Annie JR.

The Day Before Christmas

Taft Theatre Music by Charles Strouse Lyrics by Martin Charnin Book by Thomas Meehan Based on Little Orphan Annie by permission of The Media Tribune Services, Inc. Leapin’ Lizards! The popular comic strip heroine takes center stage in one of the world’s best-loved musicals. With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie charms everyone’s hearts, despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. She is determined to find her parents, who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City orphanage run by the cruel, embittered Miss Hannigan. Tickets start at $7

Taft Theatre Story and book by Ken Jones Music by Jamey Strawn Lyrics by Christine Jones In our newest holiday musical spectacular, The Day Before Christmas, there is a flurry of activity at the North Pole. Santa and Mrs. Claus, the elves, the reindeer, the forest animals, and even the Toys themselves prepare for the biggest night of the year! It takes a lot of planning and hard work to get a sleigh off the ground and to deliver toys to children around the world, but Santa’s team is ready and willing. Or at least they think they are before a tricky Jack Frost decides to try to stop the Christmas festivities with a little comical chaos and calamity. The world-premiere production is being written and compiled by Ken Jones, who put together the hit Santa’s Toy Factory for the 2012–2013 season. Tickets start at $7

PINKALICIOUS the Musical

Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka JR.

Taft Theatre Book by Elizabeth Kann & Victoria Kann Music by John Gregor Lyrics by John Gregor, Elizabeth Kann & Victoria Kann Based on the book Pinkalicious by Victoria Kann & Elizabeth Kann This is the tale, based on the popular book by Victoria Kann and Elizabeth Kann, of Pinkalicious, who can’t stop eating pink cupcakes despite warnings from her parents. Her pink indulgence lands her at the doctor’s office with Pinkititis, an affliction that turns her pink from head to toe—a dream come true for this pink loving enthusiast. But when her hue goes too far, only Pinkalicious can figure out a way to get out of this pink predicament. Tickets start at $7

Taft Theatre Lyrics and Music by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley Adapted for the stage by Leslie Bricusse and Timothy Allen McDonald Based on the book Charlie and The Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl Roald Dahl’s timeless story comes to life in this stage adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The show follows enigmatic candy man Willy Wonka as he stages a contest by hiding golden tickets in five of his candy bars. Whoever comes up with these tickets will win a free tour of the Wonka factory. Four of the five winning children are insufferable brats: the fifth is a likeable lad named Charlie Bucket who takes the tour with his equally amiable grandfather. The children must learn to follow Mr. Wonka’s rules in the factory—or suffer the consequences. Tickets start at $7

The Gifts of the Magi

Expecting Isabel

by Neil Simon Directed by Fred Blumenthal In this warm and gentle comedy of remembrance, show business insiders, Broadway wannabes, and the occasional tourist traipse in and out, each with a unique story. All the while a 60ish standup, Mickey Fox, dispenses one-liners, negotiates with a London producer, and deals with a very needy brotherin-law.

Book by Mark St. Germain Music by Randy Courts Lyrics by Randy Courts and Mark St. Germain Director TBD This is a combination of those beautiful stories we grew up with—the down-on-theirluck couple who have no Christmas present for each other and the gentlemanly bum who can’t get arrested so he can enjoy a warm cell and three square meals for the holidays.

by Lisa Loomer Directed by Natasha Randall Miranda and Nick, a couple nearing 40, are at last ready for a family. Getting pregnant is not so easy, however, and we are witness to the frustration, pain, and confusion of one couple as they try various ways to experience the joy of becoming a modern parent.

Other Desert Cities By Jon Robin Baitz The Wyeth family’s Palm Springs Christmas reunion is already a tense affair between conservative parents Lyman and Polly, former GOP celebrities, their two grown children, and Polly’s liberal alcoholic sister, Silda. Any sense of peace vanishes completely when daughter Brooke, a once promising novelist, announces she is about to publish a tell-all memoir that threatens to tarnish her prominent family’s past and reopen old wounds. As Brooke confesses her true motivations behind the book, she learns the real history is more shocking than she ever knew.

Becky’s New Car By Steven Dietz Becky Foster is stuck in neutral—middleaged, in middle management, and a middling marriage—until an honest misunderstanding with a wealthy widower offers her the chance at an exciting double life...and she takes it. Now she’s frantically juggling to keep her two worlds apart before everything threatens to come crashing down on her. It’s enough to drive Becky off a cliff, and she’s taking the audience along for the ride! OCTOBER 31–NOVEMBER 17, 2013

Fiddler on the Roof Book by Joseph Stein Music by Jerry Bock Lyrics by Sheldon Harnick Based on Sholem Aleichem’s stories by special permission of Arnold Perl Welcome to the village of Anatevka, where tradition is everything. But change is sweeping across the land and into poor

dairyman Tevye’s house. When his daughters want to break with the old ways and choose their own husbands, Tevye must decide which he loves more—his family’s happiness or his long-held beliefs. Filled with timeless songs and wonderful dance numbers, this Broadway blockbuster is a heartwarming tale for young and old. JANUARY 30–FEBRUARY 16, 2014

Torch Song Trilogy By Harvey Fierstein Poignant and filled with witty, sharp humor, Fierstein’s deeply personal story of selfdiscovery redefined an era in gay America. What begins as a chance encounter in a New York nightclub leads drag queen Arnold Beckoff in a hilarious, yet touching, pursuit of love, happiness, and a life of which he can be proud. From a failed affair with a reluctant lover to a committed relationship with a young model and the promise of a stable family, Arnold’s struggle for acceptance meets its greatest challenge in his intolerant mother.

Play It by Heart Music by David Spangler and Jerry Taylor Lyrics by David Spangler, Jerry Taylor, and R.T. Robinson Book by Brian Yorkey Based on an original story by R.T. Robinson It’s the passing of the torch in a country music dynasty as superstar Jeannine Jasper’s long career draws to a close. The changing world of the music industry is about to thrust her little sister, Jamie Lynn, into the spotlight. When an old flame comes calling, Jeannine envisions a quiet life offstage, but Jamie Lynn’s wild ways may cut short her time on top. Stage mother Naomi tries to keep control of her daughters until a scandalous secret comes to light and threatens to tear them apart. A musical about heartbreak and healing, this regional premiere comes alive with an exciting new score filled with classic and contemporary country songs and a book by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award® winner Brian Yorkey (Next to Normal). Tickets range from $16.50 to $45.
