AMERICORPS SERVING SUNCOAST SENIORS PROGRAM OVERVIEW: Senior Friendship Centers is looking for AmeriCorps members for service opportunities that begin Aug. 1, 2013 and end Jul. 31, 2014. The positions require service-minded U.S. citizens or residents who are at least 18 years of age. To be considered, you must have reliable transportation and computer skills. You must pass a background screening and a drug test and you must be able to commit to the position for one year. Positions require an average of 36 hours per week and come with free health insurance and a $476 stipend every two weeks. Upon successful completion of the program, you'll receive a $5,500 education award. If it's a good fit, you may apply to extend your service for another year. Applications will be considered for other positions that open up including those in other departments and locations where we serve (Sarasota, Arcadia, Venice, Punta Gorda, and Ft. Myers). Serves with Nutrition Coordinator to order, package and deliver congregate meals to dining site. Assures the accurate compilation and submission of weekly reports on participants at dining sites. Participate in departmental outreach as necessary. Coordinates activities, special events, and similar activities as appropriate for dining site Conducts assessments with new participants as appropriate Recruit and supervise volunteers. Support and contribute to program performance measures. Must comply with all Senior Friendship Centers Personnel Policies. Must protect the safety and health of staff and others. Must observe and follow the provisions of the Senior Friendship Centers accident prevention, safety and reporting of injury, accident and incident policies as described in the Employee Handbook and Department Safety Rules.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Receives assignments from Site Supervisor and AmeriCorps Program Director. Work is reviewed on a weekly basis at reflection meetings, through review of logs, and through interviews of clients and other staff members. SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Volunteers QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Education, experience, and training: Position is for a US citizen or resident aged 18+ who possesses a GED or high school diploma and a strong service ethic. National Sexual Offender Public Registry and Level 2 background screenings required. Florida driver’s license and proof of insurance or reliable means of transportation required. Ability to express oneself effectively with diverse populations in writing and verbally (whether in person or on the phone) and experience in positions with the elderly encouraged. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office products is critical. Physical Requirements: Substance abuse and TB testing is required.
