The Graduate Certificate in Biomedical Informatics reflects a partnership between three leading institutions: Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, and the UC College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. The program is based on the principle of combining foundations in computer science and engineering with state-of-the-art clinical and biomedical applications. It is open to graduate students as well as clinicians and professionals with advanced degrees.

ABOUT THE FIELD • Interdisciplinary field is an integral component of clinical and translational research and healthcare infrastructure. • Demand for researchers and health professionals with these skills is increasing.

CURRICULUM • Offers graduate-level training in the field of biomedical informatics. • Complements existing MS and PhD degree programs at the University of Cincinnati. • Trains students in both quantitative and biomedical programs to develop and apply computational methods. • Focuses on current problems in biomedicine and design/implementation of clinical informatics systems.

The core curriculum consists of five courses plus two electives for a total of up to 19 credit hours.

• Enables training of clinicians and health professionals interested in the integration of clinical and analytical systems with clinical practice and research.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN • Broad understanding of the field. • Knowledge of information technology solutions. • Hands-on experience with informatics systems. • Principles of data science and its applications. • How to work with clinical, genomic, and other large-scale data sets in studies on disease etiology, personalized treatment and optimal clinical interventions.
