A message from the Chamber President: Welcome to the 2020 edition of the Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce Membership Directory and Business Resource Guide. As we celebrate our 50th year, we are pleased to again partner with Cincinnati Magazine and Anderson Township government to deliver this valuable and informative community publication. We hope you will enjoy and refer to it throughout the year. The Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce serves the businesses and residents of Anderson Township, Village of Newtown, Mt. Washington and western Clermont County. Economic development continues to be the big buzz in the community. We started off the year with the addition of two well-established restaurants, Tom + Chee and Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers, along with Kitchen 1883 (opened in late December). There are quite a few projects in the works for 2020 including the expansion of Kroger in the Towne Center, CityBird Tenders (a spinoff of The Eagle), a new senior care facility on Clough Pike and a proposed medical building behind Anderson Pub & Grill. In addition, on the residential front, there are several new neighborhoods being added to the area. We strive to be a leader in the community and want to connect with the businesses and residents in every way. Social media continues to be a great communication tool for us and we encourage everyone to Like us on Facebook and Follow us on Twitter. We also encourage you to visit our website at www. Is there an animal shelter that needs donations? Do the schools need help with sponsorships, guest speakers or internships? Does the food pantry need additional resources to keep shelves filled? 2. garding potential organizations your business can assist. Once you have identified the beneficiary, offer your employees an opportunity to volunteer during work hours or offer incentives if the event is outside the workday. Volunteer events can provide team building and leadership development, which benefit your business. 3. Share your volunteerism with your customers. Once you have determined your course of giving back, let your current and future customers know what you are doing via social media posts, your newsletter and website. This will show your concern for your community—a community that will, in turn, support your business. NETWORKING: ADVANCE YOUR BUSINESS

The Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce provides multiple networking opportunities each month. Monthly Membership Meeting: AACC meetings are held the first Thursday of each month (excluding January) from 11:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Anderson Center. This is the best attended monthly event and is the biggest bang for your networking buck.
Morning Mixers: Mixers are held the third Thursday of each month from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at a local business. These well-attended events are shared and rotated with three other east-side chambers: Clermont Chamber, Little Miami River Chamber Alliance and Milford–Miami Chamber of Commerce. Professional Development: Events are held the third Tuesday of each month from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Anderson Center. Network before and after, plus gain knowledge from industry experts on important topics.
Signature Events: Our four signature events—AACC Annual Awards, Chamber Golf Outing, Anderson’s Got Talent, and Holiday Cheers—are held throughout the year and offer ample networking time. Business After Hours: One or two events are held each year at local restaurants or businesses from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with complimentary appetizers and a cash bar.

This is why when at all possible, it is good to support the little guys on your block. It is the duty of a local chamber of commerce to support and promote locally owned businesses year-round. They are the backbone of American business and the driving force behind a healthy economy.

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT 2020 Mental illness is still misunderstood. A combination of elements may play a role, including chronic stress, trauma, biological and hereditary factors. Mental illness is a disease that, fortunately, is highly treatable, especially if diagnosed and treated during its early stages. However, mental illness is not necessarily curable. Much like diabetes, it will require some level of attention and management throughout one’s life. With the correct treatment and proper support, someone with mental illness is capable of living a very fulfilling and satisfying life.

houghtful planning is a hallmark of Anderson Township government. Attention to detail characterizes the community’s approach to its past and its ability to envision its future, enabling smart growth and careful preservation of community assets. Governed by a three-person elected board of trustees, Anderson operates its own public works and fire departments. The township contracts for policing services from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. The busy commercial corridor of Beechmont Avenue, a hub and shopping destination, continues to undergo major redevelopment and improvement. Anderson government has worked to balance this growing commercial activity with the community’s other outstanding features, including high-quality schools, outstanding parks and Greenspace, excellent public services, and easy access to downtown, the airport and other parts of the region. In recent years, Anderson Township has focused on collaborative efforts, encouraging public-private partnerships to promote its vision for the future. More than $400 million in infrastructure and redevelopment projects will have transformed the business and entertainment core of the community in coming years. Responsible, efficient and conservative governance has paid off in Anderson Township. Property taxes are kept in check while the township maintains high-quality public services—quality that’s backed up by the top rating from Moody’s Investors Service. Anderson remains a solid investment for homeowners and has won many awards for its plans and overall quality of life. In recent years, trustees launched several initiatives to help residents lower basic electricity and trash-recycling service costs, now providing no-cost textile recycling at the curb. In continuing its history of providing quality-of-life services and amenities, Anderson Township acquired the Anderson Parks RecPlex at Beech Acres Park and is upgrading the facility for community use. Anderson Township leaders engage and involve residents in local decision-making activities. About 110 volunteers serve on nine citizen committees that advise the trustees on key issues ranging from zoning to transportation and economic development. The newest group committee, called WeTHRIVE! Anderson, focuses on health, wellness and beautification issues. This year the committee is working on the topic of improving mental health through a collaborative community approach. Anderson’s leadership continues to concentrate on programs and policies that support a high quality of life, enhancing daily living in a community which respects its past while actively charting a better future.

nderson Township is a great place to play, no matter how you like to kick back. With unsurpassed access to abundant parks, it’s the perfect place to romp with the kids, explore nature trails, stay fit or just relax. Music fans can catch big names just a few minutes from home at Riverbend and PNC Pavilion. Nearby, Coney Island and Belterra Park provide a dose of fun for kids and adults alike, attracting visitors from around the region. For more than a century, Coney Island has been the place to head for summer fun, whether it’s a day cooling off at Sunlite Pool—one of the nation’s largest—or soaking up the sun. This summer, Coney adds a water obstacle course called The Challenge Zone, featuring more than 150 feet of climbing obstacles, slides, monkey bars and balance beams. Stay grounded and get back to nature at one of Anderson Township’s 10 parks. Anderson Parks are the center of many community activities throughout the year, including Easter egg hunts, summer concerts at Beech Acres Park and sports leagues for all ages. Greenspace owned by the township
equals more than 600 acres, protecting the natural feel of the community as well as providing an oasis for wildlife. Golfers can choose from several area courses, including Legendary Run Golf Course, California Golf Course, the private Ivy Hills golf course and Coldstream Golf Course, undergoing a $5 million renovation. Anderson Township is dedicated to increasing options for active transportation. The Anderson Trails program initiated more than 20 years ago has grown into more than 25 miles of sidewalks and trails. A 2.5-mile link, the Five Mile Trail, connects the Turpin High School area with Anderson Towne Center, the Beechmont business district and Five Mile Road. These additions provide walkers and bikers access to Anderson Center, Anderson Towne Center and Beechmont Avenue. Expansion to the east and west in the next few years will ultimately connect trails with New Richmond and Cincinnati’s downtown.

MT. WASHINGTON SCHOOL Mt. Washington School is a neighborhood school serving grades Pre-K through sixth grade, with a magnet College Preparatory program for grades 4–6. The school’s enrollment is approximately 400 students. In addition to the highly competitive core curriculum with a strong, future-focused college-prep program, Mt. Washington School provides classes in art, music, physical education, computer, Spanish and gifted services. The school also offers band, strings and choir to interested students and after-school programs that offer an extension of the school
day where students participate in academic tutoring, STEM, art, and health and wellness enrichment activities. Mt. Washington School is very proud to be a Community Learning Center and a neighborhood anchor. PRIVATE SCHOOLS GUARDIAN ANGELS SCHOOL Guardian Angels, a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, offers a Catholic education for students in preschool through eighth grade. The school is a two-time recipient of the Thomas Edison Governor’s Award for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Education. Guardian Angels is dedicated to introducing students to the newest technology so that they are better prepared to enter high school. The 1:1 tablet program begins in sixth grade. Economic Development 2020 What’s on the Horizon in Anderson Township?
E
conomic change continues to define the busy Beechmont Avenue corridor, with the Anderson Towne Center Kroger set for major expansion before the end of 2020. Besides the Kroger upgrades already underway, residents can expect new restaurants, and new or expanded apartments, fitness facilities, housing and senior living communities to move forward this year.
Here’s an overview of what’s new and what’s happening during 2020: Anderson Towne Center Kroger Anderson’s high-performing Kroger store is under construction, adding 41,000 square feet on the east side of its existing location. New additions include Sweets & Meats BBQ products and DOPE! Asian Street Fare. Coming soon are The Killer Brownie Company, Busken and Sixteen Bricks Artisan Bakehouse products. Added services include the Kroger Pickup option, while the store also expands its team sports section and integrated natural food lines. Kroger officials have indicated they expect the project to be completed by the end of the year. Stonegate Apartments, Phase 3 One hundred twenty upscale rental apartments are under construction at Stonegate Apartments, in a two-building development. The development is owned by the Mayerson Company.

Harmony Senior Living Two buildings for assisted living and memory care are planned for a new development on Clough Pike near the Clough Pike Historic Business District. The buildings will be connected by an enclosed walkway with a physical therapy room and bistro area. Coney Island The Challenge Zone arrives this May at Coney Island, featuring the largest Aquaglide pool obstacle course in the United States. This hydroplayground consists of 150 feet of climbing obstacles, slides, monkey bars and balance beams. Anderson RecPlex Upgrade After purchasing the Anderson Parks RecPlex last year, Anderson Township is upgrading the facility with new lighting, bathrooms, paint, heating and air and more. Group Home Niesen Properties, LLC, is planning to turn a previous facility used for the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 7577 Forest Road into a residential care facility. New Restaurants Other restaurants already opened recently or soon to be open in Anderson Township include Kitchen 1883, Tom & Chee Anderson, CityBird Tenders, Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers and Tropical Smoothie Cafe.

Residential Development Township Trustee Chair Josh Gerth said while demand for Anderson Township homes remains high, inventory is low even as housing is very strong. Several new fill-in residential developments are in various stages of planning or construction and include: Parkside Estates: Thirteen custom Zika Homes are under construction starting from $800,000 on half-acre to one-and-a-half-acre sites. The neighborhood is surrounded by 100 acres of conservation area. Clough Chase: Fifteen unique lots near the corner of Clough Pike and Wolfangel are being readied by Ashford Homes. Reserve of Anderson: Grading is underway on a 32-lot development located on the east side of Four Mile Road. Kellogg Business District Upgrades Riverfront development plans for the Kellogg Business District are being created in conjunction with the city of Cincinnati. Anderson Township plans to invest in upgrading the signage in the area, along with hardscape improvements, and the addition of landscape and architectural details along the entertainment corridor. “While we’ve seen incredible economic development over the last couple of years in our downtown Anderson and Beechmont corridor areas, we feel now is a great time to focus on our front doorstep; welcoming people to experience all that Anderson Township has to offer,” Gerth says.

The original groundbreaking group is shown above. The Chamber was later rebranded to be the Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce.
