Five Star Rated Facility! by The United States Medicare program
The Five-Star Quality Rating System was created to help consumers, their families, and caregivers compare nursing homes more easily and help identify areas about which you may want to ask questions.
Nursing home ratings are taken from the following three sources of data:

• Health Inspections • Staffing • Quality Measures
Annual State HEALTH INSPECTION
Nursing homes vary in the quality of care and services they provide to their residents. Reviewing these three important areas is to measure nursing home quality. This information gives you a “snap shot” of the care individual nursing homes give.

A message from the Chamber President: Welcome to the 2018 edition of the Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce Membership Directory and Business Resource Guide. We are pleased to again partner with Cincinnati Magazine and Anderson Township government to deliver this valuable and informative community publication. We hope you will enjoy it and hold on to it all year. The Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce serves the businesses and residents of Anderson Township, Village of Newtown, Mt. Washington and western Clermont County. Economic development continues to be the big buzz in the community and there are many 2018 projects, including the development of the Shoppes at Anderson Towne Center with several restaurants, a fitness facility and a nail salon slated to move in. In addition, we are hopeful that Kroger will begin the expansion of their existing space, which will take them from roughly 100,000 square feet to 150,000 square feet, making it the largest Kroger in the world. There are several development projects in the works involving senior care facilities that will address the ever-growing need of our aging community. We strive to be a leader in the community and want to connect with the businesses and residents in every way. Social media has been a great communication tool for us, and we encourage everyone to Like us on Facebook and Follow us on Twitter. We also encourage you to visit our website at www.Anderson AreaChamber.org. It is updated daily with community and chamber events, plus you can search local businesses by category or business name. It is a mobilefriendly site and very easy to navigate. The Chamber provides its members with an assortment of useful benefits that include: marketing opportunities to promote your business, top-notch networking events, discounted rates on workers’ comp and medical benefits, and professional development seminars to help businesses grow. We strive to create new events, programs and partnerships to educate, stimulate and maximize the return that our members receive. We highly encourage everyone to Shop Local and support our members who support us.

HOW COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT CAN HELP YOUR BUSINESS ers consider corporate social responsibility when deciding what products to buy, services to use and where to shop. There are several things to consider when incorporating community involvement into your business plan:

1. Partner with local businesses/ organizations within your community. Look around in your community and identify businesses or organizations that are in need of help or support. Is there an animal shelter that needs donations? Do the schools need help with sponsorships, guest speakers or internships? Does the food pantry need additional resources to keep shelves filled? 2. Get your employees involved. Ask your employees to give suggestions re-
garding potential organizations your business can assist. Once you have identified the beneficiary, offer your employees an opportunity to volunteer during work hours or offer incentives if the event is outside the workday. Volunteer events can provide team building and leadership development, which benefit your business. 3. Share your volunteerism with your customers. Once you have determined your course of giving back, let your current and future customers know what you are doing via social media posts, your newsletter and website. This will show your concern for your community—a community that will, in turn, support your business. In addition, you offer your customers a chance to get involved with your project by donating their time or resources.

2018 COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT
THINK BIG
FOR SMALL BUSINESS
T
he Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce wants to remind you to “Shop Local.” Once people realize the community reinvestment impact of shopping locally, it makes so much sense. On average when a consumer shops locally, 75 percent of the money spent stays in the local community, compared to only 40 percent when consumers shop at a larger retailer. Small businesses buy products and services from other small businesses, reinvesting money into the community.
THINK ABOUT IT! A LOCALLY OWNED SHOP WILL:
» Use a local accountant for payroll and taxes
» Use a local printer to print letterhead, business cards, banners, etc.
» Purchase business insurance from a local agent
» Use local agencies for marketing and promotion
The list goes on and on with examples of how locally owned businesses reinvest money into the community in which they operate. This is why when at all possible, it is good to support the little guys on your block. It is the duty of a local chamber of commerce to support and promote locally owned businesses year-round. They are the backbone of American business and the driving force behind a healthy economy.
Now is the best time to move. Don’t you deserve the best?

A
urry of new development has redeďŹ ned the shape and feel of the downtown business district of Anderson Township. While it took a while to get the project started, residents eagerly anticipate the opening in early summer of the Shoppes at Anderson Towne Center, a very visible project under construction at the corner of Beechmont Avenue and Wolfangel Road. Four tenants have been announced for the 18,000-square-foot development as of press time: McAllister’s Deli, Ambiance Nail Salon and Spa, Orangetheory Fitness and Chipotle. Plans
include two plazas, outdoor seating and shared parking with the Anderson Township Kroger store. Six acres on Beechmont Avenue where Beech Acres used to be will soon be home to a new senior assisted living and memory care community, the Stonecrest Senior Living community. The 99-bed community includes two-bedroom apartments, luxury accommodations, all-day dining choices and 24-hour stafďŹ ng. Opening is planned for summer 2019. planned off Woodruff Road. These ranch-style houses will offer upscale amenities and a “carefree lifestyleâ€? in two-bedroom offerings. Construction is expected to start this summer. A prime piece of Anderson Township real estate could change shape soon. Township ofďŹ cials are weighing interest in the redevelopment of this center-of-the-community area that houses the Anderson Center Station, the township’s park ‘n ride METRO station. A mixed-use development could be an option for this site, according to Trustee President Josh Gerth. —Nancy Caine

ANDERSON
A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE, WORK AND PLAY
A
nderson is the place to be. Whether you’re starting a family or deciding where to locate a new business, you’ll find plenty to love about Greater Anderson. Tucked in the picturesque southeastern corner of Hamilton County between the Ohio and Little Miami rivers, the region’s roots go back to the late 18th century when pioneers settled along the Little Miami River. Their foresight and hard work provided the foundation for Anderson residents to realize their own American Dreams in what’s become one of the area’s most desirable places to live, work and play. Economically, the region’s future is bright. Between 2015 and 2018 residents will realize more than $165 million in public and private investment in the center of the community. This investment comes alongside new retail and office space in Anderson Towne Center and nearby Mercy Health–Anderson Hospital, which is bringing new life to “Downtown Anderson.” Millions more dollars in private investment and the collaborative vision of committed leaders and citizens ensure there is always plenty of opportunity for growth. For homeowners, it’s all good news, too. From cottage-style starter homes to spacious estates, Anderson’s housing values continue to increase. And it’s no wonder. The township’s commitment to parks, Greenspace and hiking trails remain a priority; top-rated schools make the area one of the most attractive to raise a family; and excellent medical care and wellness services for residents of all ages ensure a commitment to a healthy lifestyle. Look around, and you’ll see: Those who call the region home are living the good life. 16 ANDERSON AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

ANDERSON TOWNSHIP
GOVERNMENT T
houghtful planning is a hallmark of Anderson Township government. Attention to detail characterizes the community’s approach to its past and its ability to envision its future, enabling smart growth and careful preservation of community assets. Governed by a three-person elected board of trustees, Anderson operates its own public works and fire departments. The township contracts for policing services from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. The busy commercial corridor of Beechmont Avenue, a hub and shopping destination, continues to undergo major redevelopment and improvement. Anderson government has worked to balance this growing commercial activity with the community’s other outstanding features, including high-quality schools, outstanding parks and Greenspace, excellent public services, and easy access to downtown, the airport and other parts of the region. In recent years, Anderson Township has focused on collaborative efforts, encouraging public-private partnerships to promote its vision for the future. In recent and coming years, more than $400 million worth of infrastructure and redevelopment projects will have transformed the business and entertainment core of the community. Responsible, efficient and conservative governance has paid off in Anderson Township. Property taxes are kept in check while the township maintains high-quality public services— quality that’s backed up by the top rating from Moody’s Investors Service. Anderson remains a solid investment for homeowners and has won many awards for its plans and overall quality of life. In recent years, trustees launched several initiatives to help residents lower basic electricity and trash-recycling service costs. An at-the-curb textile recycling program is expected to launch this summer at no cost to residents. Now celebrating its 225th year, the township plans a series of events and promotions to recognize its pioneer past, while also celebrating the rich tapestry of Anderson in 2018. (See page 26 for details.) Anderson Township leaders engage and involve residents in local decision-making activities. Some 110 volunteers serve on nine citizen committees that advise the trustees on key issues ranging from zoning to transportation and economic development. The newest group, the Senior Center Advisory Committee, focuses on the Anderson Township Senior Center, which provides many critical services to older adults, plus programs, trips and parties. Anderson Township assumed management of center operations in July 2016 and use of programs and services has increased more than 12 percent under its oversight. Anderson’s leadership continues to concentrate on programs and policies that support a high quality of life, enhancing daily living in a community that respects its past while actively charting a better future.

stablished in 1793, 10 years before Ohio became a state, Anderson Township grew into a series of farming outposts such as Sweetwine, Fruit Hill, Forestville and Cherry Grove. The completion of the Beechmont Levee and construction of interstates 275 and 471 fueled growth in the mid-20th century and later, as more direct routes to downtown were created. Today, what now stands is a developed locale that is hailed as one of Cincinnati’s premier communities. At 225 years old, traces of Anderson’s previous residents and activities remain, found in historic buildings, faded farm photos and pioneer artifacts. These reminders

are taking center stage this year as the township plans projects, events and visual reminders during the “quasquibicentennial” celebration of 2018. Here’s a big-picture look at what’s planned this year: • More than 100 historic banners currently dot the business districts in Anderson Township, with representative photos from farming, places, commerce, daily life and more. Included are early photos of some of the township’s iconic buildings, providing a visual contrast between then and now. A written guide describing details about each photo is available at AndersonTownship.org.
• Anderson’s local community television station, ACTV, is producing a series of historic narratives throughout the year sharing interesting tidbits from the past. Topics include an overview of ancient history in Anderson (leading to archeological digs here in the early 1900s), local families with roots in the community since the 1800s, and early buildings that are still in use today. Additionally, the township’s quarterly newsletter, “Anderson Insights,” is running special stories on “Hidden History” culled from the township’s past. Check out Anderson Township’s YouTube channel for new short videos each month. • Dedication of a new Ohio Historical WWW.ANDERSONAREACHAMBER.ORG 27

2018 ANDERSON TODAY Marker for the Clark Stone House (corner of Clough Pike and Hunley Road) is planned for a fall community event at the site. The Clark Stone House, one of the oldest stone homes in southern Ohio, will be open for viewing, along with entertainment and refreshments. • For a legacy project for the 225th anniversary, Anderson Township plans the introduction of permanent interpretive display boards to be located on Beechmont near Wolfangel Road, on Clough Pike near Hunley Road and on Kellogg Road across from Belterra Park. The boards will help present additional history through words and images related to these areas, which were early settlements in the township. • The Arcadia Publishing book titled Anderson Township was released in late winter, a photographic look at the community from its earliest days to about the 1940s. Created by the Anderson Township Historical Society, the book is part of
the “Images of America” book series and documents the area’s history and the lives of its residents. The release of Anderson Township also lines up with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the township’s historic society. • During the township’s annual Anderson Township Garden Tour, set for Sunday, June 3, residents are invited to visit the historic sites of the Miller-Leuser Log House and the Clark Stone House (both on Clough Pike) to learn more about the community’s roots. • The yearly Independence Day Parade will include a strong emphasis on the 225th historic element, with participants urged to work with the theme, “Anderson Township, 225 Years in the Making.” • Art teachers will help seventh and eighth grade students from the Forest Hills School District create a large collage called “Faces of Anderson” in honor of the 225th celebration. Included will be clay masks and graphic design self-portraits. It will
be on display at Anderson Center during the fall. • New to history buffs this year is a booklet detailing the many pioneer cemeteries in Anderson Township. The booklet is created by Anderson Township. • In September, Anderson Township organizers will host a special history-focused day to cap off the community’s official celebrations, involving a concert on the outdoor plaza at Anderson Center. On this day (date to be announced), organizers will encourage other historical venues around Anderson Township to open for tours. “Through these special initiatives in 2018, we hope our residents will discover the rich heritage of our community,” says Trustee Dee Stone. “Our community’s history is worth celebrating and remembering this year.” Details not available by press time and more 225th-related information is available at AndersonTownship.org Q
