A Note From the Director
Today we are going on an adventure! Moana is a thrilling and heartwarming coming-of-age musical that takes us on a journey, teaching us lessons in self-discovery, trust, and courage. But there are other important lessons we hope you might glean from our voyage.
without the help of our cultural consultants who guided TCT as we crafted a unique way to tell this story.
While Moana’s mission to save her village and discover the islands that make up Native Oceania and their legends, like the demigod Maui, are deeply rooted in actual Polynesian traditions.
Throughout pre-production and rehearsal, we remained deeply connected to these traditions and wanted to connect audiences to the story as well as the culture!
For example, you will notice our human puppets have unique physical features. In our research of historical Samoan artwork, we took note of how the human form was depicted
You will witness a kaleidoscope of…shiny…colors and closely at scenery, costumes, and puppets. Every shape, texture,
So…Tapenapena! That is Samoan for “get ready”!
Let’s set sail together! Enjoy the show!
