Hello Everyone ‌ Editor’s Blurb

We have all survived another month, I hope everyone had a great Easter break spending time with family and friends. April 25th is Anzac, a time to remember all those that fought for our freedom, and those that did not return home to their families. Anzac Day is one of the most respected days by many young and old. It is an honour to attend the dawn parade sharing our thanks to the veterans. Mount Maunganui people are lucky to have such an awesome spot to celebrate Anzac Day. A beachline of people around the cenotaph, a deep warming feeling of the trumpeter “The last postâ€? guns and the war planes flying over the huge crowd. Such a beautiful service followed by hot toddy's at the Mount Maunganui RSA. This is very much a day bringing people together as one. Fact: we are closer to half way through the year than the beginning. What a scary thought. Newly mustered Kaimanawa Wild Horses looking for great new homes… Due to the upcoming muster of Kaimanawa wild horses around one hundred wild horses will require homes to be found. The muster is to take place at the end of April so time is of the essence. The horses unlucky enough not to have been found homes are sent directly to slaughter. The muster is earlier than usual so there will be many mares with foals at foot. Kaimanawa horses have proven themselves as very trainable once they have been given time to adapt to their new lives. Their brains are well developed due to having survived in the wild – this contributes to their ‘X factor’ - they learn quickly and are usually very sensible. Coming into domestication is a big deal for these horses. They haven’t encountered anything that domestic horses and people take for granted, but with understanding of where they have come from, and how much they have lost, and being treated kindly and respectfully, they transform into the most wonderful of horses. Once the Kaimanawa’s trust has been gained, they become the friendliest and honest creatures. If you think you can offer a great home or assist with some sponsorship towards helping save our Kaimanawas please contact: muster@kaimanawaheritagehorses.org

Tattoo’s

In a lot of trades, it is common for the consumer to just hire the first person they come across due to connivance or price it could even be from a friend referral. This I feel in the tattoo industry or in any industry for that matter, that this is not the wisest of actions. For example, within every field there are specialist’s fields that only certain people can do well. This applies very much so when seeking out the correct artist to do the tattoo you have dreamed about. The term “A spade is a spade "couldn't be more wrong. Within the tattoo field there are so many types of style as there is in dancing. The outcome of the tattoo all depends on the artist them self's preferred style. For example, a traditional style tattoo artist will not do a realism piece as well as a realism artist sees an image and also what they have been taught are completely different approaches. Executing the design correctly takes a lot of thought and preparation. You do not just wing a tattoo each style has their differences and techniques which make them differ from the rest. Not many artists master them all, also a lot just prefer one type of style day in and day out. So now what? How do I do to choose my artist? I have a way and from my experiences I feel that this is the client’s responsibility so hopefully this will shed some light. Firstly, gather your references to show the artists into a clear file. (you must print them out) Make sure you know the style, colour, size and body position. Secondly to eliminate 80% of the risks don’t go to home artists that are unproven or haven't had previous shop experience. Don’t get me wrong there are some top home based artists out there but a big percentage are rubbish. As the receptionist who specializes in the certain style of the tattoo you want. Then ask to see some recent work, get your clear file out with your printed images and compare the artist’s work to the images that you gathered. Does it give that feel and look the images you like do? Does it even look good? Do they use similar colours to the ones you like? Are there outlines around everything or is it all nicely shaded and coloured like the references you have? All these are deciding factors on whether or not this is the artist for your particular tattoo. Once you have found a sure thing and you are happy by looking and comparing the work from the artist to the images that you gathered its time to talk business. It’s nice to know a figure of money right from the start. Don’t be shy to say what you are willing to spend, this will narrow the conversation down and save everyone time. Prices range from $100-$200 an hour, money is defiantly the hot topic but it shouldn't be, making sure the artist is confident willing and able should be more the concern. So many times I have done consultations where the client couldn't careless if I was capable, they just wanted it cheap? And that’s where the topic of conversation stayed. Often those people come back to me later on wanting a cheap tattoo fixed because they got their mate to do it for $50 …They don’t seem to worry about the price this time. If you are a really fussy person, the artist will usually draw up a rough sketch beforehand for a fee, prices differ between shops but a good safe proof. Hopefully this helps a little and guides those seeking the perfect tattoo in the right direction. Remember to compare, references and shop around. If you know what you are looking for and have your heart set on it, it’s worth doing right so it’s a good idea to save up and research until you are certain the artist can do the job and more importantly wants to do the job!!!

ARE YOU AN ACOHOLIC If your drinking had reached the point where it worries you a bit, you may be interested in knowing something about Alcoholics Anonymous and the A.A. program of recovery from alcoholism. Determine, for yourself, whether or not alcohol had truly become a problem for you. And remember that you will always be welcome to join the thousands of men and women in A.A. who have put their drinking problems behind them and now lead "normal" lives of constructive, day- by-day sobriety. We in A.A. are men and women who have discovered, and admitted, that we cannot control alcohol. A few of us had become derelicts before turning to A.A. for help. Some of us had been hospitalized or jailed. We had committed grave offenses against society, our families, our employers, and ourselves. Others among us have never been jailed or hospitalized. Nor have we lost jobs or families though drinking. But we finally came to a point where we realized that alcohol was interfering with normal living. When we discovered that we could not live without alcohol, we, too, sought help through A.A. Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. A.A. is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety. It is amazing how some people can judge another's when they have never met that person or know them. This shows insecurity in their own life. Sought your own closet of crap before you judge others. The hurt and losses you cause can be hurtful and damaging to peoples relationships. “The self-righteous scream judgments against others to hide the noise of skeletons dancing in their own closets.” ― John Mark Green

“Faultfinders will not be able to humble themselves to repent of their own sins because they are too busy looking at the sins of others.” ― Greg Gordon “Those who are critical don’t like being criticized, and those who are insensitive have a deficiency in their senses.” ― Suzy Kassem

“Clean your home first before complaining about others.” ― Debasish Mridha

“Who are you to judge the life I live? I know I'm not perfect -and I don't live to bebut before you start pointing fingers... make sure you hands are clean!” ― Bob Marley “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you — [Matthew 7:1-2]” “When you judge others, you do not define them, you define yourself” ― Earl Nightingale “Never judge someone's character based on the words of another. Instead, study the motives behind the words of the person casting the bad judgment.” ― Suzy Kassem,

DRINK DRIVING

A Crystal Meth Poem

We have all been warned about drink driving. We all know we are not to drink & drive …!!! As the ads on the TV say …. DON’T BE A BLOODY IDIOT!

If my glamorous lifestyle is appealing to you. And you want to try me because you've nothing to lose. Then, let me give you a bit of advice. You are a fool. And you'd better think twice.

Have your party's enjoy your friends and celebrate holidays but use your brains and organise your travel home or stay at your friend’s place.

I destroy homes. I tear families apart. I take your children and that's just the start. I'm more valued than diamonds. More precious than gold. The sorrow I bring is a sight to behold.

Taxis are available and in the end are cheaper than a drink driving ticket, loss of licence or living with the fact you have injured or killed another person.

Remember if you kill another person or yourself you HURT & WRECK so many people’s lives.

If you need me, remember; I'm easily found. I live all around you. In school and in town. I live with the rich. I live with the poor. I live just down the road. And maybe next door.

Too Late!!! You idiot Hope you enjoyed your drinks? Hope you can live with this?

I'm made in a lab, but not in one like you think. I can be made under your kitchen sink. Or in your child's closet and even out in the woods. If this scares you to death, It certainly should.

Just try me once and I might let you go. But if you try me twice, then I own your soul.

Will

.

.

Parents teach your children as mush as you can about safety when going out, lay down boundary's they wont want to listen, but don’t give up there are too many dangers in the todays world. Drugs and alcohol can ruin their life's before they are aware of any problems. Know who they are going out with and where they are going and when they will e home.

I take kids from their parents. I take parents from kids. I turn people from God. I separate friends. I'll take everything from you; Even your good looks and your pride. I'll be with you always. Right here by your side.

If you try me be warned: THIS IS NOT A GAME. If I'm given the chance, I'll drive you insane. I'll ravage your body. I'll control your mind. I'll own you completely. Your soul will be mine.

Our Vision: A community where grandparents raising grandchildren are empowered to provide a safe, secure and nurturing home for their grandchildren. Our Purpose: To provide support services to grandparents raising grandchildren to protect and promote the well being of children in their care. Our Values: Family is everything . Knowledge is strength Children are our taoga (treasure) Regards, Karen Ormsby ,… Tauranga coordinator for GRG. … Phone: 0212255108 .

You'll lie to your mother. You'll steal from your dad. When you see their tears you must not feel sad. Just forget your morals and how you were raised. I'll be your conscious. I'll teach you my ways.

You'll give up everything; Your family, your home Your money, your friends, You'll be all alone. I'll take and I'll take 'Til you've no more to give. When I'm finished with you, you'll be lucky to live.

Grandparents Raising Grandchildren.

Who we are: For most grandparents, raising grandchildren is a result of an unexpected and traumatic event that requires a significant readjustment to their lives and those of their grandchildren. Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Trust NZ is a unique organisation that has a deep understanding of both the benefits of grandchildren being raised by their grandparents and the challenges it can present. We provide support services to grandparents who are raising their grandchildren on a full time basis. .

I have many names, but there's one you'll know best. I'm sure you've heard of me. My name's Crystal Meth. My power is awesome. Try me you'll see. But if you do, You may never break free.

When I posses you, You'll steal and lie. You'll do what you have to Just to get high. The crimes you'll commit, For my narcotic charms be worth the pleasure, You'll feel in my arms.

Recognising Dangerous Dating Teen dating violence is a serious issue for young people, many of whom don’t recognise the signs of danger in their relationships. Warning signs are often psychological and can include: excessive texting to check up where they are and .what they are doing; being verbally aggressive; being jealous when they talk to someone else; isolating them from their friends; name calling; needing to be with them all the time; putting down their .friends. If you see these signs in a young person’s relationship, you can gently support them to understand that these are warning signs that could indicate a more serious problem. Family Works have professionally trained Child Advocates who have access to youth resources that work with young people help them understand what is going on in their relationships. If you have concerns, please feel free to call and ask for the Child and Young Persons Advocate at the Hillier Centre on 575 9709.

Disasters such as earthquakes (and tsunamis) can strike at any time, sometimes without warning and have the potential to cause disruption, damage property and take lives. Everyone in New Zealand should know the right actions to take during an earthquake, which is DROP COVER HOLD. Know the SAFE PLACES IN AN EARTHQUAKE Somewhere close to you, no more than a few steps or less than three metres away, to avoid injury from flying debris. Under a strong table. Hold on to the table legs to keep it from moving away from you. Next to an interior wall, away from windows that can shatter and cause injury and tall furniture that can fall on you. Protect your head and neck with your arms. Keep in mind that in modern homes, doorways are no stronger than any other part of the structure and usually have doors that can swing and injure you. DROP, COVER, HOLD Also remember that an earthquake is the best warning of an impending tsunami, so if you live by the coast it’s important to remember LONG STRONG AND GONE… If an earthquake lasts longer than a minute and is strong enough to know you off your feet… you should head inland or to high ground. You should not wait for an official warning. LONG, STRONG, GONE Plan ahead for what you would do if you were in your car when a disaster strikes. In some emergencies you could be stranded in your vehicle for some time. Consider having essential emergency survival items in your car such as drinking water, muesli bars (other snacks), a torch, warm clothing and a blanket. Your car radio will enable you to stay up to date with emergency information, so it is important to try and keep the car full of fuel as often as possible. When planning travel, keep up to date on the weather at www.metservice.com and for roading information (such as road closures or works) visit New Zealand Transport Agency at www.nzta.govt.nz Remember, disasters can happen at any time and anywhere, so stay prepared. FAMILY VIOLENCE CAN HARM YOUR CHILD FOR LIFE

Babies and infants are precious. Everything babies and toddlers experience affects their brains forever. The way you treat your children counts – and it counts long term. Children are not tough. They are not too young to notice. They do not just get over it. Love care and attention will help children to become happy and stable adults. Shouting, hitting, violence, abuse and ignoring your child have a very bad effect on your baby’s and young child’s brain development. This can cause problems later at school; as teenagers; as adults. Parenting can be tough but one of the most important things you can do is provide a safe home, calm and free from violence for your children. If you get early help the risk of the children suffering long term effects will be less. To get help talk to someone you trust. A support agency that helps family's. IT’S NEVER TOO LATE TO ASK FOR HELP …. IF YOU NEED HELP YOU MUST ASK FOR IT … IT’S NOT OK … HELP STOP THE CYCLE OF ABUSE.

Thumbs Down … Violence!!! By Wendy R

How and why has the human race lost respect for each other. We have become a race that is embarrassing to belong to. Booze, Drugs, Sex and the greed for money and possessions. The violence in the family's/whanau has become increasingly violent with the use of weapons causing injury's and death. Violence is within all ages both men and women with the safety of children at risk. Why??? Why are humans so ruthless, uncaring, angry and why do humans think drugs and alcohol fix everything. One knows when they are doing wrong, they know right from wrong but continue to abuse, fight, argue and cause damage to others property. There is no value on a persons life no remorse for the taking of a life. Come on New Zealand time to wake up … We are in trouble , big trouble time to find answers … we need the answers to clean up this crap. What happen to “Love and caring for each other”?

So your little cherub is going out! YAY says parents time to chill out; they are out of our hair for a few hours. But does anyone think to have a conversation about driving ability with the driver? My kids still retell THE ride; years ago they had with someone’s mother….. I think next time the friend asked we jumped at the opportunity to drive them all to wherever they needed to go….. Recently we saw a photo of some clown being towed by a car while riding on his skateboard down the road….but not any road on some random bit of earth; this was on OUR BIT, on Oceanbeach road! Recently we hear that some Government official has been caught selling drivers licences in Auckland…well at least that is THEIR bit, not ours. I guess just because they have a drivers licence may not make them a safe driver, after all some of us ‘oldies’ may not pass todays licence either! Seriously though, what do you do as a parent if you don’t think the driver is safe? It is tricky and it’s not just with teenage people I once was told about how a group ladies who bowl were trying to manage a similar situation where one or two were not happy with someone’s driving. So……sometimes you as the parent just need to be the ‘bad guy’. Allow your child to ‘blame’ you for not letting them ride with Mary Beth or whoever it is. However as parents be ready to play taxi driver and get out and support your young person is having a social life! The good thing is that you can control a little bit more of the time they come home, as you need to go to bed yourself. Nigel Latta has several stories about collecting kids from parties, the ultimate consequence for a cherub not getting into the car when planed or when you text them (however be a bit reasonable) is for Mother or Father to turn up at the party in their dressing gown and curlers, or dressed up like they are going to a 70’s party and get their ‘grove’ on with all the others. Fastest way I can think of to get your kid into the car and it’s a great wedding story as well! Getting back to what your kid does with a bad driver, allow them to have space to talk to you about it, or make a point of asking them especially if it’s a new friend or a new driver about their ability, behind the wheel. And then maybe together build or create some plans to get into a safe ride. As for the clown on the skateboard, well some of his mates will think he is Da Man. I somehow can’t see his mates being ready to help him with his personal care in the future should a serious accident have occurred. At times I’m pleased I’m the age I am, there was no social media around when I was young and dumb. Have a great month Donald Welsh

Cancer Check Ups

Being part of the National Cervical Screening Programme and having cervical smear tests every three years can prevent cervical cancer. A cervical smear test shows if there are abnormal changes in cells on the surface of the cervix. All women aged 20 until they turn 70 who have ever been sexually active should have regular smear tests. Girls se you have yours. Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer, and the third most common cause of cancer deaths, among New Zealand men. Around 1 in 10 New Zealand men will develop prostate cancer at some stage in their lifetime prostate cancer in New Zealand appears to be increasing. Guys have your check ups.

Enjoying the Good Life? ‘The Good Life’ is certainly what many of us experience living in such a beautiful part of the world. As a concept, the notion of a good life as a way of articulating that there are some things that tend to make life good and some things that tend to make life not so good, is one worth a moments pause. This is so for many reasons including the fact that not every person’s experience of life and community is the same.

One cohort of people who are often denied or struggle to attain the good things of life are disabled persons and their family /whanau. A lived experience of disability can have profound implications for one’s ability to have a good life.

Local Area Coordination (LAC) is a free community service that walks alongside disabled persons / family / whanau as they envisage, plan for and work towards building their own personal good life. If you would like to know more about how (LAC) can assist you personally or you have some time and energy to assist others, we’d love to hear from you.

Civil Defence TXT Alerts

Have you subscribed to receive text alerts? Text alerting is just one of several platforms that Bay of Plenty Civil Defence uses to alert and inform the community. Anyone can subscribe for free to the text and email alerting system through the Bay of Plenty Civil Defence website www.BOPCivilDefence.govt.nz, or text the two letters for the area you live to 2028 (a one off 20c text fee applies). The texts will be sent only for serious threats to life and property, such as National tsunami warnings, and in the event of major earthquakes or volcanic eruptions, where time is of the essence in getting people to take action. You will not be inundated with texts as this system will only be used for significant threats to life or property where time is critical. Civil Defence will continue to use media, the website and social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter for other alerts, warnings and general information/public education. Even if you live out of the region but have friends, family or property and business interests in the Bay, you may wish to sign up for text and email alerts. Nowadays most people have a cellphone, from children to the elderly, and this is just one other way you can stay informed and updated if something happens. Get all your family, friends, neighbours and workmates to sign up, and be better prepared in the event of an emergency. Trespassing an unwanted person.

If a person is not welcome, the most common trespass is where you give the person a written notice stating they are trespassed from the property or premises. It is dated, name of the person trespassed, the place of trespass is noted and a reason signed by the person trespassing the offender. You then send a copy of the trespass to the police where it is lodged. If that person comes back to the property or premises you then ring and report it to the police, they then deal with the offending person. A verbal trespass is where you verbally trespass a person from the property or premises. You forward the details to the police to lodge and if the offender returns you ring the police to deal with the situation. Anybody can trespass a person from their property or premises.

Mobile Phones: … DANGER

Here's a little info that might be worth knowing recently I saw a warning on Facebook about having mobile phones in your bed. The article showed that the phone had been smouldering under the pillow and burnt a hole in the pillow while the person was sleeping. It is recommended not to take your phone device to bed with you. We all know how attached we are to our electronic devices and the fact we can’t live with out them, but come on we don’t have to start a new trend of sleep chats … put your phone away on charge and go to bed and sleep, your txt message can wait a few hours. So while we are on the cell phone talk you also need to remember not to use them around the petrol stations. Phones work off frequencies and care must be taken just like when you board a plane you are asked to turn off all your phones and devices for safety reasons. So come on the human race lets get responsible and apply the safety rules cause you never know if and when your phone may be having a crises and packing a poo with faulty mechanisms

TXT DRIVING OMG how many times do you have to be told DON’T TXT WHEN DRIVING!!!

Why are people so thick regarding this message. What don’t they understand how much danger they are putting themselves and others in by driving with eyes off the road. Come on people don’t be so bloody stupid … there is enough advertising around warning you of the dangers but still you do it. You think it won’t and can’t happen to you… think again. Ads show you the mess, Facebook have messages and ads, TV show enough ads, Police tell you. Today I am passing people txting rrrr Don’t be an idiot and have to live with the fact you have killed a child, friend or family member!!!
