On behalf of the Montgomery City Council and our staff, I warmly welcome you to our wonderful City. You may be familiar with our charming historic district, a place loaded with unique shops and one-of-akind dining options, and a small-town feel that is hard to find elsewhere. The City of Montgomery is dedicated to preserving its past while building for the future. We are proud to welcome dozens of new residents to our latest housing option, the luxury apartments at The Montgomery Quarter Residences, which is part of our mixed-use development Montgomery Quarter. The Montgomery Quarter also features office space that is now home to Pepsi, Creative Planning, Hellman’s Fine Men’s Clothier, and Fifth Third Private Banking. In addition, Montgomery has become a hub for food enthusiasts, with new dining options such as Kitchen Social, Bru Burger Bar, Kozue, Livery, and Deeper Roots Coffee, alongside well-established restaurants like Montgomery Inn and Carlo and Johnny.

We are proud of various economic development projects, including the Vintage Club of Montgomery and The Wicks, which are luxury single-floor condominium homes. Bethesda North Hospital has added an eighth floor and is working to improve the hospital’s entrance. Sycamore Community Schools has completed construction on a new junior high school, offering state-of-the-art learning spaces for students. New projects like these help Montgomery attract and retain businesses, contributing to the City’s long-term stability while maintaining its small-town historic feel.

Our enthusiasm and shared commitment among the Montgomery City Council, staff, businesses, and residents have distinguished Montgomery from many other communities. As City Manager, I welcome you to the City of Montgomery and invite you to discover all our community has to offer. I am in my sixth year of leading this remarkable team. Our City Council and City Staff work diligently to provide exceptional services that make this community a welcoming, inclusive, and a safe place for everyone to live, work, or visit.

While we are known for our small-town charm with a historic downtown, tree-lined streets, and brick-paved sidewalks, we are working tirelessly to build our future for generations to come. We recently celebrated our new mixed-use development, adding new businesses, restaurants, and housing options to our City. The Montgomery Quarter project and our efforts to update our infrastructure will serve Montgomery well into the future.

Our City has always sought to be a welcoming place for our residents, business owners, and visitors. I am incredibly proud of the work done by the Montgomery Diversity and Inclusion Commission. Our Commission hosts various special events to promote community awareness and education about the diverse cultures living in Montgomery. For the third year in a row, Montgomery based Fifth Third Private Bank was named as the Best Private Bank for High Net Worth Clients by The Digital Banker and Global Private Banker as part of the Global Private Banking Innovation Awards. In addition, the Private Bank was awarded the Best Bank ESG Communication Strategy for the Americas.

The first Montgomery Inn restaurant, founded by locals Ted and Matula Gregory, opened here in 1951. It wasn’t long until Matula’s BBQ sauce and ribs drew everyone from Johnny Cash and June Carter to Bob Hope and Britney Spears.

Montgomery City Council and staff are committed to being change agents in destigmatizing mental illness and increasing awareness, advocacy, and education of mental health and wellbeing. The City has created programming, content, and outreach efforts to support.

Bethesda North Hospital is the City’s Top Employer and named as one of America’s Top Hospitals in 2024 for the 12th consecutive year by Healthgrades.

For the 29th consecutive year, Montgomery was named a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation. They’ve also received the Foundation’s “Growth Award” for 26 consecutive years.

The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) awarded the City the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its Annual Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (ACFR) for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2022. This award is a great honor for the City of Montgomery, as it is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting. The year 2023 represents the 27th consecutive year the City has received this award.

Montgomery was awarded the 2021 Healthy Worksite Platinum Award which is the highest honor granted by the Healthy Business Council of Ohio.

Montgomery was named “Top Workplace” in 2024 by the Cincinnati Enquirer—this is the sixth year in a row the City has received this honor.

QUESTIONS ABOUT MONTGOMERY QUARTER—AND WE’VE GOT ANSWERS.

In the last few decades, families have flocked to Montgomery for its historic charm, proximity to nearby job centers, top-tier schools, and distinct small-town sensibility.

That has increased the town’s need for businesses, traffic redirects (hooray for traffic circles!), and amenities. As the city builds toward a better and brighter future, residents and visitors have found themselves wondering about a few things. Luckily, we have answers!

WHAT IS ALL THIS CONSTRUCTION?

This “construction in Montgomery” has a name—the Montgomery Quarter—and it’s a carefully detailed plan for the notso-sleepy suburb. The Montgomery Quarter is a two-phase plan of development and growth, wherein residents, officials, and city planners are working together to build a brighter and better Montgomery. Once completed, “[The Quarter] will be a magnifi cent southern gateway to our Montgomery community and create an inviting space for everyone to enjoy,” says Assistant City Manager Tracy Henao.

WHY IS IT TAKING SO LONG?

The development team of Brandicorp, Neyer Properties, and Jeffery R. Anderson Real Estate, Inc. is working hard to bring this premier $150 million mixed-use development project to life, though Henao adds that a project of this size and scope will take years to complete.

Happily, Henao reports that Phase I of the Montgomery Quarter is “right on track”—and work has already been completed on site utilities for Phase II, the latter of which will bring additional apartments, restaurants, and entertainment to the development. Base asphalt has also been put down for a new street to connect the Quarter to the roundabout at Montgomery Road and Ronald Regan Cross County Highway, helping redirect and ease the flow of traffic through the area.

WHEN IS THE HOTEL GOING TO OPEN?

Looking ahead, the development team has secured The Tapestry by Hilton brand for the Quarter’s boutique hotel, which will be named The Rambler Hotel. The Rambler will feature multiple event spaces, a uniquely designed lobby bar named Sidecar, and luxury guest rooms. Construction of the boutique hotel is underway with a targeted open date of fall 2025.

WHAT’S OPEN NOW?

As for what’s open now, there are many businesses up and running at the Montgomery Quarter: Fifth Third Private Bank, Unlimited Systems, Creative Planning, AHEAD, PepsiCo, and Hellman Clothiers all have locations at the new development; meanwhile, four restaurants, including Bru Burger, Livery, Kitchen Social, and Kozue are open, too, along with Deeper Roots Coffee. But that’s not all: “The development team is

working on a lease for another restaurant that will hopefully be announced soon,” says Henao.

Perhaps most exciting for residents is the new public gathering space located in the center of the development. Programmed with events such as festivals, concerts, yoga, and other gatherings, it’s quickly becoming a destination in the City—a microcosm of the kind of community-minded place Montgomery is.

and development. “It contains goals and objectives and directs how the community moves toward a unified development vision,” explains Henao.

Right now, the City is working with consultant Yard and Company to help create an updated comprehensive plan, says Henao, who adds that Montgomery’s last plan was completed in 2007. “Since then, more people have sought access to our historic charm, proximity to nearby job centers, toptier schools, and Montgomery’s small-

town quality of life; this renewed interest in Montgomery has brought forth unique challenges that can be addressed during a comprehensive plan process.”

The Comprehensive Plan is beginning its third phase, which will develop focus area recommendations with supporting graphics and deliver implementation steps in a final plan. “Once the plan is approved by the Steering Committee, Planning Commission, and City Council, the City will begin working on updates to the Zoning Code to ensure that the zoning regulations help us achieve the goals established in the Comprehensive Plan,” Henao says. Start your day with a piping hot cup of coffee at Deeper Roots Fun fact: this locally owned coffee shop actually got its start at the Montgomery Farmers’ Market and now has several locations in Greater Cincinnati!

Nothing beats brunch at Kitchen Social; whether you’re into a savory breakfast taco or sinfully sweet French toast. Satisfy a sweet tooth with opera creams from Aglamesis, or buckeyes (and brownies!) from Haute Chocolate

When lunchtime rolls around, order a classic burger and fries at BruBurger, or enjoy a plantpowered meal with one of the many vegan(!) options on the menu. Bones Burgers, home to the goetta-fied “Breakfast on a Bun,” brings a little morning flavor to your lunch burger.

Those looking for something light and healthy should definitely visit Kozue, a sushi and ramen restaurant that’s quickly become a local favorite. Folks rave about the octopus sushi. Or head to Sukhothai for the to-die-for Spicy Thai Chicken Salad. The Crispy Duck is a must-try for adventurous palates.

The Montgomery Inn ribs (with bibs!) are iconic. Of course, the best way to coexist with ribs royalty is to do ’cue a different way, and the pitmasters at Montgomery Towne Tavern have mastered the art of smoked barbecue.

Spice things up with a meal at Latin-inspired Livery, which is rumored to serve some of the best cocktails in town. Montgomery mainstay Stone Creek Dining Company delivers everything from creative craft cocktails to perfect prime rib. Carlo and Johnny (part of the Jeff Ruby empire), is the best place for a proper steak dinner.

Montgomery has two new boutique gift shops open sideby-side in historic buildings on Cooper Road. Gilded Indigo offers hand-selected antiques, fine jewelry, and artwork, while Lilac and Lily focuses on women’s fashion for every season. Founded in 1940, James Free Jewelers brings decades of experience to your jewelry and timepiece shopping.

Those looking for interior design inspo should head to Visual Comfort and Company, on Montgomery Road and offers a broad range of designer lighting sure to give your space the perfect Insta filter. From furniture and accessories to wallpaper and window treatments, the experts at Hoffman & Albers Interiors can help you make your home an oasis of comfort.

In the world of wellness, residents can shake things up with a yoga class at Playlist Yoga, try contrast therapy at Contrast Studios , or revive, rejuvenate and recover at IV Wellness. MONTGOMERY OFFERS MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCES FOR RESIDENTS AND FIRST RESPONDERS.

Mental health and wellness is a growing concern in families and communities across the country; the 2020 pandemic created a “call to action” to address these issues. A community dedicated to its families and residents, “Montgomery City Council and staff are committed to being change agents in de-stigmatizing mental illness and increasing awareness, advocacy, and education of mental health and well-being,” says Brian Riblet, Montgomery’s city manager. The City has hosted several programs, created fresh content, and participated in myriad outreach efforts to support this initiative, including a very popular Mental Health Fair. “This is a nontraditional role for government,” says Riblet, “but Montgomery has always been a leader in municipal governance, and mental health awareness is more important than ever.”

To that “nontraditional” end, Montgomery has added a compassionate canine to its city payroll. Asha is a standard poodle and therapy dog who will be working closely with Montgomery staff; she reports to work

at the Montgomery Safety Center. While available to all staff, Riblet says Asha will be particularly helpful to first responders. “They are constantly prepared to handle emergencies, and the City understands that the stress and strain of their demanding careers can impact their mental wellbeing.” This is where Asha steps in, providing a source of comfort and emotional support after a challenging call. “As Asha gets [more] comfortable with her role in the City, we will offer residents opportunities to meet her at community events and activities,” Riblet adds.

Most recently, the City has partnered with Care Solace to continue its commitment to providing accessible mental health and community-based resources for residents. As a central hub of care, Care Solace serves as a critical liaison between first responders, justice systems, social agencies, and mental health providers. With a team of 500+ dedicated Care Companions, Care Solace can quickly connect Montgomery residents to mental health care and substance use treatment. Available 24/7/365, Care Companions assist in over 200 languages and navigate the challenges of finding care on behalf of residents, helping them find the perfect fit for their needs.

Of course, Mother Nature is often touted as the best medicine, and Montgomery’s park system consists of over 96 acres of green space to

help residents connect with nature and improve their mental health. In total, there are six parks, playgrounds, sports fi elds, a nature preserve, and even a fishing pond within the City; the parks are connected by over 30 miles of sidewalks, allowing easy access for all residents.

And in the spirit of connection and community, Montgomery hosts many wonderful events to bring folks together, including an Independence Day Parade & Festival, Bastille Day, Harvest Moon, Vegas in the Village, and Holiday in the Village. These events are open to everyone and offer visitors a glimpse of magic that is life in Montgomery, Ohio.

Lastly, Riblet adds that volunteering is another great way to meet new people, boost mental health, and feel connected to the community. “There are a variety of [volunteer] opportunities for people of all ages and abilities. You can work with others to make a meaningful contribution for a healthy and vibrant community.”
