Get a preventative check-up at Planned Parenthood I N T E R V I E W W I T H P L A N N E D PA R E N T H O O D S TA F F
How will engaging with Planned Parenthood help folks achieve their Resolutions goal?
Did you make a New Year’s resolution to be healthy? Many of us do but we tend to focus on things that will impact our physical appearance like exercising and dieting. Both are important components of improving our health, but it’s important not to forget to visit your doctor for preventive services. That’s why this new year, we want to remind you to schedule your well-woman visit.
What is a well-woman visit?
04 • RESOLUTIONS 2018
Well, it depends on your age, medical history and when you last visited your healthcare provider. Generally, a wellwoman visit consists of a breast exam, pelvic exam and might include screening for cervical cancer. This is also your opportunity to talk to your healthcare provider about birth control, testing for sexually transmitted infections or any other questions you have about your body or your health. You can ask us any questions you might have. Nothing is off limits.
How often do I need one?
Typically, you should have a well-woman exam every year. Parts of the exam, like screening for cervical cancer, may not be performed every year depending on your age and medical history.
How much does it cost?
Have insurance? Then you can get your well-woman visit at no cost to you. Just like a wellness check-up with a primary care physician, a well-woman visit is considered preventive. That means no co-pay! No insurance? No problem! We offer all of our services at a reduced cost for patients paying out-of-pocket.
Why is it benefi cial?
Simple — regular well-woman visits can help spot abnormalities with your reproductive system before they become a serious problem.
What else do you provide?
We provide services for all of your general reproductive needs: well-woman visits, Pap tests, HPV typing, HPV vaccine, pregnancy testing, STD testing and treatment, birth control services and abortion care. Have questions? Give us a call!.

How will the Warren County Career Center help people grow during the year?
It is never too late to learn a new skill! Working toward a goal of improving your earning power in the job market will give you an updated resume with marketable skills and a feeling of pride and satisfaction as you mark each milestone and realize your goal. Many of our students tell us how proud they are of themselves for sticking to it and achieving their goal, and how they have inspired their children, family members and friends to set their own educational goals.
What challenges hold people back from furthering their education?
Many adults, especially those who have not been in school for several years, are intimidated by the thought of going back to school. Making an appointment to talk to a counselor, exploring financial aid options, taking tests and going to classes — sometimes after working a full-time job — can seem overwhelming. Our staff is committed to helping students succeed and we are accustomed to working with students who juggle family and work commitments along with attending school. High school sophomores may wonder what it is like to go to a new school for their last two years and if they will make new friends and still be able
to participate in their associated school activities. As our seniors graduate, they tell us how glad they were that they took a chance and enrolled into a WCCC program.
How can WCCC benefit those looking to forward their educations and careers?
Our adult and high school students earn industry certifications and college credit, are eligible for scholarships and finish school a step ahead of others entering the job market. Career Technical Education prepares students for careers that are in demand, and for further education to keep ahead of the changes in technology and for jobs in emerging career fields.
What might surprise people about WCCC?
Adults who have been out of school for a while and are anxious about going back might be surprised to find out how easy it is to apply and get started in workforce training. Free resources are available to adults for brushing up on academic skills to prepare for testing. High school students will find that they want to come to school because they enjoy being in their labs, and academic subjects make more sense when they relate to their field of study. Students are involved in hands-on career-technical activities: building houses, filming and editing movies, fixing vehicles, networking computers, preparing meals, programming robots, producing precision metal parts, styling hair and more.

Where’s the best place to start on a resolution to take better care of it? Take the time to exfoliate at least once a week — both body and face. Exfoliating gets rid of dead skin cells and allows for new, healthy skin to take over, with the added benefit that it leaves your skin soft and smooth. You can do this at home with a number of products. At The Spa at 21c, we offer a full-body exfoliation that can be added on to any service, but also is incorporated in our wraps and rituals. We also offer exfoliation in every facial that we offer, from the signature glow to the Red Carpet Glow. We also provide these experiences for guests to take home with them so they are able to keep their skin soft and smooth between professional treatments.

Sunburns can do a number on your skin in the hot summer months, but is the sun still damaging in the winter? Even in the wintertime you still need to use a sunscreen. A lot of facial moisturizers incorporate a SPF. The Spa at 21c does offer multiple moisturizers that do just that — protect from the sun’s harmful rays but also hydrate or firm. We believe there are three main reasons people fall short when it comes to their fitness goals: time, knowledge and accountability. People feel like they don’t have the time they need to make progress toward their goals, or they don’t know where to start. And keeping yourself on track and honest with your progress is one of the hardest parts about honoring resolutions.

Find your new best friend with My Furry Valentine I N T E R V I E W W I T H M O R G A N B I S S E L L , M Y F U R R Y VA L E N T I N E B O A R D O F D I R E C TO R S M E M B E R How will adopting a new pet help people grow during the year? Adopting a pet can enrich your life in so many ways. I adopted my dog Tanner at My Furry Valentine in 2016 and went on to join the MFV Team and ultimately their board of directors. Bringing Tanner home gave me not only an unconditionally loving companion, but also a sense of fulfillment from saving a life. We do everything together, from morning exercise to sharing food (just mine — he is spoiled and I don’t eat kibble!). Tanner comes to work at MFV with me and at the end of a long day, he is in bed next to me. This rescue dog deeply cares for me and enriches my life. Adoption made our connection possible.
What challenges hold people back from adopting a rescue pet?
There are a few common misconceptions that hold people back from adopting a shelter or rescue pet. For example, many individuals who haven’t adopted in the past think that the animals were abandoned because of health or behavioral problems. In reality, most of these animals wound up without a home because of an issue their family was facing, like a move or financial struggles, not because of anything on the animal’s part.
How does My Furry Valentine help you find a new best friend? If you’re serious about finding a new furry companion, there’s no better place to search. With so many homeless animals out there, the process can seem daunting, but My Furry Valentine makes adoption easier by bringing so many animals together in one place while offering low fees and pet experts to answer all your questions. In addition to convenience, all animals participating in My Furry Valentine from rescues and shelters are fully vaccinated, spayed or neutered and have health records on site. This year’s event will feature hundreds of adoptable animals (dogs, cats, puppies, kittens and other small critters) from dozens of different rescue and shelter groups. Adoptable animals are gathered at a centralized location at the Sharonville Convention Center to make it easier to find your perfect pet, but if you want to stay closer to home, the event also offers dozens of satellite locations throughout the weekend. What accomplishments are you most proud of during 2017? In 2017, we hosted our biggest event yet with more than 850 adoptions and 14,000 guests. Even with the explosive growth, we’re proud to keep MFV free to all rescues and shelters with adoptable animals thanks to the awesome volunteers, sponsors and vendors that support us in our mission to end the euthanasia of homeless animals in our community.

Take a culinary journey with Taste of Belgium I N T E R V I E W W I T H A N D R E W M A L O N E Y, M A N A G E R
How will visiting Taste of Belgium line up with folks’ New Year’s goals?
We want to take our guests on a journey through creative dishes and authentic beer. Each item has a story, and we want our guests to experience Belgium (with a quirky American twist). Most guests think of Taste of Belgium as a brunch/ lunch establishment when in reality we are more than the waffle. We were built on the waffle, sure, but as a company, we offer an incredible dinner menu and boast one of the best curated beer lists in the city.
What is new this upcoming year?
We will open up a commissary to tie all aspects of TOB into one World Waffle Headquarters (WWHQ). We also are unrolling a wellness program with our staff to promote a sense of well-being with our crew. We have a ton of new and exciting menu items planned and we are expanding our beverage program further to allow for a more interactive dining/drinking experience.
What accomplishments were you most proud of during 2017?
Discovery — 2017 was a year where, as a company, we took a step back and evaluated ourselves and looked at areas we need to improve on and areas that are great
that we need to expand upon. It was a very productive year for us and we can’t wait until these new programs go into effect.
What offerings will be particularly exciting in 2018?
We have been working with our POS system to introduce some really incredible loyalty programs that will offer guests rewards when buying coffee, pastries and even beer.
What benefits of visiting Taste of Belgium might surprise people?
For guests, the continued surprise I see daily is people not knowing we have alcohol or dinner. Our dinner menu uses Belgian influences with an American twist to offer items like the Beltucky Hotbrown, mussels and frites, snails, galletes and crepes and a multitude of other items to introduce our guests to a unique dining experience.
What is Taste of Belgium’s resolution for 2018?
Our resolution is to grow from our strengths and weaknesses to enhance the guest experience and to introduce Cincinnati to better beer. We want to continue to grow as a brand through new marketing strategies and to implement improved protocols and procedures on the store level to enhance guest experience. We also hope to give guests more opportunity to learn about Belgium as a whole through food, drink and atmosphere.
