While passing through Taupo I came across these swans at the waters edge. The friendliness of them let me get very close where they could peck at the camera. However a hiss was a convincing warning to be wary and step back.

Laptop versus Desktop When buying a new computer, one of the first decisions you make is whether to buy a desktop or a laptop computer. There is a wide range of laptops available from various stores, but not much in the way of desktops. However, the decision isn’t based on what a store has on display. What you need to consider is if you want a computer that you can use anywhere (as long as the battery is charged), and if you have wireless capabilities on your internet connection or printer. If you plan to use your computer in one place, then you probably need a desktop. Laptops are very portable, but are also rather fragile when compared to a desktop computer due to the quest for less weight and bigger screens. On a laptop, the screen can easily be cracked, keys on the keyboard are somewhat fragile, and cooling is an issue. With appropriate care and maintenance they will last a long time, otherwise you’ll be spending lots of money at Kings Computers for replacement parts. I give free advice on desktop and laptop computers to help you decide what is best for your situation. See my ad for contact details. -David (Kings Computers)
CC’s Bay Of Plenty Community News Letter, Phone: 07 5755 181 ... Email: ccsbopcommunitynewsletter@gmail.com (Page 8) DIABETES AND EMOTIONAL WELLBEING
There is a well-known link between diabetes and depression. However, the emotional impact of the condition is still not always recognised. Being diagnosed and living with diabetes can affect people in very different ways. Some people find they are able to cope with diabetes and it has little effect on their day-to-day life, while others may find that it turns their lives upside down. Finding diabetes difficult to cope with is a common feeling and does not mean that you are doing something wrong.
Many people find their own way to deal with these feelings, but for some they continue to struggle to come to terms with how their diabetes makes them feel. Sometimes these feelings can develop into depression. Although people with diabetes have a higher chance of showing signs of depression, not all people with diabetes who are finding it difficult to cope with will develop depression. WHAT MAY HELP?
Some people find talking their feelings through with someone close or with a healthcare professional can be helpful. Local support groups offer the opportunity to meet other people with the same condition who may have experienced similar feelings. Counselling may be available through your GP practice. If you are continually feeling low seek help. The Diabetes Specialist Nurses Isabel, Kaye, Maureen, Miranda, Rose
Donald Welsh — stressed Mums and Dads Sometimes stressed Mums and Dads resort to anything for a bit of peace and quiet, and sadly sometimes they resort to giving their toddler or pre-schooler an electronic screen because they can’t be bothered interacting with their child. Now if you are one of those parents, don’t beat yourself up about this and I’m not going to beat you up either. We used to tune the TV into the right channel for Blue’s Clues and Hi Five so we can have a sort of a lazy morning start! All out little darlings had to do was turn on the telly! However my little darlings are now in the teenage years, and now we as a society use ipods, ipads, mp3 players, telephones in your ear and in the car and tablets, mini pads, kindles and all sorts of electronic things to keep us amused. While we might be a more connected world at times we are more isolated than we ever have been. If your toddler or pre-schooler is addicted to a screen it’s time to start helping them change that habit, and remember that all actions are communication. You know your children better than I do, so the next time you think there is the mother of all meltdowns brewing, disconnect yourself from your screen and try to head this off at the pass before it’s too late. They may want your attention and if throwing the biggest tanty in town is how they get you away from your screen that’s what they’ll do. If you are shopping get them to look for a colour, or get them to help with the shopping by putting stuff YOU want in the trolley (quickly bypass the chocolate, lollies and ice cream sections!) just get them to put the cans in, not the glass jars! If you are gasbagging with your mates remember your child as well, take some things along for them to play with and maybe they will learn to share, it’s hard to share a 3 ½ inch screen with others. The screen can be used as a reward or as a treat; a screen cannot and should not be used as a pacifier or a babysitter. Remember the promises that you made to your child when they were in Mums tummy?…well it’s time to fulfil them, the road to having an independent, capable young adult starts here and now, if you don’t want a teenager who only grunts and groans at you while looking intently at whatever screen they will have in 10 years’ time, the journey should also start now. Maybe you need to have a look at how addicted you are to your personal screen, maybe you need to start showing them how to use these electronic devices responsibly. Have a good month - Donald Welsh - Parenting Coach Tauranga

Graffiti or Noise People are entitled to make a reasonable level of noise, but everyone also has the right to have excessive noise stopped or reduced, provided the noise is under human control. Graffiti vandalism (tagging) is a crime that affects the whole community. It can lower property values and encourage more vandalism and other types of crime. It also costs a lot of money to clean up – money that could be better spent on other things for Tauranga City. If you have an issue with noise, you can call the Council on 07 577 7000 at any time of the day or night to report it. If you see someone tagging phone 111 immediately. The Police have a better chance of taking legal action if they can catch an offender in the act. For general graffiti reporting please call the Council 07 577 7000.

DON’T BE THE ONE WHO REGRETS YOUR ACTION BY LEAVING OTHERS GRIEVING Think about PEOPLE Children, Mums, Dads, Friends
Every single injury and death caused by drunk driving is totally preventable. There are still far too many such preventable accidents. Unfortunately, in spite of all the warnings, advice, TV Ads, road signs, alcohol-impaired driving remains a serious problem that tragically effects many victims, families and friends.

For many though its the one job where the least amount of training and preparation is provided. Parenting can be a wonderful and rewarding experience. Some times it can also have its difficulties. Many parents will experience feelings of uncertainty or being overwhelmed. The demands of parenting, along with maintaining the household and work commitments, can make it a challenge. If you are experiencing these feelings, don’t despair, there are programmes in your community that can help you with parenting assistance and support. Incredible Years is one such parenting programme. This is a course which runs weekly for two and a half hours each session for 14 weeks .Parents with similar parenting needs come together in a group to share their problems. They discuss solutions and also hear examples of day-to-day strategies that will help them improve relationships with their children. In case of an emergency … listen to your radio Civil defence works collabora0vely with radio networks to broadcast important informa0on and advice during an emergency. In an emergency find, and tune in to, your local radio sta0on as they will broadcast official civil defence informa0on that is appropriate for your community and emergency situa0on. The radio no0ces will tell you what to do and where to go whether you should stay at home or to evacuate to a Repor0ng Centre. The Repor0ng Centres in an emergency are primary and intermediate schools, which is where people would go if advised to evacuate. If the emergency is of a serious nature then Welfare Centres will be opened to provide basic services to the community during an emergency. Informa0on on the current situa0on will be displayed at these also. The loca0on of these centres will be publically advised at the 0me of the emergency and may vary depending on the nature of the situa0on. You should record the frequencies for your local sta0ons in your Emergency Plan. Also it is a good idea to make sure you have a ba=ery operated radio at home or in your car. MANNERS “A true gentleman is one that apologizes anyways, even though he
has not offended a lady intentionally. He is in a class all of his own because he knows the value of a woman's heart.” ― Shannon L. Alder “FORGIVING is FOR GIVING to others and if it is meant FOR GETTING to ourselves then should it not be termed as FORGETTING ourselves.” ― Anuj Somany “Being male is a matter of birth. Being a man is a matter of age. But being a Gentleman is a matter of choice.” ― Vin Diese “Respect for ourselves guides our morals; respect for others guides our manners” ― Laurence Sterne “Life is short, but there is always time enough for courtesy.” ― Ralph Waldo Emerson “The real test of good manners is to be able to put up with bad manners pleasantly.” ― Khalil Gibran “I was raised right — I talk about people behind their backs. It's called manners.” ― Kathy Griffin “Suits don't make gentlemen. Money doesn't teach morals” ― Abdelrahman Ashraf Abuzied A gentleman would be ashamed should his deeds not match his words.— Confucius
Wife: "How would you describe me?" Husband: "ABCDEFGHIJK." Wife: "What does that mean?" Husband: "Adorable, beautiful, cute, delightful, elegant, fashionable, gorgeous, and hot." Wife: "Aw, thank you, but what about IJK?" Husband: "I'm just kidding!" A husband, who has six children, begins to call his wife “mother of six” rather than by her first name. The wife, amused at first, chuckles. A few years down the road, the wife has grown tired of this. "Mother of six," he would say, "what’s for dinner tonight? Get me a beer!" She gets very frustrated. Finally, while attending a party with her husband, he jokingly yells out, "Mother of six, I think it's time to go!" The wife immediately shouts back, "I'll be right with you, father of four! If you want to know who is really man’s best friend, put your dog and your wife in the trunk of your car, come back an hour later, open the trunk, and see which one is happy to see you. Wife: "Our new neighbor always kisses his wife when he leaves for work. Why don't you do that?" Husband: "How can I? I don't even know her." Man: I know how to please a woman. Woman: Then please leave me alone. A husband asks his wife, "Will you marry after I die?" The wife responds, "No, I will live with my sister." The wife asks him back, "Will you marry after I die?" The husband responds, "No, I will also live with your sister." A little old lady comes into the kitchen to talk to her husband and says, "Honey just look at me. My legs are heavy, thighs are getting big, and boobs are sagging. I could really use a complement right about now." The husband replied, "You have really good eye sight!"

DO NOT leave heaters unattended and always unplug heaters when not in use. Keep flammable materials away from the heater. DO NOT plug any other electrical device into the same outlet as your heater. This could result in overheating. Keep heaters away from children and don't place in a child’s room without supervision. Watch when children are wearing nightgowns or other loose clothing that can be easily ignited DO NOT use a heater with a damaged cord Inspect the heaters and cords from time to time. DO NOT use in damp or wet areas. Avoid using electric space heaters in bathrooms or other areas where they may come in contact with water. DO NOT block heater’s air intake or exhaust source Keep combustible materials, such as furniture, pillows, bedding, papers, clothes and curtains at least three feet from the front of the heater Plug the heater directly into an outlet. Attaching an extension cord to the unit increases the chance of overheating, fires, and electrical shock injuries DO NOT use your heater with extension cords. Overheating of extension cord could result in a fire. Do not touch the heater if you are wet or have wet hands, as this increases the risk of electrical shock. Switch off and unplug the heater when leaving it unattended. . Do this when you go to sleep as well Opt for heaters with tip-over and overheat protection. Today's portable heater models include a variety of safety features that help take some of the worry out of operation. Fireplace Tips Do not use flammable liquids to start or accelerate any fire. Don't use excessive amounts of paper to build roaring fires in fireplaces. It is possible to ignite creosote in the chimney by overbuilding the fire. Never burn charcoal indoors. Burning charcoal can give off lethal amounts of carbon monoxide. Keep flammable materials away from your fireplace. A spark from the fireplace could easily ignite these materials. Before you go to sleep, be sure your fireplace fire is out. NEVER close your damper with hot ashes in the fireplace. A closed damper will help the fire to heat up again and will force toxic carbon monoxide into the house. Use safety guard screens to prevent children getting to close Never discard hot ashes inside or near the home. Place them in a metal container outside and well away from the house.
