SEED GUIDE
Dear Friends,
Another challenging year for a plethora of reasons but we have all made it through it! The tenacity of farmers and small business owners are who keeps this great country moving; it’s most certainly not big government and big corporations that do so. The last year has been challenging, yet rewarding at the same time.
Seed Genetics Direct has had another year of explosive growth. Corn and Soybean sales were both increased 12.5% over last year’s sales. We couldn’t thank our customers and friends enough but we know that we can’t sit still! While “big” companies are shutting down seed companies under their umbrella and closing down seed conditioning facilities, Seed Genetics Direct will be breaking ground this summer on a new soybean conditioning plant. Th is will allow us to vertically integrate and control costs. Exciting news!
Last year, we made the decision to remove the insecticide from our soybean treatment and add a growth promoter as well as an inoculant. This change was spurred on by customers asking if there was a benefit to having insecticide on the beans. After reviewing a multi-year and multi-university study, that stated there was little to no benefit of neonicotinoids on soybeans, we decided to remove insecticide from our soybean treatment. One of the many researchers on the project, Shawn Conley, State Soybean and Small Grain Specialist at the University of Wisconsin took notice by stating, “Seed Genetics citing our work and removing insecticides from their soybean seed treatment is #coolbeans.” We have had a mountain of positive feedback from this change, we have also decided to remove
the insecticide from our wheat treatment package. For a premium add-on treatment, we have added Ceramax to our already powerful combination of Trunemco + Heads Up. This is an all-in treatment that is going to protect the beans with multiple modes of action against cyst nematodes, sudden death and white mold. This combo is called Protec S8+.
This year, we have the best lineup we’ve had in our young history. We have added 9 new corn hybrids and 7 new soybean varieties. We are also introducing the Entreppid™ brand for our soybeans, this aligns with our numbering system and will allow us to sell beans across a wider geographic footprint.
Lastly, we have signed an agreement with Professional Seed Research (PSR) out of Sugar Grove, IL. PSR has a proprietary method that
they can rapidly develop new inbred corn lines in just one year. Our agreement allows us to test, access, and sub-license new lines that can be advanced into our line-up on the conventional corn side quickly.
Thank you for working with us and we are excited for what the future holds.

CORN POPULATION CHECK
Length of row equal to 1/1000 acre at different row widths:
CORN REPLANT FACTORS
Before you replant, determine the net gain versus expenses incurred by:
1. Determining the number of plants per 1/1000 acre at several sites within field (see “Corn Population Check” above)
2. Comparing the estimated yield of the original planting date/existing corn versus that of likely replanting date (see “Corn Stand Evaluation/Yield Potential” chart below)
3. Considering estimated replanting costs (fuel, herbicide, insecticide, labor, etc.)
4. Comparing estimated market prices for normal yield and replant yield

SOYBEAN PLANTING CHART
SOYBEAN REPLANT FACTORS
Before you replant, determine the net gain versus expenses incurred by:
1. Evaluating the population and uniformity of the remaining stand (see “Soybean Stand Counts” chart on page 87)
2. Comparing the estimated yield of the existing stand versus that of replanted crop (see “Soybean Yield Effects from Reduced Plant Populations” chart on page 88 and “Soybean Delayed Planting” chart on page 85)
3. Considering estimated replanting costs (fuel, weed control, labor, etc.)
To determine the stand using the loop method, toss a perfectly round hoop in at least 10 randomly selected locations within a field or where the plant stand is low. Count the plants within each hoop, then refer to the chart on the previous page. If you do not have a hoop, measure one square yard, count the plants, then refer to the chart on the previous page.
EXAMPLES: If you count 31 plants per square yard, the plant population is 150,000 per acre. If you count 24 plants inside a loop with a 34" diameter, the plant population is 166,000 per acre.
