixed-use project comes to Kenwood Jeanne Houck Cincinnati Enquirer USA TODAY NETWORK

SYCAMORE TWP. – A $100 million project will bring luxury apartments, an office tower and a hotel to Kenwood – plus money from the developer to install air conditioning in the Deer Park Junior/ Senior High School. Capital Investment Group of downtown Cincinnati expects to begin a twoyear construction period next summer at property on Kenwood Road, across from the Kenwood Towne Centre. “We look forward to announcing our first partners and tenants in early 2019,” David Bastos, president of Capital Investment Group, said. Capital Investment Group is touting approval of the much-revised “The Gallery of Kenwood” project as a cooperative, private-public effort and a big win for the community. It estimates the development will create some 1,800 jobs, including construction jobs. Capital Investment Group met several times with concerned residents and revised its plans multiple times after first submitting paperwork about the project with Sycamore Township in March. “We worked in concert with township officials and the community to craft a development plan that will reflect the high quality of the surrounding commercial development, that will provide long-term benefits to the township and that will respond to supply gaps that currently exist in the marketplace,” Capital Investment Group said in a statement released after the Sycamore Township Board of Trustees recently approved its plans for The Gallery of Kenwood. Not celebrating are some residents who think Capital Investment Group’s plans for a little over seven acres of land are too dense. “(It’s an) overly intense development

more in keeping with a central city than Sycamore Township,” said Tim Mara, an attorney in downtown Cincinnati who represented some 60 residents. The Gallery of Kenwood will include: ❚ A building with 248 apartments that will transition from three to four to five levels the further it backs away from neighboring residential neighborhoods to the west and southwest. ❚ A six-story hotel with 125 rooms. ❚ A six-story office tower with 117,000 square feet of space. ❚ A total of 20,000 square feet of restaurant or retail space will be on the first floors of the hotel and office tower. ❚ Up to 1,240 spaces will be provided in two parking garages. Spaces will be reserved for residents of the apartments and for The Jewish Hospital – Mercy Health at the north end of the development. Sycamore Township Trustee Tom Weidman said Capital Investment Group could have, by right, developed four, four-story office buildings on the property with only 20-foot setbacks from adjacent residential properties and no fences. “We would not have been able to include any of the conditions that we did

on this proposal as a condition of approval,” Weidman said. “As it stands with their proposed project, the setback against the residential properties is anywhere from 43 feet to 150 feet. The developer is required to put up 10-foot privacy fence eight feet from the property line with trees planted on both sides of the fence. “This will significantly buffer the project from the neighbors,” Weidman said. Weidman said The Gallery of Kenwood also will help keep the Kenwood business district thriving and mean a healthy uptick in taxes for the township. “This development will generate approximately $575,000 in tax revenue – equivalent to 1 mill – to the township, while the current tax revenue from the property is $14,900,” Weidman said. “This continues to keep Sycamore Township with the lowest property taxes of any township in Hamilton County. “When you couple that with the fact we are the only township in Hamilton County that hasn’t had a levy on the ballot in over 12 years, it demonstrates how managing commercial development can continue to keep property taxes low for our residents,” Weidman said. To build The Gallery of Kenwood, Capital Investment Group will raze 22 multifamily homes now on Kenwood Road between The Jewish Hospital –

Mercy Health and the Kenwood Place shopping center with the Kenwood Theatre to the south. Despite revisions to the plan, Mara said his clients continue to have concerns about The Gallery at Kenwood that include increased traffic, damage to residential property values, the loss of affordable housing and how close the development will be to adjacent residential properties. “The revisions that were made were not substantial and did not address in any meaningful way the concerns expressed by my clients and others,” Mara said. Top Deer Park City Schools officials have a different take on the matter. In a mailer paid for by Capital Investment Group, Schools Superintendent Jay Phillips and school board members urged people to support The Gallery at Kenwood, saying Capital Investment had agreed to present the schools with a $1.2 million check upfront to put airconditioning in its junior/senior high school. “Beginning with tax year 2020, the property tax income from this development will triple from the current amount we are collecting off of the property today, and will continue to grow over the future years,” the mailer said. Capital Investment Group says new property taxes collected annually by the Deer Park schools during a 30-year period will start at $307,000, increase to $407,000 after 10 years and increase to $507,000 after 20 years. “This substantial increase in revenue will allow us to complete many needed and necessary capital improvement projects throughout the district,” the mailer said. Bastos said Capital Investment Group now will proceed with the purchase of some property not yet closed on in the development area, begin working with an architectural firm on the next step of the design process and submit a final design to Sycamore Township that incorporates all 28 of the trustees’ conditions for the project.

An evening of film and fiber at the Barn The Barn, also known as The Woman’s Art Cultural Center, invites the community to appreciate the life and work of Vincent Van Gogh through the unique venues of film and fiber. On Dec. 13, ARTflix, The Barn’s monthly movie series, will feature a most amazing accomplishment in film production. Loving Vincent is the world’s first full-length movie using oilpainted frames. Funded by the Polish Film Institute, this 2017 piece employed the talents of more than 100 artists who painted more than 65,000 frames using Van Gogh’s techniques to depict the story of his life and death. Loving Vincent is the recipient of the Golden Eagle Award for Best Foreign Language Film and for the European Film Award for Best Animated Feature in 2017. In addition, visitors will have an opportunity to view an international quilt show sponsored by The Cherrywood Quilt Company (CQC) and brought to Cincinnati by Fiber Art at The Barn. The Barn’s exhibit will be the country’s only venue displaying its complete collection. In 2017 CQC challenged artists around the world to create a 24 x 24-inch quilt about Dutch Post-Impressionist Vincent van Gogh. CQC chose 200 quilts, then split the entries into a French and Dutch exhibition. Cincinnati is the only city in the U.S. to display both French and Dutch installations. Once displayed in Cincinnati the exhibit will be dismantled and quilts sent back to the original artists. The Barn doors open at 6:30 p.m. for an introduction; the film begins at 7 p.m. BYOB. Soft drinks, snacks, and door prizes are available. No charge. The Barn is located at 6980 Cambridge Ave. in Mariemont. To register for the event, go to artatthebarn.org or call 513-272-3700. Madeira wants $20,000 from motorist for smashed guardrail Jeanne Houck Cincinnati Enquirer USA TODAY NETWORK

MADEIRA – A Blue Ash man accused of driving under the influence is facing more than jail, fines and driver’s license restrictions. Unless he has insurance, the city of Madeira plans to slam him with a nearly $20,000 bill for badly damaging a guardrail. “We will attempt to obtain reimbursement from the driver who, at this time, has not yet provided proof of insurance,” Madeira City Manager Tom Moeller said in a report prepared for the Nov. 26 Madeira City Council meeting. “If the driver, who was charged with OVI, does not have insurance, we will seek a judgment from the court to attempt to get reimbursement from the driver personally.” The driver is Quincy Pemberton, 28, who was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or another drug of abuse, driving with a suspended license and failing to maintain control of his 2004 Acura shortly before midnight Sept. 29. A Madeira police ticket said the pavement was dry, traffic was light and there were no adverse weather conditions when Pemberton crashed into a guardrail on Shawnee Run Road at Camargo Road. Pemberton has pleaded not guilty in Hamilton County Municipal Court to the charges against him. A pre-trial conference is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 14. The Madeira police ticket issued against Pemberton Sept. 29 said he refused to take a chemical test for intoxication. Pemberton’s driver’s license was seized, and his car was towed. Police said in a Sept. 30 report to the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles regarding Pemberton’s license that he had an open container, smelled of intoxicating

beverages and was slurring his speech when arrested. Police also said Pemberton was advised that his driver’s license could be suspended if he failed to submit to a breath, blood or urine blood-alcohol concentration test. The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles suspended Pemberton’s license. Pemberton’s lawyer is appealing the suspension. In a notice of appeal filed Nov. 14 in Hamilton County Municipal Court, county public defender Danielle Colliver said police did not ask Pemberton to submit to a chemical test, that Pemberton did not refuse a chemical test and that police did not tell Pemberton that his driver’s license could be suspended for refusing to

submit to a test. Meanwhile, Madeira City Council voted Nov. 26 to authorize Moeller to contract with the Ford Development Corp. of Sharonville for the repair of the guardrail at Shawnee Run and Camargo roads. Ford Development said it could do the repair for $19,875, Moeller said in his report for the City Council meeting. “There was considerable damage to a large section (of the guardrail) that will need to be completely replaced,” Moeller said. “Because of its location near the intersection, there will be an expense associated with maintaining traffic because one lane of the road will need to be completely shut down as the contractor makes the repair.”

Spokeswoman Lisa Colina said Lola’s Coffee decided to open a coffee bar in Hyde Park because that’s where owner Juan Imeroni and his wife, Sue, live. “Juan wanted to give the neighborhood a taste of downtown, and created a fun and cozy destination where everyone would feel welcome to enjoy a coffee or a cocktail together, study or get some work done, or relax and enjoy a board game with friends,” said Colina, director of communication and events for Ignite Entertainment, the parent company that owns Lola’s Coffee. “Lola's Coffee is a laid-back, diverse and eclectic coffee shop and bar, serving locally roasted coffee, craft cocktails, great local and craft beers and artisan wines, as well as fantastic, locally made Baudry pastries and bagels from OTR Bagelry. “Lola's is special because we follow the beat of our own drum. We have a young and vibrant staff bursting with artistic talent, and we host a unique spread of events, with everything from our monthly painting event with 50 West Brewing (in Columbia Township), to live ukulele music in Hyde Park, to Argentine wine tastings,” Colina said.

Lola’s Coffee is open in Hyde Park. PROVIDED/EMILY PALM

Like its sister coffee bar in downtown Cincinnati, the Hyde Park Lola’s Coffee is eclectically furnished. Tiffany lamps illuminate a wood bar lined with stools. Mismatched furniture ranges from comfy red armchairs to utilitarian metal and wood chairs. Framed maps and pictures of musical icons such as Jimi Hendrix and Amy Winehouse drinking from what appear to be coffee cups decorate the walls. The Hyde Park Lola’s Coffee is open daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Downtown Cincinnati Lola’s Coffee is open weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. It generally is closed Sundays unless there are big events such as Bengals games or festivals. Both coffee bars are available for private events.

Make biscotti your way, learn tricks for good rib roast Cranberry almond biscotti

Rita’s Kitchen Rita Heikenfeld

Well, you’ll never guess who just emailed me about Busken Bakery’s beloved Boston brown bread. (Some of you will remember that they used to serve it at their restaurant in Downtown Cincinnati). None other than Dan Busken, President and CEO. Dan thinks he may be able to find it, and if so, I’ll share it with you. When I was testing the cranberry almond biscotti recipe, my husband, Frank, kept taking slices off the baking sheet before I could bake them a second time (biscotti means twice baked). A darn good testimonial, wouldn’t you say? Check out the foolproof recipe for standing beef rib roast, too. Save the bones for bone broth. You’ll find a recipe on my site.

Perfect standing beef rib roast

Maybe you’d like to sub in cherries for cranberries, or pistachios for the almonds. How about chopped apricots? Or a few more nuts and no fruit, or vice versa? Ingredients 2 cups all-purpose flour 1 cup granulated sugar 1 teaspoon baking powder Couple pinches salt ⁄4 cup dried cranberries

3

1 cup chopped, slivered or sliced almonds, toasted in a 350 degree oven for 7 minutes, or just until fragrant 2 large eggs ⁄4 cup vegetable oil

This roast is expensive, and a loyal reader shared this recipe. “Similar to the way Cooks Illustrated recommends roasting beef,” she said. Start roasting it at a high temperature to sear outside and then roast it really slow so that it stays moist inside. First, season as you like. Place ribs side down in a sprayed pan and roast at 450 for 15 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 250 and roast until thermometer reads about 125 for rare; up to 145 for medium or so. The roast continues to cook at least 5 degrees more when it’s out of the oven. Let it rest, tented with foil, for about 20 minutes before carving.

Viewpoints All is calm, all is LaRosa’s gives gift bright with a few tips of connection Sandra Guile Guest Columnist Community Press

The hectic pace of the holidays is here. With it comes to do lists, family visits, holiday shopping, and get-togethers with friends. It’s a time when our attention gets diverted away from checking important details like our how our personal information is being used, what wi-fi connection we’re using and not quite checking out charity requests. Here are a few tips to keep at least some control of the chaos: ❚ Always ask for a gift receipt. This way the recipient can return or exchange a gift if it’s not just right. ❚ Ask about a store’s return policy and warranty information before purchasing. Pass along information about returns, exchanges, repairs, and warranties to the person who will use the item. ❚ Research gifts and gadgets reading product reviews, check BBB.org’s Business Profiles, look at the sales flyers and ads, compare prices, look for early promotions and “flash sales.” For tips , check out BBB’s Digital IQ. ❚ Mobile Security is Important! With so many shoppers using their mobile devices to research and make purchases, it’s important to have a secure device. Be

sure you’re using the most up to date version of apps and operating system on your phone. ❚ Also, actively manage your location services, Bluetooth, microphone and camera – make sure apps use them appropriately as well. Check the app settings to make sure all apps have appropriate access to your information. ❚ Be on the lookout for name similarities. Dubious charities often pick a name that sounds like a more famous charity. Before you give, be sure you have the exact name of the charity you want to support. Learn more about charitable giving at give.org. Request a free holiday issue of the BBB Wise Giving Guide to be sent to a friend or family member this giving season! The guide features evaluation results for thousands of charities. Simply email Guide@give.org with “Free Guide” in the subject line, and a name and address of where you’d like the guide to be sent. Enjoy the holidays and remember, there’s always someone out there ready to pounce on your personal information. Protect it and learn more at bbb.org. Each year around this time, our holiday to-do lists are rapidly growing, calendars filling up and stress levels hitting an all-time high. With all these holiday distractions, it’s easy to lose sight of those around us that aren’t as fortunate, needing support to have their basic needs met. At LaRosa’s, each holiday season for more than 10 years, we have partnered with many of our generous Guests to present the “Feed Our Neighbors in Need” program, contributing 1/2 of the sales of all Buddy cards to the Freestore Foodbank. The Freestore Foodbank addresses the physical need of hunger in our community, a connection is built that then opens the door for crucial conversations around other issues impacting the wellbeing of local individuals and families. Because that’s what it’s about, a connection. We see that in our restaurants each day, our guests come for the food, but they stay for the connection. Without the continued support and partnership from our guests, giving back to our community at this

level would not be possible. By helping to meet the needs of those in our community through nourishment and human connection, we’re able to then offer something even greater, hope. Through Feed Our Neighbors in Need, last year LaRosa’s was able to contribute over $50,000 to the Freestore Foodbank, but the work doesn’t stop there. Here’s how you can help: ❚ Purchase a LaRosa’s Buddy Card for $10 at any LaRosa’s pizzeria now through Dec. 31; LaRosa’s will donate $5 from the sale of every Buddy Card to the Freestore Foodbank. For a full list of locations, visit www.larosas.com/find ❚ Donate to Freestore Foodbank. For more information visit http://freestorefoodbank.org. Please join me and the LaRosa family as we work to provide nourishment, connection and hope to our community. Your help will make a difference to our neighbors in need. LaRosa’s was founded in 1954 on Cincinnati’s West Side by Buddy LaRosa. It is now a $165 million restaurant company with 64 pizzerias in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana. Sports Boys basketball storylines to watch

SHORT HOPS Shelby Dermer Cincinnati Enquirer

Boys Basketball

Cincinnati Enquirer USA TODAY NETWORK

Here are a few stories to watch as the 2018-19 boys basketball season gets underway in Cincinnati.

The top-ranked recruits in the area Miles McBride, the senior Moeller point guard, is the top local recruit, according to 247 Sports. Already committed to West Virginia, McBride returns to oversee a Crusaders team that won the 2018 state title. He's ranked seventh in the state for the class of 2019, according to 247 Sports. Greg Tribble was ranked fifth before he enrolled at Huntington Prep. Abba Lawal, a 6-foot-11 senior center at Withrow, is ranked ninth in the state and looks to lead the Tigers in the Eastern Cincinnati Conference.

Speaking of Moeller... Can the Crusaders repeat this season? In 2017-18, they went 27-3 and unbeaten in the Greater Catholic League South. While they lost the majority of their scorers, the Crusaders have McBride and Alec Pfriem, who led the conference in assists. In the past three seasons, the Crusaders have won the GCL-South annually and haven't dropped a conference game since a five-point loss to Elder on Feb. 5, 2016. Moeller began its season Dec. 1 with a win over Bryan Station at Hillsboro High School. The Crusaders loaded this season's slate with quality Ohio opponents such as Hughes, Wayne and Springfield (each coming off district titles) along with defending D-II state champion Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary.

6-foot-11 senior Abba Lawal of Withrow is back to lead the way for the Tigers this season.

Moeller’s Alec Pfreim joins top local recruit Miles McBride in helping the Crusaders defend their state title.

Girls basketball storylines to watch Madeira vs. Mariemont

Shelby Dermer Cincinnati Enquirer USA TODAY NETWORK

The Cincinnati Hills League has been a two-team race over the last four years between Madeira and Mariemont. The Mustangs took the conference in 2015 and the Warriors won in 2016 and 2017 before splitting the crown last spring. Mariemont lost all five of its starters from a year ago and will have to battle inexperience to try to stay atop the standings. Madeira is hurt by the turnover, too, having lost Mary Englert and Marin Kline, a duo that combined for 27 points per game last season.

Here are a few stories to watch as the 2018-19 girls basketball season gets underway in Cincinnati.

Top-ranked recruits Kennedi Myles will head to Oxford when she graduates in the spring. The Walnut Hills standout committed to Miami University prior to her junior season and signed a few weeks ago. She averaged a double-double at 15 points and 10 boards per game last season.

Will Walnut be back? Led by Myles, the reigning two-time Eastern Cincinnati Conference Player of the Year, Walnut Hills finished 25-2 and captured its first district title since 2010. The Eagles lost their best deep threat in Regan Anderson, but bring back Myles and junior guard Sean Kelly Darks, who averaged in double figures last season. Expect West Clermont and Loveland to be in the mix, too. The Tigers are led by junior Jillian Hayes, who was honor-

ness and its team-first mentality. Miami Valley Christian Academy Last season: 5-17 (4-12 MVC) Head coach Suzy Osterman: “The girls are going to be building skills and team work because the team lost a lot of seniors from the past year.” Madeira Last season: 22-4 (13-1 CHL) Head coach Jared Kline: “We have four seniors who will all start. We play hard on both ends of the floor.” Walnut Hills Last season: 25-2 (14-0 ECC) Head coach Adam Lazar: “I am most excited about our depth, experience and maturity. We return seven players who all played legitimate varsity minutes last year, and have added three freshmen who are going to be fantastic.” Loveland Last season: 18-5 (10-4 ECC) Head coach Darnell Parker: “This year’s team hit the ground running. After having a year in the system, our players are much more comfortable with what is expected of them.” St. Ursula Last season: 4-19 (0-10 GGCL) Head coach Matt Kleespies: “We are young, athletic and hardworking. Still a lot to learn, but very coachable group of girls.” Purcell Marian Last season: 18-7 (6-4 GCL Co-ed) Head coach Jamar Mosley: “I am not sure how many teams can say they have 11 girls with varsity experience returning. We have five seniors, all of which contributed in a major way last season.” Withrow Last season: 2-20 (0-14 ECC) Head coach Michael Boggan: “I like that I have two experienced guards returning from last year. Both were starters and have grown into leaders and are becoming really good ball players.”

With a core returning, the Wildcats looked poised to be a top contender for another Cincinnati Hills League title and a deep playoff run under Steve Gentry. Junior guard Mark Wise scored 27 points in Deer Park's season-opening win over Summit Country Day on Friday. Joseph Hocker, a first-team all-district football player and a vital piece of last year's championship puzzle, had a 21-point, 20rebound double-double.

The ECC's battle of the bigs The ECC will likely come down to defense again as all of the top five teams from a year ago allowed less than 49 points per game against conference opponents. 6-foot-5 forward Nic Smith is one of the key returners for defending ECC-champion Walnut Hills. He averaged 11.1 points and 6.1 rebounds per game as a sophomore last season and was honorable mention all-district. Abba Lawal and his 50 swatted shots from a year ago return for Withrow, which finished 16-9 last season and won a pair of playoff games before running into Moeller in the district semifinal. Also returning for the Tigers is Mike Hill Jr., who averaged 12 points per game last season. At 6-foot-9, forward Jackson Ames will play a big role for West Clermont this season. Ames played 11 games last year for the Wolves and opened his junior campaign Friday night with a 14-point outing in a win over Little Miami.

Coaching notebook Cincinnati Christian Last season: 14-9 (11-5 MVC) Head coach Carl Woods: "We have nine players with varsity experience returning from last season’s 14-9 squad that won their fourth consecutive MVC Gray title, this includes three starters in seniors Riley Reutener and Miguel Ringer, as

well as Junior Cameron Rogers." Madeira Last season: 19-8 (10-4 CHL) Head coach Rick Rockwell: Although Madeira graduated four starters from last year's 19-win team, they still return four key players. The Mustangs will be led by senior Eric Hoeffel, who averaged 10.3 points per game last season and shot over 40 percent from beyond the arc. Roger Bacon Last season: 5-18 (2-8 GCL co-ed) Head coach Brian Neal: Likes the experience of this team, which is mostly provided by senior Jeremiah Flowers and junior Josiah McGee. Cincinnati Country Day Last season: 16-9 (10-6 MVC) Head coach Greg Ross: "We are fast, athletic, and play hard with high energy. I like that all the guys are very coachable and

want to get better." Sycamore Last season: 13-12 (7-9 GMC) Head coach Andrew Ovington: Likes the team's competitiveness and its teamfirst mindset. Seven Hills Last season: 12-12 (8-8 MVC) Head coach Willie Hill: "We have great size and length. Two solid scorers in (Brice) Hill and (Curtis) Harrison. Loveland Last season: 5-18 (3-11 ECC) Head coach Rob Reis: "We are upperclassmen dominated with all juniors and seniors on the varsity team." Norwood Last season: 5-18 (5-11 MVC) Head coach Jason Bose: "We are very athletic and coachable. The kids are buying into a team-first system."

Blue Ash Civil Air Patrol unit participating in wreath-laying salute to veterans Members of Civil Air Patrol’s Blue Ash Squadron are proud to partner once more with Wreaths Across America, a nonprofit organization with the mission to Remember the fallen, Honor those who serve, and Teach the next generation the value of freedom. “Civil Air Patrol is a patriotic organization with a rich, 77-year history of serving the needs of our communities nationwide,” said CAP National Commander Maj. Gen. Mark Smith. “There is no finer need within our communities than that of the Wreaths Across America project – remembering and honoring our fallen veterans, at a time of year reserved for giving thanks. CAP is honored and proud to be associated with Wreaths Across America.” By placing wreaths on the graves of our fallen military during the holiday season, Wreaths Across America and Civil Air Patrol seek to remember, honor and teach others about the courage and sacrifices of U.S. veterans who have served in the Armed forces. Wreaths Across America culminates this year on Saturday, Dec. 15, with an estimated 90,000 volunteers placing 244,700 wreaths on head-

stones at Arlington National Cemetery and many of Arlington’s memorials, including the Tomb of the Unknowns. Simultaneous ceremonies will be held throughout the day at over 1,400 veterans’ cemeteries or war memorial sites in all 50 states, as well as over 20 foreign locations. Civil Air Patrol is one of the largest groups fundraising for Wreaths Across America, and its members also lead or participate, often with color and honor guards, in many of the ceremonies at war memorials and cemeteries held nationwide and abroad. Officers and cadets from about 250 CAP squadrons, including the Blue Ash Squadron, are signed up to organize National Wreaths Across America Day observances on Dec. 15 at national cemeteries and war memorials in their region, state and communities. Blue Ash City Council consider redistricting options The natural ebb and flow in Blue Ash’s population has led to the need for city council ward redistricting. Over time, redistricting is occasionally necessary to ensure all residents benefit from a fully representative gov-

ernment. In November, the City of Blue Ash proposed a redistricting plan with the purpose of balancing populations in each of its five wards. It has been 16 years since redistricting last took place in Blue Ash.

Specifically, the redistricting plan would: Balance wards to each have approximately 1,210 households, Keep neighborhoods together and wards contiguous, Use streets, property lines, railroad, or other appar-
