Think before you park If roads are blocked and a fire engine can't get through, time could be lost getting to a fire. It could mean the difference between life and death. Please don’t park on or next to fire hydrants, in front of exits, across access routes or in front of barriers. You stop a fire, ambulances and police getting through.

OLD GRUMPY’S GALLERY…… Happy April Everyone... And Welcome to Old Grumpy’s Gallery. And once again a big thanks to all of you who have visited us during March… Can you believe it a quarter of the year gone already… It only seems like yesterday that we were putting up our Christmas decorations… They say time passes quickly when you’re having fun… You may say “How does someone called Old Grumpy have fun…” Well just setting up the store each day provides plenty of amusement and interest… Many people stop and ask me if I have to put all of the books that we have on display back inside at night…!!!! How on earth would I be putting them out every morning if they were not going back in at the end of the day?... A little while ago a gentleman who had read our signs advertising “all books outside $1 each” decided that the chairs that the price tickets were fastened to were also for sale at $1 each… It was quite a delicate discussion trying to explain that he could not have his choice of four of our chairs for $1.00 each Then we had a nice American couple enquiring about the price of a violin in the window… Upon being told that the price was $300 they enquired about the price of the violin bow… They could not quite understand the humour upon being told that the bow was selling at $300 and that it came with a free violin…!!! After much head scratching and pointless reasoning they left without the violin and also the bow…!! It is always nice to hear good news… We were delighted to hear that one of our long standing and special customers has been appointed to a role with Mount Main Street… Alex Holmes takes up the challenge in April to help generate more visitors into the Mount through event organising and co-ordination… Alex who is a qualified secondary school teacher will be well suited to this role and is sure to be a great asset to Main Street… Good Luck Alex. We are sure all the businesses in Mount Main Street will give you their support... You can be assured of Old Grumpy’s… New to Old Grumpy’s Gallery this month are a range of POP-ART clocks…The clocks are made locally and feature the art work of Paul Regan… Not only Pop Art…. Let us make special personalised clocks for you and your family… With images of your children, grandchildren, pets… Just about any image you would like us to incorporate on to a clock…. Makes for a great gift… And very affordable…See our full page advert in this issue. Entertainment Book and Macular Degeneration NZ… Old Grumpy’s Gallery invite you all to join us in our support for Macular Degeneration NZ by simply purchasing your copy of The Entertainment Book through us. Please contact us for details of how to obtain your 2015/16 copy bob@oldgrumpys.co.nz or call 07 281 1256 We look forward to welcoming you in to our store during April….

What most people don’t know is that the shape of your nails can actually say a lot about you and your style. Below there will be six different types of nail shapes described. Stiletto nails are the newest trend in nails. They’re long and pointy at the tip. People who sport this style of nail are conscious of all the trends and don’t mind being in the spotlight. Super-Short People have this type of nails tend to be extremely low-maintenance and put very little effort into their style. This tends to be the jeans and a t shirt type of person. Squoval This type of nail shape is a mix between square and oval. Those have this shape aren’t into experimenting, and have likely had this nail shape for a long time. Their wardrobe tends to be classic, matching their nails perfectly. White nails aren’t the perfect indicator of who a person is or what type of style they have, it can be a good clue. So the next time you’re struggling to figure someone out, take a look at their nails and see what they can tell you! Vertically long: You’re a mild-tempered romanticist It is likely that your right brain is more well-developed, and you’re the highly imaginative type. Broad sideways: You’re a short-tempered theorist It is likely that your left brain is more well-developed, and you’re the highly eloquent type. You clearly verbalize what your think, and that gives people an impression that you’re straightforward and clear-cut. However, you tend to be impatient and short-tempered, so it might be a good idea to practice a little self-restraint at times. Rounded or egg-shaped: You’re a laid-back pacifist You’re the happy-go-lucky type who does things at your own pace. You’re very sociable, and whenever the people around you get into an argument, you’re always the first one to step in as a mediator. Squarish: You’re serious and hard-headed You’re the one with perseverance and guts; many men happen to fall under this type. Your serious attitude is a good thing, but your hard-headedness and inflexibility is like a flaw on a precious stone. Triangular or inverted triangle: You’re the sensitive genius You’re the provider of brand new ideas, and the one who always notices the minute details in things that others miss. People of the inverted triangle type can be a little pushy, while upright triangle types tend to be overly sensitive and can’t tolerate indiscreet people around them. Almond-shaped: You’re faithful and honest You have a vivid imagination and you’re kind and always sincere with people. You are very courteous and polite, but have low -tolerance, and tend to become short-tempered when it comes to things that you can’t accept. Sword-shaped: You’re the ambitious idealist You’re the type who woul hesitate to work hard to achieve your goals. As long as it’s something that will help you advance towards your ideals, you’ll do it, even if it’s something you dislike. However, you’re lacking in the cooperation department. You are also likely to feel impatient when dealing with people who are too relaxed and don’t keep up with you. For more information go to reSource: Zhaizhai News

CC’s Bay Of Plenty Community News Letter, Phone: 07 5755 181 ... Email: ccsbopcommunitynewsletter@gmail.com (Page 5) A Little Harmless Drinking Author Unknowen You turn on your car and put your foot on the clutch. I'm sober, you think, I didn't have very much. You pull onto the road with me by your side, taking occasional sips as you enjoy the ride. Then the brakes on the car in front of you squeal. You try hard to stop, but lose control of the wheel. You skid off the road, and you know you have crashed. The dashboard is shattered, the windshield is smashed. Minutes like hours, You're in treacherous pain that washes the senses, envelops your brain. The screams all around you are faint to your ears, as life flashes before you, your hopes and your fears. Minutes like hours, you plead and you pray, I'll never touch it again, just let me live one more day. Your mind starts to go dark, it falls apart piece by piece. And then you slip into blackness, the pain has finally ceased. Before you entered that store, you should have thought twice, for I am the substance that cost you your life. A Little Harmless Drinking This poem says it all, I hope this has an impact on people to make them think about drink driving DRINK DRIVING!!! We are told and told we see ads on TV and very realistic ads, Police warnings, we lose our licences /pay fines … SO Why is it that until someone is hurt or killed this message has not sunk in??? Why are people so thick and stupid??? IT’S TOO LATE So I am going to very blunt Drivers get your shit together you drink DONT DRIVE Don’t wait till it is a Reality that YOU have wrecked people’s lives forever!
Looking Through New Eyes If we learn and grow from our mistakes, then they aren't mistakes. If you haven’t made any mistakes lately, you must be doing things wrong. Humans were not born to be perfect. We were born to learn, to grow, to expand, to love, to create, to enjoy, and to see the beauty in all things. Life is like a dance. There is no wrong It’s your dance. Every day it’s a new dance for all of us. Trust your own rhythm. Focus on the miracles of NOW. We constantly focus on the future waiting for the big moment when our goals, dreams and desires will be fulfilled. If you see your tasks as drudgery, then they are drudgery. If you see them as a gift of the universe coming through you then your tasks are done in the spirit of love and generosity. While chasing your dreams don’t forget to keep some time aside for you to relax
Poems From The Heart On The Inside. By Georgia Rose I have come across this lady Georgia Rose who has done time on the inside. These poems reflect her life, thoughts and feelings. Dedicated to her family who do the hard time on the outside. Thank you Georgia for sharing with us
Outside To be judged by society is the price we pay for doing time. I have feelings just like you, I have hopes and dreams too. I may have done time and not fit the mould like you like, but please don’t cast the stone too far, or judge me with prejudice where maybe you shouldn't when I'm back on the outside. Remember your thoughts and actions reflect a lot on your inner self, not actually on me. Life on the inside and doing time.
Each month I will, share a poem in hopes it will make you take a moment to think and understand inmates and the inside life or supporting an inmate on the inside. The lives and futures of many people are affected in all ways children, wifes, husbands, relations and friends. Also the family pets, finances, and the futures. Love, trust relationships, marriages and commitments are tested and hard to hold onto from both the inside and outside life. Those working in corrections live between two worlds – prison life and the life over the wall. The question is – how do they balance these lives? How do correctional staff live in a secure detention facility for most of the day then pass through the gate and help their kids with their math homework? How can one person be two completely different people each day – an officer and a citizen? How can you remain healthy day in and day out when crossing the wall? Correctional environments take their toll on all who pass through the gates. When you walk into prison, you are immediately hit by the odor of bodies being housed together, the noise of voices trying to be heard, the sound of footsteps bouncing off iron and concrete walls, and the feeling of violence looming all around. You are literally on guard at all times. For some, this is where they live. For others, this is where they work. In todays world many family's are dealing in some way with prison If anyone has anything they would like to share email ccsbopcommunitynewsletter@gmail.com share your views we invite your input. Names are not required for safety and privacy of family members. Thank you to the person who sent this to share with our readers

Photos and Backups You may recall a recent news item that talked about printing your photos rather than just storing them on your computer. The theory was that the way the photos are stored on your computer may become obsolete and prevent you from being able to access them in the future. And while there is some truth to that, I would suggest that it would be several years before anything like that happened, and even then, there will be ways of converting the photos so that you can use them again. A more pressing problem for your photos, documents and other files is what happens if your computer or hard drive fails? In the event of a catastrophic computer failure, backups become essential to retrieving access to your important files. And if you don’t have a backup, then it becomes extremely difficult and expensive to recover files from a failed hard disk. Companies that specialise in recovering data charge thousands of dollars to recover files, which isn’t an option for everyone. There are a variety of methods to backup your computer an external hard disk, off-site to the cloud or a USB memory stick. All methods have pros and cons, but it is always better to have at least one backup than nothing at all. While creating husbands, God promised women that good and ideal husbands would be found in all corners of the world ......... then He made the earth round, and laughed and laughed and laughed. Dear Lord, I pray for Wisdom to understand my man; Love to forgive him; and Patience for his moods. Because, Lord, if I pray for Strength, I'll beat him to death. AMEN Wife: Give me some money. I want to buy a bra. Husband: Why? You have nothing to put in it! … Wife: You wear shorts! What four animals does a woman like to have in her house? A tiger in bed, a mink in her closet, a jaguar in her garage and a jackass to pay for it all. A man speaks frantically into the phone, "My wife is pregnant, and her contractions are only two minutes apart!" "Is this her first child?" the doctor queries. "No, you idiot!" the man shouts. "This is her husband!"
CC’s Bay Of Plenty Community News Letter, Phone: 021 501 200 ... Email: ccsbopcommunitynewsletter@gmail.com (Page 12) Saturday morning sport I don’t want to be the harbinger of gloom, but autumn is here as I see the TV adverts for winter sports. As I write this I look out on nearby sports fields where one day soon I’ll see the rugby and soccer posts getting put up ready for the upcoming winter season. Council is installing more floodlighting in several sport fields to accommodate winter sports better. Playing sport in the winter for some is a family tradition where the kids, teenagers and ‘older boys’ just sign onto the local club. For some parents it’s just too cold to drag yourself out of a warm bed and go freeze your butt off cheering from the side - line. In today’s world some kids (of all ages) need a shove to get them either off the PlayStation or out of bed on a Saturday morning. As much as electronic games can be argued teach resiliency and goal setting skills playing Saturday sport brings all of that and more. Getting out of bed early on a Saturday can help a parent get closer to their child, both parties can find conversation easier when there is a common topic (sport) and this may give both child and parent practice for difficult conversations that may need to happen later on. It can also give a space for same gender parents to have those awkward conversations about life. Taking their teammates in your car can also be useful as it shows them that you are willing to help them and assist them to be part of their team it can also give you some insights into their world, kids sometime forget there is an adult behind the wheel and start telling stories about each other. Just sit quietly and listen……something I struggle to do at times! Saturday morning sport helps you to connect to other parents doing the same thing, that is connecting with their kids. It can also, if you are brave enough, be an opportunity to make connections between parents, which may be useful if things go wrong, and as both parents have a common interest it might just lead to a lasting friendship, while I talk about parenting I’m well aware that adults also need to make friends along the way. Parents on the side-line need to remember the fair play rules for parents and spectators, no verbal abuse, leave the referee alone, and cheer both teams’ players when they make that remarkable play! Remember that your kid is just one cog in the wheel of the team and the team will survive if they aren’t there. Most high schools have a ‘must play for the school’ policy which I understand has closed club sport at that level. Regretfully this then leads to teenagers who have left school often stop playing when they are too old for the school team. Ask the school about which (if any) clubs do they feed into, or you can encourage the teenager to join a club after school has ended, some clubs might even come knocking on their door…if prompted! There is a well-used phrase among professional who deal with difficult teenagers and it’s this, ‘Get them into sport and keep them out of court’ Have a good month Donald Welsh, B.Couns PGDipCSW

Alcoholics Anonymous As we look back, we feel we had gone on drinking many years beyond the point where we could quit on our will power. If anyone questions whether he has entered this dangerous area, let him try leaving liquor alone for one year. If he is a real alcoholic and very far advanced, there is scant chance of success. We think few can stay dry anything like a year. Some will be drunk the day after making their resolutions, most of them within a few weeks. For those who are unable to drink moderately the question is how to stop altogether. Whether such a person can quit depends upon the extent to which he has already lost the power to choose whether he will drink or not. Many of us felt that we had plenty of character. There was a tremendous urge to cease forever. Yet we found it impossible. This is the baffling feature of alcoholism as we know it - this inability to leave it alone, no matter how great the necessity or wish. Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. A.A. is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety. For more information please call 0800 229 6757 or visit AA.org.nz You are welcome to attend an open meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous at 11 Victoria Road Mount Maunganui St Peters Hall every Tuesday evening at 7.30pm. There are other meetings every day of the week in Tauranga you can get the details from the AA web site or by ringing 0800 229 6757.

Answers Page 15
Babies and infants are precious. Everything babies and toddlers experience affects their brains forever. The way you treat our children counts – and it counts long term. Children are not tough. They are not too young to notice. They do not just get over it. Love care and attention will help children to become happy and stable adults. Shouting, hitting, violence, abuse and ignoring your child have a very bad effect on your baby’s and young child’s brain development. This can cause problems later – at school; as teenagers; as adults. Parenting can be tough but one of the most important things you can do is provide a safe home, calm and free from violence for your children. If you get early help the risk of the children suffering long term effects will be less. To get help talk to someone you trust. A support agency that helps family's. IS IT VIOLENCE? Does your partner or someone in your whanau/family… Put you down, constantly criticise or call you names? Blame you for the violence and tell you you’re crazy. Threaten to hurt you/kill themselves/report you/take your children away? Follow and check up on you or repeatedly email/call/text you? Get jealous or angry easily? Not let you have any money or friends? Force you to have sex or do degrading things? Hit, choke, push, slap, burn, kick, shout at you, or throw things?
Are you feeling….. Often on edge like walking on egg-shells? Confused, depressed, frustrated, or anxious? Tired of trying to keep the peace? Alone and isolated? Worried that the violence stops you being the mum you want to be? Fearful for yourself or your children’s lives?
You are not alone. Help is available. You can live free from violence. Kia kaha. Korero mai.
