A MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR elcome to the 2022 edition of the Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce Membership Directory & Business Resource Guide. I would like to thank our partners, Cincinnati Magazine and Anderson Township, who assist us in putting together this publication. As always, we hope it will be a valuable resource for you throughout the year. This year, the Anderson Chamber will highlight small businesses and their importance in our community. According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, there were 32.5 million small businesses in the United States in 2021. They truly are the foundation of commerce in our country. As we continue to work our way through the aftereffects of the COVID-19 pandemic, please join us in supporting our local businesses by shopping and buying local. It is vital that our small businesses remain healthy and vibrant. We are excited to announce two special events that were delayed in 2021: SummerFest in June and FallFest in September. Hosted at the Anderson Towne Center, these new experiences will include live entertainment, food trucks, vendors, and activities for the kids. Our mission is to highlight all the wonderful businesses in the Anderson Towne Center and bring family and friends together for a fun festival atmosphere for everyone. Building leadership is another goal of the Anderson Chamber, and to that end, we launched a new leadership program called “Accelerate Anderson” last fall. This seven-month program is designed to educate, stimulate, and motivate the next generation of leaders on the Eastside. Registration for the 2022-23 year will open this summer. We have streamlined our Professional Development programs by combining all of them into our Lunch N’ Learn Series. Our Morning Mixer series will continue with our partner chambers to provide networking opportunities and we will continue our Business After Hours series with great food and drinks hosted by our local restaurants, pubs and bars. Please visit our website and social media outlets for more information on these events and more. We look forward to being part of your success in 2022!

THINK BIG FOR SMALL BUSINESS he Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce wants to remind you to “Shop Local.” Once people realize the community reinvestment impact of shopping locally, it makes so much sense. On average when a consumer shops locally, 75 percent of the money spent stays in the local community, compared to only 40 percent when consumers shop at a larger retailer. Small businesses buy products and services from other small businesses, reinvesting money into the community.

T

The list goes on and on with examples of how locally owned businesses reinvest money into the community in which they operate. This is why when at all possible, it is good to support the little guys on your block. It is the duty of a local chamber of commerce to support and promote locally owned businesses year-round. They are the backbone of American business and the driving force behind a healthy economy.

ANDERSON’S SMALL BUSINESSES KEEP COMMUNITY ROOTED BY NANCY CAINE

Small businesses are the lifeblood of many communities throughout the United States, and Anderson is no different. From eye doctors to event companies, these businesses keep our neighborhoods vibrant and thriving. t HUNTER CONSULTING COMPANY

hink of all the small businesses you can come into contact in a month— computer repair technicians, mom-and-pop restaurants, eclectic gift shops, lawnmower repair. The list is long. Small businesses constitute a major force in the U.S. economy and dominate our local economic scene. Within Anderson Township, it’s estimated that more than 600 small businesses have opened their doors, not counting those in surrounding Newtown, Union Township, or Mt. Washington. Matt Owen, executive director of the Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce,

They support the schools. They donate. They volunteer to support projects and programs that affect the quality of life in their community.” Anderson hosts many generational family businesses, and dozens of entrepreneurial ventures rising from local ingenuity. HUNTER CONSULTING

t When

longtime Anderson Township resident Jack Hunter, owner of Hunter Consulting Company, was looking to sell his business and retire in 2010, he had his employees top of mind. “He quickly realized that selling his business to a third party, outside of the family, meant that a majority of his long-tenured employees would lose their jobs,” says Brandon Hunter, who, along with his brother, Todd, decided to buy their father out. The second-generation company—a third-party administrator that offers comprehensive consulting and claims administration in the areas of Workers’ and Unemployment Compensation, Disability Case Management and Insurance Risk Services—has been in its current location (6600 Clough Pike) for 25 years. The transition took almost

two years and in May 2013, the sale of the business was complete. “Since that time, our business has grown consistently with increased revenues year over year,” Brandon says. A large part of the successful transition was due to the Cincinnati-based Goering Center for Family and Private Business who helped navigate the complicated issues of transitioning a family-based business from one generation to the next. “We have many clients that have been with our company for more than 20 years and even some 30-year clients,” Brandon adds. “All of that is a direct result of our staff.”

Anderson Township leaders engage and involve residents in local decision-making activities.
