SEPTEMBER 6 - 15, 2024
Mona Dermatology is a proud season partner of the Cincinnati Ballet.
Welcome to the 2024–2025 Season and The Kaplan New Works Series! There is a reason this production has become a favorite with Cincinnati Ballet patrons over the years. There is nothing quite like New Works!–world premiere choreography in the intimate JarsonKaplan Theater. Seats so close to the dancers, you can feel the energy and emotions coming from the stage. The opportunity to be the first audience to experience innovative work. For artists, this is an incubator for growth and creativity. As a former Cincinnati Ballet dancer, fresh ideas and bold possibilities made this series an exciting journey.
This season’s New Works is the first I have curated as the Company’s Interim Artistic Director and what a joy it has been to find new choreographic voices from around the world to support this production. For several years, I served as the Artistic Director of Moving Arts, a summer dance company that staged new contemporary works in Cincinnati and Kansas City. Some of you may have enjoyed Moving Arts’ performances at the Arnoff Center in previous years. My time with Moving Arts connected me to many innovative voices in the dance world and I am so pleased to continue to have the opportunity to champion new artists with New Works. You are going to experience four unique points of view and I’d like to take a moment to introduce you to these incredible artists. First, we have Darrell Grand Moultrie who has created and staged works for dance companies across the world including American Ballet Theatre, The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Dance Theatre of Harlem, BalletX, and Hubbard Street Dance Chicago. Darrell is based in Harlem, New York and he also served as a choreographer on Beyoncé’s record-breaking The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour. Christian Denice is a dancer and choreographer originally from Los Angeles, California. He has created new works for such companies and organizations as Moving Arts, Chamber Dance Project, Odyssey Dance Theatre, and DanceWorks Chicago. Gustavo Ramírez Sansano is one of Spain’s most internationally recognized choreographers. He has been commissioned to create works for some of the most respected dance companies all around the world, including Ballet Hispánico, Jacob’s Pillow, Nederlands Dans Theater, Hubbard Street Dance, and Scottish Dance Theatre, among others. He is the recipient of numerous international awards for his work. Caroline Dahm is a professional dancer and choreographer from Los Angeles, California. She has set original works on the Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Kansas City Ballet, Musical Theater Heritage, Newport Contemporary Ballet, and Wylliams-Henry Contemporary Dance Company, among others.
I hope you enjoy this season’s New Works as much as I do! I look forward to seeing you all during the 2024–2025 Season.
